LN2233 John Linneman Yeah basically awards related to the technology behind the games, the games themselves, and maybe even the developers. Please make this happen DF!
The polish and detail to this game really impressed me. You can tell they put some love into crafting this world. Really hope they continue this quality in the future.
***** Hey, thats your opinion lol. I enjoyed it and saw a lot of things I liked, and thats that really. Don't see the need to insult when someone disagrees just to feel superior somehow.
Great video. I must say, what an incredible technical achievement. Blows me away. I did notice some weird low resolution alpha effects/textures during combat, which I don't think are mentioned in your video.
This game really does have a ground breaking sense of scale. The draw distance and environments along with how the combat system let's you fight enemies on a scale just completely superior to other games. This is Final Fantasy. I've played from 6-15. Yo. Fuck your turn based combat and get with it. This is an amazing game.
I think you should have talked a bit more about the animation or give some more examples. Noctis reaches out his hand when it rains to feel the droplets of water, each type of food is eaten with an animation that makes sense, while running the caracters can do "running idle" animations like turn around and stuff, they can fall asleep in the car on a rainy day, there is just an incredible number of little things like this (of course the link attacks animations are awesome but they rarely work cause they bug out so often). It may sound stupid but i just love little details and this is certainly the most detailed animation work in a video game that i have ever seen .
I noticed one thing way early on in the game. When u get to the area where u have to get the gem for Dino the reporter, if u go into the building there at night and talk to the waitress about cooking the fish, the image quality becomes really dark and the colors go haywire.
Talon Marshall no it's not -_- 1800p checkerboard means it is half the resolution of 1800p. every frame renderes the equivalent of half the horizontal axis and the full vertical axis of 1800p and then uses the checkerboarding technique to create a full 1800p image. not quite as good as native, but close enough for most ppl to not notice the difference
1800p or 1080p? I'm not asking to be a smart ass or anything like that, I'm legitimately asking since how the pixel count system is a mystery to me, I wanted more clarification.
FSAPO Taking on board and developing a PC version with all the different variables that come with it, would have lead to resources been taken away from the Console version which would be bad for the vast majority of Final Fantasy fans.
All the staff that knew or training on Luminous is on XV when it's in development. They made Luminous with the thought of using it for future consoles as well since it supports DX12 (based from a few articles). They knew they have problems with the engine, only announcing using external software late last year. SEnix just can't wait for the engine to stabilize for development, thus they use UE4 for KH2.8, 3 and 7R episode 1 since the engine is quite common in use and a lot of programmers are used to it.
8:03 the lipsync issue might be related to the audio language; I'm playing in japanese and haven't noticed anything yet, quite the contrary, they match pretty well.
betonman9 for an open-world game it's more impressive the luminous engine as a whole is better than ND's engine. Luminous was used to make kingsglaive while at it's best ND's engine is in there pre-rendered trailers, i don't think in there current state ND could make an actual seamless ooen-world game look close to what FFXV looks like and UC4 has one of the worst LOD drops close to the player I've ever seen even compared to FFXV. UC4 does do water and character detail better than FF but as a whole FF is slightly more pleasing visually.
LN2233 I did include the word "fully". Yes I can enjoy the game on my PS4 Pro, but it is a tad irritating when I'm used to gaming on my 1440p 144Hz monitor.
i stuck with the stutter hq mode. is it annoying? yes, but it looks so good if you see it in person. everything is so clean and the level of detail blows the lite version.
Honestly I left it on HQ mode on my Pro. The frame pacing is bothering me so much, its borderline bloodborne level; but the level of detail in that mode is insane. if you switch between that and Lite mode, there's a huge difference. I'm also playing this on a 1080p monitor so the 1800p downscales beautifully.
