This trip was so insane😂😅 We’ll definitely have to try motocamping again just maybe not so intense
Definitely still in tents, but not as intense…see wut I did dere?? 👀😂
😂🏕️🤘🏻
Going camping you always plan to leave early in the morning then you end up leaving at sunset, don't sweat it happens to me like...every time.
It happens. I wouldn't have minded that in the barn, but I've been in a collapsing tent in similar weather, and that was uncomfortable. You got a heck of a bad first experience.
Dork in the Road had a video just recently that presented something that I love: do you ride to camp, or camp to ride? From your willingness to poke around and look at ducks and enjoy a meal, it sounds like you might be "camp to ride" people: camping is just a practical aspect to staying on the road and enjoying your time doing that, be it eating up miles or slow riding through interesting small towns and visiting places.
City boyyy…CITY BOYYYYY!
like 2 kids going outside for the first time :))
I like this dude but I lost it when they pulled their tent into the barn lol.
A bad trip makes a good story !!! Happy you lived to tell us all about it ! It was hilarious 😂 😂😂😂
what an adventure!!! i appreciate the levels of stress you both faced. mad respect to both of you for staying calm and pushing through. i know alot of people who wouldve called a buddy or family member or an uber and checked out. you two finished. respect.
Remembered you posting about this on IG and never saw it being uploaded. Glad you did even if it didn't go to plan 😆. Still makes a great story even if it wasn't fun at the time 🤙
It’s a great story for sure! 😂 I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be able to post it, just based on how scattered the footage became the crazier things got. Wasn’t sure how to make the video make sense. But I’m really pleased with how the voiceovers worked for telling the story and still being able to show it all! Such a wild weekend 😅
The secret my man is public grounds. Like state parks. Well secret 1,because secret 2 is if it feels like the beginning of a bad horror movie, then the fun goes right out the window.
Now this is an accurate representation of moto camping 😁. Type 2 fun.
Yea I don’t know how all these influencers make motocamping seem so easy and fun! 😂😂😂
@@LifeOfBurchWhen the camera is off they ride to a hotel.
I'm glad you released this footage man! I'm also glad you both made it through that trip safely. I feel it's a much more accurate representation of what a lot of people go through with moto camping lol. I'm with you guys though. I would do it with a cabin or something to stay in. I'm sure it was still an experience that taught you both a lot.
I’m super glad I was able to find a way to put this out finally! It was so chaotic that I wasn’t sure I’d ever find a way to make the footage make sense in a video lol but this is definitely the “what they don’t show you” side of things. Moto camping always looks so easy and fun…but that was NOT the case here 😂 We can’t wait to get back out there with all the lessons learned though! 🙌🏻🏕️
Dude such a great video one of my favorites if I could like 2 times I would. Can’t wait to see more of these 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Glad you finally released this. 1000% worth the wait. Killing it with the storytelling lately my dude. Sorry about how the first experience went though.
Thanks dude!! I’m so happy with how my creativity and storytelling has been able to come out lately! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Safe to say if shit ever hits the fan you two are definitely at the bottom of the food chain😂😂😂
A good tent and an air mattress are life changing.
You guys are definitely cityfolk. Mr Haney's Green Acres campground sure sucked you in.
I had camped for decades before 1st motocamping...but even then I motocamped first time at a Bike Resort where you camp in the lawns 50 yds from the paved lot, you have a restaurant with rooms over if ground sleeping isn't going well, there is lighting, the turf is level, there's bathrooms and a shower house, and there is a row of $70 one room cabins (at that time) JIC. I slept under a tarp tied to the bike.
It rained my first time too but not as bad... Rain doesn't bother me much as I grew up with hurricanes every 2 or 3 years...and worse thunderstorms every other day in the summer.
Next camping was a wilderness primitive but developed USFS campsite...then free sites on TVA lakes.
I'd recommend the following:
Pack less...that was too much stuff for a couple and a night or two.
Go to a government or commercial simple campground where you just easy ride in. Avoid the RV campgrounds as you'll be surrounded by generators and kids partying all night.
As to your gravel road riding...you must not be used to that at all. My private road is much like that but steeper...and occasionally a small creek crossing after a strong rain.
I can do it on a CB250 with street tires which I use for local errand riding to save gas.
