RIP to Meleys, The red queen and Rheanys The queen who never was, but should have been.
Melys is a beautiful name for a dragon
Meleys*, indeed
and that dragon also looked fierce as F , love her roar aswell
She could have ended the war right then and there, preventing it from even starting. To me this is one of the biggest plotholes in the story. Rhaenys isn't stupid. By that point anyone could tell what was going to follow. I don't see any logical reason for her to show mercy to traitors and usurpers who would have imprisoned or killed her if they had the chance.
Like she could you think dreamfyre sunfyre and vhagar would sit idle when their riders burn rhaenys is dead meat the moment the green dragon comes
@@hirushadilhara7097they would not be able to catch meleys lol. Vhagar is old and slow, dreamfyre have been chained up, and sunfyre… well just say meleys will make quick work on him. I agree though rhaenys should have just burned the greens right there and then (she will pay for this mistake later on) but then we would not have a season two or three or four
@@mimiaqua423 for me it was a nonsense try hard feminist scene to give more power to women .these are some season 8 type of shit that doesn't make sense
I disagree. She considered it, but her loyalty to the blacks is still very much in question here. Remember, she still suspects Rhaeneyra and Daemon in the death of her son. Similarly, watching Alicent ready to shield her child caused her to stay her hand. I don’t think she was anti green at this point, she simply did not want to be imprisoned or controlled by them.
@@adamstaples9158 She had already chosen a side by that point. Her granddaughters were betrothed to Rhaenyra's sons and she herself declared for Lucerys as heir to the Driftwood Throne. She has been established as a clever character. Having her stay her hand out of mercy and motherly compassion or uncertainty at a point when it's quite obvious what this enmity is going to bring about just made her look dumb and seemed out of character.
This is the cost of showing mercy to people who wouldn't
she was just a coward. show tries so hard to make the females look cool but they end up looking like dumbasses
I love how meleys does a little hop through the door at the very end 3:35. cute
Whos here after the Meleys/Vhagar fight?
Rhaenys stomped on literal hundreds of innocents, was being imprisoned and held PRISONER, and had the greens by the god damn throat. She had the ENTIRE enemy team right there. One little fire blast and boop, war over. She had every right to at that point, the greens are legit traitors. She was being held against her will, her dragon being put away, she SPOKE to the queen and knows she wont stop. Fck being known as a kinslayer, this would have stopped a BUNCH of kinslaying and would cement Rhaenys and Corlys' at Rhaenyra's table forever.
Spot on take. Lol yes I am definitely here after watching the episode. And I remember leaving this episode just thinking that wow the whole war in so much more lives would have been saved. Practically if she would have done that the whole story wouldn't exist but it's fun to think about what if she did kill The Green
Nah, it wasn’t a war at this point. Rhaenys said herself later on that this wasn’t her conflict to begin. She showed strength by escaping with Meleys but 1) she had compassion for Alicent putting herself between Meleys and Aegon to try and protect him and 2) if anyone was going to escalate this conflict it would have to be Rhaenyra. War could’ve still broken out against the Hightowers and instability would’ve definitely followed either way. Yes, Rhaenys killing them right then and there would’ve prevented the Dance but it still would’ve led to war. She couldn’t have possibly imagined the savage conflict that would follow. If she did them I’m sure she would’ve done something.
@@Swampy24945Alicent was putting her son in danger the second she chose to usurp Rhaenyra, knowing there would be resistance.... She put him in that position so I certainly hope she would atleast try to shield her son, not that that would save him from dragon fire... Its not like she even had the option to run. It was no reason to spare them if she really believed in Rheanyra.
It's really quite silly Rhaenyra's father went to such lengths to have two more sons just to backpedal and assign Rhaenyra as heir.
The thing is, burning the people right there would seem smart, but nobody really takes into consideration the politics of dealing with the fallout, especially in regards to the small folk. None of us have ever been Kings/Queens and have to make these kinds of realm-spanning decisions.
Let's imagine that Rhaenys does burn them at this moment.
For better or worse, the common citizenry's perspective is that a rival came in burned the official heir to the throne and his family (Remember WE know that Aegon is not legitimate heir, but the SMALLFOLK don't know the shenanigans the Hightowers concocted behind the scenes: for all they know they might think Viserys did change his mind and name Aegon as king.)
What kind of a political situation does that result when it comes to the relationship of the monarch to the common folk of Westeros? How many decades will Rhaenyra's regime have to suppress rebellion if the normal people of Westeros believe their lawful monarch was assassinated by a rampaging dragon?
How would the geographically distant houses FAMOUS for their obsession with honor (the Tully's, the Starks, etc.) react to an act they would almost certainly have serious questions about?
