@mariaghiglieri78 More than three, actually. Only Wadsworth, Yvette, and Mrs Peacock could have killed the cook, and I think only those plus Professor Plum could have killed Mr Boddy. Mr Green and Yvette couldn't have killed the motorist. Anyone could have killed the last three because they were all split up by that point. The only one who couldn't have done it as part of a pair with Yvette was Mr Green, and he could have done it as part of a pair with Wadsworth.
Love that you had such a blast watching this. One of my favorite comedies and simply a perfect adaptation of something as strange to adapt as a board game. About the tape recording being in being inadmissible in court, it varies from state to state how many parties have to agree to being recorded from both sides or just from one side. If it was set in a two party consent state then everyone would need to agree. California, Florida, and Pennsylvania are two party so if it was set in PA then it wouldn't be admissable.
I’ll watch Clue anytime, anywhere with anyone- I never get tired of it! We lost Colonel Mustard last month. RIP Martin Mull. I suggest Mr Mom if it hasn’t been watched already. He was great in it.
Another movie in the same vein as this one is "Murder By Death". It bombed in the theaters, but I have always loved that movie. Tons of great stars in it, like this one, and also involving a murder that takes place in a mansion/castle. As you may have heard, "Clue" was filmed with multiple different endings and you never know which one your theater was going to get. When they released it on home video they gave us all of them rolled into one!
Every theatre showing the movie noted which ending (A,B, or C) was being screened on the poster. But it was very small print and not widely publicized.
Can't believe this hasn't won a poll sooner, this feels right in your wheelhouse. A murder mystery but whimsical and funny, great music, you've even mentioned loving board games in the past too if I'm not mistaken.
For another superb comedy murder mystery, might I recommend the movie " Murder By Death " starring Peter Sellers, David Niven, Maggie Smith, James Coco and Peter Falk.
@DrummingWriterTrekfan84 , depends on the men. The men I dates didn’t last past 4 months! My wife has lasted nearly nine years… and put a ring on it… just one example. 🤣
Great movie! You should also consider these great murder mysteries: Murder by Death, Murder on the Orient Express, Dial "M" for Murder, and Death on the Nile.
31:42 - NINE YEARS EARLIER... ' MURDER BY DEATH' is a 1976 American comedy mystery film directed by Robert Moore and written by Neil Simon. Stars include Peter Falk, Alec Guinness, Elsa Lanchester, David Niven, Peter Sellers, and Maggie Smith.
If you liked this, you have got to watch "Murder By Death". It is a Neil Simon comedy where everyone invited to dinner is a famous detective. Absolutely hilarious.
The movie gets better on second viewing. Once you know the story you can see all the great acting choices played from the very beginning and dialogue that makes later scenes play so much better. Truly a great film. Also saw an interview with Tim Curry where he said they filmed another ending.
yes there was a 4th ending, where Tim Curry kills everyone, then leaves in a car, then you hear the dogs growling in the back seat & they kill him, but it didn't work, & all the footage is now lost
My most watched genre of RUclips video is Clue reactions. I just love watching people experience my favourite movie for the first time. Especially people who like the board game.
One of the reasons (besides the obvious ones) that the final/third ending is best is because the whole “everybody did it” idea is a very clever homage to the immortal Agatha Christie, her work, and specifically the ending of one of her most famous stories. The idea plays out VERY differently in the original Christie story but the reference is pretty clearly intended in the ending of this movie. I’m purposely not spoiling the Christie story or even naming it in case Jen ever gets around to watching any of the movie adaptation of her books.
When it came out there were 3 endings yes . They were advertised on the Maques as Clue A , or Clue B or Clue C. Another point is How many big game stars in this movie Eileen Brennan was on a big show called Private Benjimine ( it was based off of a movie) Tim- So many movies Rock Horror, Annie, Legend etc. Madeline Kahn- wow Young Frankenstein, History of the world etc. Christopher Loyd- Back to the Future , Roger Rabit, the Addams Family. Michael McKean- Lovern and Shirly , Earth girls are easy, this is Spinal tap, Matin Mull- had a show called Fernwood tonight. Lesley Ann Waren -Victor Victoria ,, Life Stinks, And Jane Wiedlin from the Gogos was the singing telegram girl. Just an amazing cast.
