#iagree you are the most interesting person
also if you want you should react to the Lego ninjago movie
Please watch the sequel!! I know you'll love the villain of that one lol
Thank you Surfshark VPN.
Angelina Plz react to "the Lego movie part 2."
It's actually all CG! You barely notice because it's so confidently executed but this movie actually has some *really* cutting edge lighting technology to make everything look and feel like real plastic.
What also helps is they never bend Lego bricks unrealistically. If they need something to contort, they swap out the Lego pieces for those frames.
@@djorgs And that they went to the length of putting individual nicks, scratches, and fingerprints on the bricks.
@@djorgs that is what really sets it apart from the lower budget, direct to streaming or direct to "video" Lego movies/shows. The animators for this movie really deserve so much credit for that, and also the production team for believing in their team instead of taking the easy way out.
@@djorgs Not completely true. I noticed Emmet's arm bend sideways in one scene towards the beginning of this video.
Man, that CGI Will Ferrell is so realistic! jk, I know you meant the animated parts, not the live action stuff, but I just found it kind of funny that you said all.
I love the meta element where the whole thing is a kid playing with his dad's Legos.
This was written by Lord & Miller, who also wrote the Miles Morales Spider-Man movie (Into the Spider-Verse).
Explains...SO MUCH
and both Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs movies
Also the two Jump Street movies, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. As a matter of fact, I'd bet good money they just grabbed them during filming of the second one (which also came out in 2014) and put them in a recording booth for like ten minutes to get their lines for Superman and Green Lantern.
@@ANGELINAA And they're also the guys behind 21 and 22 Jump Street.
@@ANGELINAA don't watch the sequel it sucks
Not gonna lie, the whole father/son thing tears me up every time. When I first saw this it was so flipping surprisingly good.
I know, I tear up every time I watch this movie and its definitely the daddy issues 😅
same lol i always end up wiping my eyes after the father realizes he's "the bad guy" in his son's eyes. it's so well done.
@@mateom1691 yep. There is definitely a reoccurring theme in the kiddo’s play showing a limitation on creativity and his father basically thinking play is a waste of time. I think the kid does a good job reflecting what is going on in his home life in his play.
True
This movie didn’t lead to the phrase “blink twice and you’ll miss it” being coined; but by god does it embrace it 🤓 this movie is such a gem.
All the tiny details in a few frames, like the pig from the wagon landing on the other side of the train and turning into sausage pieces, make it worth going back to watch this movie several times over
@@Lokear It's a shame that there's no 1×2 bacon pieces, because I was thinking about that for a while
@@baimhakani There is this piece though, it came out after the movie but it could be used as bacon: preview.redd.it/5ehqnvnho1my.png?auto=webp&s=0922e3ed37a01dd46153973f96da4b537e821517
Except for the end titles, the entire movie is actually CGI. The animators did little things like put scratches and fingerprints on all the brick models. And those numbers that show up when they're doing "Master Building?" They're the actual serial numbers for those pieces.
"The Lego Movie 2" is just as good. And the "Lego Batman Movie" is perhaps the finest Batman movie ever...;)
The machines seen being built by Lord Business on his TV screens during the final battle are also stop-motion; they were contest-winning fan submissions.
A few more things are real too, like the "5 hours later" and "8 1/2 years later" title cards (the latter being pasted over the CG of Emmet's face, obviously, but the bricks are real ones.)
As the previous reply mentioned, the screens in the TAKOS room were real, and during the director commentary they mention that the buildings in the background during the construction site scenes were also real.
the entire movie? even the scenes with humans?
@@TheDruboni Yes.
@@TheDruboni Especially the scenes with humans
You're in for a treat in the next few movies. Also, fun fact: Liam Neeson didn't do any other takes when switching his goodcop/badcop voice. He switched it on the spot!
Liam Neesan S tier
She probably needs to watch this one a couple of more times first, a lot of jokes went over her head.
There’s a LEGO Batman movie too!! It’s absolutely hilarious and low-key underrated
Definitely my favorite Lego movie
true! i had low expectations because i thought The Lego Movie was a one-time thing but it was seriously so good too
@@JITCompilation Lego movie 2?
Lego Ninjago is underrated.
I think it’s so cool that legos have two purposes essentially. It teaches kids how to follow instructions and make something that you could never build yourself, but ALSO how to be creative and build something only you could ever build.
This movie shows how everyone is special and creative and unique, and how nobody should ever be put into a box or told what to do. It shows us that we are special, and we shouldn’t be afraid to be ourselves.
But it also shows that when people refuse to follow instructions or work together, things can fall apart. Sometimes sticking to the plan, following the leader, or being a part of a team is the right thing to do. When people work together, they can accomplish far more than one person could ever do on their own.
They actually turned the purpose of legos into the theme of the movie.
