You should know that he took a strong stance on Civil Rights as well. He wouldn't play if the audience was segregated. (The Beatles took the same stance.)
And, if I remember correctly, he was killed before “A Change is Gonna Come” made it big. It became one of the anthem’s to the Civil Rights Movement.” Its a tragedy that he never saw the impact that “A Change...” has on our nation!!!
Trisha Gorrell Wow, that’s quite a connection. Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust is my favourite jazz tune. And to think that Georgia on my Mind was written and composed in 1930.
I love the respect you and your brother show its good to see young people doing positive things music of any kind is good for the soul Keep doing what you're doing God Bless You May The Lord Keep You Well And Safe
I live in Georgia and every time you drive into the state, the sign reads “we’re glad Georgia was on your mind”.... nothing makes you feel like you are home more than seeing that sign thanks to Ray Charles!
It was the 2001 World Series game 2 at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, Arizona. Diamondbacks vs Yankees. 2 months after 9/11 happened. One of the greatest, most emotional sporting events I’ve ever seen.
I agree. ❤️ We still use Ray Charles’s America the Beautiful at Army retirement ceremonies. It still brings an emotional reaction every time. I retired six years ago, and I tear up whenever I hear this at any ceremonies.
You earn much respect by giving respect where due. Congrats, my young friend. You have earned my respect for your choice of music to react to. I look forward to seeing you react to many other great songs as your channel grows.
Excellent request! I danced with my daddy at our wedding 22 years ago to Armstrong's What A Wonderful World ! Please do a reaction of this song. I think you will love it
The Only time in my life I ever had front row center seats to a concert..!! 1986 in Reno Nevada... He played for 3 hours with 2 fifteen minutes intermission breaks to change his back up. The 1st session was just Ray and his piano... The 2nd session was the Ray Charles Trio that was Ray on piano with a drummer and a guy on a stand up bass... The 3rd and final session was Ray with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and his daughters " The Raelettes " who were the back up singers..!! I will never forget that night..!!! I have never had such a Good Time at a concert than being right up front for Brother Ray..!!!
Otis Redding young sir. He's the greatest in my opine, tons of greats, but his version of "A CHange is Gonna Come" is....just....damn. It moves me every time.
Gives me chills. I can't believe more people don't know it. Also remember Willie did Georgia, I think on Stardust.... My parents used to play that record (on tape) on road trips, still want to listen to those songs on long car rides.
Here’s the thing: I don’t even really like music all that much, but I stumbled onto your channel and have spent the entire evening watching you react to all the songs of my youth. Your passion and appreciation for songs and artists you’ve never heard of filled me with joy. I teared up just watching you revel in your love of good music, and I watched your channel get 10 new subscribers during that time, one of them was me.
Jeane DeVries hard to explain. I do have songs that I like but I never go out of my way to listen to music. People that I know in real life don’t get it either. I usually prefer audiobooks and podcasts.
I was reading a CNN News article online yesterday and came across one about the twins, and their love of classic music from an era where music was an element of wonderful storytelling with meaningful life experiences. I am so glad I came across your channel today to take us back to when art was perfected through a personal story, and great harmonies. You my dear one have an ear, and appreciation for great music from all genres. You just got a new subscriber.
I agree. I remember the day I bought the 45. I remember where I went afterwards but couldn't wait to get back home to play it over and over. I was a teen.
It makes me cry just watching him listening to the song. Such a refreshing moment, makes you hear the song as if you were yourself discovering it for the first time. Waouh !
You melted me when you cried during Georgia. Officially my favorite new channel. You and your bro are awesome and I love you are discovering our music from our younger days. Total bangers.
Imagine being on an airplane with your battles after a year-long deployment to Iraq and as the plane enters the state of Georgia the pilot announces we will be landing in 20 min at Hunter Army Airfield and this song comes on over the intercom....
I was lucky enough to see Ray in person. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't what I saw that night. Warm, comfortable, open. It was almost like he had invited you into his living room sharing some time with you. The warm informality presented like that, talking in the middle of songs, just like he was enjoying the time performing. Don't know if was an act but he really captured me.
We saw him live when I was pregnant, and have told our daughter her whole life Ray Charles was her first concert. It was important to her dad and me to expose her to great live music, and we knew we were off on the right foot starting with him. He's definitely one of the best.
In my mind, the greatest song about a state ever written. If this song makes you tear up, imagine how you feel if you're from Georgia. Ray Charles and Sam Cooke were the first people to use gospel melodies and rhythms in popular music. Later Ray had a more country feel, Sam is the father of soul music. Sam however was the first black artist to own the publishing rights to his music making him the first to get paid every time it was played anywhere. Some think he was killed for those rights. The song "Georgia" was written by Hoagy Carmichael, who wrote the music for the great song "Stardust". Try Nat King Cole's version of that song. Try "Hit The Road Jack", "I Can't Stop Loving You", "What I Say","Let's Go Get Stoned", "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So", and "Drown In My Own Tears" by Ray Charles.
