    I have Hashimoto's, which is a thyroid condition. I have learned over the years that it is very common for doctors to ignore or dismiss how a patient is feeling regarding their thyroid. Patients have to shop around and practically beg for a doctor to take their symptoms seriously. When they finally find someone who will listen, they work to adjust medication, and their symptoms improve. I'm not defending quacks, but when you're desperate, you'll listen to anyone who will listen to you and take you seriously. Thyroid function is still not fully understood, and almost every patient presents differently with different numbers. A lot of doctors will just look at numbers and assume you're fine when often the person is barely functioning. I had to beg my endocrinologist to take my hair loss seriously. She would look at my blood work and say, "oh it's normal, so you're fine. See you in 6 months!" She didn't care about me and my symptoms, she cared about the numbers. Yes, this is an anecdote, but almost everyone I've seen online or met in person that had thyroid issues had similar problems with doctors. No, don't take advice or supplements from a quack, but don't settle for doctors who won't listen.

      @@Stephmagnetism Yes I watched both and honestly the most difficult parts about carnivore is the ties to addiction to carbs and how normalized that is. In the end she said she felt better. A lot better, but she missed pasta. Missing a food isn’t the same as your body wanting that food because it’s healthy. Rather it’s because it’s addictive and pleasant aka as comfort food. If you haven’t noticed that comfort foods are usually very processed and evoke good memories from childhood like feelings of being loved because the food was often used like a pacifier to make someone feel comforted while dealing with uncomfortable things. But these kinds of foods are also the worst thing for someone with PCOS as the carbs create a cortisol response and that really messes with one’s health.
      Her only reason to not continue on a carnivore diet was because she missed pasta. Might be worth it to work on the diet and the mental stuff in tandem. Her Heath is worth it.

    I did the carnivore (lion) diet for 30 days religiously. I didn't experience a week of bliss like she did. I had stomach pain and liquid poops. I was craving rice and hot sauce (weird I know). After 2 weeks it got better and I felt amazing and by week 3 I didn't really care if I was just eating steak or not I actually felt the whole act of eating was annoying because I was bored LOL. HOWEVER this story isn't without issues. I was very hot all the time and whenever I'd wake up at night to pee or just in the morning my heart would be racing. In the 120s. I have a fitbit to prove this. I was told not to worry about it because my body was simply burning hotter. Mmhmm well this started to happen during the day too. Heart palpitations are no fun. I got to my 30 days, and gave up and ate some vegetables and fruit. I never lost weight by the way because I'm able to actually eat 2000 calories of fatty steak. In the long run I ended up heavier after I started back on carbs at 1700 calories. Yet I was still pissed for stopping because I liked how I felt minus the heart thing. All that to say carnivore diet isn't as romantic as some people say. Plant Chompers has a good video on the low carb topic. My heart was fine after being on carbs again for a weekish.

    • @KacieMarie
      @KacieMarie 11 месяцев назад +3

      you probably got heart palpitations because your body was getting low in electrolytes, which is common in the first few weeks of the carnivore diet. All you had to do was take in extra electrolytes.

      @faylinameir Some people also experience increased heart rate as a side effect of ketosis. This is also called heart palpitations or a racing heart. It can happen during the first few weeks of a ketogenic diet. Being dehydrated is a common cause, as well as low electrolytes.
      Significant electrolytes include sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, calcium, phosphate, and bicarbonates.
      Limiting your caloric intake can trigger heart palpitations. But you say you didn't lose weight, so that probably wasn't it. I'm curious, does that mean you were packing on the muscle? Since you were clearly losing water weight.
      Having low blood levels of magnesium after 2 weeks of diarrhea may increase the risk of having "palpitations," or premature ventricular complexes (PVCs), a type of abnormal heart rhythm that is quite common and typically not life-threatening.
      ...magnesium is in charge of regulating your heart's rhythm...

