Ah yes, Marin as Leonardo, Korey as Donatello, and Julian as April O’Neil 😂. Gotta love the dedication to the cosplays.
So does that make Billy as Raphael, Chris as Michelangelo and Gitz as Casey?
more like nightmare lmao
I can concur Julian is April!
I’d see Chris as Raphael him getting angry alot, Michelangelo is more Billy, but Girtz to would be Shredder…
Ice Cube add libbing worked with this character. To a point that I was actually scared for the turtles lol. I was like damn they're just kids. 😂😂😂
My absolute favorite part of the movie was his ad libs! 😂
Man, this has easily becoming the MOST entertaining film review channel, it’s not too serious so it feels chummy and relatable but they don’t pull a punch when the movie has issues (without belaboring the point). VINTAGE AMC/Collider Movie talk vibes from 5 yrs ago. Thank DB!
Korey & Martin been doing this for a long time... From Cable Access television to Spill to Double Toasted... Their history runs deep!
D2 is a great time when they got the full party in the room and they’re all in solid moods
you should’ve seen korey in his spill days though. he was a RIOT with the other guys he was with
This was easily my favorite animated movie in YEARS, and I barely have watched TMNT. There was just so much heart and it was so well paced and told. I feel like other animated films lately have been missing as much heart as this one. Will definitely get the Blu-ray later this year. Go see it if you haven't, amazing film.
😅
This was woke trash. And you don't know any good film cinema. That is all.
It was pretty good and i really enjoyed how they depved into that question of how it must be to be a hero that wont be easily accepted into society protect and live so close to something you can never be.
It’s a fun time, both Spiderverses clear if you haven’t seen those. TMNT was quite nice.
I would like to see you guys do a Retro Review for the original 1990 movie. I don’t care if the reviews are not that high. That movie rocks and is a great adaptation
Agreed not only is it dark in tone, its literally dark in shadows. Brings out the ninja elements and grit thru the cinematography.
Yes, plus...it has the BEST April O'Neil in my opinion.
Judith Hoag. She was fine as hell in that movie!
That was my first introduction and it was scary
I love that movie its so underrated
Also the last project Jim Henson worked on.
This is a full price for me. The spidey verse look, no diggity, ante up, tribe being the musical choices are all 👍
Cube was real dope as superfly. He snuck in an Ice T reference
The old school 90s hip hop choices make me want to see the movie even more.
@@adu1991they even played odb
@@thecunninlynguist omg... I was surprised when those piano keys kicked in. I'm like... "they're really playing ODB in a Ninja Turtles movie? in a KIDS movie?". Vibing hard!
@@thedefinitionisthisante up surprised the hell out of Me. I don't think I've ever heard MOP in a movie...let along a kids/tmnt movie 😂
of course..you think there goign to play todays hip hop with 90s hip hop artist Ice cube? no way would he allow todays trash to be in it.
I do like that they actually look and act like kids. All these years, they always looked like Grown ass Mutant Ninja Turtles rather than teenagers. They definitely should've been helping Splinter pay some bills around that mf'er.
Like Baby boy but with ninja turtles. 😂
Was in the stream so glad to see yalls opinions on the film, I've been a massive fan of every gen since I was baby in the 90s and still am to this day. There are some lil things that made me sideye but I got over it quickly and from the fight choreography, music, likability of the characters, and more I really dug this film. Def a full price to me and like they said in the Crossover movie Turtles forever and the eps of 2012 TMNT where they met the 1987 TMNT Im really excited of the idea of these Mutant Mayhem Turtles interracting with the other Animated variations especially at the end just imagining the other TMNT universes reactions would be hilarious haha
Is it true they made master splinter gay?
@@JacobWilson777has a relationship with Scumbug, who I think is meant to be a female in the film, but it’s still a rat mutant and cockroach mutant falling in love
It's crazy for them to actually be teens in this one. I like that factor
@@JacobWilson777 They didn't. It was apparently a marketing error. In the actual movie, Scumbug is referred to as a "she".
@JacobWilson777 no, Scumbag is female in this movie
I love how you guys wear funny costumes for certain movies ☺️ Just adds to the humor from everybody.
