Jerry, 3M makes a lexan "security tint" for car glass. Clear or tinted, designed to prevent smash-in situations. Similar to the security laminate they for retail display windows. Don't know about bullets, but it stops bricks and bats cold.

And btw, there's no metal in the film, so it doesn't block cell phones or radios.

With all the car break ins nowadays I’m surprised that’s still not so popular here in the states. I remember having clear security tint on our vehicles working in an ngo in the Middle East and that thing looked like it could stop a 9mm

      @lyfandeth 3 года назад +1

@@scottykillmore7549 In the 90's an installer told me that tv camera vans often used it but their main use here was store display windows. There was an alert out to first responders and car owners about tints in 2017(?) noting that it made rescues harder too.

    • @kainhall
      @kainhall 3 года назад

@@lyfandeth so this is just a thin film of plastic with sticky stuff on one side?
like.... its gotta be thin enough to allow the window to roll up and down.... going threw the "seals" on the in AND out side of the glass
      .
i just dont get how thin film plastic would stop someone from smashing a window.... moving the broken glass out of the way
      and taking your crap
      .
like.... auto glass is "tempered glass"...... and ONLY the front windshield has a layer of plastic in the middle of two pains of glass
i could see this extra layer of plastic helping on the (already tough) front glass
      .
but how does it help on the side and rear windows?
      .
ok sure.... medical dudes say it makes it harder
      and i believe that
      .
      but.... how MUCH harder?
      .
what im thinking is..... all it would take is a 2nd swing.... and you will get past the plastic layer
again.... its gotta be pretty thin (to allow window to move)
so if you did the "hard part" and broke the glass....
      .
why is getting past a 1/32 inch sheet of plastic hard?
      .
like.... just hit it a 2nd time with the hammer (or whatever you are using)
      .
i guess it could "hold together" and want to stretch VS rip a hole
but still..... hit it again with the hammer (or rock, or fire rescue axe, ETC)
      .
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      .
idk..... i just dont see how a THIN piece of plastic would prevent a break in (or rescue attempts)
      .
i could see it if you had to remove the inner window seal from the door.... because the plastic is 1/8th inch (3 or 4 mm) thick
but not some 1/32 or 1/16 inch thick stuff.....
      .
still.... even 1/4 inch think (aka, as thick or thicker than the glass)...... it would 100% slow you down
but just hit it a 2nd or 3rd time..... or carry a sharp pocket knife....
      .
even locks and dead bolts will only slow a crook down...... lock picking exists, and its not THAT hard to do
so i dont see how this EVEN 90% stops crooks

My grandpa told me about a lad from his hometown who was a.rear area supply clerk during WW I'm in Europe. He got the bright idea to plug an M1 helmet with a .45 so he could pass it off as a war relic. When he shot the helmet he left the liner in it. The liner is supposed to lend extra rigidity. It worked because the 230gr. FMJ bullet bounced back a pealed a piece of bone out of the top of his skull. The man was sent home with a steel plate in his head and a discharge that was less than honorable. He lived but was never right in the head for the rest of his life. That is a gun safety story I've never forgotten about since I heard it over fifty years ago.

Hahahaha you’re a fucking idiot. Some of the top shooters in the world run Glocks. The CZ Shadow is used by 1/3 of the USPSA world, the next 1/3 is 2011’s. Most of the remaining, are Glocks, Berettas and Sigs...
I love sigs. I think they’re excellent firearms, even if the P320 wasn’t drop safe at first. But the Glock is a classic for a reason. I trust my life to my gen3 G19, just as many others have and still do.

We (LEO) were trained to use a car door as partial shield in a vehicle to shooter type of situation. The door was not 90 degrees to the shooter but held at a sharp angle while you took cover behind the engine block, door pillar and had the glass down. The angling of the sheet metal hindered penetration and tended to send the slug off at an angle after impact. You were to shoot between the door and frame while keeping low as you could.
