Love the scene, but it irks me that Vhagar not only managed to hide, but also close the distance that fast without Rhaenys knowing. Top it off by the fact that she flew incredibly close to the only possible thing that could be concealing Vhagar. Maybe a small nitpick, but it makes rewatches a bit less satisfying. I’d have preferred Meleys going back to grab at Vhagar again and Vhagar just managing to close around her neck.
Yeah it doesnt make sense at all, vhagar went to the ground while rhaenys was still in the air, like what was she looking at when not at the only thing threatening her, how can you lose sight of the dragon when it needs to take off on a huge open space
@@jorgbrunner6530 Exactly. It makes absolutely no sense at all. Very poor writing. Not only did it not comport to logic when considering the basic fundamentals of battle, they had already recycled this idea in the previous season, making it uneventful. Though Rhaeynes was far more experienced than Aemond in battle, to not flagrantly lose sight of an explicitly conspicuous opponent, regardless of experience, an enormous opponent like vhagar simply doesn't have the privilege of sneak attacks on their side - unless their hiding in the clouds with the benefit of night on their side like last season - as their sheer size disqualifies them from that benefit. There's no way a slow, old, enormous dragon can discreetly yet rapidly advance on a smaller opponent without their knowledge. Makes no complete sense.
I don't know her. I've never seen the show. But I'm on her side. She gave it everything, knowing the inevitable. Knowing the other dragon is much more bigger and died like a true boss. She gave me Olena Tyrell vibe. ❤❤❤
It's well known that numbers often prevail over power. With five dragons on Rhaenyra's side, along with the other dragons from Dragonstone, she would easily defeat the Greens, who only have two dragons. If Rhaenyra launched a severe attack plan using all her dragons simultaneously, she would win easily in couple of days.
Most dragons on the black side would not be able to fight Vhagar even together. Only a few would be able to threaten Aemond. If Rhaenyra did this, she would probably lose too much. This is simply not a wise move.
@@Kubu1917 Vhagar is double size of caraxes, so if we got the scenario of vahgar vs caraxes, meleys and syrax, the three will be larger than him, deamon, Rhaenyra and Rhaenys all have more experience in dragon riding than aemond. It would make more sense to send only Daemon and Rhaenys against Aemond, but then Rhaenyra would be left with weakened protection (and I remind you that the main goal of the blacks is to put Rhaenyra on the throne). The Blacks also have Vermithor, and he would be much better against Vhagar, but without a rider, it makes no sense to send him against Vhagar. Only Daemon is capable of threatening Aemond in any way.

As a book reader, I was both sad and amused to see just how many fans that have only watched the show say Rhaenys became their favorite character in recent weeks. Sad because of how soon she and Meleys leaves us in the Dance. Amused because a lot of fans of this show also watched GoT and you would think to be careful on choosing favorites. This is in the same universe where absolutely no one is safe lol if you think this story has a happy ending then you haven't been paying attention.
Rhaenyra's suspicion (attacking the Rooks Rest by Greens made no sense) was right. The Greens wanted to lure (any) dragons of team Black. They (Aemond/Cole) thought, that the only way to kill black´s dragon/dragons was to use Vhagar. Of course it is dumb and non-tactical thinking (for example: it would have been enough if Caraxes had also arrived). So, Rhaenyra should have sent only spies (and use them much more frequently too) to Rooks Rest and then attacked and ocuppy the low guarded Kings Landing. Until then, Kings Landing was guarded by Vhagar and other smaller dragons.
Bro what do you know anything about war? If the greens capture Rook's Rest(which they did) would cut off the Black's ability to acess the mainland, therefore making them unable supply their allies in the Crownlands, and have no fortress to hold an army. Remember Dragonstone is an island. The Greens knew that losing Rook's Rest would disable the Black's to get to the mainland, which they would have to send a dragon to defend the castle, in response Vhagar was sent to secure victory.
@@Draedoon she inflicted severe damage to Sunfyre and basically took him down. That was a HUGE advantage to the Blacks. Rook's Rest was lost as soon as Vhagar made an appearance. There is no shame in running away from the largest dragon alive after taking down Aegon and Sunfyre. That was a HUGE advantage. Blacks didn't lose a dragon and the green has Sunfyre out of commission. Going back to sacrifice for nothing was stupid. Meleys was the fastest and one of the trump cards of the Blacks. Rhaenys gave that up for nothing.