As much a people credited Spider-Verse changing animation deserving so , The Peanuts Movie as well as The Captian Underpants movie should also be part of the conversation.
Good point. I believe Peanuts was a BlueSky production, but the visuals were quite authentic looking in what I've seen.
Absolutely
@@Montesama314 For that movie, they definitely made it a point not to make the animation as "slick" or refined as the standard Pixar/Dreamworks movie. They wanted it to maintain the more crude style of the old holiday specials from the 60s; just translated into 3D. Totally worked too!
April was Black in the original comic. Based on one of the original creator's girlfriend. When the cartoon was created they race swapped her because white characters were the default in all 80s cartoons. Minorities were extremely rare then.
No she wasn't. Don't be duped by that one article you saw on the internet. She was mixed race with a perm hair cut. They didn't race swap her, she was predominantly white.
@@bender6316I’m confused a mixed person is not just a white person, plus April has switched races quite a few times just like catwoman and a few other characters
I don't know if I agree about minorities being rare back then. I'm 47 and I always had characters to attach myself to back then. Bulletproof from C.O.P.s was my role model!
I could probably name dozens off the top of my head.
No absolutely not Korey. In the 90s movie Splinter's a loving and caring father same with the 2012 cartoon and 2003 cartoon. Splinter being a great dad didn't start with this movie, I can understand if you didn't watch the cartoons I mentioned but how are you going to say Splinter from the 1990 movie was just a sensei when he comforts Raphael who's crying or how he emphasizes how all fathers care for their sons.
Saw this over the weekend and as a lifelong TMNT fan across the shows, comics, games and movies, this was an absolute treat, even if I didn't love everything about it.
been a life long fan since the 80's and this was the worst rendition of the turtles.
@@danjones6702 care to elaborate? I've seen the trailers and spoiler reviews and I have no desire to see it.
its as bad as TMNT RISE 💀👻
@@niteriemcfarlane5285 I mean, Rise of the TMNT is secretly the most well put together TMNT cartoon, and the third best overall iteration that falls short of only the original Mirage run of comics and the current IDW run which is the absolute pinnacle of TMNT (honestly, Superfly takes some tips from the best character IDW TMNT conjured up as their own original anti-villain/anti-hero with Old Hob), so I take that as a compliment to Mutant Mayhem tbh.
@@bender6316 its basically not much of an action movie that you would assume from all other turtle movies. its basically a coming of age movie where the turtles want to be regular teens and the premise of the whole movie is about acceptance of people that look different. they only learned ninjitsu from watching youtube videos after fearing humans. april is a highschool student and not a regular reporter. a lot of what made the ninja turtles the ninja turtles they changed.
Martin has become the very thing he sought to destroy.
The montage music was actually Blackstreet's "No digitty". I remember because my jaw dropped to the ground. Movies like this makes me glad I'm in this dimension.
Yo imagine old school Wu-tang tracks + The Shredder and the Foot.
Considering Ice Cube is a west coast Emcee, I'd actually rather have had RZA or Method Man voice SuperFly
Protect Ya Neck better be the track they play when they introduce Shredder + The Foot
@@NeoAndersonChannel1 I think that's what makes it extra disrespectful.
That turtle Martin crushed with that rock must’ve been possessing that Leonardo mask, because he was crushing Martin’s eyes together lol
I liked the movie but did y’all pay close attention to it?
1. They 100% rebelled against Splinter and did what he told them not to do.
2. They did say Cowabunga
3.This is nowhere near the darkest depiction of the Turtles this could of been on Nickelodeon. The original TMNT movie is way edgier.
1. They didn't really do it just because they just wanted to. They all had different thoughts going on in their heads, since they never really ventured out nearly as far until near the end. It's not for being rebellious sake. They couldn't really help it.
2. Fine, but that was about ONCE, and by the end, and the point wasn't about ust cowabunga, it was about dated kid dialogue. That was not there throughout most of the movie. They referenced things in modern day, but they very quickly moved on to the next thing.