Link My Love same I tried the lite mode on my 4k & could not do it & I have not experience that most frame pacing at all, maybe it ain't a big deal for me
Samuel Campana ??? As I said I left it on HQ mode and I'll deal with the frame pacing, its up to the players on how they want to play it. Frame pacing does bother some players but in the end they get to decide what they prefer. Not sure why you became sensitive about a non trivial joking comment.
Lol PC gamers are such haters, and i am a PC gamer too (Thegantz87 - Steam). But can you guys let console gamers have ANYTHING without hating? this is why they mainly dont like us lol.
If it's not 1st party exclusive it should be on PC IMO. I do disagree with calling exclusive games hostageware because it is like complaining about Orange is the New Black being exclusive to Netflix. I also don't know why they take so long to make ports for PC sometimes. At least they tend to bundle the DLC together though.
Who cares who likes who? The money they spent on this game it WILL come to PC they just want to squeeze as much as they can out of the captive Console audience as usual. It's all good. Waited this long, I can wait another year or so for the definitive version.
I bought PS4 Pro for this game and I'm pissed at how shitty the consoles are. Day one XBONE was the last console I played, and this is PS4 is just as much of a let down. Playing at 30fps with terrible frame timing and no aliasing. I love the game, but it looks and plays pretty bad. Could just because I'm used to 1440p with a GTX 1080. So I understand why people hate on consoles, they hold PC gaming back!! When this comes to PC it will be a competitor for best looking game for sure.
You must be playing in low res mode on a really shitty tv. because the game looks and plays fantastic on my 43" lg 4k hdr smart tv with the pro. there is no holding anyone back lol im a pc gamer and normally play on pc but gotta give credit where its due and the pro does this game wonderfully. its only moron pc gamers that think console is holding everyone else back. its a stupid assumption to think that. The ONLY thing holding pc games back is the lazy ass devs that don't want to port games correctly or optimize for pc releases.
BadLuck Gaming Samsung KS8000 4k HDR in High mode. You're blind if you think the game looks good lmao. Aliasing everywhere, it's blurryish, stutter and frame rate issues, ugly texture pop in.
I enjoyed this video. It was informative and detailed and I liked that you didn't spend a lot of time focusing on what are in my opinion usually minors issues, i.e. frame-rate dips and frame-pacing.
MrInuhanyou123 Playing through the game imagining what it would be like on really high settings plus 60 fps similar to when I was playing GTA 5 on ps3. Enjoying the game very much even with the visual drawbacks.
so, 1080p magically increases a console anisotropic filter? At why 60 fps if the game runs at 30 anyway? Does RUclips 60 fps also increases the fps on console to 60 as well? Someone is an idiot...
18 hours into the game, can't take the low 30FPS anymore so waiting for a patch on PS4 Pro. If they do release it on PC though, I have no problem playing through this again. It is a bit repetitive though.
charizardoreo Being an idiot has nothing to do with it if you have set standards. The poor performance ruins the experience. Why do I need to go backwards when I can continue moving forward? Besides there's plenty of other titles to enjoy than just one.
Devin Money That is kind of like saying that if Gordon Ramsay made you a gourmet pizza from the freshest ingredients you would still not eat it because he didn't put red peppers on it. Talk about cutting your nose to spite your face.
nicklong27 Or maybe I would eat it but not like it to it as much. However there is only so much you want. Only in this case, the red peppers are being added in the future. So maybe I can continue with the less quality one which I currently don't like, but I have patience for a better complete meal of what I do want. After all, it is a purchase that I may or may not like, and there's other foods to choose from. What's wrong with waiting for the best to my wants? I can choose. A 60FPS to 30FPS downgrade is more like Fresh Oven Pizza vs Microwave Pizza.
