Rescue our Plane from Florida

- The weather in Florida has improved and I hop on an airliner to fly back down to rescue 1BC and bring her back home. I depart from Lakeland, Florida (LAL) on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight to Knoxville, Tennessee (TYS) to stay the night with my parents and break up the long flight home. On the way to Tennessee I fly over Athens, Georgia where I learned to fly and then get some pretty views of the Smokey Mountains.

My wife and I's first date was a flight from Athens to CHA and back in a 172. I was based out of PDK, but Athens always has a special place in my heart. Loved seeing that as you flew over it.

Riding along in 1BC and landing at TYS and being familiar with the view was really cool. Great shot of Alcoa hwy.
Flew in the right seat like Jamie quite a few times in college. Went to an aeronautical school, was going for ATC. Had plenty of buddy pilot's who offered me a free, fun rides, mostly cross countries. Flew in all kinds of single engine planes. Did become an ATCS gave it ten years, then Ron didn't like me. It was an awesome job to have!!! Keep up the video's!!

I miss them mountains! Grew up in Rome Ga. I miss it everyday!! Thanks for sharing your journey Kevin. My dad was a pilot he and my mom divorced when I was a kid. He lived in Athens and he flew into Rome to pick us up on weekends and flew us back to Athens. He passed away when I was 8 I do remember those flights out of Richard B Russell airfield.

I'm a little late to this video. I live just about an hour from TYS. Did my first and only (so far) flight with Morristown regional. I have a friend who works ATC there in Knoxville. Can't wait to get back to flying. Love your channel
Love the N GA, W NC and E TN mountains. Was supposed to spend a long weekend riding with friends there last month, but the gas shortage caused us to cancel. You had an exceptional weather day for this vlog, you probably would have appreciated a cloud or 2 being without your sunglasses. Thanks for bringing us along.

Nice quick flight. Thanks for allowing us to go with you. Doesn't it just blow your mind how many people watch your video's in just the first hour they're up? Not to mention over all views. That had to be one unplanned expensive rescue trip. Good choice to not risk that flight home with an already stressed out co-pilot. lol Tell Jamie, we were all stressed out too, and it was just a video for us.

Really purdy views on that one! I'm sure it was hard, but that was a great decision leaving 1BC there! I could also feel Jamies pain flying in there. I live in Seymour - just between Knoxville and Sevierville. Drop me a line next time you guys are in town. Great video. I can really relate to Jamie's fear of flying because my wife has only flown with me about 6 times in the last 15 years for fear of flying. Interesting thing is that before we were married, 30 years ago, she would fly with me all the time. lol. I get to hanger by plane at TYS and love to park under the overhead. TacAir is awesome also.

That ONE screw...would drive me nuts too. Hard to tell why it is rusting, good stainless isn't something you can assume anymore. Knoxville area is beautiful if it were not for grandkids we would have seriously considered retiring there, have long time friends in that neck of the woods.

I don't fly and I don't ride. Use to fly offshore in helicopters for about 10 years but this channel was recommended to me. Pretty cool. I'm here in north georgia wad cool to see it from 7000 feet.
Cool flight Kev! It sucks that you misplaced your Flying Eyes. I don't think I have ever seen you flying without shades on.. Cool. I decided since my service tech career was kinda going south after 20+ years and a new company bought us out to ruin everything....lol....I signed up to take the classes as a flight dispatcher. Theres a good school right near home so I'm going to complete that and hope to move on to something more interesting. I completed my private pilot training in my early 20s but never did much with it after that, haven't flown anything in 20 years probably.... Now at age 44 I have to re-learn all that stuff! I'm pretty stoked, something new again to me and its interesting and enjoyable.
Terrain he warned about was Clingman's Dome at 6687'. My mother climbed that Bonanza for 5 minutes climbing out of TYS to go to Atlanta! But I'm sure you know the terrain around E TN.
Well if you ever come back to Florida check out Daytona Beach we could have a drink im 5min walk to the beach and i know which hotels to get or i ask the wife we have extra room I dont fly or anything like that but I just love watching you guys its so cool fly safe and be safe hope to hear from yous

Every annual we replace all the screws we remove for inspection. They always look nice that way and it really is inexpensive doing that.
He just had the plane repainted - they should all be brand new.

It definitely sounds like you made the right decisions leaving the plane. That's something if it took paint off that guys plane.
In my opinion, if you having to deal with that much stress flying in to an airshow should make Jamie and you be better controllers in the long run knowing what can happen. I would think the FAA would look into the event. It sounded like they were really overwelmed. Sorry she had such a bad experience. I'd try to find the positive; you both were together and the event must of been fun.

The reason (thankfully) that much of the interior of north Florida and south Georgia is undeveloped is that vast tracts are national and state forests, wildlife refuges, and land owned by timber companies. (Go Gators!)
I'm with Jamie...that is an absolute nerve racking situation...its like me from Kansas City getting on the 405 in LA. Absolutely white knuckle experience..😋
Kevin, the Athens Varsity closed this week. They plan to build a new one elsewhere soon. I ate there in 2006 on a weekend trip home to Montgomery, AL from a programming project Columbia, SC. I've been going to The Varsity since 1972 and would occasionally speak with founder Frank Gordy. He seemed to be always present, overseeing the operations. The Varsity Downtown reopened for indoor dining last month and I stopped in for my regular order of two Chili Cheese Slaw Dogs, two Rings and a large FO with a Peach Fried Pie. No trip to Atlanta is complete without a stop at The Varsity.
If you need your right seat occupied for Sun-N-Fun, I’m there!
If "The Boss" says "It's the last time I fly into an air show", leave it be. Flying solo isn't bad. I kinda enjoy it. You'll need a car in Oshkosh anyway. Enjoy your content.
Hello Kevin! Now knowing you have a rusty screw has me fixated on it...lol. i have a 67 mustang that I put all stainless steel bolts and screws in so I look all the time for anomalies.