How would the Blacks deal with the possibility of Daeron and the Green survivors rallying the disaffected common folk mentioned above in a generations long guerrilla resistance?
Sure the Targaryen's have dragons, but even the Targaryens cannot hold on to their rule indefinitely if they rules solely on fear, and Rhaenys burning them at this moment would cement Rhaenyra's regime as one defined by fear in the eyes of the small folk, and the small folk make the realm, NOT the kings/queens.
TLDR: Killing them here now would solve the immediately problem, but they will deal with political fallout from this moment for generations. Rhaenys is a veteran of politics. She may not know the precise outcome of such an act, but she is astute enough to know that such an act has consequences that they might not be prepared to deal with.
All that build up to have Meleys robbed of her epic final fight. Instead of showing them having to use two dragons simultaneously to beat her they just show her hurting a baby and then getting sucker punched by the biggest and slowest creature in the universe.
I think people are misinterpreting this scene as a plothole unfairly. Regardless of how easy ending everything wouldve been it would not have sent a good message to the people in the slightest. By their perspective she already attacked the people just to escape captivity which they weren't even aware of, but her burning the now self proclaimed king/entourage would've been a long term death sentence for their goals which Rhaenys wasnt completely dedicated or committed to yet. Daemon even calls her out for it, so I wouldn't put this as an overlooked "plothole." Its her demonstrating restraint, control of more than the situation but over her dragon, and yes inevitably mercy. The Queen that never was, yet damn well could've!
Well said!
I think the problem is this scene is too high profile and doesn't make any sense you have to understand the way hotd is written it sourced 3 different account and there's a lot of conflicting information except for the battles, I don't think this scene would be written out by the 3 different sources in the books.
They gave her a sigma male moment but it just ended up looking dumb.
@@peenoice5176it did not, it showed her disgust. Her power and capability

"The war is not mine to start" - Rhaneys, right after murdering a couple of hundred peasants.
Well, this is the medieval times (or fantasy based on the medieval times) for you. Nobles don't particularly care about their underlings.
The problem is those pheasants supported Aegon and not Rhaenyra so they were enemies at that point.
@@costco_pizzathey supported Aegon because they were forced to. Also how on fucking earth would they know that Viserys didn’t change his heir?

Meleys: This is War!!!
She killed herself by not doing shit here.
One dracarys and the dance of dragons would never have happened
Otto acting like it’s his coronation day until Rhaenys showed up. 😂😂😂
We all deserve our warm thanks to Rhaenys for not burning them all off so that we can get another season and more! thank you Meleys and Rhaenys! 🙏
After two years, I can finally say it. Rhaenys, you made a strategic blunder here. Now both you and Meleys are dead.
Rhaenys was a badass princess, she really was the queen that never was to her death
They tried to make a “cool ass ending” instead of following the book, and it ended up only ruining the season 1 ending.
She couldn’t kill anyone there because they all play a significant role in season 2, and the excuse that she didn’t want any part in the war is stupid because she killed hundreds of innocent people right then and there, if she truly didn’t want to be in the war she would have simply left quietly with Meleys instead of killing the people of the enemy.
She could’ve escaped so easily because :
1. Meleys is the fastest dragon alive
2. Dreamfyre was chained
3. Vaghar is old and slow
4. Aegon was going to fly with Sunfyre around the city to show off, and if anything, Meleys could easily fight Sunfyre 1x1, win and leave
One of the reasons that I believe for them to heavily change this scene was because they wanted to show Sunfyre only on season 2, and when he finally showed up it was lowkey disappointing, they did Sunfyre dirty as fuck.
And she didn't have to use dracarys or kill everyone on the podium. She could've just had meleys crushed otto, Alice, aegon, and aemond. Maybe Cole but he's not significant enough. This scene was done so they could get reactions and soyfaces on Twitter instead of being logical which they didn't even follow from the beginning either
She didn't want to get involved in the war. She only broke out because she didnt want to be a prisoner and she couldn't leave Meleys behind.
When did she kill hundreds of people?
It was always Rhaenyras crown. The King named her his heir and Hightower and Alicent and Aegon all defied his wishes
Greens have Lannister plot armor.
