Police Fatally Shoot Abducted Teen As She Was Following instructions to Move Toward a Deputy

Hesperia, California - On September 27, 2022, an amber alert out of Fontana was issued for 15-year-old Savannah Graziano. The amber alert was issued out of concern she was taken by her father, 45-year-old Anthony Graziano. Before the amber alert was issued. Graziano killed his Wife outside of a School in Fontana. Graziano also shot at a father and child near the school. The following morning, a 911 caller reported seeing Graziano’s pickup truck and Savannah purchasing items at a gas station. Police soon located Graziano speeding on a nearby freeway, prompting the start of a chaotic chase. When deputies caught up with the vehicle, shots were fired from inside toward police. During the pursuit Graziano attempted to drive up an embankment onto main street, but he lost traction, and the vehicle moved back down the embankment in the direction of I-15. When the pickup truck came to a stop, unarmed Savannah exited from the passenger side as she was wearing tactical gear and a helmet.
The video shows she crouches on the ground for about ten seconds, and then walks toward the nearby deputy who was calling her to his position, followed by a boom that appears to be at least one deputy shooting her, though the department blurred out Savannah at this moment. The deputies were not wearing body cameras, but the department shared audio from the belt of the deputy standing closest to the girl. On the video you can hear a deputy calling her over and telling other deputies that the person who exited the truck was the passenger and for them to stop firing, but it was too late. Deputies immediately began medical aid on Savannah and she was transported to the Hospital where she died of her injuries. Anthony Graziano was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple firearms were located at the scene including hundreds of rounds of ammunition, flash bang and smoke grenades, as well as body-armor and tactical helmets. Four Sheriff's Department vehicles were struck by gunfire in this incident.

The guilty officer fired WELL after the father had fired his gun *during the active chase*. When the vehicle stopped moving she exited the vehicle with nothing in her hands and with every intent of getting to safety when some piss soaked boot discharged his firearm at an unarmed hostage who was actively complying with police orders, hence why the other officer said "she's the hostage, stop shooting her" confirming that the officer fired mistakenly and is in the wrong. Yes this is 110% the officers fault, this was not a lax situation but it also wasn't a situation clouded with the fog of war. Maybe next time, get a better grasp of combat dynamics and an understanding of the next police homicide you decide to incompetently justify instead of stringing words together to make some kind of barely plausible excuse for the officers unforgivable actions. Remember that the only reason this footage is released now after 2 years, is because journalists and others kept asking for the footage. If it were up to the police, they'd have kept this quiet.

For those who have not been following the whole story, this occurred in 2022 and the San Bernardino Sheriffs Dept was fighting to prevent the footage from being made public. They also claimed previously that the victim was “wearing tactical gear” and “rushing toward them,” they also blamed the perpetrator for shooting her. This dept is a disgrace and this isn’t the only incident of unnecessary killings done by the dept in the last few years.

What ever happened happened a long time ago. This video, and all of the information on the shooting, took 18 months fighting in the courts to get. The California Public Records Act is supposed to require the government agency to hand over the information within 1 month. The Sheriff's office took it to court. They finally got a ruling and the judge told them to hand it over.
They really didn't want this getting out. They knew how badly they messed up, especially while they were in the middle of another internal investigation. So they tried to bury it and keep the public from seeing their incompetence. They said they did an "internal investigation."
Since the release, news agencies have asked the Sheriff's office what the results of the investigation were. Their response was that they'd only give it over with a California Public Records Act request. Clearly they're hiding something. Probably a lot of somethings.

As a law enforcement officer there is so much wrong with the tactics followed and this is among the worst cases of police misconduct I’ve ever seen. You NEVER blindly open fire on a vehicle that is stopped with a KNOWN hostage inside. What were these officers thinking? Clearly negligent homicide charges are warranted here.

I am a retired officer. I have watched about ten of these videos this morning. There needs to be a serious reform in police training. I have seen no fire discipline in a single video. Every officer I have seen fire his weapon has immediately just started to rapidly unload like the suspect is the only person in range. Its is fucking crazy. This one was particularly crazy. Whoever decided that police all need AR15 rifles in urban areas is nuts.

What an absolute screw up. This is by far one of the worst operations I've witnessed, from the reckless driving to the crossfire then the miscommunication that got the abducted person killed. This is the kind of operation that should carry accountability.

I've noticed a lot of incompetency in California Law Enforcement. Specifically, CHP. But this entire situation was not handled properly. It's situations like this that make every officer, deputy, and trooper in the US look terrible.
As a truck driver, I've dealt with a lot of state law enforcement agencies across the US, and CHP definitely has the largest number of people with god complexes, and just in general being assholes.

They weren't trying to kill an innocent person, and unlike normal citizens, they are by law allowed to operate with different ROE. If someone was running towards a normal citizen who thought they were a danger and shot, that wouldn't be murder either, by the way. @@lmcatech Also, the ambulance was already pulling up to the victim, so Paramedics would be trying to stabilize her condition until the med chopper arrived, so there was no need for police chopper to be in the way of the med chopper landing zone.
They took so long to land because of safety. Landing an aircraft isn't like a video game.

The guy who called in the Amber alert from the store is really really really super lucky the cops didn't go to the store and shoot and kill him. "Well, we thought the dispatcher said the clerk had kidnapped the kid and was going to take her to Barstow. When the officers arrived, the clerk made a threatening motion, lifting his hand with an object in it and the officers feared for their lives so they had to shoot him 200 times to neutralize the threat. Turned out he had a corn dog in his hand that he'd been eating that appeared to the responding officers to be a assault weapon with a flash suppressor on it."

The gas stations I worked at were pretty aware of amber alerts and posted them, this is because gas stations are obviously necessary stops for kidnapping suspects on the run

The best place you could possibly wait to de-escalate the situation is literally a public road, far away from city surroundings. So instead of treating it as a kidnapping situation, you proceed to recklessly shoot at a vehicle with a kidnapping suspect inside? The U.S. military uses hand signals in such situations and when they see it they almost reflexively stop shooting and pass the hand signal to others while shouting "check fire" or "cease fire". With the amount vets that are in the law enforcement profession you'd think such knowledge would be passed along.

It's much worse than that. Watch the video, the girl is NOT inside the truck, she is out of it, crawling towards a cop (as he instructs her to). She is probably 10 feet away from the suspect's car - police fire on the car / suspect... and for some bloody reason one or more officers fire on the girl crawling on the ground who is nowhere near the suspect's vehicle.

There were bullets flying in all directions with no consideration of the hostage's well being or other Officers in the crossfire. They need to review that footage and identify the Officers that had no idea what they were doing.