The master builders arc was obvious. They were self absorbed, and had to learn how to be a part of a team. If you’ll notice, though Lord Business’s main arc was learning that not everything has to be perfect, his underlying arc was the same as the master builders. He also needed to learn to be a part of a team.
On the other end of things, though Lucy’s main arc was learning she didn’t need to be special, the underlying arc was about how sometimes trying too hard to be special is actually conformity. She was putting herself in a box, and needed to be herself.
So the themes go both ways. Conformity is both good and bad. Nonconformity can be both good and bad. Trying to force conformity or nonconformity is bad.
Essentially in video game context, it's just like minecraft
The fact that this movie wasn’t nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature (Big Hero 6 was the winner that year), is just insulting.
This was better than big hero 6
Ikr
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) and The Lego Batman Movie (2017) are done in the same style and are just as funny at times. The newest game, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has the same humor mixed with video game action, perfectly balanced to keep things hilarious and entertaining.
I love The Lego Batman Movie!
Also The LEGO Ninjago Movie (which is far more niche but counts)
@@mr.moviemafia seriously the Ninjago Movie had no right being as good as it is. Especially to someone like me who knows nothing/doesnt care about Ninjago^^
@💙 y u n a❕ they were talking about the movie... the movie was a little uh.... um.... watch it and you’ll know what I mean. (No offense LEGO Ninjago Movie)
So this movie holds an extra special place in my heart. The one and only time I've ever been kicked out of a building because of something I did, it was when I was like 9 years old. I was hanging out with the neighbor kid and we had just built a sick Rock Raider set. After playing a bit, he wanted to take it apart and make something original; I wanted to keep playing with it as it was. The fight we got into over this was so bad that his mom just sent me home.
So when an amazing movie comes out that *nails* the core meta-conflict of Lego itself (instructions vs original creation), in addition to being flawlessly executed on its own, it also feels very very special to me specifically.
22:43
A severed head can remain conscious for about 25 to 30 seconds before passing out... tested with "live" subjects...
Yeah.. the early 1900' were a weird enough time to test it after centuries of questioning...
Fun fact about the Cop:
The voice actor did both voices back to back and changed voices repeatedly when both faces spoke. No cinema magic.
Yeah, no cinema magic, Liam Neeson is just magic by himself.
that is awesome, i love how delivery like that really adds up to the whole “kid playing and doing the voices by himself” thing. not sure if that’s what he was going for but regardless it’s so clever
It's so cute that when you figure out that "The kragle" is Krazy glue.. and you got super excited 😄
Moments like that are fun, but my favorites are when the first-time watcher says something early (like “is this whole movie animated like this?”) and you think “Yeah, hang on to that thought, that’s gonna be a *big* deal later on”.
Liam Neeson didn't want to record Good Cop and Bad Cop separately, so he just changed his voice between the two, which was hilarious.
26:57 Some of the Creations shown in this scene were fan submitted short films that had the chance to appear in the movie! It's literally what Emmet's saying in the scene "People Inspired by each other.... taking what you made and making something new out of it."
I remember first hearing about that. It was super cool.
15:14. Fun fact: Alison Brie (who voiced Unikitty) was a star on Dan Harmon’s (the creator of Rick and Morty) other most popular show Community and even guest starred in Rick and Morty season 5 as Planetina.
The scene where Emmet is STILL screaming after landing in the Old West got the biggest laugh out of the theater. Best part of the movie, imo. I am a personal fan of Vittruvius, and I was wondering why they didn't make "'Old? I prefer the word 'experienced'" T-shirts.
12:03 *Fun Fact: Nail polish not only will remove the ink, but also begin melting the Legos. I'm definitely not speaking from experience (I am) though the piece(s) I am referring to may have been a mixture of official Lego and knock-off Lego bricks. So yeah, there's another thing you learned. Fun reaction. Thanks lots.*
This film is what made me go see lego Batman in the cinema, twice. Lol. I love this film with all my heart and it let me convince myself that a fifteen year old girl playing with lego wasn't weird. Love the reaction
Fun Fact, in the German dub of this movie, they got a lot of the "original" voice actors for the character (the guy who voiced Gandalf in the German LOTR dub, they guy who voices Nolan-Batman and so on. Made it even cooler I think :D)
I adore how all the dialogue and movement of the characters mimic *exactly* how a child would play with little Lego figures, everything about this movie just feels so genuine and fun. You can tell that everyone involved in making it was letting out their inner child and letting the creativity run absolutely wild, which is so fitting for the whole spirit of Lego in general.
Chris Pratt is the only person to have three different Lego characters. Owen from Jurassic World, Emmitt from the Lego Movies and Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy
Is Harrison Ford second with Han Solo and Indiana Jones?
@@YT_AKai_ or Samuel L Jackson with Fury and Mace windu
@@dtebbs didn’t even think of him!! Did he have a Jurassic park character too or no?