The most badass moment, the most badass entry 💯
Criston Cole, Otto Hightower and Aliceng Hightower these three were like a plague upon the House of Dragon. Wish Viserys never allowed them and trusted Daemon
There's a deleted scene, now up on RUclips, for episode 10 where it shows Rheanys went to Dragonstone to warn Rheanyra, but also grab her granddaughters and flee. She tells Beala, who wants to fight, that they should return to High Tide and stay out of it. Rheanys didn't kill Aegon because she had no intention on fighting for either side. Beala wants to fight for team black, and after reminding Rhaenys of Leana, it helps convince Rheanys to pick a side, that and how Rheanyra handles herself in front of everyone. That one deleted scene changed my mind about this whole scene. Yes, its still flashy and unnecessary, but her decision to not kill "team green" makes more sense to me now.
She didn't wanted to got involved.
Probably changed because it significantly alters the main plot at least on the surface. Had her house stayed out having a third faction surving the war with intact dragons would shaken the foundations of the all of ASOIF. They should have just deleted this and shows her escaping in secret later after the coronation.
AND NOW IS THE RIGHT TIME TO SAY "ANGOS MELEYS" 😌
I love Halaena's acting. You can tell she knows something terrible might happen.
Someone with hightower blood wearing Aegon the conqueror's crowd and carrying his sword is nauseating like Joffrey with half of ice
I love this scene. Aegon hiding behind his mother. 😂
Who came back to this video after rhaenys and meyles demise??? 😖
😢
This is what Cersei meant when she said you Win or you die! This was her moment to win, there can only be one outcome after this
Meleys was freaking beautiful.
If it was daenerys "dracarys" would serve right there.
She was one "attack, meleys " away to end this mess.
That whole roar had me shook
She could have at least found a way to burn Ser Crispin
😂
Ladies and gentlemen: Meleys, a beloved dragon, according to Ryan Condal. Lmao.
Hahah
And now she’s dead. RIP to the Queen who never was 😢
Viserys saw this - a boy born from him with the conqueror’s crown. Not knowing that it’s the start and the reason why it tore his house and family apart.
Crazy how this could have ended the war before it started.
What a disappointment, she should have burnt them to a crisp
She couldn't. DoD was in history of Westeros
Would have spared Helena, but burn the remaining leftovers.
@@padraigcrilly9412 no, Aegon is the rightful King and Halaena is his Queen not the whørë of Dragonstone.
@@Papaty25The Greens are just as much mudbloods as the Black's. The only Targaryens who deserved to sit on the Daemon and Rhaenyras kids and they are unquestionably Valyrian. At best these Hightower/Targaryens should have married one of the Strong/Targaryens with others marrying into other rulling houses in Westeros (like Aemma Targaryen) then later their children could marry each other. That way the Targaryen bloodline wouldn't be so heavily incestuous or diluted.
@@Not-Ap Blood doesn't matter. Legitimacy comes from birth status (trueborn status not bastard status) not blood. Aegon the Conqueror was himself 50% Velaryon. Besides, Rhaenyra is 75% Targaryen and Aegon II is 50% Targaryen. Aegon II's kids have more blood of the Dragon than Rhaenyra's strong boys.
I came here after her death scene last night. She could’ve ended it all right here :(

Is it weird that I would be completely fine if the story ended here, and be fine to just have one season of HotD?
I love and hate prequels 😅 it gives you an expansive view of the main story, but you want to change the outcome knowing the ending already. These shows to me rub missed golden opportunities to my face.
I love this show, but I am completely fine with just 1 season
Simple Dracarys would end it all.
Why does Halaena look excited to die 😂
She knew/saw what’s going to happen (she told her mother the day her fathers die…) so, probably she also knew that Rhaenys was not going to attack. Maybe she’s just exited because her prophecy came true. She’s a sweetheart lol.
Can you blame her, being surrounded by all those dipshits, death would be a bliss
she knew how she was going to die, and thought that this is a better end than her destined death
She missed the king that why 😭
@@booknatic1660 If she had the gift of prophecy that makes her more despicable than any other character in the show, it means she knew all the deaths that would result from her ambition.
Just imagine all the needless destruction and deaths that could have been avoided if Rhaenys uttered one word right then and there.
Alicent's nun costume 😂😂
I hate this scene. It makes her such a hypocrite and kind of paints a bad light on her character in fire scenes. She could have ended the war, and she also killed all those small folk.

Perhaps I'm the only one who see this: As the guards were closing the doors, Otto ordered them to be opened, he knew he himself can't escape, nor his family with Melys blocking their path, but he ordered "open the doors" so the smallfolks can escape. Otto cares more about the common people than any noble in the dragonpit. And I doubt Daemon or Rhaenyra would do the same.
No he did that so they wouldn’t be locked in with Meleys and Rhaneys! He did this so Rhaneys would have the choice to leave on Meleys and hoping she would not execute them! Which almost didn’t go as planned for him!
@@tylerjanes8491 That too
