The Alps Lynx 1 has been on my motorcycle gear acquisition list for over a year but I much prefer sleeping in the lay-flat Hennessy hammock. Rather than buy a tent, I modified the Hennessy hammock to pitch on the ground, albeit as an inconvenient and sub-optimal tent which I justify by the weight savings.

A very handy add on to a dualsport is an "omega" made from 3/16 brazing rod. Heat and bend the circle around a 3 inch or so pipe. Bend the ears of the omega fairly tightly and trim to about 3/4 inches long. Wire tie to handlebar brace over bar clamp. Fold out flat and put morning coffee cup in it or use as a glove holder. Folds down when not in use.
Thanks, Sterling. Appreciate your videos as always. Just want to see like 30 minutes to an hour video you have. :) Just don't forget your ads. I'll be very happy to support you!
That equipment hanger is genius. I like to hang my jacket and my water bladder and a few bags and I always have to look for tree branches. 🙏🏻I will be purchasing for my next adventure. Thank you
One of the best additions I’ve made to my camping gear is a backpacking pump for my air mattress. Instead of sitting around blowing, I just attach it and turn it on, and by the time I’ve set up the rest of my sleeping gear, the mattress is full. Takes away my least favorite part of setting up camp. Thermarest makes one for the new valve you’ve got, but I have a Flextail Tiny Pump X and it works great for my older valve.
Excellent video and product reviews, sir! I second the AeroPress for great coffee in the mornings. I'd never thought of the hunter's tree strap for securing gear at camp... that's awesome! I'm definitely adding a couple of those to my moto-camping kit. Your video production is always top-notch. Most people don't realize how much effort is required behind the scenes to capture all of the angles, and how much time is required to set up for those shots. Kudos to you sir! As always, I'm looking forward to your next videos! 👊😉👍 --QM
Beautiful and informative video as always, thank you Sterling for the tips and for taking me away to the beauty of Oregon as I have my coffee in sweltering Phoenix.
Mate, well done! I'm was born and raised in Oregon. As soon as I saw your opening scene, I said to myself; "that's Oregon." Then you showed the "Oregon" heading. You particularly nailed the videos of the lantern and scenery. Very grateful for your reminder of my state, and the incredible beauty of ADV camping in such a setting.
I think that cooler classified it as glamping, rather than camping. 😉 Some very interesting ideas. Love seeing how others have refined their motocamping system. Thanks!
Howard Prairie is a shell of what it used to me. The Drought has done a number on it. Back in the late 80's the reservoir was full and we had some great trout fishing there. I went to college in K-Falls and visited Howard Prairie last summer for the fist time in years...
In the first 30 seconds, I was hooked. I love the whole vibe of your video and can't wait to watch more. It's akin to a modern version of the style of Dick Proenneke's filming.
I cannot say enough good things about that tent you're using. I bought mine for super cheap many, many years ago and didn't stop using it until a water leak in my storage unit destroyed it. This video really made me want to get out there and go camping again. Thank you so much for that!
I’m just about to do my first “motocamping” trip with my first bike over 360 ccs zigzagging from the Bay Area across the Sierras up through redwoods, Crater Lake, Bendover, and back home to Washington. Haven’t ridden in years, now doing research. Gone are the simple old days of bungee-cording a grip or a backpack on the back of my bike and heading out. Feels a bit overwhelming, but got good tips in this and his other gear video. I especially like the cold oats and the thermos cooking. I wish my CB500X could hold a cooler, but I’m not doing hard panniers.
Sterling, great video, man. The tree strap hanger and thermos are great ideas. I recently purchased a strip light from Haven tents... highly recommend... they take up little room, and u run it off any USB battery. On Friday, I head out solo from n idaho to tahoe... 7 days... 2 days visiting with family, then 7 days on through burning man and ORGBDR. Highlight ride of my summer. I also wanted to let you know how grateful I am for your videos, etc, because they give me an idea of what to film and how to edit .. the story, man. Thank u.
I've recently received the Haven strip light and really like it. Great travels to you! I'm hoping to go to Burning Man next year. Safe and happy journey to you.
well done my fellow rider. the video is beautifully done. simple yet necessary information. thank you for sharing your experiences and gears. hoah! AIRBORNE !!!
Excellent ideas! Man if those Wolfman bags can stand up to 10 years of your use they should last everyone else a life time. I have a little light that has a fan on it for inside the tent, just in case it is too warm.
@arai4176 not sure if I can post a picture but it is a Moveable Fan. Has a USB C charger in it too. Does not last as long as advertised but pretty close.
I really enjoy your videos. You obviously take your time making them and I love how much B-roll you use. The thermos hack is great. I'm gonna borrow that for uure.
I'm a big Fenix fan, I love their lights. Great quality at a reasonable cost! I have quite a few of their flashlights (bedside tables, firearm, vehicles), a couple of their headlamps (one I keep on my 1250 GSA - it comes in hand a lot!) and a couple camp lights. Thanks for the reviews, Sterling!
I have used their flashlight and headlamp in rough duty confined space work for the last 5 years. Great stuff and well worth the price compared to off the shelf stuff.
That lantern is great, I remember seeing it at the Touratech rally when you were setting up in the tent for your autobiography. It really helps shine some light on the situation. I was just out riding Highway 101 last weekend. It is a wonderful strip of pavement that I can't recommend enough, just go early to avoid the people!
Great video! Those Korean ramen bowls that the ramen come in are made of styrofoam and are meant to cook the noodles in, just add the boiling water to the bowl.
Love to pick up camping tips from others. I carry 4 tennis balls with a cross cut in each. Put them on the feet of my camping chair to stop it sinking in soft ground. Also you seen the new rechargeable mini air pumps, so small Nd work very well.
This is the best hack I have seen for the sinking chair. Very easy to make and by far the the lightest and smallest solution. Just wrap it in with your folded chair. ruclips.net/video/8dgWUYp038I/видео.html
Noticed you went to a hard case out back! For the past several years, I've been flip-flopping from soft to dry-bag to hard. At the start of this season I put on the hard case and couldn't be happier. I have the Nanuk 925 but next season I'm going up one size to the Nanuk 933 (which I think is the one you use?). Thanks again.....Always great to have your videos pop up...All the best from Canada..
There are a couple of reasons that I did this. I mainly carry my camera gear on the back, and I wanted some thing that was completely waterproof and dust proof, but also without any zippers as they tend to break.
@@SterlingNoren yes, zippers!! I think you said in your US-Canada-US loop your zippers finally gave out!! I have, like many, zippers everywhere it seams. I’ve tried waxing etc, but what seemed to extend their life best was straight silicone spray! And, this was a new one for me, my waste snaps on my motorcycle pants were getting harder and harder to ‘snap’ and to pull open. In a desperate attempt, last second before a ride, I carefully gave a squirt of chain lube/wax inside the female portion of the snap! Fixed it 100%….. like new!!

But the Wolfman equipment is still yop notch, and made here for the most part.

So many great, useful ideas in 13 minutes. Wide-mouth thermos for cooking noodles makes total sense now that we see it in action. Thanks to LED technology, camp lamps really extend your day. Well-done, as usual, Sterling. Oh, and I just tried out some merino wool boxer briefs to match my t-shirt: very comfortable and not clammy like cotton would be.
Good video. A covered pot will boil faster, even if it's just some heavy duty aluminum foil. This will further reduce the amount of fuel used to heat your water.
