You know it`s a John Linneman video also when in a 100 hours game that offer spot on perfect frame pacing perfection during 98 hours, he spends 80% of the video talking about those 2 hours (the sum of brief moments here and there) where sporadic problems no average user would normally catch appear. Big RPGs that slow down if you leave the game in sleep mode for a long time are nothing new, the worst offender being Skyrim on PS (including the PRO) in that video however they said they just played a little bit and that so far the frame rate "was holding" (wow, they knew it was bad!).
As I don`t like to waste precious energy, I use power save mode, and that problem never pops up.
Needless to say this game on the X looks incredible O_O
In all fairness, the One X does have some good improvements in detail and great performance. No matter which platform you play, however, you’re gonna get a very gorgeous game no matter what and the devs have been struggling optimizing this game since the demos came out lol.
I don't get why they add even more visual effects when the game can't even hit 30FPS...

Because cpu is so crappy. 4K is the only option to sell this new consoles.
No 2k should have been, but they know how to get people to buy anything today. All they have to do is flash shiny in peoples faces, and they go around yelling 4k, and don't even know why... 4k only deal with resolution, and really only matters on huge screen TVs 50+ inch. These consoles are not 4k consoles, bit powerful 2k and 1080p consoles. This is why I play 1080p only on my pro.

just look at how many 60fps titles that look way better than this there are around. i wish every dev would just target 60fps and be done with it. some day...
at least there are more of those this gen (xbox one and ps4) than the previous one (xbox 360 and ps3). hopefully this trend continues.
HDR and 4K for this game is amazing. the pc version gonna be sick with that superb grass they added!
this is a dissapointing patch and its square enix's fault, they did nothing to optimize the game and try to get it to run well on xbox or ps4. On the high mode they just let the resolution run loose. On the lite mode they just let the framerate run loose, and on steady mode they just cap both resolution and framerate. that is just lazy and dissapointing.

Crap hardware yes, but does much better than a shit pc cpu thats clocked at the same frequency. This is definetly bad optimization and there is no debate, since it runs better on the pro in certain areas but not on the X.
I can see that. Their new engine is great, but it seems to still be a work in progress. Apparently they are using a different engine for FF7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 because of this.

You don't have to hold the trigger to lock on. You can click the right stick while locking on to toggle the lock on. I can't believe you didn't know this.

Nox210 yes it does look better. I have a 1080ti but pc games don’t really do hdr so they do look better. My friend is also a pc gamer and he came round last weekend and his jaw dropped on gears 4 and halo 5. The x is a great console

For the Lock-on bit, if you first press the right bumper then hit the R3 (Press right stick) you can get the lock on to stick and be free to move around locked on to a target without holding any buttons... saying that though once you warp strike on to the target and you either "Break" something or topple them into a "vulnerable" state, the hard lock goes away again

@digitalfoundry you do not have to hold the bumper or R1 to lock on in FFXV, you can just press both the bumper/R1 + the stick button and it will lock on to that enemy without you having to hold...

I'd be curious to see how this game handles in backwards compatibility with Series X and PS5.
The game plays at a locked 60fps in the Lite mode.
Noticed something that wasn't mentioned. It seems they've extended out the screen space reflections on the water. On the PS4 version, you can quite easily tell that the effect is cut off on the outer margins of the screen. Looks like here they've extended that out a bit, although it seems not all the way to the edge. Can't tell for sure though.
That's the first time I've ever heard anyone mention the bad bumper buttons on the Xbox One controller. It's a good pad overall, but I've always found those buttons to be very stiff, and just don't feel great to use. Find it strange that gets overlooked by so many people.
This game will probably also run like poop on desktop GPU as well when it comes to PC.
Edit: I'm talking about Optimization here. Not about "PC being slower".

Optimisation will be bad, can almost guarantee that... But with brute force my i5 and 1080 Ti will probably get it at 1440p 60FPS.
I really wished that they'd offer a 60fps mode for Pro and 1X. At the very least the 1X should be able to hit that, considering how much more powerful it is from the base model. Give people like me who don't have a 4k set up a reason to upgrade.
I've not seen these drops in framerate one One X, maybe they've patched since this. Seems to (on "high" performance mode) stay at a steady 30 fps.
On holding the bumper to target: on PS4, if you want to target an enemy without having to constantly hold the target bumper, you can click in the right stick to lock the camera on the target while holding the bumper, let go, and it should remain targeted. Don't know if the same action applies across consoles, but that minor point is a thing addressed within the game (not very intuitively, albeit)

I think HDR is beautiful and is the next step in gaming graphics wise. Photo-realism is great, but HDR just makes everything so much more alive.
Microsoft advertises the X as "true" 4K console, but you will see next year most demanting games wont be able to hold 4K resolution. It's a PS4 pro version 2. Just wait for next gen consoles.
Games start to get the point where GTX1080TI can't hold 4K also SE confirm GTX1080TI can't run FFXV 60fps at 4K.
2 years later, in 2020, we are on the cusp of the Xbox Series X (and PS5) release. And I look forward to replaying this game on the Series X. Been waiting patiently for the next console before replaying this game and the time is nearly here.

