Having recently starting to wax my chains I came across your excellent videos and was particularly interested in your chain wear series. I bought a Birzman chain gauge specifically because it had the 0.5% indicator but having watched your other video I now realise this is over-reading.
However, it occurred to me that from your chain checker video that if the chain checker is close to correct i.e. 0.48% when reading 0.75% then that will be good enough. The Birzman chain checker is more convenient and quicker to use than my vernier caliper so that is the approach I will use. I haven't checked my Birzman chain checker with the vernier yet but will do so in due course. Thanks for the great videos by the way. 👍👍👍

Glad to get your feedback, Ashley! This is what I've been hoping for. That people watch the videos and choose a most appropriate personally method. And congrats on getting into waxing, it's another level!

as soon as possible or to use one chain on one bike with same wear: road bike new-0.5%, mtb 0.5-0.6%, and my wife bike 0.6-0.7%, so one chain can live around 10000km and no problems with skipping because chain is always in narrow specification of wear in compare to gears/rings

I bought myself the Pedros and checked my 12 speed shimano Deore chain after 4000 km and it reads .75%. Regardless what the say that 12 speed needs to be .5% I am changing mine regardless.
Why do they recommend higher percentage for 1 and 12 speed given they are narrower and lighter chains?
