"Beautiful Girls" is the song you're thinking of, Jay. "Girls, Girls, Girls" is by Motley Crue.
LOL, and they are worlds apart!
You beat me to it I was just getting ready to post it up got your girls confused lol
It was more fun when music could just be about girls, rocking, and partying! Maybe a ballad here or there. Good times
That's what I wuz thinking.i ain't that far gone yet
@@paul5926 OOOOHHHH
Never sleep on Alex Van Halen on drums. Very underrated
Criminally underrated!!
Totally agree!
The reason I changed from jazz to rock!!!
always loved the intro of hot for teacher, very memorable
VH couldn't have been as successful without every one of those guys doing exactly what you just heard.
Michael Anthony had THE best backing vocals in rock. PERIOD.
Great Choice.
Anthony was excellent. Roger Taylor would get my best for background vocal in a rock band though.
nailed it
Pay attention to how locked in Eddie is with his brother, Alex on drums. And Michael Anthony on bass is always so overlooked for what he contributed. His high background vocals along with Eddie's really are part of what makes up the Van Halen sound.
Alex opens up the ending by just switching to the ride cymbal.
Time has proven Michael's worth. Any music fan worth a grain of salt recognizes Anthony's contributions.
Van Halen’s road manager wrote in his book that he thought Michael Anthony was a subpar bass player. He couldn’t have been more wrong. His bass lines are so strong and glue together Eddie and Alex’s playing.
I always thought that Michael Anthony should have taken over lead vocals when Roth left. That idea was probably shot down because of the show. They wouldn't have been able to put on as great of a show without a separate lead singer.
I did an oral report in English about Van Halen freshman year.... the teacher was so pissed I always was doing everything on music lol, but I got an A!! She also told me she appreciated me picking a topic that kept the beastly classmates interested & not wilding out over boredom!😉😀
Dave had a voice coach when he was a teenager. That Voice coach had spent time in Auschwitz. He told Dave to sing every note like his life depended on it. And he said he always did
The boys are on point, the background vocals are a huge part of their sound The bassist Michael Anthony needs credit for the vocals.
Had the pleasure of seeing Van Halen and Quiet Riot with Randy Rhodes on guitar at a backyard party in 1977 before anybody knew who they were.... Both guitarists were fantastic that night.... Yes I'm getting old.... Great memories.
That's Awesome!!!
Man those were the days. Now age creeps up from behind lol. Just turned 63 man.
I raised my son on oldies and always asked him "who's this?" when songs played. I taught him to recognize old Van Halen by David Lee Roth's squeal!! A total, wonderful trademark!!
Have you done the trick question? Where your son is listening to a song and is like, "it sounds like VH, but...the singer sounds different, Dad..."
Very good my son, you recognized the sound, but they had ANOTHER singer later. Let's start with 5150...
Roth's perfect voice cracks and vocal squeaks and squeals were as much a part of Van Halen's iconic early sound as Eddie's incredible riffs. Roth is highly underrated as a vocalist even today, often being forgotten when people speak of the great rock singers of the era. Every time I listen to early Van Halen I am reminded of how great music was when I was a kid. Not a song of theirs that isn't connected to some nostalgic moment in my youth.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT We agree on more than Roth, Wilt IS the GOAT!
While Roth was a good vocalist, his showmanship and mere stage presence FAR outstripped his vocals and that's what people remember about him. And that's not a bad thing.
DLR is straight charisma
Yeah, bit unfortunately David Lee Roth got to thinking that he was Van Halen. Alex and Eddie had to show him the error of his ways.
@@DaRozeman 100%, even after the split. I caught his Skyscraper tour and that was a great show. climbing a rope ladder up to a giant boxing ring suspended in the middle of the arena to do Panama, then riding a huge surf board back to the stage while singing California Girls, just a fun show to watch. Steve Vai was his guitarist on that album/tour so that was an added treat.
When Van Halen's first album came out in 1978, it blew is away. I was like wow man. This is heavy. I fell in love with them immediately. Track I'd love to see you react to is " Ain't Talking 'bout Love.
You know your semi-good looking
My favorite lyric in Rock history 😂
Me too. That and/or Little Dreamer.
This is my favorite David Lee Roth Era song. So many great memories of good days. Michael Anthony and Eddie Van Halen background vocals are what really makes the bands sound.