Ray did a switch to country, shocked people. He was a genius at that like everything else, and then I think he broadened out in other ways, but kept up the jazz/blues as well.
I love that you listen to the classics because these songs are lost in this generation nowadays....I love your enthusiasm on these songs....You must have been from another time and it's channeling through in the present! Love watching your videos...
"Georgia on My Mind" is the official State of Georgia song. Look up the video showing Ray Charles playing the song in a joint session of Georgia's State Legislature. Awesome 😊
I love, love, love you and your journey through so many of my most favorite songs ever.. songs I was loving from long before you were born.. Today Auckland, New Zealand went in to lockdown again and I’m looking at a second stint of being isolated on my own and earlier I was feeling stressed and sad but here I am at 3am watching so many of your videos with the biggest smile on my face.. Thank you. ❤️ PS: I’ve got so many Bangers I want to send you..!
I'm a 62 year old white women who loves loves loves music. Watching you experience and have a visceral reaction to the music I grew up with and love is incredible and heartening. That you are open to all genres of music and feel the music like I do means so much keep on doing what you're doing. I happened upon your videos at 3:00 pm today and it's now 9:10 pm and I haven't stopped watching.
I enjoy your channel and enjoy going on this journey with you. I grew up on the classics and love seeing the younger generation reactions when the hear it for the first time. Keep up the good work young man.
Try "Hit The Road Jack," "What'd I Say," "Mess Around," "Unchain My Heart," "Mary Ann," "Smack Dab In The Middle," "Busted," "That Lucky Old Sun," "Makin' Whoopee" and "Don't Set Me Free."
This song was one of my dad's favorites. I always think of him when I hear it. Thanks for playing it, as I've been missing my Dad more than usual lately.
The Man had soul, there is just so much to say about him he was one of a kind and I miss him and he just brings tears to my eyes. This song means so much more than you think. During the civil Rights movement' when he went to Georgia and he was doing the tour that was bad can't remember what they called it, was were African American group toured the US. He refused to do the concert in Georgia so they banned him for Georgia for life and then they apologized many many years later and they made Georgia on my mind the official song for Georgia. and he got apologize to and he got a plaque and it was so wonderful and beautiful for him and he did the right thing so many years ago. oh that's a must see movie because he was a wonderful man and that's a very deep story an emotional story and I just told you some of the story. If you're disabled and you don't make a lot of money doesn't make you a failure!!!! He had a rough time with drugs but kicked it. He is and always will be a Legend.
Living in Georgia, the PBS station used to end their night every night playing this and nearly every night I would end up listening to it...even if I wasn't watching the program before it.
I just discovered your channel tonight and I am binge watching. I absolutely LOVE not only the willingness to seek out music from different genres( and generations) but your honest reactions to (and appreciation of) the way the music makes you FEEL. ...THAT is the whole point of music, isn't it? To evoke an emotion?....Also, I have noticed from the comments, the DIVERSITY of listeners is astonishing. Good work. Keep it up!
I love seeing how excited you are about Ray. I saw him so long ago, when I was younger than you are. And I’m old. His voice was just incredible. Finding your channel has been such a gift. Your love of music and your excitement about hearing new music is awesome. You have sure made this miserable time so much better. Keep it up!
I love your reactions, reminds me of my nephew when I play my momma's music. Due to the current state of the country I would suggest Nina Simone Mississippi Got Damn( written after the assassination of Medgar Evers), Sam Cooke A Change is gonna come (Written After a conversation with Malcom X and Mohammed Ali), and Finally Billie Holiday's Rendition of Strange Fruit.
I’m from Carolina. North Carolina to be exact. Even though our states are very similar due to being southern states. We’re totally two different states. And I always loved when I was in Georgia. Now I’m in California, and things are different over here. But I’ll never forget the south good or bad, it’s history of my life I will never erase.
You're the cutest, love when you're excited! ADORBS 💖 Try "Smokestack Lightning" by Howling Wolf! He was in the same era as Ray. And he was on Chess Records like a lot of the greats were!
I admire your willingness to listen to music that’s new to you and share your honest reactions. You’re helping so many people open their minds and ears and know the joy of our amazing musical heritage.
"Georgia OMM" came out when I was in high school. I would be half awake all night with my hand on the tuner on the radio. It would play on one station and I'd keep tuning til I found it again. It was constant and it was contagiously delicious. Ultimate!
Watching you react to the music is giving me new appreciation and making me fall in love again with music I've loved for years. It's so obvious that you have an innate appreciation for music and connect with it on a deep level and it's beautiful to see! If you're ever looking for another direction to go, dive into some funk like Parliament Funkadelic or Curtis Mayfield, something like that! Or punk rock, which would be different but The Clash is one of the greatest bands of all time and I think you'd appreciate! Keep it up!
You should know that he took a strong stance on Civil Rights as well. He wouldn't play if the audience was segregated. (The Beatles took the same stance.)
