Nice video Jett. Nothing wrong with surprising guests with a camera in the fridge. Makes for a great conversation piece lol.
Ahaha love this 🫶
Nice review! I have the Sony a6700 and I use it for all RUclips production. I live in Hong Kong and do record in higher temperatures. So far, it has not overheated… also have not had any of the glitches you mentioned. So yes, I am happy customer.
Wicked. Ah glad you haven’t had any issues. Maybe mine is a dodgy one. I think I’m going to contact Sony about it.
@@jettreelsHope it works out. Just to clarify. I record 4k24 in 10bit 4:2:2 and no longer than 30 min. Flip screen open.
@@jettreelsHave you done a reset back to factory settings? Maybe that would solve it?
What a great informative video thank you! Also- are you using the regular mic from the camera or an added one? Audio sounds great and crisp. Thank you!
Very nice review!
Thank you! 🤩
Great vid thanks! Subbed.
Thank you! 🙏
Great review Dude! Love the colors. That card error is just crazy to me. you even got an expensive 90v Prograde card. Imagining getting that error during work makes my blood boil.
I got the a7iii, i have been thinking about getting the a6700 first and later sell the a7iii for the fx30. What i really want is a fx3 or a7siii, but I know i will never be able to afford it. The a7iv is incredible but the Fx30 gives me the same capabilities for video for a lower price, even if worse in low light. From a business point of view the fullframe has been felling expensive. The cheaper aps-c lens attracts me a LOT. The small and light form factor makes me want to actually use the camera for fun. The advances in cameras have been amazing, makes quality affordable. it's a great time to be a content creator nowadays.
Ahh I know right!?! It’s really bad. It also does it when I put a v60 in. So it’s not the card.
So funny I’m exactly the same! My dream camera is the fx3. It’s going to be interesting to see if Sony brings out an fx3 ii or fx4. Thank you for your kind words about the vid! 🫶
My brother is thinking about selling his A7IV and getting an fx30. I said he should do it since he rarely needs to shoot photos. He's all video.
Yeah the lenses are why I chose APSC, I refuse to pay 2,000 for a single lens. Even if I could afford it it's crazy.
I'm a little late but regarding the creators app, I remember having a bunch of issues with disconnecting too, that seemed to have been entirely resolved by just turning off bluetooth on my phone. Might be worth a shot, I know it doesn't excuse the issue, like you said, it should just *work*, the disconnecting hasn't come back since. Other than that, agree with a lot of your points, in spite of the flaws, I love this camera!! My friends are always underwhelmed when I bring it on trips because it look so tiny lol, then I come back with videos and photos and they're like, "you shot these with THAT thing??" 💀
Wow really? I’ll give this a go and let you know! Aha I bet! I always try and beef mine out when I go on shoots just so the client doesn’t have any doubts. 😂 not had any complaints yet! Thanks for the tip!
Nice one Jett. I went from an A6400 to A6700 and love it too.
Wicked! 💪
Right! It’s NIGHT AND DAY!
Is it worth it? I have a6400 now but the 6700 looks so tempting
@@visualjermm7879same. I could buy an a6700 next month or wait two months MORE in order to can afford an fx30. The lack of ibis on the a6400 is getting me crazy
@@alvarovids1915 I’m with you the lack of ibis is kinda what kills the 6400 for me and the tilt screen isn’t my favorite lol. I could honestly get either camera in a month as well but I guess I would have to choose if I want more video stuff or a hybrid camera but the fx30 looks perfect
Thanks for the review. I’m about to go to Iceland this summer (it’s cold there right?) and I want a good all around compact camera that shoots great video.
Amazing! I loved Iceland. I went in January so it was about -16c 🥶 In the summer I think it can get to around 20c but not sure how often. I guess it depends on what you shoot.⚡️
In my opinion, it is a fantastic camera. Unbelievable bang for buck value. Absolutely love this thing.
I recommend getting an external charger for it. Charging via usb takes far too long.
It’s damn good! Yes I have a few batteries with a charging dock. I want to plug my A6700 into a power bank and see if I can record at the same time. Then I’d have a lot of battery. Great for Timelapse’s and stuff like that. 🤙
Could you tilt it the opposite way to still face you ? I got a ZV -E10 abs that’s how I do it ? It’s not a 360 though but it works for me .
Yeah it’s actually fine I was just nitpicking😂
Thanks for your honest real life review. I’m thinking about getting one of these for my wildlife photography. How long does it have to be on before it overheats? Is it just in video shooting that this happens? Thanks.
Hey! Thanks! I believe it’s only in video but I’ve made a couple of overheating videos on my channel. You might find them useful!