    • @LynnS-gd8wq
      @LynnS-gd8wq 10 месяцев назад

      I had an increased heartrate on carnivore. I added electrolytes - 2 per day to my water- and that went away immediately. The benefits have been weight loss- 30 lbs so far, 15 to go, blood sugar down to 80 the last time I took it from 117, blood pressure down which wasn't high but had been creeping up, no bloating or stomach issues except you do and I did have diarrhea the first couple of weeks which then stops, no issues going to the bathroom without fiber...the contrary I was having enormous bowel movements which were very uncomfortable with higher carbs and vegetables, I do sometimes have trouble sleeping because I have more energy that needs to be burned off but I haven't started a good exercise program due to long work hours but my body wants to move and do things, I couldn't have contemplated exercise before this diet, no aches and pains all over my body like I had before. On the downside, I do have psoriasis which was getting more severe a couple of years before carnivore...but it hasn't cleared up my skin. You are more full when you eat meat and don't have cravings for sugar and carbs at all or I don't. But you do still have to watch calories, especially women, because we don't need and don't burn as many calories as men. Long term, I will most likely try adding back in a few low carb vegetables and see where that goes after I reach my weight goals. I had tried 3 months of vegan before this and was miserable...constantly bloated, stomach issues, no way to ever get full, all I could think about was food, cravings out of control, weight gain because I had to eat so much food and was still hungry...always hungry. I can say from these 9 months I will always have a meat based diet.

They often don't properly test for that. Doctors, especially GPs, don't adequately test for or have the time, patience, or sometimes the knowledge to help with many non-standard, not easily diagnosable health issues. I had significantly more energy, lost weight and have kept it off while drastically reducing my insulin resistance, built more muscle and became leaner. How? By eating a vegan, whole foods, low carb, sugar free, high protein diet and working out regularly. Although the treatment of animals was the reason why I became vegan, how it benefitted my health was worth staying vegan. 10.5 years later and I could never go back to eating meat or dairy.

    I had to go on a low fat, low fibre liquid diet for a long time due to gastroparesis… as a vegan who can’t have gluten that was tricky at times but because it’s what I needed I didn’t find it hard at all. I gradually found treatments that worked well for me and naturally started to reintroduce foods to my diet, and my skin and allergy symptoms got worse. But my chest also grew and got tender, I got a variety of new unpleasant symptoms that I probably could link to the foods I’ve reintroduce but my common sense says that I’m better nourished, my hormones are fluctuating more and my body is learning how to digest certain foods that I haven’t had in years so of course I’ll have some unpleasant symptoms. I am still awaiting allergy testing to make sure but otherwise I will assume my body is adjusting and no food is evil or damaging for me. I won’t buy into any quackery, if you listen to your body you will work out what your body is trying to tell you and just trial and error things one at a time. I will always be vegan though!

    A former carnivore here.
    First thing that is a complete BS is that you are in deep ketosis on carnivore. You can be if you eat mostly fat. Otherwise liver will use amino acids to generate glucose. If one eats steaks only they are not in ketosis.
    I had bacteria overgrowth that would ferment any plant into alcohol in my stomach. That’s when I went carnivore. I’ve been a carnivore for almost a year but unfortunately my gut didn’t feel well although the rest of my body did. Now after multiple ways to stabilize my digestive system I eat heavily plant based keto. With fish as a main protein. Maybe I’ll eventually switch to vegan. But one has to be healthy to eat these grains and fruits. Because if you have bacterial overgrowth anywhere it will get worse.

I’ve had to leave all online support groups because they’ve devolved into a constant argument over how carnivore is the only “good” diet for us. It’s not. Elimination diets and medication are the only things we can do to help, but medication is risky for us so carnivore appeals as a simple “cure all”. She has some serious health issues and I feel for her, but she needs to go to a REAL doctor and if weight loss is her goal: start counting calories and cut out the foods that she reacts to. She buys into all of those 'ancestoral' bullshit, takes raw adrenal cortex (hi, BSE), but a day later shows a fridge full of Alani Nu energy drinks. Make it make sense. I'm also shocked she genuinely says it changed her life and she felt amazing when the whole video she is listing all of the ways in which she felt shitty. I've heard The China Study is a good one.
      Will be vegan 7 years this coming November. The best way of eating I've found is to just make what I would have normally made and substitute.
      Pasta and meat sauce?
      Just normal pasta sauce, and either cooked tofu, lentils, or some sort of meatless crumbles for the "meat"
      That sort of thing... I hope this helps. There's lots of recipes all over the Internet... And a lot of them are gross when they use alternative flours and sugars... So I'd recommend unbleached flour and sugar in the raw/raw cane sugar instead of white... Both are much better than almond flour and agave syrup (which can be expensive for baking).
      For making things creamy, my husband and I either use canned coconut cream (like for curry) or unsweetened soy milk (goulash, creamy pasta dishes). Oat and almond milk are terrible for cooking but good for smoothies 😂

She should be seeing an endo regularly with thyroid cancer, and I’m very curious what her endo thought of this carnivore doctor’s advice… there’s also a thing where typically you do gain a little weight after thyroid cancer; I don’t know if that’s the type of weight she is trying to lose, or if it’s more than that. The allergies complicate things for sure, but there is hope for the “hypothyroidism” (eg you do not have a thyroid, which I kinda classify differently in my mind… more like you need to adjust the med you already take than you suddenly discovered your body is doing something unexpected) outside of radical diets!