@@YT_AKai_ Samuel L Jackson was Frozone and there's a Lego game for the Incredibles, if that counts
@@cthulhuwu_ is he in a set? Bc I think that’s the criteria but Idek
I saw this movie on opening night (Feb 7th, 2014) in my local theater. Still a fucking BANGER to this day. Please watch the sequels!
11:07 The mug pieces, combined with the cape and headpiece, are meant to make Lord business look like a giant clip-on tie from the back.
Everything is awesome
Like this video if you've ever stepped on a Lego....
Countless of times, to be honest
how do i like a video multiple times
I was so scared of stepping on Lego, I was bricking it.
Hey ange
OR a pile of _Lego_ .
To quote _Tropic Thunder_ : "You wouldn't say 'Chineses'!" 😂
The first time I got to watch this was when I was in animation school and they had a free 3D screening for students. Needless to say, watching it with a theater full of enthusiastic animator/vfx/writer/filmmaker college students was one of the best moviegoing experiences I’ve ever had. 😂😂
One time I was casually watching LEGO Movie on my TV when I was around 10 and my 21 year old sister walked in and asked what I was watching and I told her. Then she said, “You know that movie’s like, REALLY bad right?” Then I showed her the ratings and she never said anything bad about any movie I watched ever again.
This movie is one of the best animated movies ever, not least because it surprised everyone by not just being a movie-length ad. It embraced the silliness but still had genuine characters and an amazing plot even with all the random hilarity. The whole thing is a massive shitpost of a meme, and yet it's engaging, it has real stakes and lovable characters, and the story works on so many levels.
I agree and also teaches the values of family just like how my Little Pony friendship is magic teaching friendship
The only way I can describe this movie is ... 🎶EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!🎶😂
Man I remember seeing this in theaters with my friends back in 2014 good times never laughed so hard in my life! 😂
When this came out i sang EEVERYTHING IS AWSOME every second I was awake.😂
i know everybody used their notes app as a therapist, but me? i write down my favorite lego movie quotes.
“when you say harry, i go AHAHA! when you say the other guy, i go 😐”
gold
This movie is what inspired my love for Legos. The animation was groundbreaking and too awesome for my eyes!
You should defenitly watch the 2nd part . It contains so referrences . I am sure you will love it ✨
4:23 And people shot him down as Mario, THIS MAN IS TALENTED AND HE DID GOOD AS THE PLUMBER.
I literally had the “everything is awesome” song stuck in my head for what felt like 4 months lol
and now again 4 months! Let's go! AWESOMEEEE!
this was the first movie i ever saw in cinema and is still my favourite movie ever i remember my mum and dad telling me when we got back home from school we are going to watch the lego movie and the joy i felt at that moment was insane i wish i could get the same feeling watching it for the first time agen
Absolute classic ! And, obviously, by now, you know the techniques used to make the movie,,, and an important fact,,, every piece /or build / is an actual Lego piece & every build could actually be built from 'analog' bricks- (obviously not how the vehicles bend, and so forth, exaggerated effect) but every brick type, or specialty piece Lego has ever created, is represented somewhere in the movie. I am older here,, and I owned the 2nd generation "space crew" Legos, and I had more than one broken space helmet chin strap.... So much attention to detail in this heart-felt , and humorous movie !!
Fun fact, this wasnt stop motion, its all CGi, they put so much detail into all the bricks and sets to make it actually look stop motion, on the bricks and minifigs they puts scrathces, infgerprints, cracked parts, smudges etc, to make it feel so authentic
22:05 It was a Team America: World Police reference, which I find absolutely hilarious that nobody caught that.
I honestly love the idea of a firetruck mechsuit. I think it'd help firefighters IMMENSELY, in the real world or in sci-fi movies.
17:28
on min 16:50 the "dolphine" was actually a shark. you can see that becauser the fin is vertical. dolphine fins are horizontal
It seems interesting that this movie blown up the movies and market out there on the uprisings of LEGO toys to be more relaxing toy brand out there. Also it open the LEGO-verse in future movies.Try watching Lego Batman as it’s funny and awesome.
I love that the moments where the writing tries to make it look like it was created by a child go over her head "no I'm the most interesting".
All the film is CGI and is animated intentionally to look like stop motion. Testament to how skilled the vfx team is
i remember when i first saw this movie in theaters with my mom. it was my comfort movie for a while and i’d watch it every chance i’d get-
Amazing video, Ange!!
Tbh, I’m honestly shocked that you never watched this movie until filming this video. I’m glad you did though since I honestly LOVE this masterpiece. It’s a movie that I enjoy watching whenever I just want to chill. And now my absolutely favorite RUclipsr, that always eases me, is watching the very same movie!
