Hey there everyone! Terribly sorry for the belated video but life got a bit busy lol. Anyway I hope you all enjoyed the video. I originally had way more questions in the original draft but I realized it would be made the video length seem daunting for a tag so I had to cut it down a but. I may do a part 2 in the future but for now, I hope you enjoyed and if you want to do it yourself, feel free to!
    - Again for the sake of this tag, please keep it strictly centered on 𝗚𝗢𝗧𝗛 music only ( 𝐆𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤, 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐤, 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞, 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞, & 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐯𝐞).
    - No 𝐆𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥, 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐨𝐩, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 (𝐄𝐁𝐌, 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥, 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐩, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤, 𝐀𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡, & 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡-𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞), & 𝐍𝐞𝐨𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜.
Thanks again for watching and have a great day!

Really liked your video. The Cure's Love Song is what my husband and I refer to as 'our song'. I love the old goth bands but am definitely loving the newer music. I have tickets to se She Past Away and Drab Majesty in Glasgow in a couple of weeks and have already bought my tickets for the Tomorrow's Ghost festival in Whitby in November as She Past Away and Clan of Xmox are playing. Bauhaus were the first goth band I loved and the first one I saw live and they will always have a special place for me. I saw Pete Murphy and David J on the 40 years of Bauhaus tour last year and the stuff still sounded great but I understand they are not for everyone. I saw Fields of the Nephilim last year for the first time since the 80's and they were still brilliant too. Always interested in new music though, that is what will keep the scene and the subculture alive 😀

Love this tag so much! Here are my answers (sorry if I'm late to the party but perfect for Halloween season)
    1. Who was the first Goth band you ever listened to? The Cure. I first discovered them in Catholic school and I was very into 80s music, and the first song I heard from them was Just Like Heaven, and ever since, I loved binge-listening to their albums.
    2. How were you introduced to Goth music? On the internet and on the radio (Sirius XM's 80s on 8 played a little bit of The Cure and Love And Rockets)
    3. What was your first impression of Goth music? I really liked it because I was intrigued by its atmospheric sound
    4. Favorite Originating Goth Band? (The First Wave of Goth music)- Bauhaus because of their legacy and musical influence in the goth subculture (I also love their side projects like Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, etc) . The Cure is a close second
    5. Favorite Goth Sub-Genre? Gothic Rock and Darkwave
    6. Favorite Era of Goth Music? 80s, 90s and 2010s
    7. Top 5 Favorite Goth Bands? Xmal Deutschland, She Past Away, Requiem in White, Twin Tribes, and Rosetta Stone (this is tough because mine are always subject to change)
    8. Top 3 Goth Albums? Disintegration by The Cure, Ceremony by Twin Tribes, and a two-way tie between An Eye for the Main Chance by Rosetta Stone and Of the Want Infinite by Requiem in White
    9. Favorite Goth Songs? (At least 5) Augenblick by Xmal Deutschland, The River by Twin Tribes, Call Before Me by Requiem in White, Deliverance by The Mission, If Only and Sometimes by Rosetta Stone, Asimilasyon by She Past Away, One Hundred Years by The Cure, Dark Entries by Bauhaus, Claire's Horrors by London After Midnight, Dissolve by Switchblade Symphony, Glare by Diva Destruction, Twilight by Corpus Delicti, Beauty of Poisin by Specimen, Death in the Hallway by Vision Video, and Amphetamine Logic by Sisters of Mercy (so many to name, sorry lol)
    10. Is there a Goth band who you couldn't get into? Not really, I'm just not a big fan of the 2000s goth music with the whole deathrock revival thing
    11. Favorite Iconic Female Goth Lead Singer? Lisa Hammer because as a singer, I love her operatic voice blended with gothic rock and ethereal wave sound with Requiem in White and Mors Syphilitica
    12. Thoughts on Andrew Eldritch? I think he's a musical genius since The Sisters of Mercy are one of my all-time favorite bands but I dislike him as a person.
    13. What are your thoughts on modern Goth bands who've come out since 2010? I am into them. I really love the nostalgic vibe, and I know that people say that 2010s bands rip off some older goth bands but I didn't care because I really loved the sound with a mix of old and new. Twin Tribes, She Past Away and Vision Video are the big three for me that really got me intrigued and it made me feel nostalgic in a good way. I also like another band Bastet, which is an all-female death rock band, Diavol Strain from Chile who are a darkwave duo, and recently Deus Faust, Bat Nouveau, and Shadow Age.
    14. If you could start a Goth band, what instrument would you play and what bands would you take influence from? I would sing, maybe play synth and guitar, with some drum machine programming (even though I don't have experience at all with drum machines lol). Vocally, I would take influence from Xmal Deutschland and Requiem in White, and in terms of musical influence, I would like a mix of The Cure, Bauhaus, and Rosetta Stone/Corpus Delicti, with a hint of She Past Away.
Hope you liked my answers :))