@@monkeydluffy2063 huh. Remember, Rhaenys was the only one who supported Rhaenyra to find another way before the war started because men thirst for blood and honor. Her going for "honor" was contradicting that. Also, her job in Rook's Rest was done. She took down Sunfyre and THE USURPER KING. Taking down Aegon is the highest honor there is.
Vhagar is THE ONLY dragon that is fully functional for The Greens. She has to be ruthless because The Greens are sooo overpowered & outnumbered by The Blacks who have Meleys, Caraxes and Syrax.
Rhaenys' only mistake is not attacking immediately after Vhagar hit the ground and Aemond was exposed on her back. Taking to the sky and circling back is the error, not choosing to attack at all. (Her character is a brave, honor-culture warrior, after all.)
Interesting...on rewatch, it looks like Rhaenys had the upper hand for most of the encounter. If only she had simply finished them when they were knocked onto the ground...
@@gin.gefilms How can you label as awesome the killing of such an awesome dragon and rider? Nothing awesome in that. Talking about filming direction and emotions, yes, but I'm the lore, no it's the worst. In the books it's better. The three dragons fell to the floor together, no sneaking attacks from the big fat lizard
The Red Queen looking at The Queen who Never Was in her last final moments was definitely heartbreaking. The dragons in ASOIAF are very intelligent. Meleys knew that she and Rhaenys were done for. She gave her rider one last look of love.
Fictional story with cgi dragons so bear with me. After vhagar slams into the ground rhaenys should have immediately circled around and came down om aemond and vhagars back. The time and effort for vhagar to get airborne again was when vhagar was the most vulnerable they are likely to find. To launch a surprise attack from above could have taken aemond out for good
Yes. They don't even Have to kill Vhager. It's Aemond, the rider, that's vulnerable. Finding another rider for Vhager if he dies wouldn't be easy. She was riderless after Queen Visenya's death for decades.
The fall didn’t hurt Vhagar at all, you see her immediately get up and start sprinting. Meleys can be seen exhausted and injured at that exact time, look at her injured leg and labored flight st the 1:50 mark
It's like so stupid, because it's just such a gigantic win for the Blacks, Sunfyre is dead, Aegon is probably dead, a big chunk of the Green's army is gone, all that at the expense of a small hold, and then suddenly SHE JUST DECIDED TO GO BACK FOR LIKE NO REASON MAN!
2:10 at that moment she realized she's done, she lost sight of Vhagar now she won't see the next attack comming and with the size difference Meleys won't be able to do much Some people complain about it but it makes perfect sense, if Aemond and Vhagar didn't hide and ambushed their opponents they probably wouldn't be able to chase them down, also it's a fight not some sanctioned sport or something, you use everything at your disposal to win, I think is funny how the same people complaining about this probably love when Bronn fights dirty or when Daemon pretended to surrender to the crabfeeder and it was a trap
Now that Aemond has used the ambush from below tactic twice, it would be really dope for him to try that on Daemon and Caraxes and it totally fail and Caraxes make Vhagar pay for it.
Quite likely and that wasn’t a sneak attack. They were in a dogfight, rhaenys made the rookie error of losing sight of her bandit and showed bad awareness of her surroundings. Aemond was simply a better pilot and daemon likely trumps him with experience.

You would think a person like Rhaenys would have her eyes on Vhagar the entire flight, which shouldn’t be hard when the dragon is the size of a city 😂
Rhaenys wanted to end the war by killing Vhagar that’s why she kept coming back again and again … like a samouraï she fight to the death and with honor 😢💔
You can hear it in her voice when she orders Meleys to attack again. She knows she won't survive and she flies willingly. My absolute favorite moment. She was never crowned Queen but she absolutely is The Queen in this moment.
Tbh, I think this is a fair trade from the blacks POV. Meleys Decommissioned Sunfyre and the king, Crippled Coles host, and even managed to wound vhagar. Sure Meleys was a valuable asset to the blacks, but they still have a handful of dragons that can give Vhagar a run for her money, such as Vermithor, Caraxes, and Silverwing. The only issue is they are a bit short on riders, which is where the dragon seeds come in.
I wish so much, that when Vhagar hit the floor, Rhaenys could have seen the advantage and attacked vhagar again… she could have ended Aemond / Vhagar there and then… even taking Aemond out would have been easy!… then Vhagar would be at least riderless… A DOWNED DRAGON IS A DEAD DRAGON.