The boy pitched a tent! 😅
😳😳😳
When you guys are older the story will get better. The storm bigger and that hill will be huge. 😂 getting to do things like this as a couple will keep it interesting. We’re in 50’s and 60 and still do it. Riding and camping that is. 😮
Holy poor planning, lots of lessons to be learned.
Great videos as always! This is what camping is all about, roughing it! Idk why but that whole camping in the barn while it’s storming sounds like a vibe lol. Looking forward to a part two🤘🏼
Looks like an awesome time honestly lol.
Cute video
Failure to plan is planning to fail! LOL. Who goes camping when they've never even set their tent up before and then when they are late leaving, goes ahead and leaves?! Sounds like something I would do. 🤣 Seriously tho, I have found that things like this are what make my motorcycle trips more fun! I just try to remember that I will be fine, and that I can take whatever comes my way. If you keep a positive attitude and laugh at things like everything that happened, life is much more pleasant in general. 😉
Just discovered your channel yesterday or day before and I am really enjoying it. I have been thinking of downsizing to a Rebel 1100 as my current bike is a bit bigger (HD Softail Heritage) and there are many times when I wish I had one a bit smaller. So I have been devouring videos about them.
Don't sweat it, moto camping takes practice and it's super fun once you get a hang of it. Don't discourage yourself too fast from certain things just because it didn't work out the "first" time. 🙂
Thing is to start with some easy spots. Challenges are part of camping. Key is to not panic and act accordingly - and for that you need practice and good planning. Things take time. You'll learn what to pack and not to pack, how to cook while camping (mini gas stoves are great for that), what gear you need to shelter yourself (tarps, lines). I highly recommend camps near lakes with proper sanitation - these are great places to start.
Most importantly - cheers to you guys and I wish you a great motocycling season! ✌😎
Thanks so much dude!! We definitely can’t wait to give it another shot with all the lessons we learned on our first go! 😎🤘🏻
You know what... that is a story you will be telling your kids ands grandkids someday. It will be hilarious to tell and you will think back and not want to change a thing about it. Making memories is what those little trips are all about.
Great video Burch !!! 🤙🏽
Have a look at some of the videos of this years dragon rally in Wales. It'll make you feel better!
That looks like so much fun, besides the time constraints this seems like the best time
0:35 ah sweet, it's THAT video that's been teased about.
Noicce, thnx [for posting and editing it, Burch] can't wait to see it.
"EVERY" bike is an adventure bike. ha ha ha... Glad that you posted this man. You and the lady made a memory. In a few years you will look back and laugh when you talk about this.
Can’t wait for the next motocamping vid lol
Killarney House is the best! Actually had brunch there this morning. You don’t have to worry about bears, but should probably worry about copperheads 😂
Seriously the most heinous things make the trips more memorable. Our last trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway on our bikes with my parents was a mess. Hot rain in Roanoke, VA and my husband locked his Harley keys IN the truck with all of our warmer jackets. In Blowing Rock, NC we were able to drill out the lock. While riding in the raid to Blowing rock, my dad handed my mom his glasses to hold and she lost them along the road somewhere. We realized while we were drilling the trunk lock that my husbands rear tire was wearinf BAD on the left side. The rest of the trip to Maggie Vally, NC and the week there was wonderful. The tire was bald by then on the left side. There had been a rock slide on the parkway after we had come down so we had to take a detour at one point. Between Blowing Rock and Roanoke we stopped at a brand new dollar general in Ennice, NC just south of the VA border for a drink and a break. Pulling out of the parking lot, mom and dad’s bike shut off and never started again. The guys tried to trouble shoot some things. The moral of the story, y'all, is to HAVE TOWING ON
YOUR VEHICLES. They didn't. The Indian dealer in Roanoke wouldn't come get it because it wouldn't fit on their trailer. Uhaul didn't have a big enough trailer for it and it's a trike so you couldn't rent a box truck because the ramp wouldn't be wide enough. I ended up calling a local tow company to at least haul it the 105 miles to the already paid for hotel in Roanoke. The next morning, moms friend and her husband were coming to get it on their trailer and take it and then home. Still with me? We're not done yet folks! They got to the light to turn off to the hotel where we were and got into a tender bender! We got the traller queen loaded up finally and left the hotel super late at 3PM. We had the intentions of following them home on the interstate, but if you've even ridden you KNOW the interstate on a bike is miserable. We stopped around 6 to eat dinner in Lewisburg, WV and we decided there was no way we could continue the interstate. We parted ways for them to go interstate and we would go back roads and didn't think it through that it was almost dark and we were 3 hours from home and didn't grab our chaps or anything. We rode 91 miles from Lewisburg to Huttonsville and were frozen. We had to stop and we decided that instead of riding the remaining 80 miles home that we would ride the 38 miles to our cabin instead and stay there overnight. We had no clothes but what we had on, but there was hot water for a shower and a good nights sleep. So we grabbed a few donuts in Huttonsville to have for breakfast and pushed on. We snuggled in for a movie and some hot tea that night and woke refreshed and WARM and headed home FINALLY. After we got home, a day late, the Indian was hauled to the house and was pulled up the driveway with the four wheeler and is now safely in our garage. We still laugh about everything and it’s one of the most memorable!
