    I’m super enjoying using this lens. We are currently on an Alaska cruise and it’s been fantastic to have. One lens that can do just about everything is awesome.

    I got it on a Canon 80D and it is possibly the best buy I have ever made. The versatility is unmatched.

    Have a Tamron for my Nikon. Love it. Gives me versitility with one lens. My Nikkor primary lens gives better pics 100-200, but the Tamron allows one lens 50mm to tele. No complaints from my eyes, or my back with carrying my bag.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  Год назад +1

      thats exactly why i love this lens. 18-400 gives me all the wide and tele that i would want for almost all occasions (outside of vlogging)

    Gladded for making this video, I just need it right on the time.
    Please have a focus test, if possible, thank you so much

      focus was fine, maybe a little slower that some other lenses, but im thinking that may have to do with the adapter. But we have a second video on this lens on the channel.

    I just picked up this lens used and refurbished on Adroma for about $575. I couldn't afford not to buy it. I live in Norther Minnesota and and I do nature photography and video. Thank you for the review. It really cemented my confidence in this purchase. Great work by the way!!

    I agree 100%. One lens to rule them all. A lot of reviewer understand the merit of this thing.
    They are so used to high quality primes or f2.8 zooms that anything less than 2.8 is trash for them.
    But from the perspective of traveller or casual photography, this lens is practically perfect.
    Yes it is not the sharpest. Not the brightest too. But it's fine. It does exactly what we want from it. Being a versatile do it all lens. Plus editing softwares exist.

    Я пробывал этот объектив на 5dm4, и на нем 3.5-5.6 диафрагма получается. Если делать кроп кадра, чтобы убрать виньетирование (тамрон этот не покрывает полный кадр) то получается где-то 25-500мм. ))

    Thanks for the great review! Considering this lens for travel with my Nikon D3300, but saw some stuttering in your videos. Was that due to the lens or the software?

      All depends what you saw. Maybe some time code so I can check it out.

    Grag, I agree, it's a nice and quite versatile travel lense. However, I think I can make quite similar pictures with my S23 Ultra. The question is always, what is good enough for you, both in terms of quality and practicality.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for sharing. but to be honest you cant get anywhere near the same quality from a cell phone.

      @@gregtoope For sure, but probably not so far away with that lense. Which might a good lense for your use case but still is a compromise concerning the quality.

    Hi, I'd like to replace my setup (panasonic g9+ 14-140 and panasonic s5ii with 60-600) with the 18-400 with the canon r7 (maybe + osmo pocket 3 for wideangle and better vlog) but I still have doubts. Undoubtedly it would be much more convenient to carry and less expensive but I almost exclusively do vlog videos in search of animals, in your opinion is the autofocus good enough in videos and is it silent? also is handheld stabilization at 400mm good? Thank you

      @@gregtoope This video is perfect for the info I needed. Obviously most people with a “newer” camera tend to get newer lenses. I’ve been using my moms Canon 28-200mm, non IS, 15 year old lens. It works, and I’ve gotten some great shots with it. But believe it or not, it is not a supported lens in Lightroom, so I don’t benefit from the Lens Correction. Also, my R10 has no IBS, so it’s shaky without a tripod.
      I’ve also been kicking around the “cousin” to this lens, the Tamron 16-300, but the 18-400mm is appealing for me, specifically for the landscape and nature photography. 😁

    Thinking of moving up to R7 from a Rebel using this lens. Any compatibility issues with the EF/RF adapter? AF issues?

    • @Hhop1620
      @Hhop1620 7 месяцев назад

      I have been using the Tamron 18-400 with my Rebel T2i and about 2 weeks ago upgraded to the EOS R7. The adapter works well. However, I am having difficulty with the autofocus when my Tamron 18-400 is mounted. And I have learned that is a common problem with non-Canon lenses. I wish I had known that. Since posting this 2 months ago, have you purchased the R7? If so, what is your experience?

  • @toddfancher7400

    Do you need an adapter to use the Tamron 18-400mm on the Canon R7? I have the lens for my Nikon D7500 and D500 and love it but tired of the crazy cost of the Nikon mirrorless bodies.

    • @JoJo-jl2lz

    Have you or any of the viewers had problems with the autofocus with the R7 and the Tamron 18-400? I recently purchased the R7 and am having difficulty with the autofocus. And have learned that is a common and known problem with third party lenses. I wish I had known that before purchasing the camera.

      @@knofi7052 thanks. I later discovered that was a thing that could be done. The camera shop where I purchased my camera recently and the lens a year or more ago, upgraded the firmware and I am very happy with the performance now.
