  • In this little series I share ideas on how to do miniature photography with h0 scale railroad figures.
    Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live in this big world when you’re 2 cm tall? Today I share a behind the scènes with you on how to photograph these tiny figures. Except for the guy on the globe, I didn’t used a macro lens for this, just a normal 18-135mm lens.

    1:41 Set up a sunset
    2:30 Set up a book mountain scène
    3:23 Overview of the photo’s

    Where to buy these miniature figures?
    Local craftstores or stores for train model diorama’s may sell these. Otherwise, you might take a look at the websites below. (They are NOT sponsored and NOT affiliate links.)
    Europe: marnan.eu/
    USA: models11.com/index.php
    If you don’t find what you want on these sites, or they don’t ship to your country, you can search for them online. These are h0 scale, or 1:87 scale figures. The three main brands are Preiser, Noch and Faller. Be careful with the cheap ones on sites like Amazon and AliExpress, because the cheap ones may have a melted look and a very bad paintjob.

    Somebody gave me the tip to upload these photography ideas all separate, so there is a little bit more time to follow it more closely for each concept. Do you like that, or do you rather see more quick ideas in one video like this one? Let me know!

    Can you tell us what glue you use please? The miniatures are so delicate I'd hate to break them using super sticky glue.

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад

      Yes, don’t use superglue unless you want them stick down permanently. I use photo glue, it’s the type of glue you use for photographs or paper. It remains flexible and don’t damage the figures and surface. Some use blue tack, that’s also an option.
      Succes, have a nice day and thanks for watching! I appreciate that ☺️

    Hello, wonderful creations with 3 times nothing ... Bravo! What are your default settings for this kind of work on your APN? I use my Nikon's A mode (aperture priority) - F4 to F11 - ISO 100 - Thank you for your advice and good creations.

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад

      Hi Marc, thanks for watching! Nice to hear you enjoyed the video. I don't have default settings. This video is the first in the series of miniature photography, in my other video's I included the setting information. Mostly I photograph in M, manually. But A mode is fine! Which aperture you use depends on the scène. In some photo's I like less depth of field to only suggest there's a landscape ore something in the scène. Then I use a bigger aperture. In other photo's I want more of the background to show, or when I have multiple people, then I use a smaller aperture. So I can't give you default settings.
      Someone suggested me to, instead of one video with 6 ideas, make for each idea it's own video, so I have more time to show the behind the scènes of that particular miniature photo. Do you think that's a good idea? Then I can share more information about the settings I use.
      Have a nice day!

      Gracias por vernos, ¡eso significa mucho para mí! Bueno, creo que se venden en todo el mundo. Creo que también están en Amazon. Puede buscar en Internet figuras a escala h0 o figuras a escala 1:87. Las mejores marcas son Preiser, Faller y Noch. ¡Buena suerte! ¡No dudes en compartir tu trabajo conmigo en Instagram! 😃

    De tip om fotolijm te gebruiken zal uk ook eens uitproberen, tot nochtoe gebruik ik een Pritt-stift, maar dat is te zien op de foto's.

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад

      Dank je! Tenzij je hele klodders gebruikt, heb ik nog geen last gehad van zichtbare lijm. Mijn Pritt-stift was denk ik te droog, want dat werkte bij mij voor geen meter. Ik vind fotolijm persoonlijk ideaal! Succes!

    Ik ontdek je net pas, wat leuk met die minifiguurtjes! Mag ik vragen waar je die kan kopen?

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад +2

      Dankjewel! Die minifiguurtjes zijn officieel voor modeltrein diorama’s. Je kunt ze op veel websites kopen. Dit is h0 schaal, oftewel 1:87. Op aliexpress heb je ze ook wel heel goedkoop, maar die zijn meestal heel slecht beschilderd. Het beste kun je zoeken op de merken Faller, Preiser en Noch. Ze zijn niet de goedkoopste, maar als je eenmaal een paar setjes bij elkaar hebt gespaard, zijn de mogelijkheden die je ermee kunt fotograferen eindeloos 😃
      Een paar Nederlandse webwinkels waar je deze kunt kopen zijn modeltreinwinkel.nl, huider.nl en dekwast.nl. Met Google kom je een heel eind, succes en bedankt voor het kijken! 😃

    Where can one find figures like these in the US?

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад

      Amazon sell these figures as well, but be careful, some figures are crap. They might be cheaper, but the really inexpensive ones look melted and have a bad paintjob. The three main brands for these figures are Preiser, Faller and Noch. If you search for them online, they are h0 scale figures or 1:87 scale. Shops that sells train model diorama’s would have these figures too.
      You also can try this site: www.depsite.eu/epages/61760057.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61760057/Categories/Verzenden
      But that site is only for the brand Preiser and from the EU, but they claim to ship to the US.
      I hope this was helpful, please share some pictures with me when you’ve made some! Thanks for watching, have a nice day, greetings from the Netherlands ☺️

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад +1

      Depende de la foto que quieras tomar, pero cualquier lente servirá. Incluso puedes fotografiar esto con tu teléfono. Tampoco necesitas necesariamente una lente macro. Normalmente uso mi lente estándar de 18-135 mm o 50 mm.
      ¡Espero que esto ayude! Diviértete disparando, siempre puedes mostrarme el resultado. ¡Gracias por ver mi video!

    What lens are you using?

    • @AppelmoesArtandPhotography
      @AppelmoesArtandPhotography  3 года назад +1

      You can do this with any lens. Mostly I use my 18-135mm lens, but that’s just because I can quickly vary with the zoom. Sometimes I use my 50mm lens, because it has a little bit better quality. And in rare occasions I use macro extension tubes, but that’s not necessary. You can even do this with your phone. That’s why I like it so much, because I don’t have fancy equipment. Thanks for watching, have a nice day!
