  • In the third episode of Guitar Moves, Sweeney gets with his best pal Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme in a sweltering Los Angeles garage to talk polka guitar and make fun of solos. In order to have lights they had to go without air conditioning. They did not go without tequila however.
Original air date: May 29, 2013
Matt Sweeney, host of Guitar Moves, is an NYC based producer (Joanna Sternberg “I’ve Got Me”) and composer (Superwolves, Chavez, Red Dead Redemption 2). His guitar playing can be heard on records by Adele, Johnny Cash, Endless Boogie, Neil Diamond, Cat Stevens, The Desert Sessions, Iggy Pop, Tinariwen.

Exactly. For some reason, most players feel the need to chime in....just to hope we know that you can also play. It's an odd alpha/jocky thing. Yes, we get it- go to guitar land and solo if you like. I've been playing for 25 years (see what I did there?Lol) There's 2 talking points. Have you written your own album/s and genre that the masses adore? Why not? Chemistry and timing are amazing. The dude oozes rock n roll.

I discovered Kyuss and Josh Homme a few months ago and am knocked out by what a true trailblazer and artist he is. I had no idea how he creates the darker textures he does. He makes his own scales and he's such a baddass, it works. As a guitarist who colors inside the lines, it's really humbling. And it's a new challenge. Thank you for another outstanding and eye-opening interview Matt. Respect.