It is always interesting seeing other people's musical journeys. It is so funny to me when I look back to my teen years because in the late 90s and early 2000s so many people labelled anything dark as "goth." I knew I liked darker art forms and the overall aesthetic, but I never got into Marilyn Manson and whatever else was being labelled goth at the time. My parents were also super religious so I didn't get to really explore music like I wanted and I had few friends so not much was being introduced to me. It was my freedom in college that finally helped me to discover my musical tastes. I found Siouxsie and the Banshees first which is what started me down the path of discovering lots of great music. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that goth rock and other related genres didn't sound like what the mainstream labelled as goth. I agree with you on the 90s sound. There are so many amazing bands from that decade. Have you heard Rosetta Stone's new album yet? It consists of Porl King's songs from Misery Lab but he reworked them for a more Rosetta Stone sound.

    • @KaiDecadence
      @KaiDecadence  5 лет назад

Yep, that's what the tag is about. Nerding out about the music and sharing memories haha. And yes while the 90s was a great time for Goth music as we got the second wave era of Goth bands like Suspiria, Love Like Blood, Rosetta Stone, Switchblade Symphony, etc. it was also a horrible time for it because mainstream media started labeling any band with musicians wearing dark colors or sounding depressing or metal-ish as Goth and then the whole "Industrial is the new Goth" thing which just isn't true. Eugfh yeah, it was a mess haha. And I felt the same way when I got into Goth music. I was afraid it was gonna sound like Death Metal but I was so glad to be mistaken lol.
And I've only heard their single off their new album but I'll be giving them a listen along with the new Paralysed Age album eventually soon. :)

A bit late, but I recently had the joy of seeing Mission UK, fronted by Wayne Hussey from SoM. I've been into 80's Goth since, well, the 80's. So here goes:
    1. Bauhaus was my first Goth love
    2. We passed mix tapes around back then so that was the only way, besides college radio or KNON, to hear alternative music.
    3. First impression: WTF and why is it so awesome!
    4. Oddly, Duran Duran though not really Goth. Early Duran was darker and more artsy, and most other bands I listened to at the time was not standard radio fare (Blondie, Clash, Numan, punk).
    5. Hmm, Darkwave. I like a bit of old shoegaze, or Cocteau Twins. Xymox is a fave.
    6. Late 80's to early 90s.
    7. Top 5 bands: Xymox, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, She Past Away (tied with Project Pitchfork)
    8. The Sky's Gone Out (bauhaus), Twist of Shadows (Xymox), anything by Sisters of Mercy
    9. I honestly can't pick 3 albums.
    10. Can't think of any but I don't like death metal or demonic kind of stuff. Pagan is cool.
    11. Nina Hagen - not really Goth but loved by the elders. Emilie Autumn is awesome too (Steampunk)
    12. Andrew Eldritch is brilliant, but we all know he's an ass. Really. He's an ass.
    13. I like the Darkwave.
    14. If I started a band, I would sing in the style of the 4AD era. I can't sing :(

      @KaiDecadence  5 лет назад

Bella Morte are quite good but I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Neoclassical Darkwave is not a real thing, it's just just neoclassical. After I did my Goth Honest Talk video, I was compiling some stuff for a video I have planned later for the year where I go into the Goth subgenres and I was doing my research for "Neoclassical Darkwave" and I came to find that it was not a real fusion and that most bands that were labeled as such like Arcana, Nox Arcana, Dark Sanctuary, and Elend were just simply neoclassical. They don't use any elements from actual Darkwave music.

