- In the third episode of Guitar Moves, Sweeney gets with his best pal Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme in a sweltering Los Angeles garage to talk polka guitar and make fun of solos. In order to have lights they had to go without air conditioning. They did not go without tequila however.

Once I stopped feeling like I needed to play music to get famous it made me love it even more! Being able to create something you enjoy and getting better at your craft is what drives me now. It's very freeing!

Exactly. For some reason, most players feel the need to chime in....just to hope we know that you can also play.It's an odd alpha/jocky thing. Yes, we get it- go to guitar land and solo if you like. I've been playing for 25 years (see what I did there?Lol) There's 2 talking points. Have you written your own album/s and genre that the masses adore? Why not? Chemistry and timing are amazing.The dude oozes rock n roll.
Yes! He is of course being modest, but if you love it, just play! The only thing that will happen is you'll get better and have a shitload of fun along the way.

All the episodes of Guitar Moves are the shit but this episode is King Shit. Josh Homme is the fuckin man. Great player, humble guy, really funny. Matt’s enthusiasm is infectious. I think he’s digging it the most.

Josh is a riff machine and a beast of a guitarist. He undersells himself here by saying he's not, but I get the message. It's important to just play to satisfy yourself. I don't know what I'd do without the meditative quality of just playing guitar to relax and have an outlet
All the best guitar players are rhythm players first and foremost. Josh has some nasty groove.

I discovered Kyuss and Josh Homme a few months ago and am knocked out by what a true trailblazer and artist he is. I had no idea how he creates the darker textures he does. He makes his own scales and he's such a baddass, it works. As a guitarist who colors inside the lines, it's really humbling. And it's a new challenge. Thank you for another outstanding and eye-opening interview Matt. Respect.
While I was expecting & excited for a NEW guitar moves session with Josh, I also quite enjoyed watching this once again for the 1000th time.
I love how they didn’t turn that snare drum off in the background.
It just adds to the unpolished brilliance of the whole thing, like that shouldn't really happen when you're filming an interview 😂

It totally is. The BFG one was fun, but my biggest takeaway was that he’s friends with kid rock.
Such a cool dude. He cares but not too much. He just loves his craft. Not much inspires me but his riffs always get your feet moving. His music demands it actually. Love it, man.

Josh Homme really did create a very unique sound. The ramones chords all the way across in major key appears in a lot of their music!
who needs tapping when you’ve got POWERCHORDS!!! Learning to play on simple black flag riffs might have been one of the coolest things I ever did for myself as guitar player, in terms of shaping my own unique style and tone

I was reading the comments at 5:37 and that whole bit about the shock without the video was... interesting lol. Love Josh, he's a certified legend and it's always interesting to learn how the figured out their style.
Guitar players: like many of us, I have incredibly mixed feelings about JH as a person...BUT this is an absolute clinic on guitar playing and guitar philosophy and it is a crying shame it's only 14 minutes long. As long as we're just talking about Josh Homme the guitar player, this shit is gold, and this is a man who understands the instrument he's playing as much as anyone.

I remember always being questioned or made fun of for playing power chords "the wrong way". I'll never forget watching the original upload of this and being so excited that one of my biggest inspirations in music plays them the same way I do (2:25 in the video).
First off every music interview should have the artist with their instrument like this one and only musicians interview them !This interview hang out is amazing and it is honestly the best rock star riff writing inspiration I have seen ! Thanks guys.
wow when Josh started talking about the curtsying and cabaret ness just pieced together a connection with Arctic Monkeys’ Humbug because that album gives me like a dark circus vibe (I love Arctic monkeys & humbug is my favorite so josh is definitely a boss man