Van Halen had many great songs, but this one is my favorite. Being apart of the MTV Generation we didn't realize how lucky we were with all the music genera.
Agreed. VH should not be overlooked as a great vocal group. Also, I remember being in the 10th grade in 1984 at a party and realizing Van Halen was the first heavy metal band (that I had heard) that kids could actually dance to at parties.
@@pattricklewis Van Halen was party rock (I grew up through their rise from the first album through to 5150, when Roth gave way to VanHaggar, both as the VH heyday). Motorhead, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest (Van Halen's contemporaries) were metal. Diamond Dave (Roth) liked making music with heavy guitar that you could dance to.
When this album came out, this was our Summer Album....played everywhere
Early 1979 ,,
The Cars and Police And Toto also big and new in 1978 And Blondie
This may be my favorite Van Halen song.😊
I remember dancing to this with a pretty girl named Marie way back in 1989. I had only been in the Army of a year and some change and got orders overseas to Ft. Clayton in Panama. Broke my heart to leave her behind.
Flash forward 10 years. We had moved on with our lives and I went to a local waterfront dance club with some friends. I scanned around the room and saw a pair of eyes looking back at me. It was Marie. We walked up and hugged each other and this song came on again.
We danced together again like it was just meant to be. Kinda erased all those years away.
I always get a happy feeling inside when I hear this song and think of Marie and wonder if she does the same when she hears it too.
What does your wife have to say?
Aww man! I thought you were going to say you two stayed together this time 🙁
@@dogsense3773She has fond memories and lost loves from her youth too. 😊
Perfect example of how great Eddie was at rhythm guitar and writing super catchy riffs.
Edit: Please consider reacting to Eddie’s solo song Cathedral. IMO, one of the most unique and beautiful solos ever written for guitar. He makes a six string electric sound like a cello. You won’t be sorry, and few reactors have it on their channel.
Needs to be watched live. One of the rare exceptions when I'd want a song reacted to live.
@@JoinTheProgress Ed included Cathedral in his epic solo from 1986 tour. But it's under the name Eruption (which is also included)
@@mattjohn4731 Yes, I know, thanks.
Van Halen has A LOT of great songs 🎵 👏 idk why but this one was always my favorite!
As much of an EVH fan as I am, it's great to hear you giving props to his brother Alex on drums. It's sad that he's so overlooked and underrated, but his grooves are pretty sick.
🔥 reaction Amber and Jay! Ain't talkin about love another nice one by VH!🙂
My favorite Van Halen song!
The most up lifting and fun song of all of Van Halens songs
My first concert was Van Halen, September 19th 1979. This album had just dropped yet but they played most songs off it. Grew up on this stuff. Great reactions you guys, keep it up!
Amber, you ARE a 70s girl through and through, just born too late to appreciate every single song and groups that the 70s gave us Boomers...My gawd, I miss the life back then and the music that fueled us along!😏😏
Great song! The Roth era is rich with them. I highly recommend And the Cradle Will Rock, Mean Street, Hear About It Later, and Hot for Teacher. Great drumming on that last one.
All of us old guys and gals are introducing you young people to what we think was the best music ever made in hopes that you can keep it alive for generations...We think it is too precious to just fade away...So you are our hope for the future of rock and roll... Love you guys!!!
Beautifully said!
"D D D D Dance the night away..." that guitar...RIP Eddie Van Halen, you are the king!
Ahhh, this brings back memories of warm Summer nights, sitting in my room with the lights turned down and the radio on blast. Van Halen was the ultimate windows open, full-speed down the highway music. Even now, if I close my eyes, I can almost feel the wind in my hair and I haven't had hair in decades! LOL Love you guys, look forward to your videos every day. ❤
....when VH wrapped up their debut album in 1978, I always remember that they had enough tunes ready for a 2nd album!! And .... VH2 was released not long after!! Maybe less than a year... So good!! And is it the "cowbell" of dance the night away...the harmonies...the drums & guitar. Dave's swag?? All good on this album!! Beautiful Girls might b what you're thinking...but also: Somebody Get Me A Doctor is a goosebump shred!!!
And The Cradle Will Rock!!! 🔥🔥
Love some Van Halen!!!