Also, this video was beautifully edited! It’s so funny, random, fast paced as well- which is why I LOVED the movie.
P.s. I appreciate how you’re always mentioning Kung Fu Panda and Rick and Morty. You’re such a nerd and I love it!
As a major fan of Lego and movies in general, this film does a fantastic job presenting its themes which so many others in the comments have expertly said. I was so unbelievably excited for this movie when it was first coming out. It’s totally underrated.
Nothing’s better than watching a brand new commentary from ange at 1:40am (i know. i should sleep).
Btw if you havent yet you should check out the how to train your dragon trilogy, very heartwarming movies ❤️
13:20 I don't know what's funnier the verbal diarrhea that poured out in this attempt at a sentence, or the fact that I understood the entire thing! LMAO
Fun fact, for the "master builder vision" the numbers that pop up are the lego pieces actual part numbers! The animators did an excellent job. And the only stop motion in The Lego Movie is the end credits.
The cardboard tube Finn (the human kid) sends Emmet back to his home through is called Magic Portal which is named after an actual stop-motion Lego short film called The Magic Portal that was a big influence for this movie. The short is actually up on RUclips if u want to see it!! It's a fun short!
29:15 this Angelina, this is why we didn't tell you. because now you got to experience the brilliance of it unspoiled!
ONE OF THE BEST ANIMATED MOVIES!
I saw this movie when it released my freshman year of college and immediately spent my big boy money on the soundtrack when I saw it at target
The LEGO Batman Movie is actually also pretty great. :)
It’s funny that this was just a high quality ad but it was legit good
This film is fully CG but animated to look like it is 'stop-motion'
This movie brings back so many happy memories
The fact that it's mostly CG is still mind boggling to me! It looks so much like a stop motion production! It's really impressive!
1:32 woahhh come its 2022 lego come in many colours
1 its all CG
2. every single time you see lego with the number its an actual piece, all of the pieces in this movie are real pieces
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME
I got all the Rick and Morty references! We got you, girl.
WOOOOO!~
this was one of my favorite Chris pratt roles, he's that cherry guy that you actually want to hang out with. You should really watch the lego batman movie next.
Never realized how stacked this cast was
I love how you bring everything back to Oogway and Kung Fu Panda! Also I’ve never seen Rick & Morty 🙈 Loved this film and great commentary as always Ange
2:24 “and always be happy”

The directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, also gave us the 21 Jump Street movies, and Spider-Man into the spider verse; not to mention the Lego movie two, and the Lego Batman movie. They are the masters of weaving fan service with comedic heartfelt storytelling!
Damn they directed alot of the greatest of the decade if we're honest
I really like how the animators went so far to make you think it's stop motion when it's actually computer generated!
when the kid picked up emmett and you said “GOD?!”
JHJSAGUDJDAGAHAHA
Will Arnett is the best Batman.
He voiced Bojack Horseman, if you're wondering where you know the voice from!
The video game based around this movie is a blast to play and i actually had rented it and started to play before thinking it might be more interesting to see the movie before finishing the game. Two achievements had to do w/ getting a perfect on a dance portion while the song Everything is Awesome was playing.
Anything LEGO is Awesome!!
If you wanna see some alternate animation style then check out the movies by Cartoon Saloon, its an Irish Studio so they lean heavily on their Irish myths and history for their beautiful movies.
Secrete of Kells - 2009
Song of the Sea - 2014
The Breadwinner - 2017 (This one actually focuses on a middle eastern girl and is a very good movie)
Wolfwalkers - 2020
I saw the Lego Movie in the theater when it came out, and I was just as stunned as you were by the quality of the animation, and the twist at the ending with real people.
Please watch WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT!
The entire thing is CGI, but they were very careful (in this one, at least) to never do anything that real LEGO pieces couldn’t actually do, as an homage to all the stop-motion fan films that inspired it.
I'm still mad that this didn't even get nominated for an Oscar
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT MOVIE
1:52 no most licensed characters have normal skin
13:24 Being billirant is definitely something I aspire to
That's my childhood right there.
Angelina when seeing Emmet for the first time: wait he's so adorable
couldn't agree more, with a face so plain that it's adorable, nothing can stop this man (except self-esteem issues)
Love this movie, cause ..🎵 Everything Is Awesome 🎵
Honestly the only voice that I couldn't recognize in the movie is Nick Offerman as Metalbeard. He speaks like a whole octave higher than his normal voice and he does such a great pirate accent.
it’s like free guy but in lego

Also, he dies before Quint. Frankly, all the characters are douchebags.

The old west "ay yaya", is a throw back to the old Clint Eastwood "Spagetti Westerns" from the 70's. If you heard the actual music, you might recognize it ... since it has been used literally EVERYWHERE. ..... just sayin'.
This Movie brings back memories every time from my Childhood especially from 2014 in which this movie came out
