Hello, So I just purchased the 27" QHD IPS 165Hz Samsung Odyssey G5 (LS27AG500PNXZA) new from Best Buy to use with my PS5 (January 2023). I am playing COD MW2 at 120Hz and 1440p resolution. I keep getting a white flicker that happens randomly maybe 5-10 times per hour on average and each flicker lasts anywhere between 1 and 3 seconds. It has flashed other colors a few times, but mostly bright white. It's like getting flash banged randomly and is incredibly jarring. Naturally, I Googled this.... and found people saying to update ether firmware.... So I downloaded the Firmware update Version 1007.0 (0.83mb) from Samsung's webpage to a USB drive. I plugged the USB into the monitor and went to Menu --> Support --> Software Update, where it says that I have version 1007 already. I tried to install the file from the USB anyway and it said "The software version of the deice is later than the software version of the update file..." So, clearly this isn't a firmware problem (at least not with the monitor. Maybe the PS5??). So I moved on to the cable.... The HDMI cable that comes with the PS5 is a high speed HDMI 2.1 cable. It should be able to handle 1440p at 120FPS. I tried another HDMI "high speed" cable (one that came with a 4K 60Hz LG monitor that I bought a few years ago) anyway just to see what happens, and I'm still having the same issue. Is this an HDMI cable problem or something else? A VRR problem? In the PS5 menu --> Screen and Video --> Video Output, there is an option to enable VRR. However, when you try to do this, it says that VRR only works with 1080p and 4K, and it recommends changing the output. but.... you can't do that with the G5 as far as I know. It's a 1440p monitor. So.... any advice on how to resolve this problem? I know that 1440p support is relatively new to PS5. Maybe this is the issue? Anyone else have this issue and fix it? Thanks.

I didn't know it was available on the g5. But if it is, then a firmware update might be necessary. Check the Samsung website for the latest available firmware and compare that to what you have on the monitor.
For sure that is always a good option. TV's are nice for quality pictures and especially the OLED. But being closer to the screen and having a smaller screen can be a huge benefit too.
hey man, great video. i have an issue with the g5 monitor on the Xbox series S. when i play games on 1440p, it just downscales the 4k, which causes everything to look very blurry and untextured when playing games. when i switch to 4k, it’s crisp but i don’t get to take advantage of 120fps. is there any way to stop the blurryness of the games when i run on 1440p?

@@davidsalsberry5748 I have a solution that worked 100% for me. First I tried unplugging every cable and pushing them back in as hard as I could. Still happened. After days of trial and error, switching the monitor from 120hz to 144hz fixed it 100% for me. Idk why this is but on console specifically, only the 120hz option on the monitor was flashing black and white. Hope it works for you, mine hasnt done it since.
Hi! I bought the Odyssey G50A with 32" Flat panel but why my Ps5 doesn't accept the 1440 resolution? In options i only see 1080p 60 hz and there are not upgrades in the website. Thanks!
That is a great question. You will have to ask Sony about that one. They do offer 1440p support for "some" monitors, but it only means that the console will actively downscale 4K resolutions, not actually output a native 1440p signal.
I personally feel like that monitor isn't smooth on the series x when I go back to a 1440p or 1080p monitor it just feels more fluid not stuck in the mud honestly I just don't think the series x is built for 4k I could be wrong on tv in feels smoother but that's my oled right now I'm rocking a 27 1440 p msi monitor and I'm waiting for the samsung g50 . But yhe lg 950 may be a good match for the series x I'm just not spending 900 dollars on a 27 inch monitor. These are my thoughts
If you are going for best motion for the money, try to find a 1080p 144hz or higher monitor that has high reviews. Don't get me wrong, I think the G70A provides good motion, but it is for that high fidelity too. So spend less and get something that is just as good or better with motion.
So is this a good option for my ps5? If not, what could be a good option for it? I still can't figure it out. I wanna get to play on 120fps in some games on my ps5
I would look for something different. Here is a list of the monitors I have reviewed for console. ruclips.net/p/PL3_GjWZgNx1jFLULA3vWfPlj1A2Mj8EKK Hopefully this list helps.
Picture does not run all the way to the edge so there is no way I would buy it for sim racing since want a triple screen setup. Only good if want to run single screen.