Always loved the feel of this jam. Fun, free, rock and pop. The band is perfect and the production is spotless ❤️✌️
Most people say "Jump" is their most commercially accessible song, but I've always thought this was the song that had the most mass appeal. Such a fun, upbeat, infectious song! The guitar sounds like a steel drum and then those bongo sounds in the bridge. And the vocal harmonies are off the charts! Just a different kind of song for them.
That falsetto scream is actually Dave using his "whistle register" technique. He supposedly has a 5 octave range (which is insane) and he can manipulate his vocal register in this unique way. Great reaction guys!
You said it - really defines high school - love their fun and high energy 🎸
One of the prettiest melodies I've ever heard any time.
For some reason what you guys said in THIS reaction made me suddenly totally understand why me and many others are drawn to y'all. Whoo boy, you are real and really don't care what others think. Sound philosophy for living! Thanks!
The drummer…Alex VAN HALEN, is under appreciated. Alex is a very talented drummer. You really need to find a video of Alex’s drum solos!
yes! As impressive as Eddie's Eruption
ALWAYS Love Van Halen Guys! One of my Favs here.... Get's You Moving! :) And Great Harmonies too!! So Glad You Guys enjoyed it too. :) Fun watching the Reaction! PS- Love the opening in this song, and then the drums HIT! :) RIP Eddie.
My absolute favorite Van Halen song with David Lee Roth as vocalist. This is summer to me, blasting it while driving down the road with the windows down.
Alex Van Helen(drums) is just as key to their sound, flow as Eddie ... Michael Anthony(bass) vocals and some of His bass riffs .... DLR shreaks are unmistakable. Good pick
This is one of my favorite songs by Van Halen 👍🏽💯
THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU… for recognizing the awesome drumming of Mr. Alex Van Halen my number one rock drumming God since 1979 As well as the phenomenal background vocals of magnificent bass player player and Eddie Van Halen together! That’s one of the top five reasons I have loved this band for so long!
when this band debuted nothing was ever the same.A much needed jolt to rock and roll
I love how you dance in your chairs! You two rock! 🙂
“Dance The Night Away” is the very first Van Halen song I ever heard, on FM radio in 1978, which got a LOT of play time in Central California! Not only was the song upbeat & fun, but it was also the first time that me or any of my friends had ever heard the groundbreaking “fretboard-tapping” style of guitar playing that Eddie Van Halen incorporated into his riffs, so effortlessly it seemed. None of us listening 44 years ago could figure out how Eddie was making those unique & wonderful sounds with his guitar, but we all saw it “up close & personal” the first time on Sept. 22nd in Fresno.. it amazed us all then, still amazes me today..
RIP Eddie.
Great job Alex, David, & Michael.. & of course, Eddie!
takes me back ....so hard. This era of music was sooooo emotionally triggering, plus I was around 13 - 14 yrs old, so I was nailing down some very solid "life long" ties and lessons. cheers
I'm so glad you gave props for Alex! That dude knows how to create the vibe for specific songs.
Great reaction! This album has a lot of different styles compared to their first album which was more hard rock/metal. They did a cover of Linda Ronstadt’s song You’re No Good on this album. They did a Roy Orbison cover of Oh! Pretty Woman on Diver Down and that album had a cover of Dancing In The Street and Happy Trails and Where Have All The Good Times Gone and Big Bad Bill Is Sweet William Now! In fact their dad played clarinet on Big Bad Bill!
I see how your mesmerised and hypnotized by Edward we all were too many many years ago once you start a listening to Van Halen you will never stop you will find yourself listening to it all the time
I couldn't believe it. The last time I heard this song on the radio was towards the mid-late 80s now I hear on the radio all the time. I guess it's considered a classic now😄😄😄
how does it feel to be old haha just kidding, love this song and van halen in general. I think the bass slaps especially in this rendition
@@l3ftie578 I am getting old I just turned 51 last month,
@@danielcarter305 you're a kid. I was a teen when this song hit the airwaves. and boy did it hit hard !!
Cheers for listening to literally the very end, that last perceptible vocal. No one else does.
There are only two things better than listening and enjoying music yourself is watching others do the same, and playing such music as a musician.
In the movie Mission to Mars there is a scene where Connie Nielson and Tim Robbins dance to this song in a gravity free environment. I believe they played a married couple amongst the crew on a space mission to the planet Mars. It was a very touching scene. I think Amber and J would like that movie especially now that they reacted to this song.