***** For you and others. I'm playing other games already. This has nothing to do with being to good for it other then to me having a crappy frame rate. Deal with it. Don't know why you defend this. If performance was better, it benefits us all. If I don't want to play it, I'm not going to. I respect everyones opinions here and understand why or why not they will play a game. I'm not going to force someone to play a game and have the same opinion as me lol
Hope we don't have to wait too long for the PC release. This game looks and runs great on console, but PC will really wash the minor flaws out and open up the game to the massive RPG PC community. I really hope the next generation of consoles are integrated with Windows and/or Linux so that the gaming community and our options are more united than ever. Everyone needs access to better games, better graphics, better performance and better price options without sacrificing who they can connect to and play with online.
vivek antoni There's no official announcements, however, it's rumored to come out in 2018, hopefully, it's not that long a wait, but I hope they don't rush it and we get a shitty port either.
franky *_looks at official reveal trailer_* 1,165,933 views, close to 100,000 likes and over 10,000 comments in just under 15 hrs of its upload.... Yep, who cares.
we have this game on ps4 and xbox one ! i saw my brother playing it and it looked sharper on ps4 than my xbox one but i am happy with this game because its a great game and i dont get bored playing it
Reddit user PrionBakon explained it like this: Johnny and Amanda take 60 steps over a minute to cross the length of a hallway. Johnny takes one step per second. Every step would not look much different from one another so his motion is very smooth. Amanda hops every other step. All the even steps take 1.5 seconds while all the odd steps take 0.5 seconds. Both Johnny and Amanda are making the same number of steps per minute (frames per second), but the timing per step (frame pacing) differs. Johnny's steps would look very smooth but Amanda's are much more erratic, making the action feel less smooth and jittery.
Frame Pacing or frame latency as it should be called, is the time the engine uses to produce (render) the frame to display it on your screen. If this jumps all over the place, then even at 30 or 60 or even 120 fps it could produce a somewhat laggy experience.
Good frame pacing at 30 fps would mean you would receive an updated frame every 33.3 ms. Bad frame pacing would still give you 30 fps but would send it to you by alternating between 16.67 ms, 33.3 ms and 50 ms. Bad frame pacing gives you a jerky experience.
On PC when you have frame pacing issues you normally buy a better graphics Card or you just change graphics settings right? So, can this be a PlayStation problem or we are sure that the problem is there because the engine itself?
Thank you for talking about shaders. I get annoyed with most youtubers when they talk about graphics because they never go into what's actually in the game. They always go, "Good resolution and textures"
The Xbox version barely looks any different from PS4, plus the frame rate is much more consistent. So if you mean the ps4 version is disappointing, then yes. Yes, it is.
To me it looks incredibly blurry. That dynamic resolution is blatantly spending most of its time at 720p. And the frame rate is the same as the PS4 version so I honestly don't know how you've managed to think that. And no, I'm not hating on Xbox, I have all platforms. I'm just saying there is definitely a big difference.
No, it isn't just you. It somehow looks both blurry and pixelated at the same time. People who aren't seeing a difference must be watching the video on their phone or something.
I'm playing this on a brand new OLED TV. It's amazing, I have no words to describe it. Today I went back to my mom's place with my console, planning to advance a little on my not so old LED TV and I could not bring myself to play it because I felt I was missing so much. I've never been a fan of Final Fantasy, I always get bored with JRPGs fast, think they are too repetitive, but this is a masterpiece. I'm talking about tech and gameplay here. This game is easily the best RPG we got this year.
I bought an LG B6 OLED recently, finally replacing my aging Panasonic plasma (I'm particular about the ghostly look of other technologies and blacks looking grey, so I waited for OLED). I ordered a few new games, including FF XV, which should arrive within the next few days. Looking forward to seeing the HDR implementation; I've heard it's among the best so far.