Love it. Ultimate character building. Camping is not a get up a go type thing. TONS of planning goes into your first few trips until you get a system down. I have found that you want to try to get to where you are going by 5pm. That gives you time to setup before the dark rolls in. Also, next setup on an empty stomach. Make sure you've had food ahead of time since it can be a few hours after arrival before you'll have time for food. I think you guys did awesome, and were in as "perfect" of a scenario as possible in that place since you had the barn. Definitely not what everyone wants to be they're first experience, but it is the best thing to learn from.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Having grown up camping that was some funny shit to watch. I do sympathize with you with riding on gravel. It is very intimidating when you haven't done it before.
It’s funny looking back on it, and it’ll be even funnier looking back once we’re better at it… but in the moment it was anything but funny 😂😂😂
Y'all did great. Try a state park camp ground a few times so the two of you get a routine together with a more commercial site before Boone Docking. The storm threw you a curve ball but you adapted well. The key to a great camping experience is learning to roll with the unknown.
I'm half way done with this video and it is hilarious! Rabid racoonish!? 😂
Definitely one of those experiences that you hated during but looking back you can’t help to laugh & cry
Thank you for sharing. Real. Life. Wouldn’t be surprised if this gets the most views.
Glad you liked it!! Definitely hoping the algorithm lets this rack up the views…it would make the struggle worth it for sure 😂🤘🏻
I try not to compare RUclipsrs to each other, but I can't help but wonder what Quasimotard would do. 😂 - Great video as always, Burch!
Quasi would’ve had his feet kicked up in a hammock somewhere behind a Walmart, drowning out the storm with a tall IPA I’m sure! 😂😂😂
@@LifeOfBurchYep... I would have definitely been laughing and throwing beer bottles at the storm! C'mon... is that all you got?! 🤣👍🍻 --QM
Oh my God, that was hilarious! Although I'm sure that at the time it must have been anything but. Your story telling technique made it even funnier! Love how you used the music to make it more dramatic. I highly recommend taking a puck or something to put under the motorbike stands to stop the bikes from sinking into the grass/mud if you ever find the strength to try it again, lol. It's a good idea to practice putting the tent up at home a few times so that you learn how to do it quickly just in case you have rain when you get to your campsite due to the fact that your tent is put up with the inner first. I'm in the UK so we've got an outer first tent as it rains a lot here. Keep up the good work. I love your channel and it's because of you that I ended up getting my Rebel 500 a few years ago. Thanks for that 😘
Some day you'll be sitting around with all your friends and telling them what a great trip it was......because it was. Don't be discouraged, I've had plenty of "not ideal" camping trips, but they sure beat sitting around on the couch! :)
WOW. That was a crappy first camping trip. LOL BUT, you did it. Kudos to you and Nina for making it through. I hope future adventures go much smoother...
Looks like a good time to me!😂
Sorry you guys had such a rough go 🙁
Great story telling though 👊
good video, stuff happens, I got caught in a rain storm this summer also, Im surprised my amazon tent held up but it did.
Ours was an Amazon tent too! Wasn’t about to risk it though 😂
I have never rode a bike in my life but wheeeewww, baby this had me on the edge of my seat nervous during that hill trip. The fact that you guys made it through and didn’t murder one another, kudos to the both of you.