This is where they needed to introduce Dragon Armor if Meleys had some sort of Armor around her neck like spiked armor of some kind it may of saved her no matter what time of day it is this sceen creeps up on me and always makes me sad
I notice Meleys always go for the inverted belly scratch attack, as shown during it's fight with Sunfyre before this scene, while Vhagar knowing it can't outmaneuver smaller nimble dragon, always use it's camouflage and ambush tactic. Both Meleys and Arrax died to the same move, an ambush from below.
Possibly, however that’d leave Dragonstone completely undefended, and I don’t think she thought that the Greens would abandon Kings Landing like they did for the Rook’s Rest campaign.
Ok, as many are already mentioned, Vhagars sneak attacks are starting to get on my nerves. In addition of that, how Vaghar managed to hide in the forest without anyone noticing? Not even all of Cole's men knew about it. And how Vhagar even had managed to land in the forest without a single tree had fallen? Earlier, Baela chased Cole and his men with her dragon. At the last moment, Cole and his men managed to ride into the forest and hide under the trees. Why didn't Baela just burn the forest down? She had a damn dragon! It wouldn't have been difficult to guess Cole's location. She was right behind Cole when he rode to the forest. A few breaths of fire and those men would have burned. Needless to say about the assassins who just walk from the secret tunnel into prince's bedroom. Or Rhaenyra sneaks into King's Landing. Why do these guys even need armies and castles because sneaking is so effective? Just roll D20 and go full stealth.
The scene looks cool, but made far more sense in the book. In F&B, Sunfyre and Vhagar both ambushed Meleys simultaneously, with Sunfyre and Meleys tangling up and Meleys winning due to her size. Then Vhagar bore down on them both from above and crushed Meleys into the ground, using her weight as an enormous dragon to cripple the faster dragon and finish her off. Sunfyre and Aegon were both badly wounded, which Aemond One-Eye was implicitly okay with as he was thereby the acting regent. There were ways to portray this battle in an exciting way without writing Vhagar into the stealthiest chonker since Jack Reacher again.
Remember, when all those things happen, Daemon is still in his Silent hill playthrough

I can’t wait for Daemon vs Aemond!!!
I don’t think they will follow the book. Because the fights aren’t as detailed as the show makes them. Damon jumps off caraxes and stabs Amond in the other eye witch I thought was badass and ironic
@@trevormynatt3466who knows? They are actually following some things, but not others.
Rhaenys saying goodbye to Corlys by touching the sea with Meleys
That is a great thought. Hadn't considered that.
When she told Meleys to attack, she knew she was dead, they made you think Daemon was foolish for ordering her around saying come with me to kill Vhagar, but he was right
Love the scene, but it irks me that Vhagar not only managed to hide, but also close the distance that fast without Rhaenys knowing.
@@jorgbrunner6530EXACTLY
Not nitpicking at all. You’re absolutely right.
Couldn't make girlboss Rhaenys just lose outright, so had to make it a sneak attack.
I don't know her. I've never seen the show. But I'm on her side. She gave it everything, knowing the inevitable. Knowing the other dragon is much more bigger and died like a true boss.
She gave me Olena Tyrell vibe. ❤❤❤
You should check out Ovik6280's tribute to Rhaenys if you want to see her story.
Nah thanks to some female writers, her character was lessened in the Aegon coronation.
Aemond and Vhagar nearly have 0% chance to win over that trio, the three dragons is nearly the same size.
And king aegon ll dragon sunfyre is very very small, rhynera have another dragons that can finish him easily that's include moon dancer, vermax and arax.
Beside the 3 wild dragons on dragon stone that rhaenyra can find riders for them, with all of that rhaenyra can win 100%.
The Greens have 4 dragons though: Vhagar, Sunfyre, Dreamfyre and Tessarion. I'm really excited to see Daeron and Tessarion especially, great duo.
@@josecarioca8785
It's three dreamfyre cannot be included because helaena targaryen the mad dreamer is not a warrior and cannot fight with a dragon, and prince daeron lives in old town with his dragon even if we included him it will be 6 to rhynera and 3 to greens beside the wild dragons that rhynera can find riders for them.
@@youssefsaleh8480 Syrax and Rhaenyra would be useless against Aemond and Vhagar. Rhaenyra and Syrax did practically nothing during the war and are not even half as good at fighting as Aemond with his dragon. They would probably be a priority target for attack and would be killed in minutes.
1:10 best scene in the show so far
I do love how the battle below basically stops as the dragons fight. Its both spectacle and terror as these great beastly warmachines duke it out over head.
She's a dragon rider, a warrior. She knows that very well. Of course she'd go back.
The way Vaghar just gently lets go of her neck pisses me off SOOOOOOOOO bad.
