Officer Shoots Suspect Who Hung Onto a Vehicle While Attempting To Carjack it During Pursuit

Lathrop, California - On Sunday, January 27, the Lathrop Police officers responded to a domestic violence call on Shadywood Avenue. The suspect, 40-year-old Juan Valdez, was wanted in connection to a domestic violence incident that occurred in Lathrop. Valdez fled officers, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. He entered southbound Interstate 5 and he then attempted to carjack a vehicle on southbound Interstate 5 after one of his tires came apart. He then attempted to carjack a vehicle on Interstate 5. The video shows Valdez holding on to the victim's vehicle's window as the victim was driving away. The victim then stopped their vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate and attempted to enter the vehicle through the passenger door. This is when an officer fired two shots at Valdez. Valdez was taken to the hospital before being booked into San Joaquin County Jail. He is facing charges of carjacking, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

I have to say, the new editing is very good! I like the new bigger text that makes it easier to read quickly so it doesn't distract from the action and I don't have to rewind to read something I didn't hear right.
But the best improvement has to be the synced bodycam views! I like this format over the old one where we see the whole scene from one bodycam, then the scene again from a different bodycam, and so on. I like that too but this synced bodycam version is more compact and get's a good view of everything simultaneously. You've really stepped up! Best quality of editing I've seen on this channel, and I've been watching for a long time now. Well done!

For me this shooting is a bit questionable, and I'm generally pro law enforcement. No weapon was visible and he was not directly attacking anyone. Now, if he had actually opened the back door, I would understand it more. I'm not saying that the cop is clearly wrong, but it seems questionable to me. I'm curious, what would be the arguments for a justified shooting?