    Everyone is talking about an elimination diet in these comments... But the main reason for going carnivore IS an elimination diet. It is very rare to be allergic or react poorly to meats, yet for plants it's rather easy (even without knowing it). You are supposed to introduce foods slowly on the diet and then figure out what's wrong. Not enough transparency or information in this video. Ik ethics are a concern given this channel is about veganism, but still. Honesty is the best policy, and you should give a fair and thorough assessment of the pros and cons. Numerous practicing doctors are primarily meat-based, if not full carnivore, so there is definitely some substantive and meaningful science worth unpacking here. Also, it's odd seeing such a lack of awareness about electrolytes in regards to those who have tried the diet. A proper balance of magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium is CRUCIAL on this diet given the lack of carboHYDRATES. Same issue applies to keto. You absolutely must take electrolyte supplements, especially when starting. We don't drink mineral rich river water anymore (benefits are no parasites... But also less minerals!) and the meat itself has diminishing electrolytes due to soil depletion which is the nutritional basis of animal feed through grass and hay and everything that grows from it etc. I'm not saying go carnivore, but a lot of the comments are misinformed, as is this video targeting a clearly unhealthy creator doing everything she can to feel somewhat healthy again after trying EVERYTHING even veganism. Not a fair evaluation at all, and just seems exploitative in my op.

    People can knock her all they want but what the carnivore diet/way of eating is eliminating ALL foods that could cause inflammation. You have to understand that 3,000 years ago there wasn’t Walmarts, 7-11’s, processed food that had a 2 year shelf life. So saying there were vegans/vegetarians/carnivores everywhere is a lie, plain and simple. You ate what you could find near where you lived. I’m an omnivore after realizing there are essential fatty acids, and essential proteins but there is no essential carbohydrates. You can go your whole life and never eat a carbohydrate and be perfectly fine. I tried being a vegetarian because I loved animals and got to thinking they had souls. After working with trees and plants for years I came to realize they had personalities and awareness. I realized killing one cow a year might not be as bad as killing hundreds of plants. I also kept having kidney stones, two of which required invasive surgery. Anywho to each their own. You can’t knock someone for trying to not be in pain and feel normal.

      Congratulations for finding what works for you. One correction, to eat plants, they killed a lot of animals too in growing and harvesting the plants, so don't let them get away with it. There is no such thing as food without death.

    regular doctors train in nutrition for like half a day in their med degree and many of the students don't show up that day I have had doctors confirm this is generally true. Not sure why cite physicians on nutrition as if its law. There are actual PHD scientist who spend their career researching nutrition and people aren't listening to them (fyi they hugely favor whole food plant based diets)

      It's so sad that this isn't generally acknowledged when even MDs confirm this all the time.
      But we all saw crystal clear what people think of credible scientists during the pandemic 🙄

    I just eat the daily recommended intake of my macros and try to get rda of other nutrients.
    I tried low fat and low carb and both too difficult to stick to and I had cravings for the forbidden foods.
    Eating a balanced diet the biggest challenge I have is eating enough calories a day. It’s difficult to eat all the fiber you are supposed to have and keep consuming more calories. All of these miraculous cures they talk about I get from a normal balanced diet.
    One of the strangest things is my finger nails growing out of control.

    Having Dr. In front of your name doesn't actually mean you're a medical professional. Because naturopath's aren't medical professionals. And there are some skeezy "drs" out there in the world. You have to do your research. And you have to go with a dr who is board certified and has worked in the scientific medical field and whose phd lines up with actual medicine.

      The difference is that carnivores pretend that there are no nutritional deficiencies in their diet, while vegans communicate this very transparently.

    I totally agree with the main thrust of your video. One thing I question though is the assertion at the beginning that all different kinds of diets work about the same. That is no doubt true on average, but I do think there are individual differences, some people do better on different diets. If you look at any study on the effectiveness of a diet most people do better, some people do not. I am not at all saying that some people should be carnivores, more like maybe some people do better on lower fat diets, and some on lower carb diets. (I am not an expert of any sort.)