I liked it
@@businessfssai9015eugh
Vagar will die soon too.
@@edoardofichera306lol not this season and even then she kills…😂
Vhagar grabbed her neck so hard when she suprised melys. It was like a rottweiler grabbing a fox by the neck and shaking it.
I didn't need words to know that they were saying goodbye to each other when they looked at each other 💔
Am I the only one confused on how Vhagar was able to get the jump on the Dragon with the most agility? Also doesn’t Meley’s have horns and hardened scales protecting her neck? The kill didn’t seem realistic, at least in the books Vhagar slammed down on both of them using her size which made sense.1 on 1 meleys should be flying circles around Vhagar. I mean cmon Vhagar just woke up from a nap lol
i'm so over this fat lizard getting these free kills left and right, will cherish the episode when Vhagar finally falls.
He’s literally the biggest fish there
That wasn’t a free kill. People don’t understand Aerial combat. This was a dogfight and they had already engaged. Rhaenys made the rookie error of losing sight of her bandit and showed bad awareness of her surroundings. Aemond had better awareness and used his surroundings to his advantage, hence he was the superior pilot.
Fat lizard 😂
@whokilledjr3719 Bottom lime vhagar has to sneak attack to win. Big for no reason.
@@tyler-hp7oq No it was not a sneak attack and you didn't understand what I was stating nor do you understand aviation type combat. Very lazy
The thing is she could run. Not once but even twice. She knew her chances of winning were close to zero, but she was a warrior, a fearless dragon rider, loyal to her queen and she would have made a great queen herself if fate had not been so cruel. Rip the Queen who never was
Raneys went back because she wanted to prove her self she wanted to injure vhagar atleast so that it have the blacks more advantage to march on kings landing with the largest dragon hurt badly! Also u can tell she thinks she won’t survive it in parts and I don’t think she planned to survive the battle anyway she new what she was up against and there was the threat that vhagar could
Turn up she ain’t stupid. She and meyleys thought so bravely and to the bitter end and died together the look meleys gave her was heartbreaking I will never forget this scene I think it was amazing but I’m so sad that there dead i loved them both as characters 😢😢😢😢😢
i also think that she was ready to die fighting that day. Thats why she came back to fight Vhagar and ended up being killed by a ridiculously surprise attack from a very big dragon.
Why do people like Rhaenys she should have black hair
Crispin Cole seems remarkably uncrispy
But it litteraly is a happy ending. The so called good side wins and all members of the bad side lose
@@tyfoparalax8894 There is no good side
@tyfoparalax8894 no one wins 😅..... there children marry and rule together
“I won’t leave Meleys.”
So the Blacks lost their biggest dragon. 😂😂😂
It was supposed to be 2v1. An ambush that cornered her. They changed it so Rhaenys could run away, made her stupid and made her go back. Why?
Stupid? She made an honorable move and went back to fight Vhagar, In the process sacrificing her life for Rhaenyra.

@@koonehkun6404 Fair point, But she still died an honorable death, Even if without proper forethought
She has to be ruthless because The Greens are sooo overpowered & outnumbered by The Blacks who have Meleys, Caraxes and Syrax.
well they don’t have meleys anymore do they
Rhaenys' only mistake is not attacking immediately after Vhagar hit the ground and Aemond was exposed on her back.
Aemond looks stunned that Rhaenys came back to fight
the way how vagahr killed meleys is just sad

@@gin.gefilms How can you label as awesome the killing of such an awesome dragon and rider? Nothing awesome in that.
Talking about filming direction and emotions, yes, but I'm the lore, no it's the worst.
In the books it's better. The three dragons fell to the floor together, no sneaking attacks from the big fat lizard

The Red Queen looking at The Queen who Never Was in her last final moments was definitely heartbreaking. The dragons in ASOIAF are very intelligent. Meleys knew that she and Rhaenys were done for. She gave her rider one last look of love.
Now imagine had she gone with Damien and they had gone after them together.
Your videos are fantastic!
How on Earth does Vhagar, basically a T-Rex with wings, have the highest stealth level in the entire series? 😅
So intense. Beautifully shot. What a show.
2:41 POV: its Monday
Shot at 0:47 is my favorite cant believe how massive vhagar is
Fictional story with cgi dragons so bear with me. After vhagar slams into the ground rhaenys should have immediately circled around and came down om aemond and vhagars back. The time and effort for vhagar to get airborne again was when vhagar was the most vulnerable they are likely to find. To launch a surprise attack from above could have taken aemond out for good
This. She messed up by letting them take off
That last gaze of Meleys was like "Girl, what's going to happen to you if I die... sorry girl"
That last look from Rhaenys. She's about to die, and she knows it. There's nothing she can do to stop it, so she accepts it.
