What a Layover is REALLY like in Charlotte Douglas International Airport - CLT TOUR

- Alright everyone, take a breath and get ready to run! Charlotte Douglas Airport is HUGE!
Just kidding, it's very easy to navigate yourself though this massive airport and they do a great job of giving you an idea how much farther you have to go.
If you are planning to have a layover in this airport, plan to give yourself at least an hour / hour and a half to navigate your way to your connecting gate! This International Airport has multiple terminals that all connect. You won't need to take a train or anything, but that means you will have to walk / moving escalator to your next gate. And this particular trip took me a half hour to get to my next gate.
This airport is one of my favorite airports I've been to! I think it's a combination of the rocking chairs, the good service, and the modernly easy-to-navigate design of the airport.
LOCATION
It will take you about 20-30 minutes to get into Charlotte depending which part you are going to.
Food Highlights...
Honestly, you could spend the whole day in this airport eating! They have a little bit of everything from bar food to bbq to sushi! For us coffee lovers, they have Starbucks and a number of other local coffee shop kind of cafes.
Shopping...
You could spend all day shopping here as well, it's basically a mall!
General Feel...
CLT International Airport somehow partners a massively spacious experience with the homey kind feel you can only find in the South. Even though people are traveling from gate to gate (since this is a major transfer hub), you never really feel rushed. They have plenty of signs saying just how long it will take you to get to where you are trying to go which I think really helps dissipate passengers' travel stress. knock on wood I have never missed a flight connecting in this airport.
Restrooms...
There's plenty of restrooms and the stalls have a lot of room to bring your bags in with you.
Overall, Charlotte Douglas International Airport has a great reputation for a reason! They know how stressful traveling can be sometimes and they do an amazing job of helping to put your mind at ease!
Hope you enjoy your trip!

I love Charlotte's airport it's my absolute favorite!
It's the rocking chairs for me 😆
My wife and I will fly into CLT for the first time from BWI or Dulles in October!!! Staying for a week. Catching a Charlotte FC soccer game, a NASCAR race, and some other things while we are there!!
I've ALWAYS wanted to go for a Nascar Race!!! I need to put it on my to do list sooner than later!
@@travelandledger Most definitely!! Its a very family friendly environment now than what it used to be. If you are near the Queen City....The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway or the Roval race at Charlotte are very popular races.
What a great video of our airport! Living in Charlotte, I am fortunate that I don't have to deal with connections. And you are absolutely correct. It's quite a haul from the far end of concourse E to the far end of concourses B and C. Over the past several years, the renovations have truly made it a beautiful airport, and it's getting nicer with the ongoing renovations.
Thanks!!! Yes I love it there! Sometimes I take a longer layover just to hang out for a bit on those rocking chairs 😅
Nice vlog. Cant wait to see more logs from you . absolutely subscribing.
Thanks so much! I have many more coming 🫶
That is a massive airport! =)
Massiveeeee 😱
I had fun exploring that airport during layover (although my transfer gates were practically next to each other lol)
Ooohhhh???? You are lucky! 😂
Thank you very much for the motivation 😊 i'll be there v soon and fly to nashville
Cool! It's really pretty!
Nashville is on my to do list one of these days!
@@travelandledger thank you 😊
@@travelandledger thats great :) i hope i will find everything bc this is my first time flying 😅 starting here in Frankfurt germany
Indeed, I flew out of Charlotte to Birmingham two weeks ago, my departure gate changed 5 times in one hour! As you say, getting from one terminal to another can take 30+ minutes. I had to actually run with my carry-on bags to make it to the final gate and I'm 70!
5 Times!?!?!? That's crazyyyyy! Glad you made your flight!
Chicago and Los Angeles can both be a much longer walk depending what gates or airlines u might need to transfer to.
Thanks for the heads up!
As someone who is a Brit who is hopeful travelling to charlotte (volcanic eruption dependant at the moment) I have heard and seen so many comments about this airport. Your video, even though posted a year ago, has been a source of info for me.