This game was made on high end computers and was very hard to run on both systems, I think next years pc release will be incredible.
I agree, high mode on Xbox One X is the way Final Fantasy XV should be played. The increased pixel count combined with Dolby atmos spatial audio make this a must play game on Xbox One X. It’s awesome!

actually it would handle 1440p 60fps fine most of the time. i had a rx480 and it had no problem running most games 1440p 80fps (my screen is overclocked to 80hz).

Like almost every single game shown for the Xbox X is Dynamic 4K dipping below 4K, and frames all over the place, either dipping below 30fps, or dipping below 60fps.. "Uncompromised" 4K machine my as*. Still the best out of the consoles no doubt, but people really over hyped this thing.
You don't actually have to hold to stay locked on, if you click the right stick while locking on, it will stay locked on. It says this in the tutorial.
I played the game on my ps4 pro i tried it then on my one X I clearley saw the difference the one X version is much much sharper

seriously PS5 and new Xbox better focus on 1080p & 60fps over 4k
it's only way harder if they keep using tablet cpus with 2005 frequencies. the cpu is what kills these consoles. the next gen is going to stomp this one when it comes out using a ryzen-based cpu.
heck if they bumped the frequency to 3.2~3.4ghz instead of 2.3(?) they could just seamlessly double fps in all games. but that was pointless since it would make it harder to develop "backwards compatible" games to the base consoles, and the ps4 pro would also be targeted and that has a slow cpu too. this needed to be a full generational jump, no just a refresh.
Hhm, with all that being said. It sounds like Microsoft and Sony have a lot of work cut out for them with their next console. Do they prioritize 4K or give options with resolution/frame rate? They are going to have to do this with cost in mind.
+Hessey 1080p60 is obviously harder to achieve than checkerboarded or dynamic 4k30 for consoles with weak CPUs, but if you're talking about true 2160p30 at high/ultra settings, that's a different story. Good 1080p60 cards like the 1060 will struggle with a solid 2160p30 in a lot of games unless you turn down settings and tweak it so much that ultra settings in 1080p or 1440p with better framerates can be preferable. With a configuration of a decent CPU and GPU, hitting 1080p60 is both easy and affordable to do on PC, but consoles don't have the luxury of that form factor, and suffer for their APU solutions with the poorly specced laptop CPUs. And as you can see, it doesn't hurt only the 60 fps target, but also a solid 30 fps with good, stable frametimes.
And I think you'll be disappointed if you expect Sony and Microsoft to prioritize good framerates at 1080p over nice visuals in 4k with OKish 30 fps in the next gen. You're more likely to see Nintendo push for 1080p60, to be honest, as they've always been lagging a generation behind in resolution since the Wii, but still deliver a solid 60 fps experience more often despite their weak hardware. 4k TVs is already becoming the norm, and more and more of our gadgets will utilize it; TV decoders, stream boxes, UHD bluray players, consoles, and HTPCs. What I think we'll be getting in the next gen is a better 2160p target with higher settings and hopefully a more stable 30 fps, with all the latest tech in TVs we might have, like a better, more standardized HDR and higher color depth.
Opposite to those this gen consoles they will have a decent CPU, which will make higher framerates more likely. That said, developers usually go for higher fidelity instead of framerate. For most games 30 fps is totally fine, as long as they are stable. Only racing, fighting games and twitch shooters "need" 60 fps.

You don’t need to hold the R1/RB button down to lock on, if you click the right stick down whilst pressing R1/RB then you can let go of the button and it’ll stay locked on.

I think it will be great on PC. Games that work awful on consoles actually somehow work like a charm on PC. Bad PC ports usually have stable console counterparts (Arkham knight for example). And, bad console games usually have great PC counterparts lol (Just cause 3 for example).
Naldery the game actually isn't THAT bad on console. I owned on the PS4 Pro and the lite mode performed very well and still looked very good. I bet with the shear power of higher end PC's it will do fine. The lengthy delay is also a good indication they are doing it up right. I will say, though, some of the previous FF ports on PC have been fairly lackluster.
How do you figure this when it wont be relying on the awful Jaguar CPUs. I'm just crossing my fings I can run it Maxxed out in 1080p

I found a bug in the november patch, if you played through the entire game you'll know the giant door that is locked in fort zegnautus you know the door prompto unlocks? Yeah, for me that door disappeared that door did not exist the door only existed when the cutscene of Prompto opening the door happened. It was so weird and it's the first time I encountered a glitch since 2016

Wait... FFXV isn't on PC yet? If not, then this is exactly why I would never invest in one. Having to wait this long to play a game like FFXV would be a nightmare. It's an absolute must day 1 experience kind of game.

