      Their entire catalog has that edge! Obviously not EVERY song but the majority of it will stand the test of time for the most part. INCLUDING the Hagar era which I know you don't like. Maybe I'm wrong and if so I apologize.
      But believe it or not the Hagar era was superior all the way around. They grew up! The music was more sophisticated and intricate
      The Roth era was fun and raw and can't be duplicated either. Roth was an outstanding frontman who unfortunately got too big for his own good and basically kicked himself out of the band. Edward was done with cover tunes and David wasn't!
      Who did we think was gonna win that one?
      I'll give David this though, when they got back together and did those two songs on their greatest hits volume one in You Can't Get This Stuff No More and We Wise Magic it was like he never left! I thought he sounded great and I love those songs

    @patches6309 2 года назад +33

    The technique DLR is using is called a "whistle register" and he perfected it and uses it in a few of the VH hits. Many called it a "falsetto" but it is not, what you do is let the muscles in your larynx relax and the upper chest do the work of "reaching". It's very easy and doesn't use much air either unless you force it very loudly. You're "hiding" your chest voice by relaxing it and ring then you "ring the whistle" which feels like it's shelved on top of your chest voice. But it is very hard to master and few lead singers use it much hence it really does sound unique!

I got to tell you, as great as Eddie Van Halen was as a lead guitar soloist, he was just as good if not even a hair better as a rhythm guitarist. There are a handful of people on the planet that can do that and hit the intended note. It's a very, very rare ability.

    It always blew me away that Van Halen had such a good drummer in Alex, an equally good bassist who also provided crucial lyrically harmonies in Mike, one of the 5 upper-tier god-level guitarists in Eddie (EVH, Hendrix, SRV, Gilmore, Clapton), one of the most iconic lead singers ever in David……. and then somehow caught lightning in a bottle twice by snagging one of the all-time best rock voices in Sammy Hagar. Van Halen was so epic,

    David Lee Roth had a very unique scream, it was like a mixture of a falsetto and a whistle scream

    David does the “scream”. It’s an inflection on his singing style

    Vocal is HIGHLY underrated. He didn't have the greatest, pure, long-term voice. But in his prime, boy was GREAT.

    That is singer David Lee Roth is the guy doing the high pitch scream. Said he liked to do that as a kid, and then he added it to his songs.

    David Lee Roth the lead singer does scream, but the very high-pitched scream (bird call) you hear is the bassist Michael Anthony.

    So the part that kinda gets overlooked, and is probably underrated (about Van Halen) is the background vocals (of bassist Micheal Anthony, and Eddie) harmonizing with lead singer David Lee Roth. You might not even notice it. But listen to it again and listen for it. It's such an important ingredient in their music, like salt on your steak, but you might not even realize it's there. But when you hear it, you'll continue to hear it.

    you guys should by know that it IS David Lee Roth with the high screams. ☺ and his double active screams. Michael Anthony the Bass Player had a high tenor voice, his high voice is heard in the background vocals. So there ya go. ;0)

    Yep... as said before David Lee Roth (the front man) main singer entertainer is the scream. Michael Anthany (Bassist) is the high-end harmony singer.