It didn't play much of a factor. I did notice that AV was better for 4k content (streaming) and slightly better HDR, while PC was better for everything else.
I like you and your test videos :) Can you help me please!? which Monitor is the better one for 250€ samsung odyssey g50a or lg27gn800? Thank you, have a nice day.
Should I buy this G5 monitor at 279.99 or should I go for the G7 at 579.99? I currently own PS5 and series x and in the future I'll possibly get a PC but as of right now just the gaming consoles
I wish I would have replied sooner. If you have $1K in consoles and may buy a pc, the G7 is worth it. If you are rocking the XSS and nothing else, it is probably overkill. But your screen should be able to live up to the potential of your current equipment and allow a good upgrade path. I get the argument though, sometimes 4K is overkill and unnecessary.
I have not used that monitor so I am not sure. I would check my playlist around console gaming monitors and see if you like one of the ones I have reviewed. ruclips.net/p/PL3_GjWZgNx1jFLULA3vWfPlj1A2Mj8EKK
So does everyone recommends me to buy this monitor for my Xbox series X ? Give me your input everyone, thanks in advance, and can I turn on hdr and turn on sdr? Do I have that option
The monitor doesn't really control the HDR settings per se. The console will determine whether or not HDR is on, but it does auto switch if the setting is on. That being said, if this guy is on sale....100% I think it is worth getting and high on my list. But if you want a very solid alternative, check out the Gigabyte M32Q or M27Q. ruclips.net/video/z4b_thlsxXo/видео.html
If budget is an issue, then it is a good option for that....depending on your setup. If you really want to go 1440p, then it should be in your top 3 for a budget conscious monitor. But I would keep an eye out for the M27Q, see if that drops in price as well.
i bought it this morning but I'm seeing the gigabyte g27qc has all the same specs except it has 2 HDMI and USB hubs for 40$ and now idk of i made.the right decision...whats your opinion?
Might be a bit overkill with the refresh rate. It would work, but may be more than necessary. For that price I would look at the 3 monitors I recommended at the end of the video (also in video description). They are priced well and good in performance. So is this monitor, but unless the G50A is on sale, there are better monitors for the $$.
Like you have their soundbar? If it is the LG soundbar with hdmi connections and hdmi switching, then you do it through the hdmi connection to the soundbar (xbox to soundbar in, hdmi out to the monitor). If it is not through hdmi, then you would use the 3.5mm output. But most soundbars don't have analog (3.5mm or RCA) inputs anymore, so that probably isn't the case.
So Xbox doesn't allow HDR in 1440p currently. There may be a fix at some point, but at this point there is no timeframe for it. But 1080p allows ful 1080p HDR 120hz and VRR with this monitor.
not sure if you can help me, but i got this monitor about a month or 2 ago and it works great. the only issue i have with it is, at random times the screen will turn white or black or sometimes even green blue or red. i tried messing with the color settings and it sort of fixed the problem, but at times still still turns the whole screen either white or black. do you know what could be causing this?
Hey thanks for the question. I definitely have heard of others experiencing that. First off, make sure you have really good connections and cables. Having a proper cable and snug fit seems to be a solution out there. Next would be to update the monitor and pc/console to the latest firmware/software available. If you are still experiencing the issue, try resetting all of the settings on the monitor, unplug it from power for 30 minutes and retry. If none of that works, contact samsung for a warranty exchange.
@@vZurko hey did you ever figure out what was causing that? I just picked up this monitor today and I’m having the same problem. It’s happening 2-3 times every 10 mins or so while playing games, but still happens while at the Home Screen once every 10 mins or so. (On series x)
@@davidsalsberry5748 yes i did. you had mentioned something regarding the outlet i believe being nice and snug and mine wasn’t really that good at keeping the monitor cable plugged in nice and tight. i bought an extension outlet which i plugged into the regular outlet and had like 3 extra outlets, which fixed the the issue entirely for me. ever since then, i haven’t had an issue with the screen flickering at all

If I get a monitor which has 165Hz will it work with ps5 120hz will need to have HDMi cable 2.1?does monitor have to be 2.1 HDmi ??
If you watch the console reviews, I cover that topic. You will see it in all console reviews I do.
What monitor would you recommend? I definitely don't want any motion blur. I play run and gun constantly.