Buy the Ulanzi cooler 2nd gen. It doesn't fall off the back like the 1st gen cooler. I use the Ulanzi cooler 1st gen, and it does fall off often, so I use a rubber band to keep it on. The cooling works like a charm tho
Yes I’ll grab the newer one cheers 🍻
I use a A6700 mainly for photography, and in low-light, even with the focusing aid, the camera hunts, I am using the Sony 18-200 lens, the system sometimes hunts, ie it can't focus on a subject even when it is standing still. Everything else is really good, phtos and videos are crystal clear.
It might be doing that because of the lens maybe? 🤔
If you get the fan, make sure you get the version 2 with the spring mount system
Yes I will! Thanks 🙏
Amazing video dude Which computer & programme do you use for a6700 footage???
I use a PC but might be switching to Mac OS. For editing I use Premiere Pro. 💪
As far as the SD card issue, I had the same thing on other Sony cameras when using Lexar V90, but I started using ProGrade and haven't seen it since.
It’s so odd. 🤯
I wonder if it's less prone to overheating if you record in 4:2:0, 8bit instead of 4:2:2, 10 bit
I'm still on the A6300 the overheating champ... Use an external battery pack and pull the monitor away from the body. No more overheating. Running 4k for long period in a warm environment isn't something I generally do but if I did I could work around the overheat issue even on the 6300. Happy to trade you even for camera bodies.
You need to update and upgrade
@@DMRCapitalHill The pictures and video I capture look no better with an A6700 than my old A6300. Wasting money I will leave to RUclipsrs.
Got followin from me from here and Tiktok. Also bought this camera and listening. For overheating I did bought the ulanzi cooler, but even it is new version I would like it if would stay better
Awesome thanks! The newer version of the fan definitely says on the camera better. Do you find it falls off?
I was expecting it to be a little bit of study there. I have to be careful so it will stay.
hey! can I get this camera as a beginner and learn my way around cameras in general? and what’s the ambient temperature in the place you live or while the camera overheats? it usually goes like 40 C in Indian summers.
Do you recommended buying with the kit lens for $1700 or the body and lens separately. Mostly for vlogging and some photography. If so, which lens?
Ooo well the kit lens is actually really good for vlogging. It would definitely get you started! 🙌
Please update with a quick review of the Ulanzi fan (or other?) as to overheating.. Also what bit rate and frame rate do you normally use?
Will do! I shoot 10 bit. There’s a video on my channel about my camera settings 🫶
I was sold on getting the A6700 for a few months, that was the plan. Then I started hearing more and more about the overheating issues. So I ended up going with a FX30. Sometimes I question if I should have just went with the A6700, but I've been happy with the FX30 in the short time I've had it.
I guess it depends if you do photography as well as video. I was looking at the FX30 for ages but I love photography and saw that I could get the same video quality as the FX30 and also get amazing photos. Once I stick a fan on this thing it’s pretty much going to be a powerhouse 😂
What camera do you have now?
@@jettreels I have a A6000 that I use for taking occasional photos, and a ZV-E10 for video. I wanted to update a bit, and my main interest these days is video. I'm also fairly invested in APS-C lenses, so I didn't want to make the jump to full frame yet. I think the Ulanzi fan will be a good solution, and I look forward to seeing your results with it.
I have just sold my FF Sony gear so have some funds, I am actually doing that same debate but planning on buying two cameras, so debating between 2 A6700s or 1 A6700 and 1 FX30. I am a hybrid shooter, we just retired and are starting to do traveling and shooting around the neighborhood, so as my wife is getting more interested now so I am thinking of getting 2 of the same which would make it easy for us to share!
@@GuitarRJP I just got a A6700 the other day, and I'm very impressed with it. I think if you plan to record for long periods, or shoot often at higher frame rates, the FX30 is wonderful. That said, I really do neither. The A6700 (so far at least) seems to be the more versatile camera. I like the form factor, battery life, video and photo capabilities, EVF, and the new AI focusing and re framing stuff. I'm pretty sold on the A6700 if you can't tell! If the A6700 keeps performing well, and I don't run into overheating issues during normal use, I might get rid of the FX30 and put it into lenses or something!
@@jettreels but do you need an external mic if you do use the fan?
I went from the 6500 to the 6700, so it's been a big step up for me. I agree with your thoughts on the grip but adding the smallrig base plate makes it that much better! Highly recommend it.
Ever since updating the camera firmware I haven’t experienced overheating, try sticking with Sony batteries over third party.
I also use a v90 angelbird that gives me incredible clarity in the footage, no issues with shutter. Pairing this up with the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 is an absolute game changer.
Great review as always, keep it up!
Amazing! Thanks I’ll check those things out. Yeah the glitching is odd. Other than what I mentioned in the video it’s been a solid camera 📸
Is the overheating a retirement issue only when shooting long videos or in general? I'm making car reels and 90% of my clips are at most 10 seconds long.
