I am sooooo happy that this film is good. I'm a 50 year old fan of the original Eastman black and white comics, but I love that this is a sweet, intelligent animated film. I will be seeing this in the cinema when it is released in Ireland. Congratulations on being rotten tomato critics now. You deserve it. You two are the only film reviewers I watch. I had to type their 4 names/colors into my phone, and then watch a couple YT videos to refresh my memory, and I am still mixing them up!!! The only 2 that I could kinda differentiate consistently were Leonardo and Donatello: Leonardo (cuz he was biggest and in blue) and Donatello (cuz of the glasses). About 1/2 way through, I noticed that Michaelangelo had braces and had an E.T. shaped head, and that Raphael had the missing tooth. IMHO, they should have picked a different color for Michaelangelo (I suggest pink). He was giving me gay vibes (or at least bi 😉)... the way he interacted with the skateboarding gheko🦎🛹 was kinda sus!!! 🌈😅🤣😂. Maybe I am projecting! The color change would make it easier to tell the 2 apart.
Just saw this movie, even though I'm a grown-up lol, and I really enjoyed this style of animation. Very much recalled the comic book origin of these teen heroes
Thanks Gents. Just saw this today and I couldn't wait to watch your review. I really enjoyed this movie as well. The voice work was excellent and the soundtrack = YES!! I definitely want to see it again... so fun! The animation was very unique. The humans all looked kind of asymmetrical and distorted in a way. I noticed that even the surroundings (cars, buildings, etc.) had that same look/effect. Almost like a cross between Salvador Dali and Picasso (in a way).
Lol Raphael has the rage, mikey is the funny one. I always get Leo and Donny mixed up. But I’m very glad this was good, the original TMNT is so tied to my childhood. I want my daughter to have the same level of love for it that I do ❤

Nice review guys! Excellent summary of the film, Nick. It WAS a heartfelt coming of age story about teens looking for acceptance. I had a blast with it. Radical fun. Nothing snarky or condescending in the themes. Just a good time. Man, I love being a turtle!

two things I'm worried about: Baxter Stockman is *not* "Superfly" himself? in this he just creates Superfly? I saw a review saying that in this, the Turtles learn martial arts through TV? instead of being taught them by Splinter?
The TMNTs learned from a combination of both hands-on training w/Splinter and the videos as a supplement... speaking of supplement, one of the 4 (Raphael?) stole protein powder/bulk-up powder in the beginning. That cracked me up! 💪🏋
Never like Turtles films because they never stay true to the source material. The original origin story is so gritty. A violent revenge tale to kill the man who murdered Splinters master. This is for people unaware of the source material and their children. Or perhaps people with little emotional investment in that founding narrative or genre.
I give this a 5/10. The turtles being dumb teenagers was fun. The flashback with Splinter raising the turtles was great. Beyond that the rest of the movie just fell flat for me and made me wish I was watching the 1990 movie.

The turtles are differentiated by the colours that they wear. Red is raph, orange is mikey, purple is don and blue is leo…