@@BainCustom Kind of helps. I was hoping you could just tell me what monitor you thought was best. I did so much research yesterday my head is still spinning.
Good video, I’m going to buy the gigabyte m32u tomorrow as I just bagged a ps5, do you think this is the best in its price range?
For sure. Yeah gigabyte has been nothing but good to me. I have 3 top choices for 4k HDMI 2.1 and the gigabyte is in it. Good luck and GG!
So it does support VRR it's just the PS5 doesnt support it with this monitor? Kind of a downer but i play on PC mostly anyway and most of my ps5 games only go up to 60 fps anyway
the ps5 does support it on this monitor now. At least from what I have read online.
Any update of this monitor for ps5? Its on sale right now
On WARZONE did you change the in-game settings of Motion Blurr to off and turn the Film Grain to 0 ?
I always do! I can't stand the motion blur setting.
Okay nice - I was just making sure .. think I'll get either the LG 950 or S70. Thanks for the video 👍
Anyone who drums on desks with their fingers is a friend of mine!
Please someone answer fast! Should i buy this or LG 27GN800P-B IPS HDR ??
Just got a g52a , do i ned to do a firmvare uppdate? I se that vrr not working on ps5
I didn't know it was available on the g5. But if it is, then a firmware update might be necessary. Check the Samsung website for the latest available firmware and compare that to what you have on the monitor.
What changes if I put 1440 or active the voice allowed 4k? Is it actually 4k?
I got an lg c1 65 wich I use but when they are watching movies I'm considering this definitely
For sure that is always a good option. TV's are nice for quality pictures and especially the OLED. But being closer to the screen and having a smaller screen can be a huge benefit too.
Whats the best settings for this tv im playing a ps5??
i bought the odyssay LS27AG500NUXEN and i wonder if i can play fortnite at 120 fps and im on a ps5 and its 165 hz
01:22
hey man, great video. i have an issue with the g5 monitor on the Xbox series S. when i play games on 1440p, it just downscales the 4k, which causes everything to look very blurry and untextured when playing games. when i switch to 4k, it’s crisp but i don’t get to take advantage of 120fps. is there any way to stop the blurryness of the games when i run on 1440p?
Have you tried turning off the “allow 4k” option in settings?
Well I have the same issue… using HDMI but I just got a DP adapter and I’m playing around whit settings to see if I can fix this I’ll let you know
@@kevinbaezrodriguez9557 it’s never gonna scale perfectly and here’s why
FHD (1080p) is 1920 x 1080 = 2073600 (2.07 megapixels)
UHD ( 4k) is 3840 x 2160 = 8294400 (8.29 megapixels)
UHD is exactly 4x the resolution of FHD.
HD (720p) is 1280 x 720 = 921600 (0.92 megapixel)
QHD (1440p) is 2560 x 1400 = 3686400 (3.69 megapixel)
QHD is exactly 4 times the resolution of HD
UHD / QHD = 2.25.
Turn down to 1080p
Higher resolutions just allows you to be closer to the screen before pictures become pixelated/blurry.
After certain distances 4k and FHD have the same image quality.
For 32”
4k allows you to sit 3 - 4 ft away.
FHD allows you to 4 - 6.6 ft away.
It is just the "allow 4K' option like Christina said. Uncheck that and you will be in business. Then check it again if you want 4k back.
Did you fix the problem? Do you suggest this monitor for Xbox series S?
Can we attach external speakers to Odyssey G5 and use it as a display..?
Absolutely! I have mine set up on cheep dollar tree speakers and just plugged them into the back of the monitor (headphones/aux outlet)! They light up so it makes the setup look clean and I only bought them when friends come over to play it when my wife wants to game so the headphones only get used by me Lmao
Is the update the same for the m32u and m28u??? Wrong video for the question but still.. ty
It looks like they are the same.
Yeah, they have both received the same updates at the same time. Still, I would download the file from the 32 inch page just in case.
@@BainCustom i gotta be missing something because i checked the m32u page and theres only one file from aug last year definitely not the same update.. thats why i ask. With my luck id brick the monitor 🤦♂️
Been using this for 3 weeks and the screen goes black and white on each side and exchanges something use it with xbox series x . Tried the dell 2721dgf on sale for 299.99 it's smooth and color ful and motion. Does seem better.