You’ll be fine. Yeah only long shooting in my experience 💪
Look at the views on this man . 🤘doing well
🫶
they have a new an updated version of the fan. works a bit better than the first version
Yes I’ll grab that one! Cheers!
What's the sweet spot / max for iso on the a6700 without introducing noise ?... I would use something like the sigma or Tamron 1.4
Depends what your picture profile setting is. I’ve made a settings video on my channel. And one about how to get good exposure with the least amount of noise.
If you’re shooting S-log 3 then the base ISO is 800. But check those videos out because you’ll find them quite useful. 🫶⚡️
Do u recommend this camera for the goal of 30mins short films , great video 🔥🔥
I think so 🙌
stumbled upon you. dope content and useful advice! def subscribed
Legend thank you 🙏
as soon as I buy the a6700 will I find myself with the same type of settings interface as you or should I update it first? to have 4k at 30/60 fps, when it arrives and I set the first settings, should I set it to "Italy" or "American"? and if I bought a FF landscape lens for this a6700, would I also have to buy an adapter?
Okay so first thing I would do is update the camera. Then check out my camera setting video on my channel. Thousands of people have found it really helpful. Any lens that is Sony E-Mount will fit this camera. If you buy a FF lens then you 1.5x the focal length. So for example the 16mm FF lens on Apsc is 24mm. I would set it to the country you are in. 💪
@@jettreels Thank you! ...for example, for landscape: the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Vario Tessar T* compatible without an adapter? or do you recommend another lens?
Hello, Jett! The viltrox 27mm 1.2 PRO has been released. I wanted to know if using the Sigma 30mm 1.4 with the 6700 would be enough.
Ooo it depends if it’s an APSC lens. Remember if it’s not then factor that into the focal length. 27mm x1.5. Is it your first lens?
Get the Tilta Lightweight Kit (Cage+Handle+Cooling) for the a6700, instead of some janky stick-on fan. It's a proper solution.
Just looked at this and I must say it is pretty cool 😎
I was looking for a B-cam for my A7iv and the A6700 was the top of my list, but a lot of reviewers commented about the overheating. So I decided to test it for myself. I set up the A6700 at 4K30 (10bit 4:2:2) with the screen out with high temp shutoff on in a room at 28C (simulating a warm room in summer here) it overheated and shut down after 1hr 11min. The other camera in the same price and spec range was the Fuji X-S20, in the same conditions recorded for 2hr 20min till the battery died (it gave a high temp warning but never overheated). Of interest the A7iv overheated and shut down after 1hr 20min, not a whole lot better than the A6700.
I did intend on using this for recording 4K30 a bit over an hour and without external cooling the A6700 is uncomfortably close to overheating. I know I could just get the FX30 but I also wanted a backup photo camera. So I ended up going with the X-S20.
The A6700 is a great camera but I am enjoying using the X-S20, either could be a better fit depending on your requirements.
Wow this is super interesting. I haven’t heard much about the a7iv overheating. It’s interesting that it’s similar to the a6700.
I don’t know much about the X-s20 but sounds like you found the right camera 🙌
I don’t think I’ll be shooting for a straight 1 hour though !! So it’s fine with me .
Love your channel! Subbed! You’re selling me on the a6700. Do you think it’s worth going for the fx30 over this?
I guess it depends on what you want to do. The a6700 allows you to take really good photos as well as video. I’m doing a video about a fan accessory to stop it from overheating 🥵
@@jettreels fair. My take is I’ll grab the cheaper camera that’s more mobile and compact and use it for my needs. If it doesn’t workout after a few months I can sell or trade up for something that will work.
Thinking 18-105 f4 as the everyday carry lens and a 23 1.8 for lowlight and evening ?
Hi,
Have you tried updating the camera to the latest firmware? I believe it solves the over heating issue? Im thinking of buying the camera, thanks.
Yes it’s all up to date!
@@jettreelsAt what firmware version?
I’ve had the a6700 for about 4 months, and for me it’s almost perfect. I shoot mainly birds, so my ‘negatives’ might not be an issue for others. Its EVF, whilst very clear, is too small. Its stabilisation is only borderline effective (at least compared to my previous OM-1 and current G9 II). Lastly, it could do with at least 20 fps. If I had to choose just one of these to be improved, it’d be the stabilisation. I’m not getting a lot of out of focus images due to the stabilisation, but framing when using a telephoto lens can be a real pain.
I’ve experienced no cliches at all.
I like to shoot race cars, its similar to birds, because it’s very fast, so I need to ask: do you still use the evf or the screen? Do you regret no buying an a7 because of the evf?
I don’t regret buying the a6700 at all and use the EVF all the time. I’ve had a lot of success pairing it with the superb Sigma 500mm f5.6.
on the fence about getting the a6700 might just get the a7cii and one FF prime and use all my apsc lenses for video as it has a crop in 60p, the 4k 120 is not interesting with that mega crop.