    I just wish that people who don’t know what vegan means stop referencing ‘the vegan diet’. There is no vegan diet. Vegans do not have the same diet.
    Being vegan is about reducing harm as far as practicable and acknowledging that these oppressed species deserve some fundamental rights.

    • @Killjoy_Mel
      @Killjoy_Mel 11 месяцев назад

      No, there is a vegan diet though. It omits all animal products, no? It's a specific diet that gets its name from the lifestyle that considers eating in a very particular way mandatory if one wishes to call themselves vegan. It's also a convenient shorthand, because 'plant based' is more a mouthful than just vegan, and more people are familiar with 'vegan' anyway. Language works in simple ways: it flows and takes the path of least resistance. The catch-all term 'vegan' is the path of least resistance.
      Are there other species in this world (besides humans, because we so very much like to see us as something that exists 'outside' nature, like an alien) that aren't oppressed, then? If we're going into semantics.

    • @robsengahay5614
      @robsengahay5614 11 месяцев назад

      @@Killjoy_Mel You can be plant based but not vegan so they are different. Vegan isn’t a diet. Whole food plant based is a diet, raw vegan is a diet. My issue is with people who don’t know what vegan means referencing the ‘vegan diet’ as in “I tried the vegan diet for a while”.

    A carnivore diet is probably salubrious because of the high amounts of vitamin B12. Just take more B12 if you are vegan.

    Agree with most of this. Plateaus in weight loss sure seems to be a thing though. Keep eating the same low calories, and in time the body protests and stop losing weight, even when there's plenty of fat left on the body. You will then have to eat even less to keep the weight loss going. It will also result in quick regain of weight even if eating a lot less calories than should be normal.

    I am not an expert in any way on the subject, but my son has hypothyroidism which was detected during his newborn screening blood tests 12 years ago. He has been on medication ever since and his levels are checked every 6 months. How does she think that she's had hypothyroidism her whole life and nobody caught it? Especially if she's had her levels checked since having it removed? It does not seem to be a difficult thing to determine....

    • @pithygrapefruit
      @pithygrapefruit 6 месяцев назад

      It’s impossible to have your thyroid removed and not have hypothyroidism. Thyroid removal requires lifelong thyroid medications. Hypothyroidism is missed more often than hyperthyroidism.

  • @jelatinosa
    @jelatinosa 11 месяцев назад

    Well, some people with hipothyroid do gain weight and have trouble losing weight, not just water weight, because our metabolism, like a lot of other things, is slowed down. Our gut is slowed down. Our heart rate is slowed down. For me, even my liver function is slower which makes it so I get jaundiced all the time. Sometimes our brain function feels slower and we get things like brain fog. When I was really bad, before I got diagnosed because supposedly my blood tests were ok, I saw a bus with words written on it, like the stops and whatever, and I thought how weird it was that there was a bus with arab or chinese characters on it, when in actuality they were in my regular latin alphabet, and was in Spanish(which is the native language). It took my brain several seconds to make it out, instead of being instant like usual. I was shocked, and it's what I used to beg to get proper testing for my thyroid, which I ended up having extremely high tpo antibodies, and a sonogram that proved I had actually been suffering from thyroidism for many years barely any healthy tissue left, and I wasn't "fine" like doctors kept insisting, and I wasn't exaggerating my symptoms for attention. Doctors *DO* suck at diagnosing thyroid issues, especially in girls and younger women.

    The carnivore diet saved my mother’s life. A few years ago she became very sick and was losing weight extremely quickly. She took all her doctor’s health advice. None of it worked. No matter what doctor approved diet she went on and how much of it she ate she lost more and more weight. She was becoming dangerously underweight and malnourished. She eventually became desperate enough to try the carnivore diet and fully eliminated everything but meat from her diet as a last ditch effort. She immediately started regaining weight and her energy. After several months on the carnivore diet, she slowly began re-introducing other foods into her diet and while she still has to be careful about what she eats, she is now able to eat a relatively balanced diet and is the healthiest I have ever seen her. I have seen too many peoples’ lives saved or drastically improved by trying this diet as a last ditch effort when nothing else worked to find people condemning it in this way reasonable. The lives of humans will always take priority over the lives of animals or the judgment of people like you.
