Love how casual George is about things like the story behind grievous or how he'll get rid of Anakin's lightsaber between RotS and ANH. Just shows a good story doesn't have to be methodically planned out from start to finish, you can work with what you have and let a lot of little things fall into place later.
They're flexibly called either one; it's a colloquialism. Anakin first tells Qui-Gon he knows the latter is a Jedi because he saw his "laser sword". Lucas thinks of that kind of nuanced detail.
Millicente replicas are not as special as the real props. I would do anything to have Luke/Anakin's lightsaber hilt. The original one they made for A New Hope was made out of vintage camera parts, car parts, even Obi-Wan's original lightsaber from A New Hope had a WW1 British rifle grenade as the grip.
It's called a Graflex flash gun. You can buy authentic vintage Graflexs and exact replica parts like the switch box, buttons, circuit board card, etc...and you can make your own version that would be a perfect 1 to 1 copy of the original prop...with the only exception being that it wasn't used on set. Other than that, it would be every bit as authentic. I know, because I've done it. I've also gotten FX sabers commissioned and made for me, some even with very elaborate and intricate faux crystal chambers. They are very expensive, but very much worth it if you enjoy lightsabers as they are the closest thing you can get to actually owning a real functioning lightsaber. I have quite the collection now. I have 3 Graflex hilts. All in slightly different variations. The Episode 4 version, the Episode 5 version and Anakin's version from Episode 3. I have both Return of the Jedi Luke saber designs, the "hero" version and the one he used for combat scenes in the film. I've got Obiwans episode 1 and episode 3/4 hilts. It's quite the hobby for me.
Same here those were some of the best saber props in my opinion, too thick now, I'm keeping my eye on this company youtube.com/@stuntsaberuniversity4942?si=gb5mxwoZvcQmsjuY
Anakin's lightsaber has always been my favorite. I just think it has the coolest-looking handle. It's a shame that Luke ends up losing it along with his hand, to the lightsaber's original owner no less.
+GraemexIrwinator No, because that's what he originally called it. When you have a name for something, and suddenly it changes, it's very hard to call it by its new name. Especially if that something is your own creation. Sure it's been a long time, but I think it will always be a laser sword to him.
GraemexIrwinator Don't worry about it. It's not that really common knowledge that Lucas originally called it a laser sword. In fact, it was only ever called a laser sword once in the movies, that one time being when Anakin finds out Qui-Gon is a Jedi.
I die a little when he says "All I gotta do is get rid of this one" when he points to Lukes lightsaber. It's like he doesn't even give a shit by this film.
Cool vid. I love the montage of action scenes with lightsabers and blasters set to the Battle in the Snow track from the Empire Strikes Back soundtrack. I understand the need to fight sometimes. But people like yoda are made out to be so strong in the force, that they wouldnt even need a lightsaber to fight. Having him to flips and jumps weilding that short lightsaber was just made to stimulate the audience and completely killed his character. The emperor himself wasnt seen with a lightsaber in the original because he stated that "It was a silly jedi tool". They should have made yoda primarily a force wielder.