I was on the fence about this for a while, however I don't regret any of it. I have had no issues with this camera. Unbelievable quality.
The pros of this camera SMOTHER the cons of this camera.
I have never had an issue with overheating.
Yeah I guess it depends whether you want full frame or Apsc. Both are great 👍
I just tried 4K@120fps on the a6700 with my brand new Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 at 10mm. Makes a lot more sense when using an angular, even when the depth of field changes a bit.
Any thoughts on the a6700 vs a7c? The only thing stopping me from getting this camera is fomo from not going FF. I understand the price/size difference in lenses, but lowlight photo/video is big for me.
It’s an interesting one. The a7c is full frame but in but not sure if it shoot 4k 60 or 120. Also I think it’s 8 BIT but not sure. 🤔
Maybe consider A7CII but if you're not really doing anything really professionally consider A7C its a bit older but gets the job done its a bit better video camera than its brother A7III, talking about a6700 its a better video camera (new features, ai af, 10bit, color science) BUT bare in mind its a aps-c sensor so not the best in low light or that bokeh you're looking for from a full frame also 1.8 aperature isn't exactly 1.8 its a bit higher like 2.2 or 2.8 somewhere its a aps-c which everything is cut down a bit by frame size, bokeh, aperature, iso performance and light sensitivity
(IM NOT SAYING IM ALL CORRECT, SO CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG IM JUST SHARING MY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE)
A6700
- APS-C with AI Autofocus, 10 bit 4:2:2
- Good lowlight not until 6400iso more best at 3200iso range
- Great to use professionally dont get me wrong but it comes with limitations
A7CII
- Full frame, AI Autofocus, 10bit 4:2:2
- Same as A7IV but with AI AF
- Great lowlight until 6400iso cause full frame allows more light
- Great to use professionally
A7C
- Its like A7III but better in video, just not physical features which later improved on A7CII
- Decent Autofocus won't disappoint
- Full frame with 8 bit 4:2:0 colors
- Perfect for hobbyist, youtuber or the average likes even professionally just expect struggles grading a 8bit camera as it falls apart quicker than 10bit
@@LuwiMartin one other thing about the A7CII that i rarely see mentioned is it doesn't have a mechanical shutter, this was the one thing that tipped the scales to the 6700 for me. I feel like if I'm spending A7CII money and doing photos I'd expect to have a mechanical shutter.
@@garlic_roast Oh yeah certainly even I forgot to mention it.
It doesn't - 4k30; if you want 4k 60 you need A7Cii (shoots 4k 60 with a APS-C crop)@@jettreels
does the single card slot and terrible rolling shutter affects you?
Single card slot doesn’t affect me and the rolling shutter isn’t that bad so no 👍
Is there a 4k 4:2:0 option? if yes have you tested the overheating in this bitrate?
I don’t think so. I think you can on the a6600 📸
Yes, there is a 4k 4:2:0 option
@@RobertWKart have you tried it?
I’m thinking of getting the a6700 as a 3rd cam for weddings and some personal/travel use.I really like having a smaller camera.
You mentioned a f2.8 for low light? Do you have a specific recommendation?
No just f2.8 or lower I reckon ⚡️
@@jettreels aight thank you!
The V90 bug never occur to me. I use Sandisk v90 128gb though.
It’s just so weird 🤯😂
Yes but the fan
I know this camera is a beast, but if im mainly doing vlog and adventure vids would the DJI osmo pocket 3 be better than this?
Oooo this is a great comment! I actually don't know. The new Osmo Pocket is also a beast! I'd say probably but I cant say for sure.
I have both. Osmo is real nice and convenient but it doesn’t give you that pristine image quality in photos and videos. Osmo can be used for quick photos and videos if you’re going to theme parks and such. However, if you want a great photo to put in your portfolio, you’re not going to get that result unless you use an actual camera.
you have the pocket 3? I saw some videos and the footage looks really nice. some ppl even compared it to the sony zve1. I mainly going to use it for video footage. Do u think the pocket 3 is good for that?@@acortes9472
What lens did you use ??
16mm f1.4 ⚡️
What is better a7c1 or a6700 ?
Depends what your after. A6700 is newer but the a7c is full frame. Which might not be what you’re after. 🙌
What are the base ISO for the 6700🧐
Same as the fx30
800 is the base. It doesn’t actually have a second base however there is a noise drop going from ISO 2000 to ISO 2500.🙌
a6700 or zve1 i do both video and photo what to buy bro
Well the zve1 is full frame! Which often means the lenses are more expensive. Both amazing, I’d watch some comparison videos 📸
@@jettreels I watched many videos but I I’m not able to choose
can you please suggest me one between these two
@@mehere07 if you are a hybrid shooter (both photo and video) . 6700 for sure.