Same TV mate! You're in for big surprise when you see the color saturation of the OLED for the first time. And the fact there's no ghosting at all. I've had plasmas, LCDs, LEDs... It's the first time in a lot of years since CRT that I can say technology moved forward again, instead of just trying to compensate for things we took for granted with the old CRTs. :)
So ur going to kiss out on a great game like this just because of frame pacing lmao u absolute tool get ur head out of ur ass stop getting caught up in all this technical jargon and just enjoy the game idiots
chris ahmed I love graphics. hence why I have a GTX 1080 in my PC, but i also agree with you 100%. If 720p 30 fps was the only way to play this then still count me in.
nicklong27 - Count me in as well thats not my problem with the game It could be running at 480p at 30fps and ill still play it My problem with the game is frame pacing you know the thing that makes 30fps games look bad and play bad (cough) Bloodborne (cough)
So, DF, here is a question for you - how does the scaling work on ps4 and One wrt creating the final 1080p frame? To be more specific - does the engine internally scale the final image up to 1080p or does it output whatever rez it is currently at while scaling hardware on the consoles then scales the image to the chosen output of the user? Or, another way to ask this question - would playing the One version on a 720p tv or the ps4 version on a 900p monitor remove the issues concerning image scaling increasing the softness, especially with the overzealous temp aa already doing enough damage on it's own?
@sexymajesco Great comment since TLOU2 was just announced, Lol. Naughty Dog's last decent game was Uncharted 2 (same can't be said for Uncharted 1, though..). That, and the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy are their only games worth playing lol.
G RAG3R I personally dont get why people prefer 2 over 3. 2 had a terrible final act and I could never bring myself to finish it on top of being really poorly balanced unless you like staying in cover for 15 minutes each firefight.
The pro version also has better reflections and added ambient occlusion which I'm disappointed you guys didn't point out. "Everything else is identical" 👀👀 these are things I noticed with my own eyes when switching between the high and lite modes and I'm far from the most tech savvy person so something must be up with DF
i sincerely hope so. the ff13 series cam to PC...eventually. If they don't port it within a year i'll have to buy a ps4 pro for this game and the upcoming ff7 remake. and last of us 2 ofc
LEGITIMATE QUESTION: Coming from playing primarily on PC, texture filtering is something you can easily max out and see literally no difference in performance. Why does it seem like something that is always left tuned so low on console versions of games? Especially considering how similar in architecture the consoles are to pcs nowadays. It just seems like something that could be easily remedied, and with with meaningful visual improvement, on even the least powerful of hardware.
I got it on the Xbox, and do love it, but I would love to see this game come to PC with a way to transfer saves over from our console play-through. I would gladly buy this game over again for that. Also, regarding the image quality, I never noticed any the AA issues once when playing, and I have over 60+ hours into this game already. Every battle and cut-scene looks great, and open-world plus no loading screens (aside from fast traveling) just makes this game much more immersive than anything else I have played in the past 10 years. This game is truly something special, and with all the upcoming support already promised by Square-Enix, I am just excited for the future of this game and all FF games.
Lundos Knight Nope, i ve got a shity notebook I ve got to insert a lot of commands in the console so it can run the game at 21 fps, the only problem is that it looks like minecraft But i usually play hl2 on my xbox 1
wow, I hope you are kidding, Half-Life 2 runs on a fucking toaster in this day and age. even my 5 years old laptop can run it at very high in 50-60fps.
I really hope SE adds a 1080p 30fps mode for the pro similar to Tomb Raider. Also I think the main reason why FFXV is the only game running on luminous studio so far is because the team who developed the engine is part of Business Division 2.
my wife really wanted this for her gaming rig she built this last year which would have undoubtedly out done our consoles. we ended up going with the xbox version. the game is mind blowing !
Off topic: Could you guys at DF take a look at the latest Zelda gameplay? The framerate looks low, but some people say that the whole clip is running at ~24fps, even the recorded video of Bill. So maybe the framerate isn't so bad but rather the recording?
Loved those subtitles at the end John! Haha I actually diverted my eyes at first thinking it would contain story spoilers so I had to rewind to read them all. Awesome job on the video! You've convinced me to try the Lite mode on PS4 Pro.
Been playing it on PS4 Pro HQ mode on my 4k PC monitor and it looks fantastic. Unfortunately the framerate stutters rather frequently out in the world but I'm hoping they address that in the upcoming patch.