The film rolls out like a play and you seem to be enjoying it. There's a film called 'Noises Off' that takes place as a play and you're watching it from the audience. It's frenetic, very fast paced. I'm pretty sure you'll love it. Madeline Kahn is hysterical in 'Blazing Saddles' another Mel Brooks classic.
When I was on Twitter (now X), I followed Michael McKean (Mr Green) I once told him how much I loved this movie. I also said it looked like a fun cast. He replied "Best lunches ever." I've had mad respect for him since.
This flick is such quintessentially Jen fare that I'd actually created a false memory of you having already watched and reacted to it years ago 😄 So glad you finally got to make it a reality!
This was by far one of my favorite films to watch as a kid. It is still hilarious. I love the game and I credit this film for getting me interested in older music.
There actually is a play version a friend of mine was in much. They shuffled up and selected the cards like the game and left them on stage to reveal at the end of the play. The person who drew the cards is the only one who knew and their dialog changes, which reveals to the actors which path was selected.
Haunted Honeymoon 1986 with Gene Wilder, also a comedy mystery Murder by Death 1976, one of the best of that genre. Radioland Murders 1994 Just to name what I can remember, but all of them are a must see.
Lee Ving is better known for being the frontman (and only remaining original member) of the band FEAR. He started using that name in the late 1960s, when he was playing with blues artists.
Between Tim Curry, Lee Ving, Jane Wiedlin (The Go-Go's) and Michael McKean (Spinal Tap), this movie has bona fide rock star cred. Add Howard Hesseman in there for good measure (an actual rock station DJ in his younger days, as well as playing Dr. Johnny Fever on WKRP). 🤟🎶
@@samzilla1281 To be honest, I had to look it up to make sure. I knew it was at least since the mid-70s (when he started playing with metal bands, before forming FEAR), though, if not further back.
I HIGHLY recommend What’s Up Doc? Madeline Kahn’s first major film and she’s A-mazing in it. It’s a hysterical screwball comedy with a ridiculous car chase and Barbra Streisand!
This movie takes place in the 1950's so he was an FBI agent first. He was working undercover in Spinal Tap investigating the mysterious deaths of the drummers.
For Comedy Murder Mystery try - Murder By Death - Cheap Detective - Mel Brooks High Anxiety - Deathtrap - Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - just to name a few good ones
I love Jen's reaction to this. I love goofy comedies like this and she clearly gets it. One of the funniest parts is Mr. Green (Michael McKeen) and goofy smile with the cop. "I didn't know it was THAT free." LMAO.
This is such a fun movie. The wordplay from Wadsworth is great. And the reenactment scene. I love his little smile. I can't think of anyone else who could have pulled this off other than Tim Curry. Thanks for watching this and sharing. "I hope it's something at the end that makes sense ..." Well, about that.😂
Several years ago, my local Community Little Theater did this play, and at intermission the audience voted on which ending to use. Even the actors didn't know which ending they'd be performing each show.
Love your reactions! Even in a mostly non-musical movie like this, you still can't help picking out parts like the timpani. Such a classic film. We have a board game group that meets every Wednesday. You're welcome to join! 😁

😄 In case you didn't notice, the singing telegram girl was played by Jane Wiedlin, who also played Joan Of Arc in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." 😜 I'll name another movie that is exactly like this one..."Murder By Death" (1976). 🥸 Incidentally, there are loads of great movies out there with Madeline Kahn in them. I highly recommend "What's Up Doc?" (1972). 😉👍
Mr Boddy was played by Lee Ving, singer of the hardcore band, Fear. Also acted in Streets of Fire. The singing telegram girl was played by Jane wiedlin, guitarist of the band, The Go-Gos. Also starred in Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure as Joan of Arc
14:43 ~ Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn) also played Lili Von Shtupp in Blazing Saddles "They're always coming and going And going and coming And always too soon"
When this came out, our local mini-mall theatre, which had 4 screens showed the film quite interestingly. Screen 1 showed ending 1, screen 2 was ending 2, screen 3 was ending 3 and screen 4 showed THIS version, showing all three endings. When they RE-released it onto DVD there is now an option to choose endings 1, 2 or 3 PLUS the option to select "random ending" that way, you don't know which ending you're watching until the end. :)
"Murder By Death" (1976) is another comedy whodunnit. It features parodies of many famous literary detectives, such as Poirot, Miss Marple, and others. Like "Clue" it features an all-star cast of the era.
