@@mikequinlivan8842 yea follow the bass drum in the track. He keeps adding notes as it progresses… it’s the driving force in this thing.
@@texasforever3.025 cool! I will give it a closer listen. Thanks for answering my question. :)
If you listen to Dave's drumming with Nirvana, early foo fighters, and even with qotsa, it's always perfectly matched to the song's composition. Perfect pop, rock, drummer. He's a modern day Ringo Starr that hits hard like John Bonham without the over use of triplets.
Ringo Starr...bro hes like the second coming of John Bonham. Thumping and grooving
Such a big fan of these guys. Trent, I feel, is a true example of a person who can absolutely and whole heartedly use a musical instrument to portray his emotions. His music has always stood out to me, in that, theres no feeling of doubt or compromise when you listen to it. A true genius and brilliance of our time.
Josh Homme is the most talented of them all i think hes just so goddamn modest with his playing.
Good luck today
4:06 the extra build that comes with Dave Grohl increasing the intensity on the hi-hats is simply incredible. Flawlessly played beat that builds and builds. That can only truly be learned from years and years of consistent playing.
This is what being on top of the game, sounds like.
It sounds great and I love the artists... nevertheless, musically speaking this is all extremely easy. I'd say each artist has some serious examples of them being on top of their game, although this groove is chill, it does not represent what each artist is capable of.
@@holiosys It's the charisma of 3 successful and famous musicians getting together and playing with humility, with simple yet beautiful sounds, that resonates with me. It's pure fucking magic, man.
Chillllzzzzz!!!! Glad to know at least music can still move me
This is what falling asleep to music sounds like
Recording the old way to get the purest sounds fron the vintage equipment they were using to record with. Which in this day in age is a dying fact when everything is so easy to do overdub and record via a computer with today's technologies and effects completely different game.
i absolutely love Trent's smile at the end
Like it says "we did some pretty good job, here." Oh yes,you absolutely did !
Powerful
It was most definitely chessily Trent.
Man, I love when the engineer is just grinning at 5:10. Anybody's who's been on that side of the glass has probably worn that grin at some point. That's the face you make when you're witnessing magic, and you know how privileged you are to play a small part in capturing it.
Devin Andrews Amen brother
It's when all you hair stands up and you know that this could never be replicated.
I'm not even a musician and hearing the keys a bit off too....pretty noticeable in a spot or few.....still awesome, i can't stop playing it!
Dude! That's beautiful, and exactly, perfectly, eloquently said.
Knowing Trent, it's either intentional, or there's a delay in his headphones.
10 years later and this still gives me chills. It's made it onto every playlist I've had since. All hail these rock gods!! Especially Josh 🥰
I love the lack of eye contact between them. They know what to do and do it so well. Pure class.
I love the grin on the producers face about halfway through. Knowing he's not needed for this one. It will be done in 1 take
They have ears
4:03 this part is fkin amazing, each of their signature styles just bleeds into this and it fits perfectly, grohls nirvana-esque drumming patterns, homme's qotsa style bass guitar riffs and tabs and reznor's nine inch nailsy melodies
Why cant we have music like this when we get put on hold with Customer Service ?
If I were the King of RUclips, you would get a solid gold trophy for comment of the week, and it's only Tuesday! 🏆
This is the most amazing question ever,
- probly sounds crappy over a phone..
R.P. McMURPHY hii no wo Bhutto but
Because then the waiting line would be huge from people calling just to listen to the music. They'd wait until they're next in line, then hang up and call again.
Dave's roll @ 6:45 is so well placed & executed, I listened to it 5 times in a row.
Drumming master class
7:14 was better
This really conjures what it's like to play with other musicians. The dynamics are everything. All three players are capable of cutting loose (and all excellent vocalists) so it's nice to see the kind of restraint and discipline that one doesnt see in live performance but which is essential for recording.
It's so beautiful. I like the version with vocals fine buy this version gives goosebumps.
I’ve listened to both this and the final version. With a name like “mantra “, this one is mesmerizing, the way a mantra should be. Slow crescendo, lots of repetition. Love it.
It's cool how musicians speak this subtle language, where you can learn to anticipate each other's moves just by the nuances in their playing.
Nick Guy shut up idiot
John Arnold too late, he said it a year ago.
True. It's fun to se how much Reznor is observing the other.
3 dominant lead singers..... NO words... Love it........
Trent amazing on keyboard, Dave rocking on drums, Josh killing it on bass....three guys that shake music with tons of experience coming together for almost 8 minutes..
When Trent started playing that piano line from school of rock, I felt that, and the producer smiled because he probably knew.
Wish there was a whole album of these three together, this is so effortlessly beautiful.
This song is absolutely perfect. Pure magic from three of the best ever. Never gets old.
Without out any madness going on, it's great to see them fully focused. In the studio is where all the magic happens, and no distractions. AWESOMENESS !
I think a loop of this could play forever and I'd be OK with that...
Me too
Man, it would be great if these fellows did a full album. Utterly unlike the music each, respectively, makes; yet, completely impeccable. Reznor is the only modern musician in America who understands how to create a simple fugue on piano.
Acabo de descubrir ésta versión.... hermosísima! Bravo! y que suerte haber vivido aquellos años! 💪😎👍🇦🇷
This is still one of my all time favourites, these guy need to do more together.