Elvis, too. There were venues that didn't want to include his backup singers, Elvis would walk away.
So did Dusty Springfield. She was forced to leave South Africa for refusing to play for segregated audiences.
And the Rat Pack. Did not play if blacks not allowed.
Rolling Stones took similar stance.
The Beatles mentioned “ Georgia On Mind” in a pun on “Back In The USSR” .
This music won’t die as long as young people like you keep it alive. Bless you!
😍😍😍😍😍
❤ real talk
You got heart young man.. don’t ever lose it!
Amen 🙏
Real heart
💙
Classic dude singing a great song, and you got it all going on in the right place in your head. Music 🎼🎵 The Universal Language. Keep on kill in’ it 🎸
Seriously! People who appreciates any kind of music, really do love music. That’s all I have to say!
Sam Cooke - A Change is Gonna Come brings me to tears every time.
And, if I remember correctly, he was killed before “A Change is Gonna Come” made it big. It became one of the anthem’s to the Civil Rights Movement.” Its a tragedy that he never saw the impact that “A Change...” has on our nation!!!
Oooo Leila James version of A Change is Gonna Come makes me cry. Soooo good
Every. Time.
Got to react to that!!!!
Pleeeaase do "Change is gonna come" Sam Cook
Same here.
I'm an old white woman, and I began to weep as soon as I heard his voice...
I'm an old white women to my friend and I got little teary myself. Thinking back... His voice is pure silk
I am old white women as well love this review and the young man doing it!
Ditto! Oh you probably don't know what a ditto is do you?
Yes. The same here.
@@milionthemove Ditto oh that's how you spell it. I've been running all over utube from the grammar police all day....🚔
Same here. Grew up poor white in the 60's South, and when a TV show was featuring Ray Charles we knew it would be good. Truely a great voice.
My great-uncle, whom I never met, Stuart Gorrell, wrote the lyrics to this song. He was college roommates with Hoagy Carmichael.
Trisha Gorrell Wow, that’s quite a connection. Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust is my favourite jazz tune. And to think that Georgia on my Mind was written and composed in 1930.
❤️❤️❤️
And think how we're all blessed because of your family.......wow!
That is F#$&ing Awesome!
Trisha Gorrell And what a beautiful gift he gave humanity, writing this song. Thanks!
Try Louis Armstrong "what a Wonderful World" . He is actually a dual talent, trumpet player/singer.
Absolutely great recommendation!!
Yes please!
Yes!!! One of my favorites.
Always makes me cry.
Big yes!
My niece Georgia, age 5, is CONVINCED Ray Charles wrote this song for her and no one can tell her otherwise 😂
@Charmaine Cruz you leave that baby alone and let her live her best life it was written for her 😂😃
No arguments here 😂 we love that song! Just watched Ray for the upteenth time the other day!
And no one should ever tell her it wasn't. It was! ❤️
That's so beautiful lol.
That's the cutest thing I've heard in a long time 🌺🌸🌼 What a doll!
I'm a white grandmother and I love to watch you all when you hear what we grew up with.
There is NO music like the 50s and 60s. It's the BEST.
I love the respect you and your brother show its good to see young people doing positive things music of any kind is good for the soul Keep doing what you're doing God Bless You May The Lord Keep You Well And Safe
Shoot good tunes are good tunes
Emilie LaFave Your skin tone is irrelevant
Me too!
Same. But I’ve learned to love it all from my kids and grands.
You feel the pain in his voice. So nice to see genuine emotions from someone so young. Keep doing what you're doing young man
This song was declared the official State Song for the state of Georgia in 1979. I don't think any state has a more beautiful song.
I bet you're right man....
None at all brother
I live in Georgia and every time you drive into the state, the sign reads “we’re glad Georgia was on your mind”.... nothing makes you feel like you are home more than seeing that sign thanks to Ray Charles!
me too.. new to Georgia
Ray Charles did America the Beautiful like no other....Made me cry when I watched sing it for a game opener.... One of the greatest ever ❤
His version is the greatest.
It was the 2001 World Series game 2 at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, Arizona. Diamondbacks vs Yankees. 2 months after 9/11 happened. One of the greatest, most emotional sporting events I’ve ever seen.
So true!
I agree. ❤️ We still use Ray Charles’s America the Beautiful at Army retirement ceremonies. It still brings an emotional reaction every time. I retired six years ago, and I tear up whenever I hear this at any ceremonies.
I think it’s the one or the best if not best renditions
Every person in America needs to listen to “Strange Fruit “ by Billie Holliday, and the duet “Seven Spanish Angels “ by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson.
Yes, Billie Holiday and Diana Ross in Lady Sings the Blues. My life changed when I listened and watched it.
They did do 7 Spanish Angels with Ray & Willie. Mmmmm
Seven Spanish Angels is one of my favorite songs of all time. The video of them singing it live 2 weeks after recording it was epic.
Willie and Emmy Lou Harris's Seven Spanish Angels is worth a spin too!
You earn much respect by giving respect where due. Congrats, my young friend. You have earned my respect for your choice of music to react to. I look forward to seeing you react to many other great songs as your channel grows.
Amen!
Completely agree.....:)
The fact that you are so moved just with the first two lines of the song, means that you have the gift of getting music. Keep up the good work.
Ray Charles one of a kind, classic legend.
And he did a lot of different musical genres over his career too. I'd recommend my man checking out the movie Ray.
Take a listen to Louis Armstrong singing, "What a Wonderful World".
Israel Kamakawiwoʻole nailed it too!
Excellent request! I danced with my daddy at our wedding 22 years ago to Armstrong's What A Wonderful World ! Please do a reaction of this song. I think you will love it
Another vote for listening to "What A Wonderful World"
Yeeeeeeeees