This kind of masterpiece has to be launched in PC. It is not a question of PC vs Consoles but the incredible hardwork of creating and designing all this and then a MAJOR drawback, a Console that simply hasn't the horsepower needed.
Not seeing the pacing on my own unit again. The only time I got noticeable framepacing in Bloodborne was when I made another PSN account for it, which doesn't make sense. Back on ordinary accounts, none of it existed in there. Back to that new account, very visible framepacing that hurt my eyes. That PSN name consisted of six letters, underscore, seven letters. This is weird.
The PS4 doesn't even hold 1080p in this game (dynamic res). This is a very demanding engine. Keep in mind that the 2015 demo ran at 900p on PS4 and 720p (around there) on Xbox One. They've done a great job considering the demands of this title.
This game has been in development for so long this might as well be a DF Retro video.
Playing on a Ps4 Pro at High with HDR on a Samsung KS9000 Is seriously jaw dropping !!
RUclips doesn't do it justice, you have to see it yourself.
Gon no one cares
People do care about the performance of games on specific systems, that is literally what this channel is for. Why are you even here?
I bet
LOL
"jaw dropping" 30fps with upscaled resolution? bwahahahaha console peasant please...
I have to agree with you. I am also playing the same way only my Philips TV doesn't have HDR. But it still looks great nonetheless.
5 years later and it's still extremly beautyful 😍💖
Can you guys do like a video in an award style about the best looking game released this year? Or the best engine?
I like this idea
ARL most technologically impressive game
LN2233 John Linneman Yeah basically awards related to the technology behind the games, the games themselves, and maybe even the developers. Please make this happen DF!
Digital Foundry awards, great idea!
Battlefield 1 that was easy
The polish and detail to this game really impressed me. You can tell they put some love into crafting this world. Really hope they continue this quality in the future.
You have zero experience with good grammar and sentence structure. Your comment made that abundantly clear!
***** Hey, thats your opinion lol. I enjoyed it and saw a lot of things I liked, and thats that really. Don't see the need to insult when someone disagrees just to feel superior somehow.
That ending caught me off guard LOL
This game is amazing, SE did a great job!!
Yes! Someone positive!
Great video. I must say, what an incredible technical achievement. Blows me away. I did notice some weird low resolution alpha effects/textures during combat, which I don't think are mentioned in your video.
Ahaha. Those stealth subtitles at the end :D
6:02 that tower just pop-out from nowhere
As a PC player : I hope console players enjoy this game :D
FalloutPro21 Thanks, i love gaming in general, no matter which platform. I own the 3 big ones and love them equally.
FalloutPro21 have fun not playing this game
Thx :D
जॉन सीना Jhon Sina im trying my pc elitist persona
FalloutPro21 That's not allowed. shitting on consoles is allowed though.
edit: a word
I just love these kinds of videos from you guys ad DigitalFoundry. This is Top-Tier content

I'm still trying to get over the opera scene form FFVI
Sayo Manzini VI is the best FF imo
Sayo Manzini 99 / 100 nobles impressed

they said it uses checkerbaord to reach 3200x1800 and thats mean that the real resolution is below 1800p
maroom1 dont care

+FSAPO amen
Gr8 B8 M8
FSAPO Taking on board and developing a PC version with all the different variables that come with it, would have lead to resources been taken away from the Console version which would be bad for the vast majority of Final Fantasy fans.
Prince Dizzy That's not how it works...
RubberDuckerFuckerBerg You do realize consoles can't handle high res textures right? I hope you do.
I don't see how much of a future this engine has since all of Square Enix's other AAA games are on the Unreal Engine 4
All the staff that knew or training on Luminous is on XV when it's in development. 8:03 the lipsync issue might be related to the audio language; I'm playing in japanese and haven't noticed anything yet, quite the contrary, they match pretty well.
the music for this game is outstanding
It's surreal that this game looks MUCH better than Forspoken.
