      How do you like it- thinking of getting it. Would you have gotten a different one? Clearly the Nikon 200-500 is much better, but also much more expensive.

    I have my copy of this lens on a Nikon D5600. It would have to be one of THE most versatile lenses on the market. The lens is made for APS-C cameras not Full Frame. So for focal lengths of 27-600mm FF equivalent on a smallish camera (D5600) I think it is an unbeatable general purpose lens. I never take the lens off the camera so no dust on the sensor and can basically take any photo I want with regard to good photographic technique, tripods included. So I use this setup as a point and shoot with amazing optical crop thereby being able to get a full 24MP shots. Cheers

    Thanks for the review. I just purchased a D500. I have an 18-55 AF DX and a 55-200 AF DX from an earlier DSLR purchase and am looking into a (tele)zoom lens for wildlife photography. The Nikkor 200-500 is on the wishlist but a little steep in price..... The Tamron looks like a nice alternative (and covers the focal lengths of the two other lenses)

    • @verhagena
      @verhagena 3 года назад +1

      Check also the Nikon 300 pf vr, i got that one instead of the 200-500, way to heavy and the 300mm is around the 450mm on the D500.

    • @Audimann
      @Audimann 3 года назад +1

      The focal lenght is there but image quality will not be stellar. Using super zooms on a great camera as the D500 is bit of a waste. I suggest you look at second hand premium lenses if retail prices are to high. Instead of the 18-55 get the 17-55 second hand. The 17-55 will let your D500 shine!

    • @alexyphotoman9716
      @alexyphotoman9716 3 года назад +1

      I have a D500 and have been using this lens with it for over 2 years. I have had no issues with the image quality and as Photography Enthusiast said, it is a superb lens for travelling about. I also carry a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 (wish I'd bought the 35mm!) for use in low light conditions, but rarely need it - the Tamron does it all. I have enlarged and printed some images up to 13x19 inches and they are fine. My Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 will take sharper photos, but costs roughly twice as much, so the Tamron is a bargain at it's price of approximately $950 cdn.
      Very good review, by the way - thank you!

    Hi, been enjoying your videos, I’m torn between the tamron 18-400 and the Nikon 50-250z, Want distance over anything. I know the tamron has 400 on paper but is this noticeable over the 250 Nikon would you say? .look forward to another upload?

    • @PhotographyEnthusiast

      The crop factor makes a big difference. Roughly 375 vs 600mm. At 400mm and cropping in post, there is hardly a shot you can't get.

    I have a D780 and i'm getting rather confused by conflicting messages regarding this lens. One claims it can be used without issues and the next claims the counter. Even the Tamron official website claims it is ready for that camera. I really could use help in this one, seems like a amazing lens but if it can't be on my camera it will be pointless.
    If it isn't meant for the D780, can you tell me please what other lenses may be excellent lens options are out there for a similar prize tag or less and for the zoom level roughly similar as well. I am new to full frame and really would appreciate the help (previously I owned a D5200)

    • @PhotographyEnthusiast
      @PhotographyEnthusiast  3 года назад +1

      The 780 is full frame and this is a crop lens. Although I suspect it will work, I also suspect that the images will not be full MP, possibly reduced by about 50%. I know the 18-400 is very tempting, I wouldn't buy it for a FX camera.

    Is there any alternative to Tamron 18-400? I have a Canon EOS M200 and I would like to buy a fairly universal lens with as large a zoom as possible for this price Tamron 18-400.

    • @PhotographyEnthusiast
      @PhotographyEnthusiast  2 года назад

      There is not as versatile alternative. The zoom range of this lens is amazing and although it is not as sharp as far more expensive/narrower zoom range, this is more than made up for by the flexibility. If you don't like it, they hold their value really well.

    when shooting with this 18 400 lens are you always in manual mode oranother mode

    • @PhotographyEnthusiast
      @PhotographyEnthusiast  3 года назад +2

      Only occasionally in manual, mostly auto focus. The auto is very good and I only use manual where the light is very poor and it can't lock or something like polished drinking glasses where the auto focus can't get a fix.

      In my view very good. It is very flexible with 18-400 and for me, is good for many situations, a good all rounder. But, sometimes you do need a prime and/or lower F stop as the light worsens. So, you could manage with just this lens but a couple of others will give you more flexability.

      I would agree with this. If you have a crop sensor camera, I'd suggest the 35mm rather than the 50mm, but that is personal preference.
