Bodycam Shows Suspect Grabbing Officer’s Taser Before Police Repeatedly Strike Him To Gain Control

Cheyenne, Wyoming - On Friday, April 5, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., 26-years-old Yzail Gauna was found to have outstanding warrants during a traffic stop. The warrants were for domestic battery and a probation violation. Body-worn camera footage shows that officers approached the vehicle, occupied by Gauna, three other adults, and an infant in the back seat - the child and occupants were not secured by any seatbelts. When officers asked for Gauna’s name, he provided a false identity. Officers became suspicious and ordered Gauna to exit the vehicle. He ignored commands and became verbally combative. A woman and child were also asked to exit and complied.
While arguing with officers, Gauna began reaching into his pants pocket, which contained a knife. Officers commanded Gauna to stop multiple times. The officer then attempted to remove Gauna from the vehicle, and he became physically violent, pushing the officer, and attempting to run away. During the altercation, Gauna grabbed the officer’s Taser, and used it against him, driving it into his collarbone. Officers delivered baton strikes to targeted zones - the thighs, right tricep, and right lat - in an attempt to gain control of Gauna’s right arm and prevent him from reaching for his pocketknife. Officers were able to detain Gauna and he was taken into custody. Following medical clearance, Gauna was booked into the Laramie County Jail on his existing warrants and an additional felony count of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. If you pay close attention, it’s 5 seconds or less from the time where he acts all tough, aggressively pushing the officer trying to flee and crying “help me” when the officers do what’s necessary to detain and control him due to his actions.
The speed with which he went from (attempting) to fight/flee the police to pleading for help is staggering. It’s like he didn’t think his actions were going to have any consequences or repercussions
I'm sick of seeing people always pull their fvcking phone out like they're getting some sort of evidence or something for a court case when in fact they were the problem all along.
And there are instances where the phone footage can actually be used in the prosecution of the perpetrator, depending on the circumstances of the arrest.

Most people comply. Because of BWCs and phone cameras we get to see the ones who don't daily on social media. We also get to see police behaving badly. Don't assume each video you see is representative of either group.
@@jro9365 I have to agree with you. Sadly, there are so many incidents that viewers have many choices to binge watch new scenes every day. I watch many of them. I would estimate that 90% of officers not only handle it well, but go above and beyond with the patience of Job and enough empathy, steadiness, and bravery, to calm a herd of panicked buffalo! Stuff I could never do. Maybe another 5% or so are a little inexperienced or slow to act or something. But definitely no more than maybe 3% are actually overly violent either through panic or, rarely, because they are committing a criminal or reckless act. Very few. In this video, that guy is lucky he didn't catch a bullet. All of those officers were in danger. The guy was like a wet rubber band squirming around and not complying. All he had to do was stop fighting. Simple.

IDC who Im with, my dad, my husband, anyone, if there is an altercation with them and an officer, I will be shielding my child from seeing any part of that. The child seemed desensitized from this altercation, which is sad. Never would I ever put my child in harms way. Or be involved with anyone who has a shady history. Not ever! Even if that means I live in a shelter for the rest of my life.
The perp had a warrant for domestic assault. Unfortunately, this is an every day occurrence with this kid. He is already used to seeing dear old dad beat on people.

I'm sure that the people who know nothing about policing outside Rodney King and George Floyd will think he was beaten for no reason. They won't read/see that had a weapon on him and he grabbed an officer's weapon, then kept fighting. That means nothing, the video made them FEEL BAD so the cops are wrong. I live in a city with people like this.

Wyoming doesn't have any stop and ID laws. Only the driver has to identify themselves. You don't even have to give your name in Wyoming. The only words out of this dude's mouth should have been "screw off, I'm not telling you anything or answering any questions." Instead, the cop lied to him, that scared him, and he acted out. If a cop came up to me and told me I was breaking the law by wearing white shoes I'd lose my sh*t too.

That's literally every arrest, and most criminals deny their crime and think the cops are lying, so you're essentially saying every suspect has the right to resist arrest. That's the worst advice you can give. Even if it's a wrongful arrest, you don't fight, because the initial charge may be dropped but resisting or battery on LEO won't be. Or you might just get shot while having a temper tantrum. The punishment for fighting police should be harsher, like it is in the country where I work (S. Korea). Light punishments for crimes is a big reason that the U.S. is crime infested and we have almost no crime. The U.S. needs to stop being so soft.