Sporfoken
great work, df! but the joke at the end really took the cake. i'll refer to this mid-generation refresh consoles as lord scorpio and count pro now.
just my opinion but I think this game looks more impressive than Uncharted 4
AHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHHA no
betonman9 for an open-world game it's more impressive the luminous engine as a whole is better than ND's engine. Beast of the Far East no. if you talk about nature and characters. UC4 graphich better than ffxv. you should play both of them.
Considering it's open world, yeah it's definitely more impressive.
nextpkfr
Well, from what I remember, Luminous can do a lot but has been a massive headache. So I have to wonder how much work it has taken to make it work
Hopefully this is on PC in a year, then we get proper AA and unlocked frame rates and can enjoy the game fully.
Edvardas N so you can't enjoy the can't without AA and an unlocked framerate?
LN2233 I did include the word "fully". Yes I can enjoy the game on my PS4 Pro, but it is a tad irritating when I'm used to gaming on my 1440p 144Hz monitor.
I feel you bro.
The game can be enjoyed now. The AA isnt bad in it either.
PS4 Pro 1080p 60FPS Patch confirmed on 21th february
Liked for the very humorous subtitles at the end of the video!
lol at the dialogue sequence at the end of the video, nice analysis overall John.
You basically have to chose between blurry peasant box version and stuttering turd station 4 one. It's like asking whose shit you'd prefer to eat.
i stuck with the stutter hq mode. is it annoying? yes, but it looks so good if you see it in person. everything is so clean and the level of detail blows the lite version.

I'd play the version with solid 60 fps.
PS4 Pro 1080p 60FPS Patch confirmed on 21th february!!
Fendera Why no regular PS4?
Ps5 in lite mode is 60fps, and the game if free with ps plus.
0:37 THE GOOSEBUMPS !!!
This game is amazing!
I enjoyed this video. It was informative and detailed and I liked that you didn't spend a lot of time focusing on what are in my opinion usually minors issues, i.e. frame-rate dips and frame-pacing.
Needs a PC version. there is no anisotropic filtering and the game is straight blurry.
Try to increase the RUclips setting to 1080p60
Jen Soon Ng I'm playing the game myself on og ps4. As digital foundry said the anti aliasing solution is very aggressive.

charizardoreo Being an idiot has nothing to do with it if you have set standards.
SH4D0WXR33CONt1 When is it releasing for PC?
vivek antoni There's no official announcements, however, it's rumored to come out in 2018, hopefully, it's not that long a wait, but I hope they don't rush it and we get a shitty port either.
SH4D0WXR33CONt1 Better to wait then getting a bad port...
2018? the game will be irrelevant by then. PC gamers keep getting screwed
The Last of Us Part II

The dialog at the end lmao
He's right mobile is the only way
we have this game on ps4 and xbox one ! i saw my brother playing it and it looked sharper on ps4 than my xbox one but i am happy with this game because its a great game and i dont get bored playing it
This game in on a different level. Impressive in every way. But imo the witcher 3 is still the best so far.
I love the ending subtitles.
can't wait for DF Retro
Incredible video. Really detailed. Thank you!
I dont understand your problem with ``Bad Frame Pacing´´ i dont understand what is mean.
For me, the game runs in mostly liquid 30 fps.
AlternativExXxHonK bloodborne had frame pacing issues but I beat that no problem.
Reddit user PrionBakon explained it like this:
Johnny and Amanda take 60 steps over a minute to cross the length of a hallway.
Johnny takes one step per second. Every step would not look much different from one another so his motion is very smooth.
Amanda hops every other step. All the even steps take 1.5 seconds while all the odd steps take 0.5 seconds.
Both Johnny and Amanda are making the same number of steps per minute
(frames per second), but the timing per step (frame pacing) differs.
