Buying a Bonanza A36TC Sight Unseen and Flying It 2200 Miles Home!

  • We bought another Beechcraft Bonanza! We just purchased this 1979 A36TC sight unseen out of Florida, and proceed to fly it home 2200 miles in just 24 hours! We have bought two other Bonanza F33A’s so this makes our third Bonanza. This flight lasted 17 hours, a far cry from the few hour flight in our recently acquired Cessna Citation 501SP last video. What mods or upgrades should we do to this plane? Avionics? New paint, interior, engine?

I couldn’t understand why you guys always irritated me. Then just now I realized that I would loved to have spent my youth doing what you are doing in your youth. In college in the late sixties, early seventies, I used to fly taking flying lessons. At your age I was too busy working as a Probation Officer and going to law school. I kept putting flying on the back burner and finally at 36 I was made a Judge and again, flying was something I was going to do when I had a chance. But kids came and I never took flying off the back as I raised them working hard. Now I’m retired and could afford to buy a nice Bonanza and fly, but…. I’m too old to start from scratch flying again. So I watch you’all doing what I will have to wait till my next life to do. But, my life was a great ride in a different way.

Yeah, I was/am jealous too. Now I am getting money together to buy a straight leg Beech (slow), train and move to Bonanza. Please note how Jeffrey gives rides in his jet and has done so in his cars as well. His generosity combined with his intelligence, plus you almost never hear bad language. His brother and friends make a really nice team and they get their places in the spotlight as well from time to time. More generosity.

My grandfather worked on the Beech assembly line from 1951-1986. My understanding was that most of that time was spent installing windshields. He didn't fly, but he often wondered how many hours and miles had been logged looking through something he helped build. I think he would have loved to see cross-country Bonanza adventures like this. I know I do!

FYI… The turbocharger on this airplane, and the B36TC, are prone to cracking on the hot-side. I’ve replaced several of them over the years. The turbo doesn’t crack externally, it is an internal crack. Not particularly dangerous, more of a loss of efficiency. Overall, I really like the A36TC and B36TC. 👍🏼

No red beacon light anywhere on your new gal?
    That'd be something I'd add.
One on top of tail and another on bottom fuse below Captain seat.
Helps ground crew or people around plane are that you're about to start!
Put LED nav & strobe lights too?
It has LED taxi/land lights already.
    I've got a bunch of time in a 1968 V35 Bonanza.
We made all lights LED starting with taxi/land.
Ours had rotating beacon on top rear fuselage which was useless. We added another one under fuse.
They were dual colored red/white as ours didn't have wingtip Strobes.
    Three way switch.
    Off/GND (red)/AIR (white).
We also added a strobe on rear nav light that came on when AIR was selected.
Standard procedure became Land light on pre take off and keep it on for whole flight!
We also added Land lights on each main gear leg.
We'd be lucky to do 2 hours night flying a year but with them all on its like daytime!
B36 is a superb machine. Yours is a bit special having intercooler too.
Love the club leather seating too!
    Enjoy lads!

Not sure if you guys want yet another one, but my Dad is talking about selling his 1956 G35 V tail. Plane is gorgeous, and he’s a retired airline pilot. Located in Eastern Washington.

    Hi Bros,
That’s a lot more economic airplane than the jet you’ve shown in the previous vlog plus this plane is reasonable comfortable too.
Send you love from the Netherlands