Rhaenys & Meleys - I will miss them 💔
Attack , Meleys
Everyone is sad but we were spared from their death in the book.... And trust me it was worse
Does anyone know the name of the instrumental playing as Aemond looks around on Vhagar at the end of this clip?
No I’ve also been looking for it !
On RUclips it is called war of the dragons
@@Stesa9912 thank you
The fact that Meleys didn’t crash on the ground and flew away so fast is crazy
It's like so stupid, because it's just such a gigantic win for the Blacks, Sunfyre is dead, Aegon is probably dead, a big chunk of the Green's army is gone, all that at the expense of a small hold, and then suddenly SHE JUST DECIDED TO GO BACK FOR LIKE NO REASON MAN!
It was her trying to do what she didn’t in the dragon pit.
Sunfyre is still alive, he's unconscious but breathing at the end. Aegon is alive too. But yeah Rhaenys going back was stupid.
I thought the exact same thing and they used the whole hidden dragon tactic again even though vhagar is the size of a castle loll
When you are alive as long as she was you’ll understand
Aegon is not dead, neither is Sunfyre.
2:10 at that moment she realized she's done, she lost sight of Vhagar now she won't see the next attack comming and with the size difference Meleys won't be able to do much
Some people complain about it but it makes perfect sense, if Aemond and Vhagar didn't hide and ambushed their opponents they probably wouldn't be able to chase them down, also it's a fight not some sanctioned sport or something, you use everything at your disposal to win, I think is funny how the same people complaining about this probably love when Bronn fights dirty or when Daemon pretended to surrender to the crabfeeder and it was a trap
I saw this scene 5 times and i cried 5 time.. RIP princess

This scene made absolutely no sense. If Vhagar was hiding in some dark clouds, that’d make sense but how tf did Aemond manage to park a dragon like Vhagar behind that castle 😂. You would think a person like Rhaenys would have her eyes on Vhagar the entire flight, which shouldn’t be hard when the dragon is the size of a city 😂
Thanks to some female writers, I didnt feel that bad for Rhaenys.
Killing innocent people just to gloat at the greens.
Rhaenys wanted to end the war by killing Vhagar that’s why she kept coming back again and again … like a samouraï she fight to the death and with honor 😢💔
It's sad how Melys looked at Rhaenys before she us gone like "I'm sorry"
This episode, this scene, this moment is just too intense for me 😫
You can hear it in her voice when she orders Meleys to attack again.
The saddest fall ever
bullshit, the smaller dragon would have easily outmanoeuvre the bigger dragon and won
Vhagar : 2 (4 if you count the Rider and their Dragon individually)
House Black : 0
When Queen sent her step daughter and "I want you to take MoonDancer and servaliance"😮
What’s kind of badass is that when they went straight head to head Meleys held its own, Vhagar got Meleys when she did a sneaker attack
Vagar will die soon, so all of them and all the Green. In the End Rhaenyra 's blood will triumph
Daemon had the right idea in assassinating Aemond. The Greens finding another rider for Vhager would likely be impossible if Aemond died.
This is where they needed to introduce Dragon Armor if Meleys had some sort of Armor around her neck like spiked armor of some kind it may of saved her no matter what time of day it is this sceen creeps up on me and always makes me sad
Its so sad.. i like her and her dragon its more sad than game of thrones
Uh, how does that thing sneak up on anybody
Experience?
Meleys beat Vhagar in 1vs1 ❤️🔥💪🏻
How they let such a big dragon go missing and prepare for a sneak attack
The music of Rhaenys and Meleys dying ????
Caraxes should've been there
I felt so bad for meleys :(
Rhaenyra should have called all her dragons.
Totally!!! She had four 😢😢😢
She has 13 less than half have riders
Possibly, however that’d leave Dragonstone completely undefended, and I don’t think she thought that the Greens would abandon Kings Landing like they did for the Rook’s Rest campaign.
They need to get Vermithor involved ASAP. Also Meleys was pretty lethal with that claw move
Aemond has no excuses being this hot after killing another of my favorite characters
whats sad here is, Meleys being the smaller dragon, WON round one of the fight! Vhagar had his azz handed to him.
Where are the white hair rastas when you need a doink
This is so sad to watch. Rhaenys was my favourite.
