I had a 1976 1100 clubman, a 1963 Mini Cooper S, and a 1979 1275GT. Subframes were always an issue, and I'm gobsmacked by this video that this problem remains!
Some other areas to inspect. Battery box, rear seat belt buckle mounts (three layers of metal coming together), and the end of chassis rails ending under both front seats, and the riser which would be in front of the fuel tank, but that's going to be pretty obvious. Other than that, you'll probably find loads of pinhole intrusions which are hiding rust scattered all over the underside. I ended up stripping everything.
Eurocarparts currently do a special on the rear subframe. £85, but you must call your local branch. The internet will show the full price. I spent lockdown fully stripping, repairing and recoating the underside. Not financially viable, but this thing is good for many years to come, so who knows, maybe one day I get my investment back 😁
Oh, and BMW sell the little weld screws that hold the brake lines, fuel lines, and exhaust shields on, as they're probably mostly rotten too. I replaced about 36 of them

I’m shocked by it too. For everyone who says it’s not a real mini, well it sure rusts like one. I wish it was as clean as a 2006 3 series under there.

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look once I get the tank out and attack it with a wire brush.

Did Mini use Nissan Navara Chassis as a guide for corrosion prevention? :D :D