Johnny's steps would look very smooth but Amanda's are much more
erratic, making the action feel less smooth and jittery.
Can we hope an update which would fix the frame pacing on both PS4s ? I want to play high quality without bad frame pacing :(
Dark Souls 3 never got an update. I don't think Japanese developers care enough to fix it :(
However, Square Enix is not From Software, so can't we have a little hope after all ?
Kévin Le Diouron maybe in December, because they are going to release a 60fps patch on the pro and maybe frametime fix?
I never thought they use luminous studio man. Dat engine is so much potential
Is it just me or are the differences between Xbox One and regular PS4 like night and day? Seriously disappointing...
Jonathon Downie Are you joking?
The Xbox version barely looks any different from PS4, plus the frame rate is much more consistent. So if you mean the ps4 version is disappointing, then yes. Yes, it is.
the xbox one is less powerful so the resolution is a little lower, idk what you were expecting
SiegfriedX I went from CRT to plasma to OLED. I skipped LCDs and LEDs completely.
I'll think ill pass on this game unless there is an update to fix the frame pacing. I would rarther have stable framerate than graphics
If 720p 30 fps was the only way to play this then still count me in.
nicklong27 - Count me in as well thats not my problem with the game It could be running at 480p at 30fps and ill still play it
My problem with the game is frame pacing you know the thing that makes 30fps games look bad and play bad (cough) Bloodborne (cough)
ThatNormalBunny
Yeh it would be nice if they fixed that shit but i'm still gonna play it either way
So, DF, here is a question for you - how does the scaling work on ps4 and One wrt creating the final 1080p frame? To be more specific - does the engine internally scale the final image up to 1080p or does it output whatever rez it is currently at while scaling hardware on the consoles then scales the image to the chosen output of the user?
Or, another way to ask this question - would playing the One version on a 720p tv or the ps4 version on a 900p monitor remove the issues concerning image scaling increasing the softness, especially with the overzealous temp aa already doing enough damage on it's own?
BINARYGOD I'll try it on my PS4 and see
@Saad Al Bloushi - Thanks for the help! :-)
Bring it to PC then we'll talk.
Ok, let's talk!
I heard the car you drive in this game has auto pilot. SOOOOOO NEXT GEN!!!
All of naughty dogs games are on auto pilot but people seem to like them
@sexymajesco Great comment since TLOU2 was just announced, Lol. Naughty Dog's last decent
game was Uncharted 2 (same can't be said for Uncharted 1, though..).
That, and the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy are their only games
worth playing lol.
G RAG3R I personally dont get why people prefer 2 over 3. 2 had a terrible final act and I could never bring myself to finish it on top of being really poorly balanced unless you like staying in cover for 15 minutes each firefight.
I've lost you, are we talking about Need For Speed or Final Fantasy here?
this isn't a driving game. it's meant for faster travel from A to B and as a plot device. it's not GTAV
It's an amazing looking game....for Japanese emo teens, I guess.
This damn good Soundtrack .. Apocalypsis Noctis is one of the greatest Boss Battle Themes I have ever listened to.
For all that technical whatever you praise in this game, the outcome of the gameplay is pretty mediocre in this game
amazing video. Everything I'm looking for. real substance. I'm subbing after just 1 video
tokio hotel
The pro version also has better reflections and added ambient occlusion which I'm disappointed you guys didn't point out. "Everything else is identical"
👀👀 these are things I noticed with my own eyes when switching between the high and lite modes and I'm far from the most tech savvy person so something must be up with DF
Last of us 2 and Uncharted lost legacy coming
You mean The Last of Milk and Please don't forget about Nathan Drake we have no other good games or characters
TLOU Part II, RDR2, UC: TLL, GOW, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human and more... CAN'T WAIT.
ThatNormalBunny Gravity Rush, Driveclub, Dragon Quest, Crash, Ace Combat 7, Spider-man and Nioh would like to speak with you.