@@KaiDecadence I meant goth-wise. I was, also, introduced to the sound through The Cure at around thirteen when I watched a documentary on them, and my favourite of the big-five is The Sisters of Mercy as well. And I really like Suspiria, Clan of Xymox, She Past Away, Siouxsie, etc.. In the past, I wanted to be a vocalist and a bassist of a band, too. Some differences, though, are: I really enjoy Bauhaus as much as the other ones, but unlikes with Siouxsie, 'Sisters of Mercy, and The Cure, they did grow on me. The first three I liked right from the start. And, I tend to lean more toward gothic rock and post-punk instead of darkwave/ethereal wave, but I love all. And, it changes. Sometimes I prefer more darkwave than the others. Either way, death rock is my least favourite, but I like some of it. Alien Sex Fiend might be my favourite from that subgenre. =)

just gonna comment my answers instead of making a vid lol
    1. my first band was joy division since my boyfriend was super into them for a long time. he's moved on to folk punk music mostly, but joy division has stuck as my favorite
    2. as mentioned, i was introduced through my boyfriend, the first goth song i ever heard was atrocity exhibition by joy division
    3. i enjoyed it, but it didn't really stick out to me at first as i was primarily into metal and classic punk. not sure when that changed, but eventually it just clicked
    4. joy division is definitely my favorite, since they're also my favorite overall band. bauhaus is a pretty close second
    5. it's pretty much a tie between deathrock and ethereal wave for me
    6. honestly probably the 2010s, this is probably a somewhat unpopular opinion but i love the modern sound, especially bands like this cold night, rosegarden funeral party, house of harm, medusa stare, and dead cult. the 80s is a very close second
    7. (pretty loosely ranked) joy division, voodoo church, this cold night, rosegarden funeral party, ex voto
    8. unknown pleasures - joy division, voodoo church's self titled, and anno domini - ex voto probably, but this is a really difficult question
    9. new dawn fades - joy division, once in a while - rosegarden funeral party, the undead - voodoo church, death knell - this cold night, kiss kiss bang bang - specimen. i'd do more, but if i went past 5 i wouldn't stop lol
    10. i haven't been able to get into lesbian death bed, their guitar tone feels wrong for the genre and while it's got some deliberate cheesiness they don't do it as well as bands like scary bitches. i also haven't been able to get all that into lebanon hanover, mainly because of william maybelline's very forced deep vocals. i like their early work and some select later songs and i son't hate any of it but i'm just not as into them as a lot of others seem to be
    11. this is definitely basic but siouxsie sioux, her voice is just so great and she was so important to the creation of the scene. if i were to choose any female singers, however, i'd choose leah lane of rosegarden funeral party, as her band is just so unique sounding and she has such an amazing voice (very reminiscent of siouxsie sioux, actually, but still with her own distinctive flair)
    12. i think he's great, i have a world of warcraft character named after him lol
    13. the 2010s are honestly my favorite era, i don't understand the hate a lot of people seem to have for the modern music
    14. i'd play guitar, and my music would probably be deathrock inspired specifically by bands like voodoo church, dead cult, medusa stare, and children with dog feet

What do you think about Sopor Aeternus ?

    • @KaiDecadence
      @KaiDecadence  5 лет назад

Funny you ask this because I was wondering about her myself last weekend. I listened to more of her music and I concluded that her music does not fit the Goth genre. Her music is very dark yes but it really doesn't take any characteristics found in actual Goth music. There is no Goth rock reverb guitar found anywhere in her music and while she does play around with synth sometimes, in order for a genre to be actual Darkwave, it needs to have both the Goth rock guitar + Synth even if the Goth rock guitar is in the background (You can hear this in bands like Clan of Xymox, The Frozen Autumn, and Drab Majesty for example).
I tried looking to see what music inspires her and she's very vague but in one interview, she said she was inspired by theatrical music so I would conclude that the genre of music she plays is Neoclassical music and well, Neoclassical is a sub-genre of Classical music, not Goth music.
For the longest time people called their music "Neoclassical Darkwave" but upon further inspection, there just is not any genuine Darkwave in her sound, it's predominantly classical (usually Baroque inspired) music with the occasional synth and drumming so yeah, it's really just Neoclassical.
Now what do I think of her as a whole? I think she's a creative person who makes interesting music.

