You should definitely watch the other two. Lego Batman is so good. There were also a few Lego Star Wars TV specials a while back. They aren't quite as much fun though.
The film is full CGI, however, the way they animated it was unique; they created 3D CG models of every Lego piece and then they built everything we see in the software using those pieces and 'filmed' it in a stop motion style so that it looked as though they filmed it using physical Lego.
And another reason this film looked so great was they were able to render extreme darks and lights much like the human eye is able to see. So, sunlight, for example, looked extremely realistic. The guys at VFX Artists React covered 'The Lego Movie' in one of their videos: ruclips.net/video/D7Cv7x6jjYQ/видео.htmlsi=6gppev0xxhDRToJj&t=38
100% fellow Lego Space kid. For many years, whenever relatives would ask what to get me for Christmas/birthday presents, my parents would just say "any space Lego set." My favorite detail for Benny is the cracked helmet. That part was really weak and prone to cracking. I had several like that.
The brilliance of the "Lego movie" is exploring the idea of creativity. The father lost that creativity as so many adults do. -------- The son taught him the point of playing with Legos is to take simple blocks and make something new. -------- Its just like our kids teach us to be curious. -------- Such a deep message with the interaction of Will Farrel and his movie son.
@@tremorsfan I took my daughter to the Lego park in SAn Diego. She didn't get it because all the structures were completely built and didn't look like legos. -------- Sometimes legos have to partially built so folks can see the parts it takes to make a structure. It will let us imagine more.
@@tremorsfan They still exist. You can buy sets to build and then later take apart too. But the buckets and boxes of bricks do still exist. They have a bunch of random parts and some inspiration pictures that encourage making something new or adding on to other sets.
I had that space man Lego figure as a kid and he had the same broken bit on his helmet. It was a design flaw and they all would break that way. I smiled so much when I saw that. It was such any amazing little detail that I could totally relate too and might have been the only person in the theater to understand it's full significance as an inside, old school Lego history easter egg.
The part of this movie that gets me, is when The Father and son are talking at the end, and Will Ferrell asks his son, "If the construction worker could say something to Lord Business, what would he say?" , and his son says, "You don't have to be the bad guy". Imagine realizing that your son thinks you are the bad guy in his story. I would feel like the greatest failure as a Father if I heard that.
The shock of Jen losing Vitruvius was PRICELESS!!!!!! -------- Her mouth literally dropped to the floor. ------ Then comes ghost Vitruvius to restore confidence.
21:23 fun fact that Lego spaceship was actually made by one of the filmmakers when he was a kid in fact his mom personally mailed it to him for this movie.
It is *vitally* important to note that the name of the Lego set with the spaceship from 20:17 on is literally called "Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!"
Who better to watch a toy-based movie with than the playful, fun Jen Murray? But of course, Jen's a great movie buddy no matter the genre. Thanks, Jen!
I couldn't agree more yes it 's such a great combo still at work now , so i don't want to spoil this for myself i 'm so looking forward to this later when i finally get to watch this and hear Jen's wonderful laugh and commentary 😊 🤘
So I work on construction sites; today I was watching the steel guys assemble the elevator shaft top and thought of this movie, pictured them singing Everything is Awesone, and nearly laughed out loud :)
0:45 Reminds me of Free Guy. Which reminds me that Jen really needs to watch Free Guy, she'll love it. 2:17 And she reminds me of Ramona Flowers. Jen also really needs to watch Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, she might like that one even more. 14:29 I love that that bottom if the Astronaut-Guy's helmet is broken, because the happened pretty much immediately if you took it off. 16:45 Goodbyes can be difficult or uncomfortable, but I would suggest that they're the best. After them, the Humans go away.
6:25 I never realized this until now but thats a reference to the original Lego figures all having the exact same face. And a really cool thing is they featured real sets old and new for when the movie was made. They also made sets of things you see in the movie. The pirate ship, ice cream truck, space ship, the mech, the double decker couch, the motorcycle, and the police car. They made more but I can't remember all of them. I have an Emmet figure somewhere too.
The trick of the double decker couch is that they need to be offset! Buddy of mine had a loveseat sitting around that we didn't have space for, so he built a frame and set it on that behind the actual couch and then set up a platform around it to enclose the whole thing. Was pretty great, had a projector we'd watch stuff on the wall with
😎👍 Although when it comes to CGI animation, people first think of Disney/Pixar and Dreamworks, this serves as a reminder that Warner Brothers also has put out handful of really nifty animated films over the last 20 years. In addition to their flagship LEGO franchise, there's "Happy Feet," "The Ant Bully," "Storks" and "Smallfoot" which are all also a lot of fun.
A few years ago I found a box of my Legos from the 80s in my parents' attic. I brought it home with me, dumped it all out onto the floor, and built a spaceship while periodically shouting "spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!!"
I built a bunk-couch with my roommates around 2003-4 so IMAGINE my surprise when this movie came out, and no, legs didn't dangle, the upper couch was on a platform that left enough room in front as a footrest.
6:37 😄There were _several_ toys I enjoyed playing with, as a kid, but _none_ as much as my legos. Those were an _unending_ source of entertainment for _years_ of my life. That's probably the main reason I enjoyed this movie, so much.

Lego was fun to play with, as a kid I got a new set every couple of months, with every set you got new pieces. Like tires, different sizes of gears, clear pieces to use as windows, hinges, rockets and other stuff.
I had some of the early Lego sets before they got too complex when I was a kid. (70's). We would make 'airplanes' with them with wings and tails and so on. Just like a regular plane. We also had an inground pool. We would take the planes we made and while in the pool we'd disassemble them. Shake out all the air bubbles and then reassemble them. Keeping them submerged as we did so. Keeping them under water we'd just let them sink to the bottom of the pool and as they did, they would 'fly' like regular airplanes. Swoop and bank, stall and even land. We had contest who could get closest to the drain or the farthest in the deep end.
This movie is so much fun. It’s got a stellar cast, great music, awesome animations and a heartwarming ending. Also definitely check out Lego Batman it’s fantastic.
I was never a Lego kid, mostly because my mom forbade them entry to the house after a set somehow destroyed a couple of vacuum cleaner engines. I did very much enjoy the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones games. For having zero dialogue, they were surprisingly funny.

The Lego Batman Movie is wonderful, both as a Batman story and as an epic parody of action movies.
Lego Batman and Lego Movie 2 are both great.