I just mentioned this movie myself in a comment. I love that movie and that scene. When they get back to gravity it’s all shuffling his feet and grabbing her butt.
Yes!! Just what I was thinking, too.
Michael Anthony's bass AND backing vocals are pristine!
Michael Anthony was such a huge part of that VH sound from day one. Such an amazing vocalist who's harmony skills and styles are so cool. He still works with Sammy, actually has been in a few bands with him.
Yes, defined teen years and more. First saw them at a back yard party in 1974 and many times on the Strip late 70's early 80's.
Like this great song, so much music in the 70s was upbeat, happy, hopeful and fun! Describes my teen years exactly! I thank God I got to be young in those days! Amazing times and amazing music to go with it! So much more freedom then! This was the first VH song I ever heard on the radio. Naturally I had to run to the mall and buy the record and the cassette for my 1972 Chevy Chevelle so I could cruise town blasting Van Halen! Lol
Van Halen still has so many amazing songs to discover. "Unchained", "Ain't Talking Bout Love and "Little Guitars" should be on your list. 😊
Ain't talkin' bout love is one of my favorite songs ever!!!
This is a 'feel good' song. If you're in a bad mood or sad mood, play this......you'll feel better
"The Cradle Will Rock" and "Hot For Teacher" are some more earlier Van Halen Bangers!! 🔥🤩🔥 I love the video for "Hot for Teacher"...hilarious and controversial which made us want it even more!!
Y'all should check out David Lee Roth's solo stuff. "California Girls" and "I'm Just a Gigolo" are a couple to start with.
This is always such a "feel good" song that is great for kicking off a party with family--setting out the food, etc
When I lived in the dorms in college, my neighbor had his alarm set to blast this every morning. I wasn't a metal fan, but I learned to like it in self-defense. That, and Back in Black was always playing somewhere on my floor.
Yes indeed !!!! Ain't talkin bout Love is an absolute must !!!! This is my youth !!!
"Girls, Girls, Girls" is by Motley Crue.....the Van Halen song you're thinking of is "Beautiful Girls"! And it's from this same album...VH 2.
This is really their first mainstream, AM radio friendly song.......YEARS before "JUMP"!
If you want to hear Eddies bit from this album (He pretty much had one for every album), check out "Spanish Fly"....it's using an acoustic guitar...short and sweet but really shows his talent!
I was up in OKC this last weekend and while I knew the odds were like winning the lottery I actually looked around while in restaurants or store, just in case our paths crossed. Amazing how many friends you have out here that you don't even know but feel like you are a part of our lives and bring smiles to our faces daily. HUGS
Girls, Girls, Girls is Motley Crue. Jump is Van Halen!
Thank you! 🤦🏻♂️
Alex Van Halen is the drummer. Eddie’s brother. Greatest band of all time.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT They're in the running for top 5,. Top 3 are #1The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Oh, by the way: WILT CHAMBERLAIN IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!! There, it's settled.
I always loved the intro to this song with the dull cowbell clank upbeat melding with the guitar riff and then dropping into the rhythm groove with the base and full drum kit coming in.
Also, the hammer tones on the guitar during the chorus.
Thanks for giving that shout out to drummer Alex Van Halen! He definitely gave this band its signature sound, along with brother Eddie's guitar! Vocalists were great, but interchangeable, IMHO.
This is the song that got me into Van Halen. Thanks for reacting to it!
1978 1979 Great time to begin ones teenage years. And to enjoy life itself ! My first year in high school was 79. Van Halen and to a lesser extent Rush. Were in the forefront of active bands. That was the soundtrack for many of us. In our high school years !
Like many when they arrived on the scene, we knew this was special. If you never played air guitar before Van Halen, you learned. The variety of music they've given us while remaining true to themselves is amazing as well. I love Dance the Night Away and can throw on Mean Street and be right there as well.
You need to make that line “she’s on fire” a sound bite for when any song is fire
She nailed it. It’s the drums in this song.
Van Halen songs 78/84 pure gold .
What a BEAUTIFUL girl - I love her enthusiasm and her chair dancing! And yes, this is a classic song FOREVER!