Ever figure out why the screen was doing that? I just got one today and the whole screen turns white pretty often. Like 2-3 times every 10 mins or so
@@davidsalsberry5748 no I didn't tried every thing swapped it out and same thing so I just returned it.
Does this monitor support 1440p 120hz on Xbox series S? How does it cost right now? Is there a 2k IPS monitor better than this?
01:01 - I think I talk about the performance on the XSS around here and then I cover some gameplay around 05:10
It is now supported, check update. FYI.
turn off the freesync
Does this work at 1440p, 120hz for the ps5 following the September update?
I believe it does. But I didn't get the chance to test it.
@@BainCustom have you had a chance to test this yet? It’s affecting if I order it or not 🙏🏻
Any up date my ps5 is stuck at 60hz
@TheBCShow100 did you find a fix? I just bought this
Is the g70 worth for Xbox series x competitive game like cod looking for best competitive monitor which I can see far away like in vanguard
@@BainCustom I guess you don’t really like the g50A?
So is this a good option for my ps5? If not, what could be a good option for it? I still can't figure it out.
I wanna get to play on 120fps in some games on my ps5
I would look for something different. Here is a list of the monitors I have reviewed for console. ruclips.net/p/PL3_GjWZgNx1jFLULA3vWfPlj1A2Mj8EKK
Hopefully this list helps.
@@BainCustom thanks man, great videos! New sub and keep up the good work! :)
@@BainCustom do you still think so now that ps5 announced their new update will bring 2k support?
Picture does not run all the way to the edge so there is no way I would buy it for sim racing since want a triple screen setup. Only good if want to run single screen.
it's possibile to play on series x with freesync in 2k?
What monitor did you enjoyed more this or the LG 27gp850?
Oh, for sure the GP850. I shouldn't be too harsh on Samsung, but they are not even in the same league with this monitor.
active hdmi pc or av xbox série x? thanks 😊
It didn't play much of a factor. I did notice that AV was better for 4k content (streaming) and slightly better HDR, while PC was better for everything else.
im capped at 100hz on the monitor settings and also cannot turn on freesync anyone know why?
What monitor? This one? What system are you running and what is telling you that you are receiving 100hz?
I like you and your test videos :) Can you help me please!? which Monitor is the better one for 250€ samsung odyssey g50a or lg27gn800? Thank you, have a nice day.
I would normally lean toward the LG. But it is an older model, so it has less features for console. If you are console, snag the G50.
@@BainCustom ok, thank you very much :)
Can you do a updated g50a ps5 best settings they have updated ps5 setting hella and I’m confuesed as shit
Should I buy this G5 monitor at 279.99 or should I go for the G7 at 579.99? I currently own PS5 and series x and in the future I'll possibly get a PC but as of right now just the gaming consoles
It would be overkill imo. G7 offers way more fps but consoles are capped at 120fps (for the Xbox series). So go for that g5 g
@@BainCustom I'm glad I didn't get the G7 because now OLED gaming monitors are coming out. I'd much rather have that technology
for some reason my screen goes black randomly during gameplay. anyone have any solutions or recommendations?
hola creees que es una mala compra un Samsung Odyssey G5 27 ?
Hello sir I'm from India this moniter

Why not video abt Samsung g7 27/32? Pls
The g7 or g70? I have done the g70a.
Is this the same as the G51c?
Samsung, LG, ASUS, BenQ, MSI. Which one would you buy?
All of them honestly. Asus and MSI would be last on my list. But the other three, I have purchased many models from.
is there maybe a firmware update?
In series x with this monitor and on rust the grass looks real bad pixels and lots of blur any way too fix this ?
Rendering on rust it struggles to and feel stuttery
So does everyone recommends me to buy this monitor for my Xbox series X ? Give me your input everyone, thanks in advance, and can I turn on hdr and turn on sdr? Do I have that option
The monitor doesn't really control the HDR settings per se. The console will determine whether or not HDR is on, but it does auto switch if the setting is on. That being said, if this guy is on sale....100% I think it is worth getting and high on my list. But if you want a very solid alternative, check out the Gigabyte M32Q or M27Q. ruclips.net/video/z4b_thlsxXo/видео.html
If it's not 4k xbox don't do hdr for some reason idk why
Is there any differences between this one and the G51C? I just ordered it and now I’m worried about this double image
@@sqdmlkrthanks mate. Info was very helpful. Very much appreciated.