3. This is a darker interpretation in the movies. Sure, maybe the tone is more Nickelodeon, but the things that happen is closer to the darker things that happen outside of that. I don't even know how much, if anything, the original movie happened to get away with, I haven't really seen it in awhile, but it never was that deep, and it sounds like the closest thing to edgy is that Raphael almost died, (okay). Nobody really died though, which this movie keeps alluding to deaths that have happened, and Double Toasted themselves already said Splinter (lol) might have actually killed somebody in the background. I think it's safe to say the original movie wouldn't have had the budget to even have that tiny detail.
@@thefirstbourne149 The 1990 movie showed the deaths of Hamato Yoshi & Tang Shen. Casey Jones also murders Shredder in cold blood using a trash compactor before the sequel retconned it. Raph gets beaten down to a coma. Splinter is helplessly chained up and punched by Shredder. Tatsu mercilessly beats a teenager. Kids are shown drinking, smoking, & gambling. The word "damn" is repeatedly uttered.
Martin looks more like blank man 😂😂😂
She was great in the bear, so I knew she'd be great as April lol
I guess you guys never watched the 2012 TMNT show, which portrays the turtles as teens including April, Casey and Karai. Give that show a watch, also Mutant Mayhem is amazing.
Its just the idea of teens voicing them much like spiderman being played by an actual kid.
I was thinking about that one too when they said April is a different take. She's already been a teenager and she's already had a race swap in Rise. And I love it!!
Martin’s Leo band was hilarious 😂 it look like it hurts
I think yall need to watch the 1990 and 07 movie again for a classic re-watch to get a remembrance because to me, the 1990 had heart and touching moments
There actually was one cowabunga in the movie. Mikey said it when they were fighting Super Duper Fly.
This movie far exceeded my expectations. It was so thoughtful, well written and well paced .
This film was a nice blend of different TMNT eras. From the original comics to the 80s show to the 2003 series. It felt like a great pastiche of all those iterations. The turtles feel like actual teenaged brothers and their camaraderie and friendship with April is the heartbeat of the film. The plot moves along at a brisk pace with an effective touch that satisfyingly builds to its conclusion in a way that evokes the heart of the movie.
I’m a little disappointed about the separation between Splinter and the Turtles from Shredder in their origin, but I get it. The separation does allow this film to focus on other aspects beyond Shredder and allows them to build up to him later. But I do miss the Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki (Shredder) connection.
I think they have done a very good job of making the Turtles feel like actual teeanagers ever since the released a reboot in 2012.
@@realityshifter3399

5:25 At first korey was supposed to dress up, but great surprise of Martin as leonardo
i am in the minority but i really like the Bay produced TMNT especially their designs. They look like Mutants, but, i love the accessories on each of them which gives their personality. I do give it for this new film, they do look like teenagers.
LOVE, ADORE the animation style incorporated here and they are right in what Spider-Verse introduced or i should say, allow. So many of these animated films prior have that same template and models. Spider-Verse help show that you can be creative because it is animation, all these different styles can be incorporated
I particularoy liked how distinct the Bay turtles were in their designs. One could tell that even their faces were distinct without needing masks.
I just thought making them super-sized kinda took away from their appeal.
We need to start a petition to get Martin to wear the mask at least once a week 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol at Korey pretending not to know what Julian was meaning with the dressing up in trench coats at the end. 😂
I agree with everything you guys said. The movie had so much heart and was very endearing. I'm 35 and it brought me back to when I was a silly teenager. Another thing I loved, which I'm surprised you guys didn't bring up, is I love how it's an animated film that makes real-world references. I loved how they bring up names like Beyonce and Tom Brady 🤣
Man my kids and I loved this movie. The turtles are the essence of their former selves with a feel of modern teens. They’re not using any 80’s slang anymore, but it would stick out like a sore thumb. I hope it shows them getting older and the story gets darker.
Never put on the turtle mask ever again 😂😂
Fun Fact: April O' Neil in the comics was based on the comic writers girlfriend who was mixed race.
True, but April O' Neil was animated as a White woman on both the comics and show, and even in the 1990 movie she's White(played by Judith Hoag). There's different depictions of her, and she herself even had her own spinoff comic series. This movie is the first time that April O' Neil is raceswapped to being a Black woman.
@adu1991 Well if you think about it, she was raceswapped to be a white redhead for many years to the point where people now think she was originally white lol. Same way a lot of people don't know Nick Fury was originally white in the comics until Samuel L. Jackson came in and owned the role so the rest is history lol.