They did a great dance scene to this song in a movie with Tim Robbins “Mission to Mars”
Alex Van Halen on drums, excellent!! And Van Halen with David Lee Roth IS THE Van Halen, period!
One of a handful of rock songs perfectly at home in the roller rink! Great memories.
My favorite Van Halen song! Takes me right back to cruising the strip in my crappy AMC Hornet. 😄 Have they reacted to "Jump" yet?
I saw Van Halen in concert once and David Lee Roth explained what the song was about, he said “the band was playing a club and this couple were dancing and when they took a set break and went in the alley to smoke the couple was having a good time outside and when the couple saw them they quickly got dressed and the women had her pants on backwards the rest of the night and she danced the night away”
This was the very first VH song I ever heard. In the car with mom playing with the radio and ZANG! I was hooked! Still have my first poster from Spencers Gifts and all my cut outs from Circus and Hit Parader magazines stowed away!
NiGHT OWLS - The Little River Band 1981 guitars guitars super 80s song with alot of catchy tones it's so creative in ever way what a great lead singers voice along with some of the best music sounds made
Don’t forget the bass he is kicking ass and Michael Anthony has a tremendous voice and he’s the one doing most of the background vocals. This song reminds me of my mom when I was a young boy listening to this album this particular saw my mom like she would be dancing to it which I thought was so funny so now every time I hear it I think about her she’s not with me anymore but I’ll never forget her because I’ve never stop listening to Van Halen love you mom
"All my bills are paid, got it made in the. shade, all l na na need is the woman! Aw yeah beautiful girls! RIP Eddie, Yes, they defined my early years. Daviid Lee Roth hung out with the Lowriders, had a custom 49 Merc of his own .Dudes grew up in L.A.
Dancing The Night Away by Van Halen Charted On Billboard Chart on April 28, 1979 and it peaked at number 15
I broke into tears when you mentioned you had seen Foghat live. I danced my butt off everytime I seen them too. Love you both for reminding me of how much fun I had.
In 8th grade back in 1978 I got the 45 of this. I eventually git the album, I wore them both out. This is still my favorite Van Halen song.
I always thought if I ever made a movie about my life, this song would be playing during the scene of me as a little kid riding bikes with my friends in the neighborhood getting into trouble.
Coming from a teenager of the sixties. The only way to dance is dance like your all alone or with someone you love.
Guy's! Saw VH 6 times. Would camp on the sidewalk for days before tickets would go on sale so I could be up front. All with Dave! He came out to start the show and smoked a lil something with me. Then went into this song. NEVER STOP DANCING! Life is meant to be lived.
From Van Halen II released in 1979.
Loved it then and love it now This song is their homage to radio friendly pop-rock. Great reaction!
Me and my high school sweetheart LOVED Van Halen. Loved them even more when Hagar took over as lead.
I remember sitting in Spanish class...1978 and my my friend brought her cassette tape in and played this tune...we didn't learn Spanish that day. This song always reminds me of that
Yes, Van Halen was one band that defined my pre-teen and teen years ;) Since I've been watching your 80s reactions with the hair bands rock, dance, and pop bands, it just clicked to why we would go back and forth between the music lol.
I wore the damn grooves out of all these old vinyl albums back in the day. Awesome!
Music of my youth was great, & fun. But as far as being alive & living a cool life, the two of you as teachers & coaches of youth; kind, family first, & Most of all Loving parents & husband and wife, makes you great, free & beautiful inside and out.
And a Pleasure to see. God Love you guys.
This is the best VH song and one of the best pop rock songs of all time. 🎸
My soul just soars whenever I hear this song! Rock and roll is about feeling young, felling alive and feeling like you’ll live forever! And Van Halen does this for me!
The story behind this song is as epic as the song itself. Back in the day when VH was doing clubs they were playing a gig at the Whiskey-a-GoGo and there was a girl who spent most of the show dancing right in front of the stage. During the show the girl left and the boys could see her through a window having sex with a guy in a car parked outside. When she returned she walked up to the stage and just kept right on dancing…with her jeans on backwards. This song is about her. 😆
One of my favorite songs of Van Halen! My only complaint is that it's not long enough:)
The harmoies guy's the harmonies and roth mixed with mike was outstanding. This was the winning combo and of coarse the guitar god EDDIE F'N VH !!!
Full of energy and one of my favorite Van Halen tunes!
