As a previous fk8 owner, I regret selling it.. worth every penny over the FL5 in my opinion.

Could you give some reasons why you’d take the fk8 over fl5 if you were to?

Your comment implies that you currently have FL5 and regret selling FK8 for it.

Superb car. I can only imagine it’s down to Honda Type R black magic how they made a humble family hatchback into this absolute track monster.
With the FK8 it’s never been about super-fast 0-60 times and automatic transmission/4 wheel drive/launch control. It’s the last of the ‘simple’ old school front wheel drive manuals that can shame cars from a class above as soon as the road gets bendy.
Interesting fact: the Honda laps the Nurburgring 38 seconds faster than the BMW i8 I’ve just bought! I’m definitely not complaining though. After driving a Type R for two and a half years and as amazing as it’s shifter and steering is, I was yearning for a little more luxury, auto transmission and dare I say it, even more kerb appeal!
    Great appraisal James 👍🏻

I reckon a wider set of tyres on the i8 would really close that gap but I’m not surprised it beats it, it’s something else round a bend!
Totally agree on the luxury and kerb appeal, the i8 runs rings around the Honda in that department!
Thanks for tuning in James 😃

I think it was the old Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto who said "a reliable car is a beautiful car". Nowhere is that more true than the Civic. Yes, Honda in Europe as seen as frumpy and old hat compared to the glitzy Audis, Beemers and Mercs, but I know which will still be running after 150k miles and it isn't any of the German lot.
I've owned a 1.8 Civic for nearly 5 years and fingers crossed just about to make the leap to a 2018 Type R. I have absolute faith in Honda and the quality of their engineering, and just cannot wait! :)

Short answer yes get the fk8 but know what your getting into it’s not a luxury car it’s a sport hatch meant for the track

The thing with these cars is that Honda developed the chasis, trick front suspension and shell to be a Type R from day one. It shows as they are brilliantly engineered. Only downside is 4th gear lockout on some cars.

I've never had issues with the 4th gear, only from 1st to 2nd.

Never understood brand snobbery about the BMW badge, for example. They're absolute junk in my opinion. Give me Japanese engineering any day.