Saw the sneak preview last weekend, and went with colleagues/buddies again on opening. Had a blast. Great iteration for the new generation, while still having something for the old heads. Love these new more personable versions of the TMNT. Even with some tweaks to the lore, I can’t wait to see where they go from here. Even with my old ass, I found these Turtles to be the most relatable they've ever been. As classic as the old movies/cartoons were, they definitely felt more like caricatures, or what old-dudes thought kids sounded like. Here, with them actually voiced by teenagers and the way they're directed, without spitting out single words like "tubular" or "gnarly" as catchphrases, the Turtles feel more genuine and authentic as characters. Their dynamic with Splinter is super endearing too. While only the 1990 film really showed Splinter as both a sensei and a father, I appreciate this movie going a bit of a different route, and having him be this helicopter parent. He just gives off this real overbearing parent vibe that so many of us have related to growing up. Taking a page from the 2012 series (which also was the first to really portray the Turtles as authentic teens), I loved that they made April a teenager herself so she could be more of a peer to the Turtles, rather than some damsel or a weird nanny-figure. Oh, and the animation and music? Chef’s kiss right there. The animation and art style are amazing, and totally works for this more pre-teen vibe. Less streamlined comic-book look, and more doodles & chicken-scratch from a sketchbook. Tho I did notice during the stream last night y’all referenced the wrong song for a particular montage from the movie... while MOP's "Ante Up" was used throughout the film, the montage in question used a different track. Speaking of which, my biased ass LOVES a particular 90s R&B song, and when they used it for this movie showcasing the Turtles doing their thing, I had the biggest smile on my face. Anyway, I gotta finish this essay lol. I loved this movie. I could see old-school TMNT fans not liking certain aspects due to lore changes and general tone; that's a shame, cuz as a big Turtle fan myself, I couldn't be happier with how this turned out. I know a sequel has been greenlit, but I really hope that despite Barbenheimmer still dominating, this movie gets legs and an audience. It deserves it.
This turtles movie will be a grand slam masterpiece since the original 1990 movie, 2007, 3 great cartoon series even the Bay versions, too. If I were a professional critic from their old site Spill Reviews, I’ll give it BETTER THAN SEX! Best movie of 2023. Well done, Paramount and Nickelodeon even Seth Rogen for bringing back my childhood. 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
One of the dopest things was the fight choreography was reflecting the fight choreography in Jackie Chan movies
Man yall bought them bandanas out the toddler section😂 looking forward to seeing the movie.
As a lifelong Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fan, I’m looking forward to seeing Mutant Mayhem. The cast is huge too. At 0:04 Martin as Leonardo is hilarious!🤣🤣🤣
Martin always trying to level with Julian lol
Liked it, but had two issues. April shouldn’t have been a teen. Had she been an adult reporter, with years on the job and tons of credibility, would’ve made more sense for people to listen to her during the finale. The way is ended kind of kills the franchise. Would’ve liked it better had they ultimately chosen to remain in the shadows, but not out of fear. If they’d chosen to remain hidden because it would be easier to watch over the city that way. They way this actually ended, don’t know where you go with that.
It's unlikely a reporter would change their minds.
The future of this continuity could include other non-mutant enemies from the TMNT franchise. For example, Shredder was hired by Cynthia Utrom to hunt the turtles down. Besides Shredder, Kraang and other denizens of Dimension X could attack, and aliens such as the Triceratons could invade. A later movie could even introduce mystical aspects like the 2003 continuity did.
With the brothers being able to have public high school lives, they might have to deal with drifting further apart due to diverging interests as they get older. That distance might include ruining their teamwork when they have to fight the next bad guy.
There is potential here in this continuity if the writers are willing to continue.
Peewee Herman passed and a TMNT movie came out. These to properties took over my childhood in the early 90’s
I'm glad they didn't say this is the first adaptation to have the turtles or April be actual teens. The 2012 one gets credit for being the first lol. Same with Splinter being portrayed as more of a father than Sensi.
9/10
Amazing film
This film blew me away. Totally subverted all expectations. Writing was great, Portrayal of characters was phenomenal, and the animation style was one of the most unique and incredible things to watch.
