      It’s not even a 335, can’t believe they’d get that wrong, it doesn’t take much to memorise the difference between 335s, 345s and 355s

      @mattgilbert7347 5 лет назад +3

      Yep, any of those seminal straight-edge/core/post-punk bands from that period would be fun. Personally, I'd choose Husker Du/Bob Mould. But Fugazi would be cool (according to Alex Stewart it's very simple).
      All I know about Mould is that he used SS amps, with a tube amp (Fender Twin, I think) added to his live rig later in his career. MXR Distortion+, Flying V/Strat.
      That's pretty simple. He records using Line6 modelling!

    Glad this series is back! Even if the mark isn't always hit (in my opinion), it's extremely entertaining to see Rabea and Matt's approach on classic tones. I really don't blame them for not always getting close. We have to remember they're going after tones that are mixed and produced, eq'd, compressed, etc. Great effort from these two.

      Graham Coxon used to have a signature fender tele but it's discontinued so i reckon squier vintage modified tele
      for amps he uses marshalls but i reckon either vox or a marshall
      pedals i know he uses a lot of fuzz including the coffee and tv solo and maybe some tremolo but i don't really know
      i think that should do it

    • @CurstofMaj
      @CurstofMaj 6 лет назад +2

      Cory Wong would be so simple. Squier Strat - I think I’ve seen Jack use an affinity so that’s totally within budget, Fender deluxe reverb and a compressor. Put that thang in fourth position and funk away. Get Nathan or Lee from the bass show to guest star for Joe Dart while they’re at it.

    • @gustavstefansson2476
      @gustavstefansson2476 6 лет назад

      Zonda599Major Pretty much yea. I wonder though what compressor will do the job. I know Cory uses a comressor in to the amp but when it comes to the vulfcompressor on the track im not shure how they could achieve that sound. I guess they would have to go for live rigs.

    • @CurstofMaj
      @CurstofMaj 6 лет назад

      gurraplurr yeah I know he uses a Wampler Ego compressor, but they could get anything with a blend knob tbh. And I think they mainly use vulf compressor on stuff like drums and keys - the guitar stuff doesn’t seem to have as much of that vinyl-type squishiness.

    • @gustavstefansson2476

    That pickup combo on the Duesenberg is alot like the Gibson USA P94 / 84TLM setup on my Lee Malia RD Artisan. Down to the housing, except on the RD it's gold and not chrome. Also, Ik this video is 2 years old and someone has probably commented it but Jazzmasters do not have P90's. They're wound different and have a different base but are more kin to a Strat single coil, just in a large housing with wide covers.

    The best part about queens of the Stone Age is that their most expensive gear is the guitars. They go for things like the Peavey Musician 400, The famous Peavey Decade, Various Ampegs, and a whole host of other crap that's cheap, but has a lot of mids and lows. Cheapness is key to the Palm Springs sound.

  • @mattg082
    @mattg082 8 месяцев назад

    Pretty good job…but as an owner of a Ampeg VT-40 I picked up for $350. Just plugging into the amp, setting the EQ right and cranking the volume to gain it up…it’s 90% there. I considered pedals, but found a great deal on the amp local. I just put a treble booster and a Boss EQ in front. Pretty much nails everything!
    I’d think now if you don’t have the amp….use a clean amp like you have, a Boss EQ to boost 300hz or so like the Ampeg and a SFT pedal should do it.
    I’ve tried to get the sound, and didn’t really understand it so much until I was plugged direct into the amp with no pedals but a Treble Booster. The amp is such a big part of it! I’d say for people that really want that tone and more. Keep a look out for one of the VT40s. It may be cheaper than 6 pedals to do the same job. You def get closer with just the amp and nothing else than 4/5 pedals at the same cost. The amps can be found sometimes at $600, I just lucked out.
    The amp is only up to $1k online because it’s heavy and shipping isn’t cheap! But local pickups can be found sometimes for a decent price. Took me a long time to find one though locally.
    Also to Note I have a PDF pedal, and it’s amazing on its own. I feel like Stone Deaf tweaked that distortion for that sound maybe? Because usually his is clean boost and a broader range…although it can do a cocked wah. Lower mids and middle to last with it after dirt can change an amp and make it huge. He seems to be using 2, one set subtle behind or on the amp, always on to boost and fatten up. Then another first in line to shape pedals. It’s a very unique pedal of placed last can shape your amps tone stack.

And I play strats, Teles, and a PRS singlecut into a pedaltrain with a voodoo labs 4×4 power supply powering some really good Pedals! It's great. • @KeeperOfPoops
      @KeeperOfPoops 6 лет назад

      first they gotta go without busting, i know Syn uses a signature Schecter with a SD Invader in the bridge and a Sustainer in the neck, andertons have it but they can't get it for $1500 so something with Seymour Duncans and a floyd rose will sort them out well, he used to use marshall and now has a signature Hellwin head, so Marshall DSL amp, for pedals they need a compressor & chorus for buried alive's intro, a good distortion for the high gain parts and a wah for the requiem guitar solo
      for Zacky he also has a signature Schecter and his too is too expensive but i know he has JB Humbuckers by Seymour Duncan so they could find a JB equiped guitar, for amps he has Jet City but andertons don't have them anymore so they need something high gain like a Boss KT or Egnater Tweaker, his pedals include a MXR Black Label Chorus for Bat Country and some other stuff but i don't really remember, so i'll say chorus, drive and anything else in case

    Too moody. The frequency on PDF-2 should be much higher, around 2 o'clock and lower the bandwidth. And also swap the drive pedal to Catalinbread SFT. That should get the job done.

    • @JohnsDough1918

      Prawda TV , he has been switching around his PDF-1 settings across the years, though, especially when he was using the Maestro pedal it is based on. The Maestro is very recognizable on his Lullabies tone, especially live, but the frequency and bandwidth settings were different, a strong low-mids boost compared to the sharp high-mids boost he uses nowadays.

    Homme only played it through a bass amp on Kyuss material. one of the biggest (and only) differences between Kyuss and that first QOTSA album is that Homme is playing through a guitar amp not a bass amp. it’s only on Rated R that he actual song textures start to change

    Let me make a suggestion: you should use the Digitech Drop pedal whenever you want to tune lower (out of the budget, just for the sound) so you don't have to face the problem of changing the tuning of the guitar. It might be a solution for the next Sound Like videos!

    If only you guys could get hold of an Ovation Ultra GP. THAT is the true Kyuss/QotSA sound.

    sorry to be a pain in the ass, but i dont suppose you had the overhead camera running when you were playing regular john? I wanted to see the pedals you were using at the time and their settings because that sound was absolutely shit hot!! Excellent job guys.

    Well on the Songs for the Deaf album they didn't really boost the bass as much has they boosted the mids. The mids were boosted with like 30 dB.

    I find that the ehx pitchfork is great if you're playing multiple queens songs. it can get a little out of hand with a regular guitar amp though.

      also, no rainbow machine? it's a one trick pony for troy's stuff but it works super well for a lot of their new stuff.
