I know that Afrikaans speakers usually use pa en ma but one could say die vader and also die moeder which are closer to "Vader und Mutter"
I remember when i thought that afrikaans was a singular language by African people what a fucking dumbass i am
me too lol
Indeed you both are 😂
I don’t know why I haven’t subscribed to you yet
there's no time to explain. the story is more complicated than it seems.
Afrikaans is a sister language to Dutch, Flemish and German, and because of its linguistic genetic affiliation it has a close relationship with Hunskerian, Luxembourgish and Limburgish. They should be compared Afrikaans, Surinamese Dutch,Limburgs, Luxembourgish and Hunskerian and Pennsylvania Deutsch together.😂
As a Pennsylvanian I’m incredibly surprised Pennsylvanian Dutch (Deutsch) was mentioned…
We all know what Afrikaans is.
Apparently German Namibian is like mix between these two
Now, Could we do German and Yiddish as we English and Yiddish?
Great video.
Andy, you should resume your work posting indigenous languages and comparing protolanguages, as you did 3 months ago.

Is Afrikaans a Dutch-based creole language?
No it an old Dutch
It’s a language descended from Dutch
It could be considered a creole with quite a few words being borrowed from the local Koisan languages and from the Malay peoples from the slave trade in the 17th century. But other than the very limited vocabulary from those two among mixing between other European languages like French and German, Afrikaans vocabulary is 95% of Dutch origin. Additionally because Afrikaans is based on older Dutch, some terms and phrases used in Afrikaans seem Archaic to Dutch speakers.
@@Napoleon_Bonaparte1Afrikaans didn't have any pidgin phase, thus it's not a creole. It's arguably not a "half-creole" either. It's vocabulary overlaps 95% with modern Standard Dutch, but is ~99% lexically "Dutch". It's more lexically Dutch than Standard Dutch. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. Read actual books and studies.
@@bradleyheissmann4538 I never said it had a pidgin phase, all I said was that it could be interpreted as a creole, not that it is one, because it isn’t a creole language. 🤷♂️
Finally!
