Nice review. I've tested Marsupial, Badlands, Sitka (gen2), Eberlestock, MuleyFreak, and others. In my opinion, Eberlestock Recon is #1 and Sitka is #2. Why? The wings on the side are more robust and stable for molle attachments. And, the open and close on all the Eberlestock modules are the best. Again, just one guy's opinion. You asked for comments. There you go. :)

Milkweed for a windicator. Keep the powder as a backup but milkweed is by far a better way at reading the wind. Powder disperses quickly, the milkweed you can watch float for quite awhile and really show you if the wind is swirling. Powder doesn't really show wind swirl well.

A couple considerations important to pretty much any backwoods hunter.
    1. Noise... anyone who has run the complimentary glasspak from vortex knows what I'm talking about. Very loud to open or close. It also is noisy while moving.
    2. Water wicking ability (which you touched on briefly) the more material they have, the higher potential they have for yapping moisture and condensing your optics.
For me, the FHF can't be beat. I've been wearing one for about 3 or 4 years now. They check all the boxes that are important to me.
Great review, Tim. Keep it up.

I've ran Kuiu, Marsupial, and Outdoor Vision Gear. Outdoor Vision Gear is the most slept on harness on the market. Built in the USA with as good or better quality as any mentioned here. Plus the lid flipping open and being its own little holding tray is perfect for tree stand hunting and glassing sessions to set your phone/snack/accessories/etc. With that said Marsupial is great as well and Kuiu is just a small step down IMO.

Nice vid Tim. I have been down this road . I ditched the Marsupial because of the magnets, I’ll never run them again as they interfered with my compass. I sent the Kifaru back. I didn’t like the open or close, plus it did not fully enclose my binos leaving a gap on the side for debris to get into. I’ll be running my Stone for the 3rd year in a row. It has been pretty bomb proof. It’s waterproof, low pro, light weight, very minmal, and truly one had open and close: I put about 30 plus days a year in the woods and it has stood up. It’s been to Alaska, open country, and the thick nasties of N ID. I have minor issues with it and will run it again this year.

  • @TheDuke539

I assume this qualifies as a chest baby - but I’m a fan of the badlands xr harness. No extra pouches hanging everywhere. Very clean design that doesn’t snag or tangle. Holds my binos up top, full draw 5 below, windicator in the left pocket, and uv button in the right. Can even stick a sub compact in the rear pocket. Last year - final day of whitetail season. Trying to fill a doe tag. Was using the vortex chest harness with my rangefinder shoved between my chest and the pack. Ended up getting my truball short n sweet’r wrist release tangled in the rangefinder’s strap and was busted while trying to free the release. That experience drew me to the badlands harness. It has survived OK, TN, CO, and SD TACs and many trips up and down trees placing cams. Other than a bit of dirt it still looks brand new.

The issue I have with fold under vs. magnetic...I want the harness to be quiet. Rustling around with the fold under sure seemed loud. With magnetic I have found that if you have a bunch of stuff in that front pocket, don't expect it to magnetically stay open. The marsupial is super quiet for me, which is my primary need. The fact it protects like crazy is nice. I just put it in my backpack with all my optics in it when I am traveling to/from the hunting property.

Good video Tim, I’ve run both Marsupial and most recently the Stone Glacier harness. It’s also important to note that the Stone harness is customizable to your binoculars size. Agree that it’s very light weight and great specially for the early season hunt when it’s hot. Protection, Stone does a great job to protect the binos but also consider Vortex warranty as a huge plus if something happens to them.

    • @andrewleonard4490

My thoughts exactly. My bino harness is for keeping my optics clean more than protected. I think a harness should be comfortable and lite. It only has to protect the binoculars until the end of the season and it's off to Vortex if repairs are needed.

This hurts my feelings a little. I ran the Marsupial Gear “no mag” last year. It was awesome having the adjustable elastic strap to keep the flap in place where ever you want to put it. I ended up giving it to my dad to take on a trip to Africa earlier this summer and ordering another one. I accidentally ordered one with the magnetic enclosure and was immediately concerned about the flap not staying out in the open position. This confirms my fears.

The liner on the inside is really slick! So if you don't run the insurance straps and you keep the lid unhooked. They will slide right out on you bending over. Annoying! The SG is really good but after running it for 4 years I've had a couple issues. If your top closure flap is too tight the plastic tube that keeps its form/structure will wear a hole through the two corners of the flap, not a huge deal but I've had to patch mine. The other issue, because of its minimalist design the neck webbing has no padding and can rub on your skin so if your not wearing a hood or buff it can be annoying. Otherwise its a great product.

When it’s rut I can roll around with everything I need in just my harness. Downside is you need to wear it under rain gear. The Kuiu wets out from the Velcro on the bottom and wicks up inside. Have you had any experience with the marsupial no-mag enclosed bino harness? I'm just wondering how it compares to the magnetic one that everyone seems to have.

I just use my Helikon Tex TMR. Definitely not what it's designed for but I have it setup to fill a lot of roles.

I have the Sitka bino harness. It was one of the only ones that I found that included webbing so I could attach a chest holster. I hate the straps on it though since they are thin and easily get twisted. Better strap system like on the Alaskan Guide would make it perfect.

I haven't tried a whole lot, but i started with the vortex glass pac(shit), I've tried on the badlands and Alaskan. I ended up running the Kuiu its amazingly comfortable and I like customization, I also am kind of biased since I wear the kuiu verde camo already. I'd be curious to see what you thought of that one

You could run your marsupial harness on your kifaru bag to take advantage of the bino tethers

Marsupial gear looks the business but, as an Australian, an American owned and American made company using a Kangaroo as their logo makes me feel weird…

As I understand, the Kangaroo is the universal international symbol of pockets and pouches.

Which one is made out of material that will repel bur balls and other prickers the best? I hate picking them out of my gear after a long hunt.

Tried a lot of different ones, settled on the Marsupial and I’m not turning back. Have it set up just like yours, plus the holster and hand warmer muff. I’ve never had that problem with the magnets not catching on mine when opening.

I’ll stick with Marsupial…..the light weight stone glacier one lack’s enough protection and looks like your binocs would fall out if you bent over. Just looks cheap. The Kifaru looks like a chest mounted mini duffle bag. Marsupial checks all the right boxes.