The only thing that would make this better is if Morgan Freeman narrated it
Damn I probably could’ve actually made that happen with an AI voice…where were you with this genius idea a week ago?! 😂
I'm not on the board of approvals.....
What an awesome idea lol.
I’d say you guys did great for a first time, though I recommend going to a dedicated campground or state park campground when you’re first getting into any sort of camping, they usually have pretty well maintained gravel roads that aren’t too steep and easier to ride on
I’m a huge Nina fan now! WOW gurrlll!! Love ya too Mike. Great video!!
This is what it's all about "The Adventure" It's a very nice video... so don't be so negative about the video you guys need to do more of them... 🙂
Thanks! Definitely plan on doing more of this this riding season 😁🤘🏻
Well that was definitely an adventure! Miserable as it was, it seems like an incredible learning experience.
WOW! that was terrible. i have been buying all the gear for moto-camping, i plan on going to camp grounds, forest land, not some fly by chance dirt/gravel road on a farm. that was a learning experience. your girl was super cool through the entire fiasco, hat's off to her. try a state park next time. maybe we'll see you on the road.
Crazy good!
Thanks!! 🧡
I know yall had a terrible time- but this was a good video! Maybe because of how real it is - I think you and Nina should try again but at an easier campsite with better weather- or maybe a cabin
I don't know if I suggested headlamps (hopefully I didn't 😅 lol) but uh.. as for bugs coming to the headlamps.. maybe a 2nd flashlight just to be tossed off to the side to draw the bugs over there?
Bahaha! Try that in Florida 🦟🐝🦗🐛🕷️
Been riding since 1988, never was even tempted to try motocamping. Hotels are expensive, but worth it.
Yeeaaa hotels are definitely the move. If you’ve already gone this long without motocamping, I’d say you’re good to not ever give it a try 😂😂😂
Man, it's terrible that this was your first experience camping. Destination unknown, inclement weather prowling in, untested equipment. . . that was a whole lot of Murphey's Law ("anything that can go wrong, will go wrong").
I'd definitely encourage you guys to try again at some spot w/in 30 mins of home where you can set up the tent for a few hours in the shade & cook over a wood fire (in a grill?). Go somewhere nice to test out your new equipment, turn it into a romantic picnic or something (& bring backup food in case the store bought stuff is a miss, or your home-made jerky didn't keep well).
That was a terrible 1st time, but you should try again. The beauty of nature is incredible, & even a night camping makes you grateful for all the modern conveniences we often take for granted.
And I thought my first tome motocamping was bad. Being an avid backpacker I had a bit more experience on my trip but really rain and high wind will ruin everything. At least you learned a lot and the only way to go is up from here! Cheers.
Hey at least it was a good learning experience haha. Glad you guys didn't die!
It was indeed QUITE the learning experience 😅 Definitely glad we survived…even though we felt pretty dead by the time we finally got home 😂
I learned alot also, that I'm a city girl and to use whomever HOTEL POINTS.😂😂
Regular tent camping is rough enough I couldn’t imagine moto camping. Koas and state parks usually have cabins that can be rented. That might be a good alternative or hotels near state/national parks. Can ride the motorcycles through the parks and hike but still get running water, ac, and option to cook or eat at restaurants.
You should go with someone who knows what they're doing. Also practice things like cooking and setting up the tent before you go. And plan some activities so you're not just bored. Also, don't be afraid to bail. You're doing it for fun, not to prove you can.
A. We would’ve practiced those things, but like I said, everything showed up too late.
B. Activities were planned…the storm was not. Not many planned activities can be carried out in a barn instead of the waterside campsite lol
C. We did bail. Like I said, this was supposed to be a weekend trip and we left after the first night once we saw how bad the weather was. Couldn’t have left any sooner or we’d have been riding through the storm instead of safe inside a barn.
I wish I was still close to yall. I love camping. Hope I could turn you on to it. I used to live in Fairfax but now I'm way up in NJ.
I would have gone back to the barn and wait it out
Making me wanna do this now 😆
Do it!! But at a less primitive camping spot 😂
@LifeOfBurch I camp pretty primitive with my Tacoma, but for some reason have never tried on my SCL. Maaaaaybe I'll take my Grom instead lol
@@taconomad Grom camping is the best!