Try Gladys Knight & The Pips “Midnight Train to Georgia” 🤎
One of the best songs ever.
I love that song
Also a classic!
My favourite song by Gladys Knight and the Pips.❤️

Unforgettable! Nat king cole/ with his daughter’s Natalie. The version with them together. Wow . I think that you would love it!
OH YESSSS, Nat King Cole had a voice as smooth as butter and ANYTHING by him is AMAZING!!!
Joe Tij you’re so lucky!
That had to have been an amazing experience!
Wow!! Lucky you😍😍😍😍
Otis Redding young sir. He's the greatest in my opine, tons of greats, but his version of "A CHange is Gonna Come" is....just....damn. It moves me every time.
Second Otis Redding.
Yes, yes, yes, please!!
Yes! Otis’s cover is the one that has me weeping!
Ray Charles and Willie Nelson - Seven Spanish Angels
My dad always played that record when I was growing up.
Im 27 and i say thats an awesome song. Reminds me of being at my gramps land in the country roads
That’s exactly what I said!! I love Seven Spanish Angels
We got this one single when i was child back then. I still like it.
their version is simply amazing.
Nice words coming from a very nice smile. 😊
You don’t like music?? All music?? How is that even possible?
Jeane DeVries hard to explain. I do have songs that I like but I never go out of my way to listen to music. People that I know in real life don’t get it either. I usually prefer audiobooks and podcasts.
Absolutely love that you are going back to these classic artists. Maybe some Louis Armstrong or Billie Holiday.
Big Mama Thornton...
Etta James....❤❤
'Billie Holiday - Strange fruit' is really something else
God Bless the Child
Mavis Staples!
"Like opening a present for Christmas!!" Sure was... One of your best I've seen so far!! I'm binging your channel like CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! LOVE this!!!
You have an incredible ear and very sophisticated appreciation of music.
He does. Wow.
It gives me chills down my spine and brings tears to my eyes even after hearing it hundreds of times!
I agree. I remember the day I bought the 45. I remember where I went afterwards but couldn't wait to get back home to play it over and over. I was a teen.
Johhne Kochheiser, exactly!
Listen to “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Amazing song that never fails to give me chills.
Love your raw emotion and appreciation for the man who owns "Georgia!"
That's it exactly! He's not afraid to show his emotions from joy to tears.
It makes me cry just watching him listening to the song. Such a refreshing moment, makes you hear the song as if you were yourself discovering it for the first time. Waouh !
If this song touches your emotions, try "You Don't Know Me." It is just wonderful and Ray Charles always puts his whole being into this song.
You melted me when you cried during Georgia. Officially my favorite new channel. You and your bro are awesome and I love you are discovering our music from our younger days. Total bangers.
I just found your channel, and I’ve been binge watching! You are a joy to watch. Love hearing your reaction to all of this great music.