The action never stops and the humor is on point. The chemistry of the young actors playing the Turtles feels extremely natural and their talent shines through the entire film.
This is a fantastic, heartfelt movie with a ton of great allegories for young kids. It's great for all ages! This movie is going to blow people away and I cannot wait to see it achieve the level of success that it definitely deserves!
I thought the rap music was jarring and didn't fit in most scenes, but in that montage scene it got me so pumped, I love that song and scene
it was set in new york, what else would you expect??
I will say this, if I had a nickel for every time a rat made out with a cockroach I’d have to nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s _really_ weird that it actually happened twice.
Went to see this yesterday and...it was even better than I'd hoped it would be. Besides the whole Turtle Bros going to High School only making...a little sense, the origin behind some of the big name characters (Bebop, Rocksteady, Leatherhead) and the Turtle fam learning martial arts from stuff like RUclips videos or martial arts movies not making much sense; it was still awesome.
Can't wait to see how the sequel will play out and what the upcoming cartoon will bring.
My Rating: Better Than Sex
I'm with you on the ending. I feel like the turtles should have stayed hidden.
@@flexchan It's not THAT, I like the idea of the Turtles being able to go out into the open of New York.
It just feels weird seeing them go to high school, since none of the previous versions have done that before
Poor Martin’s eyes 😂
But Mutant Mayhem, I agree is a total blast. It’s the best TMNT movie IMO, I know people the first one from the 90s (I liked that one too), hell I even I liked the 2007 animated one. But this took a more authentic and creative direction with the turtles, making them be played by actual teenagers for one, but the animation while look similar to Spiderverse, stands on its own looking like something out of a kid’s sketchbook. The voice work is great, Jackie Chan is like perfect as Master Splinter, Ice Cube is being Ice Cube but it works for Superfly, and the score & soundtrack kicks ass and it’s funny as hell. One of the best movies of the summer and add to how good this year has been for animated films. Also I guess the 3rd best superhero film behind Spiderverse and Guardians 3 for me.
Also Mondo Gecko is a legend.
Korey wrong! Splinter has acted like a father in past iterations before! Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean it hasn't happened
I also like how the turtles have to share a phone with each other 😂 that's definitely something me & my siblings did when we where teenagers, I remember when I was in the 9th grade my mom bought us a cell phone & me and my siblings where figuring out which one is for us and when she said this phone is for me & my siblings for when we go run errands we where all like crap! 😆
LOL Coleman doing too much to Julian LMAO
The Tuttles been around for 30 years. Logan, Deadpool, Blade, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spawn, Harley Quinn and The Punisher had hard R adaptations on either small or big screen. Can we, for once, get a gritty version of them straight from the 1984 original Black and White Comicbook.
Probably not considering unlike the characters you mentioned the turtles popularity came from the lighter takes.

YAS! I LOVE WHEN MARTIN COSPLAYS
I just saw this movie today and I really liked it, the last 30 minutes I really loved, I also loved Jackie Chan's performance as Splinter, they made the aspect of him being their Dad very realistic especially in today's world. I loved how they were able to incorporate the teenage social media world that we're currently in, especially with the teenage charisma/mannerisms being very natural & realistic I can't wait to see this again I give it a full price

So is it just me, or did the humans in this movie look more like mutants than the turtles?!?😂😂😂
Ante Up was used when they went "grocery shopping" and No Diggity was used when they took down the crime bosses. Also the 2012 TMNT series they were pretty much teenagers as well. Ice Cube crushed it as Super Fly, I never thought the word Molly-whapped would ever be used in movie until now.
You guys should really do a retro review of the original Ninja Turtles theatrical movie
Why Michelangelo @1:19 next to Jim Henson be looking like KRS-ONE. LOL
Edit: It wasn't Ante Up that was played during the fight sequence, it was No Diggity.
With Mr Super Fly I'm guessing some of the score is gonna be blaxploitation era and Missy Elliotts "the rain" lol.
My only real complaint is the ridiculousness of them learning ninjistu from watching movies and RUclips. I prefer the story of Splinter and Shredder being rivals before the ooze.
Get it Martin!!!! Korey was cute and cockeyed.
