This reminds me of something you would take camping. I think a little butter on the outside of the bread may give a tastier product. I like the idea other commenters gave of making & folding your sandwich half before placing in the cooker.

Full sized versions of this product have been around for a long time, so far as I'm aware. They're campfire and fireplace cooking devices, and certainly seem convenient. The smaller size and non-stick surface of this product is essentially just for novelty for the most part. Functional enough, but less practical. I imagine other companies have made larger campfire cooking devices like this using modern non-stick materials for years now, but they're mostly sold from those specialty companies that cater to that crowd.

Those are a knockoff of the original pie irons that we used in Girl Scouts when camping (1960's). The handles were much longer. It was preheated in the campfire, open & use a stick of butter to butter up the insides (it sizzles), put in a piece of bread, filling (sandwich or pie filling) another piece of bread then hinge back which leaves some crust sticking out the sides when locked. Then back on the fire, the crust burns off and turned over and checked. When the crust is toasty it is ready to eat. They are yummy!

(Leftovers and PB&J are faves) However this can never work with fire it is short & non-stick which cannot stand fire.
On the other hand for a quick replica without a fire this would be great for a snack or kiddo. The hinge should be open, the bread filled then folded with the device assembled last.

No way to fix the resistance electric element problem, but using those plugs which aluminium cookware use to work on induction hobs, that would have been easily achievable.

This wasn't made for an American market, the bread usually used is much larger.
Its a mechanical device, so while the mechanism falls apart it's made for people who have practice doing so. There will be a learning curve involved.

Echoing what everyone else said. You have to assemble the item and fold it in half by hand first, then put it in the cooker. I have one of these I use for camping

@k8lynmae it is like the neck cooling fan that he has reviewed before. It has more ways, too cool and heat. You can see videos of it on Y.T.

So if they just advertised this as a camping gadget made so it could actually lock together. Maybe a bit bigger they might actually have something people would want.

Just the same old thing that’s been around for years, but just a slightly different shape. I used to use one of those for camping like 30-40 years ago to make sandwiches, grilled cheese etc. . Lol😂

I would have liked to see more different sandwiches tried. Put some ham and swiss in it. Maybe even make a mini calzone with some pepperoni and sauce.

this is an item that exists for no real reason it has no real use it just clutters up a utensil drawer until it is given away to goodwill or whatever

This is a kitchen utensil similar to what my grandmother had that she purchased during the "great depression." This not a new invention. When my nephew visits (13 years old) he asks me to make "Great-Granny's Rectangle Eggs." 😊

Please look up, Crimpit. It’s from England. They now have another gadget to make pita bread goodies. Like an UnCrustables maker but also for hot foods

I think this might go well in the morning while making your own breakfast, for that morning. Then later in the day for a pre workout snack after work

It is designed to easily come apart for a reason. The biggest reason is it's made for camping/outdoor use and it carries/stores easier in two pieces rather than one.

These things have been around for 50 years that I know of. I'm 62 years old, my father died when I was 12, and he either bought or made them. Too young to remember. They are great because you can put pie filling in or anything you can think of. Camping meals.