Tim Curry was perfect as Wadsworth, but the filmmakers very nearly cast Rowan Atkinson in the role. Carrie Fisher was originally cast as Miss Scarlet, but had to withdraw for addiction treatment.
Another movie from the 70’s is Murder By Death. It stars Peter Sellers, Peter Falk, David Niven, Alec Guiness, and a few others. It’s also a comedy. There are many comedy murder mysteries usually in the 30’s-50’s.
Great reaction Jen. Or is it Miss Lavender? 😊 Usually when I watch Clue, I'll also watch Murder by Death. It's a detective movie spoof, and a lot of fun. Knowing a little Agatha Christie, Thin Man, and Charlie Chan is helpful, but not necessary. Madeline Kahn was also in Blazing Saddles, (which I thought you saw, but if you haven't, you should), and High Anxiety, (which is Mel Brooks' tribute to Alfred Hitchcock.) Haunted Honeymoon is another murder mystery comedy, that you might consider for Halloween. I know you like going into them blind, so I'll only say that you love the lead actor.
Other silly, charming, and fun movies like this in my opinion: Dave, In & Out, Noises Off, Soup Dish, The Court Jester (One of my childhood favs) and Galaxy Quest of course.
I love that the Blu-ray allows you to choose whether you get one of the endings at random or all of them in sequence. Personally, I prefer the latter as it adds to the hijinks. 🤓
This made my night. Thank you for doing this reaction. I love this movie. My family had the DVD that randomly play different endings, thus, it never got old. I think another mystery comedy is Murder by Death, but there are some others albeit the ones I can think of are black and white older movies. Arsenic and Old Lace. (A great one for Halloween since it is set at that time.) The Thin Man movies. (There are many of them.) And others, many others that I can't seem to remember at the moment.
Love 'Arsenic & Old Lace'. One of my all time favorites. Great movie that I would Highly recommend For 'Murder by Death' . The movies, &/or characters, she would need to watch/know before watching it re The Thin Man movies. I think there are 6, but just the first, maybe second movies are needed to get/understand the characters Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot. Characters from Agatha Christy Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. The character is Extreme ethnic misrepresentation Sam Spade, fictional character, the quintessential hard-boiled private detective, the protagonist of a novel (The Maltese Falcon, 1930) and several short stories by Dashiell Hammett.
Clue is a fictionalized version of the board game. It has many features from this game, such as the characters and colors of the pawns, as well as the pawns standing next to each other go beyond the board, so here they also have a problem when they go through the door together. In cinemas, each of the three endings was played randomly so that people would not know which one was true.
A BIG thank you to whoever suggested this movie for Jen to react to! Before *_Scott Pilgrim vs. The World_* came out (and later on *_Deadpool_* ) this was my favorite movie of all time! (Literally watched it hundreds of times!) 😁👍

Mr Green and Yvette couldn't have killed the motorist. Anyone could have killed the last three because they were all split up by that point. The only one who couldn't have done it as part of a pair with Yvette was Mr Green, and he could have done it as part of a pair with Wadsworth.
this movie is so great. The cast, the humor, the twist(s).
For almost 40 years, I still say "Too Late!"
I maintain that the Singing Telegram is the funniest part of the movie.
That was Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Gos. She was also Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
@@knavehart Ah, didn't know that, but it makes sense. That way you can be sure to catch all versions of the movie at different theaters.
and Elieen Brenan was also in Muder by Death as the sexy secretary to the Sam Spade parody played by Columbo.
Aaah I LOVED Murder by Death when I was a kid. I think there's some pretty racist yellow face though? ew. Apart from *that*, ahem, it was stellar!