Isaac - ??? Ok i would love to speak to Gravity Rush 2 i am looking forward to playing it
How is the last of us milked when there's only been 1 previous game dumbass.
Awesome stuffs! Been waiting for this one for a long time.
Xbox has no games.
Josef Stalin and you have no life
You have no life
cry XFAGS
no mans sky
Josef Stalin no one is crying but you, u say the same shit every video
I found it really odd how ambient occlusion in this game isn't hidden or minimized by sunlight. Looks very uncanny.
I hope they are capable and willing to port the luminous system to consoles for a PC port. This game in 60 fps would be a wonderful experience.
i sincerely hope so. the ff13 series cam to PC...eventually.
It’s awesome playing this a 60fps on ps5
Digital Foundry awards
now that is a great idea
0:20 _"offering one the most technically accomplished presentations"_ , he said while showing footage with no shadows coming from the characters :D
They were in a tunnel the sun can't hit them from there.
lol I know I giggled right there too knowing the XB1 version maxes out at 900p...in 2016.
They were inside the shadow already, the additional shadowing is ambient occlusion although it doesn't fully account for indirect shadowing
Hopefully the inevitable PC version would solve the frame pacing issues. Also the elimination of the dithering in the hair would be nice to.
Meanwhile, my pc strugling to run Half-Life 2
You're trying to be funny here?
Lundos Knight Nope, i ve got a shity notebook
I ve got to insert a lot of commands in the console so it can run the game at 21 fps, the only problem is that it looks like minecraft
But i usually play hl2 on my xbox 1
wow, I hope you are kidding, Half-Life 2 runs on a fucking toaster in this day and age.
even my 5 years old laptop can run it at very high in 50-60fps.
Beast of the Far East Well mine cant
i can barely watch youtube whit it
Sup
How are you guys able to use in-game music without dealing with copyright stuff?
I love the subtitles at the end :D
I really hope SE adds a 1080p 30fps mode for the pro similar to Tomb Raider. Also I think the main reason why FFXV is the only game running on luminous studio so far is because the team who developed the engine is part of Business Division 2.
my wife really wanted this for her gaming rig she built this last year which would have undoubtedly out done our consoles. we ended up going with the xbox version. the game is mind blowing !
I played the demo on xbone and it looked pretty darn fine actually :)
Dionysus which demo? the new japanese one, the platinum demo or the episode duscae demo? cuz the duscae demo looked like ass on both xD
Great as usual, DF
Off topic:
Could you guys at DF take a look at the latest Zelda gameplay?
I have it on PS4 and I'm enjoying it. If it does come out on PC, I will buy it there as well.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention about procedurally generated clouds.
what happend to gigitalfoundry why no more pc benchmarks wating for answer DigitalFoundry
the music score is to loud for me. Sadly it annoys me. Nevertheless great video as always!
LOL the antenna clipping at 6:02 is awfully magic
John makes the best DF-videos.
Why is it so hard for the XBOX to hit 1080p on so many (multiplatform) games? Explain, DF!
The PS4 doesn't even hold 1080p in this game (dynamic res). This is a very demanding engine. Keep in mind that the 2015 demo ran at 900p on PS4 and 720p (around there) on Xbox One. They've done a great job considering the demands of this title.
Lower clocked GPU and less memory bandwidth. Basically, it's a weaker console in most scenarios.
smokebomb.exe because it's got crap hardware inside it... My PC's GPU is about 7 times more powerful...
You guys deserve many more subscribers, great job as always!
Great analysis once more, John! Can't wait for you to try out the new PS4 Pro patch when it will come out 😎
The part where you showed notics on the rock with his legs on uneven surface. Most games did that and started as early as the N64. OoT did it.
I'm playing this game all these years later first time In preparation for 16
This is the only reason I wanna buy PS4 for this game it looks amazing they really pushed the GPU graphics on that video card
Amazing video and really good points !