Michael it is 1000000% the CPU, it's utter garbage and is a severe bottleneck in the system, we're talking about the SAME CPU that bottlenecks even the normal PS4 GPU, just a few hundred mhz faster. Lol
It has a theoretical max threshold of 147 Gflops. It's an "8-core" Chip running at 2.3Ghz.
My CPU is running a cheap $200 R5 1600. At 3.7Ghz, 6 cores, 12 threads (with SMT/HT cores being FAR weaker than physical)? over 360 Gflops aka, over 2x the performance of the "worlds most powerful console."
That shit CPU is the core reason a LOT of games on consoles can only run at 30FPS, the CPU lags behind everything else. Infact, it's so shit, the Xbox 360 and PS3 CPU is BARELY behind. Those consoles are well over TEN years old.

All multiplatform games are better on PC, so a superior experience is to be expected if you have the right hardware for the task. Final Fantasy XIII was one of the laziest PC ports ever and it looks and runs WAY better than the PS3/x360 versions.
Most broken PC ports are still superior than their console counterpart. You won't see FFXV running at 23fps on any PC.

Sergio Hernandez uhm no the higher settings had horrible frame pacing issues and then they patched the light version with a unlocked framerate which was horrible cause it jumped from 30-43. So must have been my tv lol

Tabata is a PC enthusiast and his team is putting a lot of love in the PC version, He went as far as calling it the "Definitive" experience of the game.

FFIX will be its best on PC. Thats why it took them 1 year in a half for PC port.
Not sure if it will be "definitive", with low res textures, lower draw distance for objects and shadows alike. I watched a clip of the PC version, during a battle, and noticed the mob boss they were attacking had a lower res skin, which looked rather jarring, considering the PC version is meant to be sporting 4k res textures.
I'd call it definitive if it was a massive night and day difference between the console versions on PC. Huge draw distance for shadows and objects, 4k textures for absolutely everything, no sub 1080p textures scattered around either.

This game has always had horrible patches and optimisations and its no different here. That's quite unfortunate. A genuine good game ruined by this... I'll definitely pass on this one.

The fact that they still haven't fixed high mode proves you right. As far as I know, that mode runs well on PS4 but that damn frame pacing makes it look atrocious.
I feel like they've improved the frame pacing on base PS4... either that or I just haven't played enough recently... If it was optimised for 60fps that would be amazing. The PC version will be a beauty but would probably melt all the units in my house :'- (

Playing WWII in 4K/60 with HDR was quite impressive indeed. Nearly creamed my pants, even.
Then again I'm not a PC guy so it was my first experience. Going from the launch Xbox One to One X was night and day for me.

Most one x games are 30 fps with frame drops; the 60 fps ones are few and far between, and none of them are a locked 60, always dropping to mid-50s with any combat scene. Thanks to the weak netbook jaguar CPU. Heck, I was trying to play need for speed payback on the one x, and the juddery 30 fps was awful. AC:Origins, shadow of war all these 28 fps games on the one x ughh. Even a 3 and a half year old mid-range GTX 970 PC plays these games at 1080p 60 fps high quality on PC.

Im being realisitic, Its a mobile chip so I understand if they cant get it on there. However Im glad theyre still trying, having this game on a portable device would make 2017 a great leap for technology

From a huge fan of FFXV and playing on Xbox one, i'm hyped to buy XoneX. The game on standard Xbox has way lower graphics and it frustrated me sometimes, now on XoneX i can finally play it like it should be.
I knew there was someone who bought the game on X1. The sales were like 8:1 in favor of PS4 lol. Enjoy the 21 fps.

It looks like your HDR on your PS4 Pro wasn't fully implemented which is a bug that happens on the PS4 any time you turn the TV off and on. You have to go in and actually put your settings into Full and turn HDR off and back on as well as the color settings. You can tell by the way you can't see the detail on Nocits' jacket.

the first patches for the pro were thrash pretty much , so i'm quite positive, they will chnge all of these minor issues...
it's funny to see that with all the Final fantasy released on PS4 who are coming to xbox one family , FF VII, FFXIV, FFXII zodiac, FF world Maxima , FF VII remake etc... ) the One X will be the best place to play FF games, specially when u know that FF XIII , XIII-2, and XIII-3 are coming this week on Backwards compatibility with each an Xbox one enhanced patch along the way , Square enix seems to have shake hands with Microsoft again , and i really think it's for the better of all players.. now we need dragon quest lol, i already got it on PS4 pro, but like all previous titles, i will buy them again on One X

Completely agree with the lock-on using the bumper. It's just not comfortable to have to hold my finger up that high for long periods of time. And I do use my Elite to fix the problem.

Lazy developers? Or shitty engine? I beat this game on PS4 Pro while regularly switching between high and steady depending on the area as it became unplayable at parts. PQ was horrible, even in high mode with blurry, pixelated textures through out. This game should have used Unreal Engine 3/4! Would have looked and performed better in my opinion. With that said, I will not buy this game again on any platform as it's a tad long, backtracking, and the storyline is sloppy with no happy ending.
On the flipside, if I've had waited I would have purchased the XB1X, cleaner presentation but with bugs that can be ironed out.
Some games that don't work well on consoles actually turn out to be surprisingly good on PC. Some engines work well on PC, so this may be one of those games.