They did say Cowabonga!
Now why is that one turtle obsessed with twerking his butt lol?
Animation was gorgeous. Story was solid but nothing ambitious which is okay. Moved quickly and had a few laughs. Good flick for kids and adults
I keep wanting Shane Black to reboot The Green Hornet with Ryan Gosling as Brett/The Hornet. No clue about Kato casting but GH seems SO in Black's groove.
Hey Martin kept that mask from the 2016 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows review
Fun fact, while actually sewers are to small and filthy to ever live in most major cities, including New York, have massive storm drain systems where one could live and travel through. These look very much like the Holywood depiction of "sewers" with huge tunnels you can walk in with only a small trail of water along the middle, handrails along the walkways, and even big chambers where multiple waterfalls are formed from various end pipes.
This was such a fun movie it gave me a lot of The Mitchell's vs The Machines vibes. Heck, it was directed from the co-director (Jeff Rowe) of that movie. I really love the art style and the comedy in this film. The characters were well written and are teenagers for once. This was a blast to watch on the big screen. I highly recommend this movie. This is in my Top 5 favorite films of this year.
The current state of the Turtle franchise has been pointing more emphasize on the TEEN aspect for years now, from 2012 to Rise. Although, this film is probably the most teen they ever been, it's not anything that is new.
It’s more 2D tho not 3D and may b 2D has came back completely now not just at Disney and that advert they did that had 101 dalmations was in it but others 2 but they ain’t obviously all gonna b the same tho looking like this 1 like ain’t gonna b the thing I doubt that but some will b I wouldn’t b surprised if the new Garfield movie starring chirs pratt that’s happening looks like this and the new animated cat in that movie that’s also happening does 2 so yeh it was a good movie happy days and ok good
I thought I heard Michelangelo say "cowabunga" in slow motion
30:05 I think a lot of people remember white versions of April and immediately started bitching about the animated April in this one being black.
When the original comic creators said she was intended to be asian but of mixed race i think. But drop that nugget on these “but but its woke” people and you’ll get crickets. They are only outraged because they wanted April to stay white.
I didn't recognize Martin without his hat on
Had a lotta fun with this. Grew up on the 1990s live action films and the 2007 animated film. The Bay-produced films were a mixed bag for me. This film was a lotta fun and it’s great this will be an intro for the next generation of kids who get to grow up on this. I’m ready for the sequel and TV series.
The only thing I had an issue with was Donny and Mikey It felt like their personality was flipped but still 9.5/10 movie was so dope
It makes sense that Martin would be Leonardo.
The movie was just okay really. The mutants themselves had no reason to be there at all, other than cameos and wasted potential for known villains. And then you've got Superfly who was just...so boring. It doesn't feel like they thought through a lot of the movie's decisions.
Ya I didn't think it was a good movie . Animation was good. But boring overall.
The montage scene song was actually No Diggity Blackstreet lol
Thank you Martin. 😂😂😂
Let's make Jean Grey black and watch the nerds bring the pitch forks out 😂😂
I'm more hyped for the sequel of this than the third Spider-Verse movie! Holy shit I had more fun in the theatre with this than with Mission Impossible and MI was my most anticipated movie of the year!
The crime boss scene was no digitty i thought
I was born in 1988, grew up with the turtles. My favorite version of them Is the 1990 live action film. While I haven't seen this version yet, I am disappointed that they seem to sound, look and act like a bunch of Tik Tok kids.. The property could stand to make a return to its darker origins for older fans. I mean in the comic that spawned everything Casey Jones pretty much killed criminals like The Punisher and in the 1990 movie Raphael cusses and gets brutally beat into a coma by The Foot Clan.
He kept calling them tortoises lol
The 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT cartoon is actually really good, Splinter treats the Turtles like his actual sons, April is a high school kid (as well is Casey Jones) and Shredder is a threatening force for a kids show. I actually reccomend it
Bro look like blank man 😂
Glad you enjoyed it I’ll probably see it this weekend also April has been changed so much over the years why now are people getting upset and angry about her portrayal make it make sense
That's the funny part
Aprils creators seem confused about her being originally Asian, mixed or white 😂
So she can be anything at this point 😂