@@crowfoot1199 well Peter Sellars was mocking the previous actors that did "yellow face" so it should be mostly alright
Yep, very similar in many ways. "Murder" bombed in theaters but I always loved it.
Love this movie
Absolutely!
And Truman Capote. Totally underappreciated movie.
She needs to watch a few older movies before watching it or she won't understand who they're spoofing though.
Jen you're the first reactor I've seen get the "Frankly Scarlett I don't give a dam" reference from Gone with the Wind ❤
And I haven't seen Gone with the Wind, I just know the quote 😂
The book is better.
"Husbands should be like Kleenex. Soft, strong, and disposable." One of my favorite lines in all of cinema. 😂😂😂😂

Great reaction as always Jen 😀 My favourite movie with Madeline Kahn is What’s Up Doc!
31:42 - NINE YEARS EARLIER... '
MURDER BY DEATH' is a 1976 American comedy mystery film directed by Robert Moore and written by Neil Simon. Stars include Peter Falk, Alec Guinness, Elsa Lanchester, David Niven, Peter Sellers, and Maggie Smith.
Watching you watch these movies is just so joyful
Madeline was also Lily Vonn Schtuup in Blazing Saddles.
Note Miss Scarlett os played by Leslie Ann Down, who was in the movie the Pink Panther Strikes Again, another series of films you should check out.
Mr. Green he was also in the Tv show “Laverne and Shirley”
“Better Call Saul”
and the movie “This Is Spinal Tap “
Great in X-Files too.
He played a manifestation of fear as a rather disturbing clown character in an episode of Star Trek Voyager
@@susanliltz3875 Also a surfing pool cleaner in Earth Girls Are Easy 🤟
@@stevebennett9750 "A vi-rus, a vi-rus, he thinks we are a virus!"
He was in Short Circuit 2, Airheads, and quite a few others.
Another point is How many big game stars in this movie
Eileen Brennan was on a big show called Private Benjimine ( it was based off of a movie)
Tim- So many movies Rock Horror, Annie, Legend etc.
Madeline Kahn- wow Young Frankenstein, History of the world etc.
Christopher Loyd- Back to the Future , Roger Rabit, the Addams Family.
Michael McKean- Lovern and Shirly , Earth girls are easy, this is Spinal tap,
Matin Mull- had a show called Fernwood tonight.
Lesley Ann Waren -Victor Victoria ,, Life Stinks,
And Jane Wiedlin from the Gogos was the singing telegram girl.
Just an amazing cast.
I love this movie, have watched it a dozen times and it is still funny.
Was going to post about Noises Off, also. Seeing one of these two films always makes me think about the other. It has a very strong cast as well.
I’ve always considered Clue and Noises Off sister films! Glad to see I’m not alone!
Oops! I just suggested this for the same reasons in my own comment. Love these two films! 😍
When I was on Twitter (now X), I followed Michael McKean (Mr Green) I once told him how much I loved this movie. I also said it looked like a fun cast. He replied "Best lunches ever." I've had mad respect for him since.
He was also in Young Doctors in Love, which I don't recall being bad.
The only one who calls it X is the guy who changed the name, so don't worry: you won't confuse anyone.
I think you would really enjoy “Murder by Death”! It spoofs a lot of murder-mystery characters and has a similar vibe to Clue!
The person who drew the cards is the only one who knew and their dialog changes, which reveals to the actors which path was selected.
thats cool
Haunted Honeymoon 1986 with Gene Wilder, also a comedy mystery
Murder by Death 1976, one of the best of that genre.
Radioland Murders 1994
Just to name what I can remember, but all of them are a must see.
I like your reactions to comedies best. Your cheerfulness and sarcastic comments are great!
One thing that gets me is that Mr. Boddy was played by an actor using the stage name Lee Ving. And that Professor Plum works for UNO-WHO
Lee Ving is better known for being the frontman (and only remaining original member) of the band FEAR.
@@0okamino I knew that he was the front man for a band, I didn't know that he started using the name that early.
@@samzilla1281 To be honest, I had to look it up to make sure. I knew it was at least since the mid-70s (when he started playing with metal bands, before forming FEAR), though, if not further back.