Thank you again a fellow traveller
AMAZING to know I reached you! I hope it helped! They are very efficient there.. it's just huge! But, I think the timing listed everywhere helps w anxiety for sure! Safe travels and happy holidays!!!!!
@@travelandledger I can’t see any videos of the departure and checkin before tsa. Would you say it’s easy to manage and there are staff around for advice and help? I have a nine hour layover so I need to recheck my bags
@@Doodledoo929 hours is about 4 times more the absolute maximum time you’d need to make it
@@WavyKid13 haha it took me 45 mins from off the plane to recheck my bags to clear security to my gate.
More than enough
Your video caught a quick glimpse of what CLT is really known for ….. “moving sidewalks that don’t move”.
haha 😂
I was watching this because we are flying in from Chattanooga and will have a 52 min layover if all goes right. Makes me nervous. Gotta get that second flight to Denver.
Usually if your connection if the same airline it leaves from the same area as you land in 👍
@@travelandledger ok, that’s good to know!
Well the start of the video isnt true. The reason for you having to deboard the plane via airstairs is because you came in on a very small plane that was most likely from a closer destination.
Yeah I was coming in from Ohio it was a smaller plane .. was fun to deboard like that tho 😆
The gate connectors are very far... but for me it's ok and easy to find the gate number... by the way, new friend here.. hope to see you in my channel
Definitely!!!
Is everything walkable? Like you don’t have to take a bus or indoor train thing to your gate?
Yeah all walkable 👍
There's no trams etc
I am arriving from London to CLT and transferring to Roanoke, Do I need to go through customs? I'll be arriving at gate D5 but I'm not sure where to go -Sorry it's a year old now ! Friendly video :-)
Yes you will need to go thru customs and i believe you need to retrieve your bag and recheck it to go from clt to roanoke...
I found this article that may help explain it better for you...
www.washingtonpost.com/travel/tips/connecting-flight-international-to-domestic/#
Hello I have a 45 minute layover for an international flight we land at 8:20am and take off is at 9:05am. Is this enough time to make my connection flight?
I'm not sure that's cutting it close but maybe your connection will be around the same gate as you land 🤷🏻♀️
First time flier with layovers. I purchased tickets online and don't see connection location. Will it say where I go on ticket where i check in at original airport?
It states flight number, but not what concourse it's on
Yeah they are constantly changing so you won't know until you land at your layover airport. So at your layover location just look at the main board that lists all the flights - they are all over the place - to see where your second flight's gate is. Make sure you double check the flight number because sometimes there are more than one flights leaving to the same location. Hope that helps! 😃
When you get to the connecting airport you'll see screens that have the flights. Look for your next flight number and city and it will tell you. Also the airline app itself usually tell you what gate your next flight is at when you land at the airport. It's very easy. Plus you can always ask airline employees for help. They're usually always very helpful
@@briancrawford69 I had lots of practice coming back from Florida. Daytona Beach, Charlotte, NC, Philadelphia. PA, Chicago, IL, Minneapolis, MN. Glad I parked at MN airport and no one had to wait for me.
i have a 30 min layover in clt... im so worried now
Don't be worried! A lot of times it's the same airline you are transferring to it will be in the same Gate area 👍 But going forward I suggest at least an Hour layover in case you are delayed coming in or you do have to go a long distance to your next gate
i have a flight arriving at 7:22pm and connection at 8:35. is that enough time? i know i will have to hustle and i'm super worried 🥲
That's cutting it close but sometimes you end up arriving early! Plus as you walk it should tell you how long it takes to get to another concourse but hopefully your flight will just be in the same one as you land in 🤞
@@travelandledger thank you! thanks for getting back to me :)
This is also my worries! We got 30mins connecting flight, and I'm very worried
@@jenniferdelacruz737 You should be fine. I made it with no problems! Charlotte's airport is built so you can connect to your gate pretty much immediately.
@@MadiShellthank you
No trams is so stupid
That'd make morre sense