My first moto camping trip with my gf (although she was in a car) was not the best either haha. It was a nice night but someone rolled up at midnight blasting music and a generator and then continued the music until 3 am. And I mean concert level volume from a giant PA speaker. Absolute a-hole. Would otherwise be so peaceful
You guys need to do a week tent camping so you get through the hate of it because it’s not easy you will learn to love it and miss it
Definitely plan to do a lot more this season!! 🤘🏻
Any time you go out it’s an adventure. You could have been on the couch. ❤😂
😂😂😂
I've never been, but I'm thinking it would be a MUCH better experience to go with a few friends with camping experience and at a nicer campsite.
this was great. I have to ask man, did you never ride dirt bikes? I would say the best choice you can make in the future is keep your primary road tires on and do moto-glamping where all your time is on road and then either staying in hotels or very close to road camp sites.
OR swap out your road tires for something like the Michelin Anakee Wilds ot Dunlop Trailmax. Those alone would make that tiny bit of gravel much easier to maneuver.
Talk about Murphy's law. Glad you guys were able to set up in the barn because out in the stop world have been complete unbearable
Yea the barn was an absolute lifesaver!! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
I'd go with adventure bikes for motocamping because of the possibility of roads like that. Your cruisers would be fine if you were going somewhere like a KOA but if you want to camp in hilbilly country, you need ADV bikes. At the very least if you stick with the cruisers, I recommend taking off road riding courses. Also look into wilderness living/survival classes. The more wilderness skills you have, the less stuff you'll have to load on your bikes
Don't be discouraged, first time not enough pre planing and a fee things going against you on this one. Plan another trip check the gear out, plan for the worst but know it will be better. Motor camping takes a few times to get use to it. After that you can narrow things in that you need and makes life better.
So, Why does this video make me wanna pack up my Honda Varadero XL1000 and just go camping... This was a phenomenal video. Glad you're OK.
Do it!! You won’t regret it! Even with how crazy this was in the moment, it’s now one of our favorite riding stories. Glad you liked the video 🤘🏻
moto cabining sounds pretty nice lol
Definitely sounds better than moto barning 😅😂😭
Dualsport life 🤠
Sometimes you make chicken soup and sometimes the chickens make soup out of you!! Been there with ya when things just don’t line up sometimes.
I'll be honest, Moto-camping does not sound fun to me. I'm more of a, 2-3,000 pound small Trailer RV that my bike can be towed inside of type of camping lol
Yeeaaa that would’ve been much preferred in this situation 😂😂😂
100% this. Camping sounds good to 2 types of people. People who are diehard campers and people who haven't been camping.
The memories camping gives you are why you do it. Some day I will have to tell you guys the wonderful memories Aunt Kathi and I have camping with Aunt Patty and Bob. But I will give you a sneak peek, it involves too much alcohol a full black tank, Bob and I with a fair amount of sewage on us at midnight. Yep memories made.
Hahah oh my god I can’t even imagine! Sounds like your story may have our story beat 😂
Funny seeing new riders hitting a gravel riad for the first time lmaooo. Panic 😂 the rain is coming babe we gonnna die.
Dude I'm in my mid 60s and I would give anything do this . ❤
Gotta love Sundays, y'know why? ... Of course ya do. You're watching what puts Fun into Sunday Funday!
Ayyy let’s go!! 🙌🏻😎🤘🏻
I enjoyed watching that from the comfort of my recliner. Camping sounds like fun until u actually do it.
Was this the time when you already had an XR, or before?
I don't know what y'all are complaining about. You didn't even get wet, lol.
What kind of bags you have!?
Was that road really that bad or is just the Dunning-Kruger effect for me because I don't have a moto certificate, yet?
Well… spoiler alert… you guys made it ;)
Fun video. Always fun to look back at these experiences. Thanks for sharing it dude.
Also… “the bears can” bahahahahah
Definitely fun to look back on…but not so fun in the moment 😂😭
Ok, no motocamping for me. First, I hate gravel roads...so not gonna do it. I live in TX so hot and humid is a way of life here but certainly not gonna do this in a storm. Glad you both survived
What's the song used when your going up the hill. It's amazing.