The looks and smiles at the end are priceless.
Trent smiling at the end is my new religion.
rare thing to see
I can't believe this is already 10 years old. Ik keep coming back to this track every few months or so and it never ceases to amaze me.
Wow…only 11 years late to this fkn party lol! Why do I think I’m going to end up falling asleep to this tonight, or it ending up in my dream? Swoooooon TRENT!
Better late than never.
This has to be the greatest piece of music I've ever experienced. Absolutely mesmerizing and I cannot believe I found out about this just now.
Whatever Reznor and Grohl touch turns to gold..this is platinum.
Grohl sucks ass
@@tColorsinspacerecordings more accurately foo fighters suck, ever long is their only good song
Never much cared for everlong or any radio play. Colour and the shape however will never be lost along many b-sides from it's time.
@@tColorsinspacerecordings Fuck you. Nobody asked for your opinion. If you're not gonna appreciate what these guys are doing or the artist themselves, then get the fuck outta here. Stop being a fucking troll!
Hypnotic key change, So glad to witness this.
It's amazing how much three brilliant musicians can do with so little.
So glad this was posted. Words often just get in the way. This take was pure magic..........
For people who say this is boring : man·tra
ˈmantrə/Submit
noun
(originally in Hinduism and Buddhism) a word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation.
a Vedic hymn.
a statement or slogan repeated frequently.
"the environmental mantra that energy has for too long been too cheap"
synonyms: slogan, motto, maxim, catchphrase, catchword, watchword, byword, buzzword, tag (line)
"their newest mantra is "stay connected""
It's not boring, it's quite lovely, and lives up to it's title.
Damnnnn preach ! Makes a lot more sense now 👌🏼
+Lunystra Wolfson Then, it should take you to a kind of catarsis, but I couldn't find it anyway
it also shows how well grohl can keep a beat
+Jeff Oseman that's the genius of it so many overlook
Yup. Sometimes i let this play for hours while doing other stuff. Even set it to repeat exactly when the song ends so they talking don't disrupt the rhytm.
I would love to listen more music of this guys together. This is an supergroup of it's own kind!🎹🥁🎸🎙️
This is by far, my favorite track from this project. I love Dave. I love Josh. I worship Trent. The final product is so amazing, but, in a strange way, THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE, is somehow, what I expected it to be. I love the whole song, withs guitars, overdubs and vocals. But THIS. The 3 of them, playing live the core of the song. GOD. I think heaven exists.
God I love this record. Josh playing absolutely sublimely 👌🏻
Wow. I can't even put into words my thoughts on this one. Three of my favorite musical artists collaborating on an amazing piece of music, with a subtle yet urgent increase in speed over the duration. So simple, but so spectacular. Ear candy for sure. LOVE IT.
I seriously do not think I will ever hear anything more perfect than this .....its beyond beautifull
Queen Foo Nails of the Inch Age Stone Fighters.
The Vortex Of Doom 👌🏻
Trent Josh N' Dave's Bro Time Band
Nine queen fighters? Nine foo queens?
anything but nine queen foos
tony flow and the majestic masters of mayhem
Dave's in another universe when he's behind those drums
It's really post Rock sounding to me.so much space given by each musician for eachother. I love it.
Sounds sooooooo nice......I can fall asleep to this & then wake around 5:40 with a big smile jamming out
So talented, these guys; it literally goes beyond words to describe this experience.
When everyone in that room recognizes the other guys talent.
"do you wanna listen to that"... "sure"... dude that was crazy, they were just jamming, then they all 3 smile and are like "we did it"
Stone foo nail queens of the age of 9inch fighters
it's like they practiced that for weeks. but nah, just 3 music gods jamming a lil bit.^^
I could fall asleep with this song… what a drums! what a bass! what a keyboards! WHAT A BAND! Make an album together!🤘
so much talent in one room
Juan Pablo minus trent lol
@@smokinnplatez1426 more like minus Dave 😏
Tons of talent there. Too bad is a waste.
@@@smokinnplatez1426 sorry what did you just say?
This song has quite literally been lifeline for me some days. Over the last year I've been purging pretty much everything in life that just wasn't working anymore. It was needed but often has been painful and hard, and because I have an anxiety disorder there's been lots of fear and doubt, and trusting myself in situations is a struggle. But this song reminds me why I'm doing any of this. I tell myself that I'm different, so my life is going to be different. (And all of this will never be the same again) And there are days when I listen to it on repeat. If any of you ever wonder if the music you make makes a difference, it absolutely does! Music and art have the ability to heal and unite souls and it matters. Thank you. ❤️🔥
Gosh that bassline is the allegory of the "less is more"
I would assume the underplaying by all of them is why the song is called "mantra"
eeeeeeeemmmmmm i disagree, that bassline is the perfect allegory that been famous doesn´t make you a good musician it all, sorry Josh Home :v chuognd malafur espectramocosisncto ichbiech leht shakatatrucks!
@@HIRO-wb3nk yeah, and a few and many instrumental post rock bands which are unknown to the main stream do way better by light years away :)

Not a huge fan of the bass tone in this song
Always… and will be some of the greatest music I’ve ever listen to