Lee Ving was also in Streets of Fire.
I've been waiting a long time for this one. Thanks for reacting and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
I HIGHLY recommend What’s Up Doc? Madeline Kahn’s first major film and she’s A-mazing in it. It’s a hysterical screwball comedy with a ridiculous car chase and Barbra Streisand!
You made this fun to watch again. You enjoyed all the same parts that I loved as a kid!
Amazing that David St. Hubbins went on to become an FBI agent. That house was like a Hell Hole.
This movie takes place in the 1950's so he was an FBI agent first. He was working undercover in Spinal Tap investigating the mysterious deaths of the drummers.
@@ramonacosta2647 Dammit! I got the timeline wrong! Thanks for correcting me! I wonder if Yvette was an inspiration for Big Bottom...
@@bkeyser Not sure, but I bet Miss Scarlet was smelling the glove.
Even the actors didn't know which ending they'd be performing each show.
oh cool
Your laughter is so infectious and hilarious Jen!!! LMAO😅🤣😂
Love your reactions! Even in a mostly non-musical movie like this, you still can't help picking out parts like the timpani. Such a classic film.

11:34 oddly enough, I went to see live play of this and it was hilarious! Even my mother-in-law, who had never seen the movie, had a blast.
I had this on VHS and watched it at least a hundred times when I was a kid
The Bullet on grazed Mr body's ear? I guess he'll need a maxi pad for that...
Last fall, I played Wadsworth in a local stage production of Clue. It was my favorite game growing up.
All star performances by everyone, but especially Tim Curry & Madeline Kahn!
I think my favorite role Madeline Kahn played was Victoria Brisbane in High Anxiety. R.I.P. Martin Mull, what a talent.
Yes! One of my favorite movies of all time.
Singing Telegram was Ex Go Goes Guitarist Jane Weidlan who was Joan of Atc from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
14:43 ~ Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn) also played Lili Von Shtupp in Blazing Saddles
"They're always coming and going
And going and coming
And always too soon"
"It's twue! It's twue!"
R. I. P Martin Mull Colonel Mustard
Mr Green was played by Michael McKean who was also in This is Spinal Tap.
So excited for Jen's Clue reaction !!!
Tim Curry is hilarious!
I'm so happy you watched this one. one of my favorite comedies😅
Madeline Kahn was also in Blazing Saddles, (which I thought you saw, but if you haven't, you should), and High Anxiety, (which is Mel Brooks' tribute to Alfred Hitchcock.)
Haunted Honeymoon is another murder mystery comedy, that you might consider for Halloween. I know you like going into them blind, so I'll only say that you love the lead actor.
Murder by Death. That's the next one to watch in this genre.
(A great one for Halloween since it is set at that time.)
The Thin Man movies. (There are many of them.)
And others, many others that I can't seem to remember at the moment.
Love 'Arsenic & Old Lace'. One of my all time favorites. Great movie that I would Highly recommend
For 'Murder by Death' . The movies, &/or characters, she would need to watch/know before watching it re
The Thin Man movies. I think there are 6, but just the first, maybe second movies are needed to get/understand the characters
Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot. Characters from Agatha Christy
Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. The character is Extreme ethnic misrepresentation
Sam Spade, fictional character, the quintessential hard-boiled private detective, the protagonist of a novel (The Maltese Falcon, 1930) and several short stories by Dashiell Hammett.
"Would you be kind enough to wait in the um, in, in the, eh, mm, er, library," is one of my most favourite lines in anything.
And, yes, there have been quite a few stage productions of this movie.
Loved this movie....yes; this was a play as well. All the actors were terrific. Loved seeing this in the theater. Family all came together to explain what their ending was as we all went to different theaters...Loved it! Simpler times before internet.
Miss Scarlett is Leslie Ann Warren she’s been in a lot of movies.
Back in the 1960s (or1970) she was in Rogers and Hamersteins “Cinderella “!
She was a beautiful Cinderella!!!
She's dynamite in this. 🥵
And she was also an IMF member in season 5 of Mission Impossible.
And Victor/ Victoria ( 1982) .
She was in a movie with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell.