I can’t remember what it’s called, but it definitely fit the drama PERFECTLY 😂🤘🏻
Idk, didn't look that bad or steep at all. Maybe I'm used to taking my rebel 11 in the mountains with my adventure buddies. Anyway, it was memorable trip :)
Camp in the barn because A hole didn't leave a map.
Just a theory but I noticed when you were struggling, you had low Torque set on your bike. I'd try upping the Torque to Mid or High on your User setting next time to see if that might help with off-road gravel trails when it gets steep.
That’s not what that setting means. It’s torque control, essentially meaning traction control, not the torque level. So a higher level doesn’t mean more torque, it means more traction control intervention. If anything, it would’ve helped to turn it completely off because you can see my TC light going crazy most of that hill climb, meaning it kept cutting power trying to let me get traction. If I had turned it up, it would have intervened and cut power more aggressively. But none of that matters because I will NEVER be in that situation EVER again if I have anything to do with it 😂 It’s hard to tell, but that hill wasn’t normal gravel like the driveway. It was rocks that were legit the size of goofballs. Which is why I was bouncing around so much and the TC was having an aneurysm 😅
@@LifeOfBurch Ah! Sorry! I had misunderstood what that setting was this whole time then. I did notice those rocks looked chunky in the video!
Yikes! It’s definitely not for me. Mosquitoes absolutely feast on me not to mention ticks and biting flys, heat, humidity, noisy party people at nearby campsites, having to bring my CPAP machine and a battery to power it, planning and packing, setup and takedown… I’d rather just do a backyard fire and sleep in my own bed and stay in hotels on the road.
I would've just stayed in the barn 🤔 why set up a tent next to a barn??? 🤣
Great video!! Very creative!! Next time, less primitive 🙂
Less primitive next time FOR SURE 😂🧡
I'd recommend hammocks instead of tents
Camping is best done with friends in cool weather. If its hot, always by a swimming hole. Sitting in a tent alone, or with the same person you spend every night with, thats not all that fun. Especially in the heat.
Really just bad timing and poor planning. Just car camp some spots to get a feel for terrain. For the weather, a really well staked tent and rainfly will do the trick but experience is key there. If you haven't tent camped in a storm before it's just scary, most "seasoned" campers aren't sweating this stuff, they know their gear and nothing short of a tornado is gonna ruin it for them. It's kind of a catch 22, you need trust in your equipment and you can't earn that trust without a little faith. I try to weather my equipment in the backyard first and I understand you seem to live in an apartment so car camp and when things get too bad you can hop in the car but try and spend the night with the storm. With a motorcycle there is no car escape so gear trust is crucial. Backpackers weather this all the time being miles and miles away from any vehicle or escape at all, no barns to pull the tent under either. That said, planning goes a long way and should include handling the unexpected whether that's bailing on a trip or trusting your gear and experience to get you through! I'm sorry this was a terrible experience but learn from it and don't give up on motocamping!
Moto camping, this style at least, seems out of your comfort zone.
Go glamping, it’ll keep the missus happy
ive ridden in a storm like this on a r7 and it was sketch af
Never seen "lightening" like that. Looked unnatural.
Well atleast the rain keeps the bugs away 😅
Not in this case somehow 😭 We were getting DESTROYED by bugs the entire time! That’s why we were eating in the tent just trying to get away from them. That was the first thing I added to our “things to not forget next time” list- LOTS of bug spray, cause we brought none 😂😭
@@LifeOfBurch That's too bad, I recomend you buy a couple of those Thermacell mosquito repellers, M300 or M450. They're compact, light weight, super effective and there's no scent. That way you won't have to stink of bug repellent and you keep your camp free of all kind of blood sucking, flying pests.
@@Awanderingnorseman ooo I’ll definitely be looking into that! I didn’t know something like that even existed 😳
@@LifeOfBurch Yeah, they're really nice, when they can keep the biplane like mosquitos of Northern Norway and Finland at bay, then they can take care of pretty much anything 😅
What do they call this level 3 fun?
It’s not fun in the moment but you will get a serious laugh out of down the line.
Hahah exactly!! It is hereby dubbed level 3 fun 😂🤘🏻