Now if you're asking me if I think they are Goth, eh... I don't think I would call them "Goth" but just modern day Post-Punk. Pretty much the 2000s Editors. But again, great band.

Kai Decadence Okay. I guess I’m a little confused. They might not be “goth” per say but deff a post punk sound...but isnt post punk where goth got its start? I’m still new to what is and isnt goth when it comes to music so I’m still trying to ‘find my sound’ as you could say She Wants Revenge is very much a sound I like so maybe I swing more towards post punk?

@@AndreasMusicWorld Let me put it like this. Grunge was influenced by Punk music but yet Grunge and Punk are not the same thing as a genre. That is what Post-Punk is to Goth music. The Cure, Joy Division, and Siouxsie And the Banshee's Post-Punk work was what inspired the first wave of Goth rock which is what The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees contributed in the beginning of the 80s with their first Goth rock records (and in Siouxsie's case, their only Goth rock album).
I plan on making a video about this so stay tuned for that where I will be breaking things down a bit. As for whether if you are more of a post-punk fan, I suggest trying out these bands and if you like them, Post-Punk is definitely for you.

@@AndreasMusicWorld No problem, not many people know that Goth was and still is a music-based subculture and the music can be a little confusing at first but trust me, the more you listen to it, you'll be able to understand. :)

How is she wants revenge not goth ?

It really comes down to their instrumental sound structure and She Wants Revenge goes for the classic Post-Punk sound and don't use any Goth rock elements in their music. In the time they came out (2006), there was a Post-Punk revival with other bands like the continuation of Interpol, Bloc Party, White Lies, & The Editors and all of these bands were pretty much the modern day 80s Post-Punk Killing Joke, The Chameleons, Echo & The Bunnymen, & The Psychedelic Furs of the 2000s. But because these bands don't use any actual Goth structural characteristics, that is what makes them not Goth but at the most, Dark Alternative. Still a good band but just not a Goth band.

@@KaiDecadence I agree that She Wants Revenge should be categorized as a post-punk revival band, but I do just want to give my personal opinion on the whole "are they goth?" debate. I own their first album and have listened to it countless times. Although I wouldn't say they're 100% a goth band, I do personally believe they're extremely goth-inspired and even borderline a goth hybrid band. A lot of people only know them for their hit songs, and yes -- those ones are not entirely goth, but post-punk revival/dark indie. However, there are numerous other tracks they've done that contain elements or are even full on darkwave, minimalwave, or goth rock songs. Their song "Monologue" is 100% a modern darkwave/minimalwave track. It could fit into any goth playlist, in my opinion. It's got the driving bassline, kick-snare pattern found in darkwave and other genres, and has the classic reverberated, droning vocal style. I totally see why people don't embrace them as a goth band though, but I thought I'd point out that they're one of those bands that's not so black and white -- kind of like with bands like Drab Majesty who ride the border of goth/shoegaze and new wave. If anything, She Wants Revenge is one of the only examples of the post-punk revival that was directly inspired by and crossed over with goth music. The second closest would probably be Interpol (which is also a great band loved by goths, but was always more indie than anything goth lol).

@@Accumortis It's a good point for sure but yeah, I had a talk with Cadaver Kelly since she's more trained in the ear of instrumental structure and we talked about She Wants Revenge. She said that Goth rock uses a descending scale whereas She Wants Revenge uses an ascending while jumping around with their notes. It really comes down to musical scale.
That being said, I did hear the minimal-wave in "Monologue" when I listened to it just now so I get what you're saying but still, on a good many of their songs, they really do seem to be straight up post-punk just with some more guitar distortion than your average Post-Punk band.
I will say this though that She Wants Revenge could be a good example of a Gateway to Goth band, at least much more than bands like Marilyn Manson or Evanescence lol.

@@KaiDecadence That's true. Goth rock, coldwave, and even the fully electronic side of things use descending scales for riffs. It just makes things sound darker and has that classic goth sound. I use them in my coldwave duo project I'm working on constantly without even realizing it. I just went back to see what I'd written in my most recent tracks and yep... They're descending scale riffs. Though, I'm sure some goth bands use a variety of scales and not solely descending -- so I may need to talk to her about that one lol.