Let me know if you found anything out cuz there is not many videos on this model
Ive been all day watching monitor vid, do u think this is a good buy for 265€? I know u think the LG is better but it’s more than 100€ extra
If budget is an issue, then it is a good option for that....depending on your setup. If you really want to go 1440p, then it should be in your top 3 for a budget conscious monitor. But I would keep an eye out for the M27Q, see if that drops in price as well.
@@BainCustom Would u say the Samsung is better than the HP x27q??
Does it run at 1440p without hdmi 2.1 on ps5?
i bought it this morning but I'm seeing the gigabyte g27qc has all the same specs except it has 2 HDMI and USB hubs for 40$ and now idk of i made.the right decision...whats your opinion?
Well. They are two different types of monitors. So they aren't really considered equal. Are you console gaming or PC gaming?
@@BainCustom console gaming sir
What do you think about the Acer Predator Xb237u for series s?
Might be a bit overkill with the refresh rate. It would work, but may be more than necessary. For that price I would look at the 3 monitors I recommended at the end of the video (also in video description). They are priced well and good in performance. So is this monitor, but unless the G50A is on sale, there are better monitors for the $$.
@@BainCustom I was looking at the G7OA or the regular g7
how is the best Monitor for Xbox series s?
how do you hook up speakers to this monitor?
I have a LG home theater
Like you have their soundbar? If it is the LG soundbar with hdmi connections and hdmi switching, then you do it through the hdmi connection to the soundbar (xbox to soundbar in, hdmi out to the monitor). If it is not through hdmi, then you would use the 3.5mm output. But most soundbars don't have analog (3.5mm or RCA) inputs anymore, so that probably isn't the case.
Is it possible to attach external speakers through 3.5mm headphone jack?
Would you pick g7 or g5 monitor for series ?
The series s? There is a strong argument for the g50 on the series s for sure. So probably that one.

Can you use Xbox in 1080p or 1440p in 120 with hdr ???
I just got a msi and seems better on my ps5 as it auto goes 1080p hdr at 120 with vrr on
So Xbox doesn't allow HDR in 1440p currently. There may be a fix at some point, but at this point there is no timeframe for it. But 1080p allows ful 1080p HDR 120hz and VRR with this monitor.
@@BainCustom I was think about the Samsung but went with the MSI - MPG Artymis 273CQR I did try it at 1080p but no dice with the hdr
not sure if you can help me, but i got this monitor about a month or 2 ago and it works great. the only issue i have with it is, at random times the screen will turn white or black or sometimes even green blue or red. i tried messing with the color settings and it sort of fixed the problem, but at times still still turns the whole screen either white or black. do you know what could be causing this?
Hey thanks for the question. I definitely have heard of others experiencing that. First off, make sure you have really good connections and cables. Having a proper cable and snug fit seems to be a solution out there. Next would be to update the monitor and pc/console to the latest firmware/software available. If you are still experiencing the issue, try resetting all of the settings on the monitor, unplug it from power for 30 minutes and retry. If none of that works, contact samsung for a warranty exchange.
@@BainCustom thanks for the comment i appreciate! do you think it would have anything to do with the monitor settings?
@@vZurko hey did you ever figure out what was causing that? I just picked up this monitor today and I’m having the same problem. It’s happening 2-3 times every 10 mins or so while playing games, but still happens while at the Home Screen once every 10 mins or so.

How do you get the sound out of the console?
You have 3.5mm jack on the back od the monitor

Hey have u tested the Asus ag28uql1a? Is so for strictly ps5 and pretty much warzone only what monitor would u go with if u had to buy one tomorrow and they was all the same price?
I have not had the chance yet. I do plan to grab a few more 4K monitors in the next few weeks. But my pick right now is the G70A, from what I have tested. Although I would go for the Acer VX282k if it is still on sale for $649.
Can u say the sane thing vs the ps5?
More than likely. It is hard to recommend a 1440p monitor for ps5 honestly, but there are some that are solid.
This monitor is suppose to have hdr support on series x right? I can’t figure out how to get it to work
It is a setting on the xbox, not the monitor. Just be sure the game is HDR and the setting for xbox is turned on.