Wow. Wonderful!

No place like home
I love that you comprehend the gravity of the greats!

Good advice, “Don’t give up.... even if you have a disability or.... go after your goals...” “You have to respect greatness when you see it.”
My, my my. You do have an old soul young man. I absolutely love it! Don't ever lose that! The wonder of music is amazing with how it affects us all.
Definitely check out Sam Cooke! A few to try - That’s Where It’s At, Bring It On Home To Me, or A Change Is Gonna Come
I love Sam Cooke 😍
Didn't Sam's daddy shoot him🤔😢
@@linnymaemullins3319 No. The controversy around Sam's death remains to this day. That said no member of Sam's family ha anything to do with it.
I love that you listen to the classics because these songs are lost in this generation nowadays....I love your enthusiasm on these songs....You must have been from another time and it's channeling through in the present! Love watching your videos...
I love that you show and share your emotions when listening to these Golden Oldies.
Wow you both are heaven-sent.

Ray Charles voice is timeless.
Listen to anything by Patsy Cline, especially "Crazy."

Patsy Cline reaction! I hope soon!
Ray Charles music makes the heart melt.

"Hit the road Jack"
"I gotta woman" is pretty damn good too, many a party has started with that tune.
Yes, to both of these!
If you want to hear a classic old fashioned break up song in which the woman is very mad and frustrated with her man listen to "Hit the Road Jack"

I grew up in Georgia. They used to play this every morning over the intercom after announcements and the pledge! Made me love music as much as you do!
Bless you for appreciating such greatness in your moving understanding of the lyrics and his lovely voice

Your love of music and your excitement about hearing new music is awesome. You have sure made this miserable time so much better. Keep it up!
Makes this Georgia Girl tear up every time!
I feel ya!😍
one of the most heartfelt reactions that I may have ever seen. I love when you youngsters discover the classics. Keep up the good work.
Excellent suggestions
I love the fact that watching your reaction brought tears to MY eyes..... I am so glad that you have gone on this venture to explore music.
I love your physical reactions to music. You act out what I am feeling in my heart. :) Thanks.
ADORBS 💖
Try "Smokestack Lightning" by Howling Wolf! He was in the same era as Ray. And he was on Chess Records like a lot of the greats were!
Thank you for being real and out there with your reactions. Watching you enjoy this song gave me a smile.
Ray is legendary! Love this!
Ultimate!
I also fell asleep to the radio as a child. Loved the old romantic songs like I Only Have Eyes for You and You Belong to Me.
Do We are the World. Quincey Jones directed it, in 1985.
Thank you for your heart of gold.
Keep it up!
Your reaction brought tears to my eyes. Not everyone gets chills when they hear music like this. 💕 Ray Charles, there is no one like him.
Born, raised and still living in the Atlanta area...and that song grips my heart every time. 🍑❤
Ray’s version of America The Beautiful never fails to make me cry. ❤️
