Mike either would have been killed in some form of crime incident or sent to jail for most of his life. This is an excellent example of untapped potential and environment dynamics. There are ALOT of people in the world who could succeed and go far but they do not have the right people around them if they need console, guidance, direction..etc And they wind up underachievers or just squander their un-tapped talents away. Mike got lucky. I just wish that Cus could have seen Mike attain the top of the pyramid, but I think Cus knew Mike was already on his way but he himself ran out of time.

He took this black kid from Brooklyn and brought him everywhere around town, Catskills is all white, upstate farming community, I've been there then, it's almost like an Amish community, and he said, "That's my boy, that's my son. Cus had no real way of telling if Mike was gonna amount to anything, hell he lost 3 fights as a teen, so the "Cus saw dollar signs, and exploited this kid" theory, is pure B.S.! As a white poor inter-city kid, I learned one thing...THE HUMAN SOUL IS COLOR BLIND WHEN IT COMES TO REAL LOVE...I was picked up off the streets by Chris "Rocketman" Sease (Syracuse basketball star) and he tough-loved me and was my Black surrogate Father and Big Brother, Big Brother Love has no color! I think Cus’s last lesson to Tyson was given to him in death. The last thing he needed to become great was knowing what it is like to lose everything you have, so that was Tyson would fight even harder to keep it.
