2:18 the sticker on the back of the TV that says 60hz is NOT telling you the screen's refresh rate, it's telling you the frequency of AC power that the TV is suited to. In the US it's 120v 60hz, but in Australia for example it's 240v 50hz.

there aren't even any games that run both at 4k and 120 fps. Almost every game with a 120hz performance mode will force you into 1080p. Everyone is getting so worked up about it but AAA games on console hardware can't even keep a stable 60 fps while playing in 4k. The hardware is impressive, but still not capable of running games at 4k 120 even if they wanted to. When it does, it does so by dynamically scaling the resolution down anyway to maintain stable framerates during graphically intensive scenes or moments in game. Even on PC with a RTX 3090, 4k 120 fps gaming is still a pipe dream unless you use tricks like DLSS and turn down your graphics settings. But by doing so, you are no longer really playing in 4k, it's just upscaled lower resolution that is pretending to be 4k.

    • @DarrinLin
      @DarrinLin 2 года назад +12

@@marcquinn8230 it will depend on your budget and desired setup (sofa gaming vs desk gaming)! I think Sony Bravia TVs are very future proof and have automatic HDR tone mapping with PS5 and intelligently switches between game and movie modes depending on what you're doing on the console. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. LG also has some really nice options that support HDMI 2.1 and variable refresh rate. But if you have a stricter budget you should just know that 99% of all games won't take advantage of 120 Hz while in 4k. So you can save some money buying a 4k 60hz tv and it's perfectly fine. You shouldn't feel like you are missing out on your gaming experience at all. I think in order of importance you want in a TV for great PS5 gaming experience:
      1. Low input latency and fast response time (as low as possible)
      2. HDR10 certified (at least 1000 nits peak brightness)
      3. at minimum 120 hz refresh rate at 1080p

What you are not mentioning is the image quality of the screen. Monitors are far behind TV's in image processing and HDR quality. To buy a good quality monitor with good HDR 4k @ 120 you will be paying as much as a tv. Many high end monitors use IPS panels which are garbage for contrast ratio. OLED prices are coming down as well, you can get a 43 or 48" OLED that will blow away any 2.1 hdmi monitor likely at the same price. I personally prefer gaming in my lazyboy (better on my back by far) and use a 48" LG CX closer up and it is perfect. I already sit in a uncomfortable chair all day for work, I want more comfort when gaming long hours after work. Just my opinion, I have done both but the OLED TV's are king for gaming.

Ok, but one serious question. If money isn't an issue, what is the best option for the fastest response time in FPS gaming:
    1. Is it a 4k 120+hz?
    2. Or is it a 1440p 120+hz?
I ask this because I saw your video where you recommended not to use 4k because of the actual "horsepower" the PC needs to be able to handle it without affecting the performance. That's why I ask this question. Did anyone test this yet, does PS5 has that horsepower to be better in 4k 120+hz vs 1440p 120+hz?
    Thanks,

Its so crazy that his first statement that he says is that consoles are being used to play in a person's room rather than in the lvingroom. My roomate and I bought consoles just so we can play in the lvingroom. I dont think that statement is viable consdiering that most people still consider consoles as being consumed around people. At least that is how i see things. . The main issue is that there are barely any couch coop games to play anymore

Honestly all it is, is REACTION TIME!! On a monitor you will have a way faster reaction time on a monitor because of focus your eyes will be on the closer and smaller screen.

This is because all the kids that were playing Atari and ps1-2-and 3 are now in their late 30s 40s and early 50s and have their personal game rooms, I’m 43 and I’ve been gaming since I was a kid.

I might be wrong… but at 2:20 where you say the back of the TV says 120v 60Hz, I’m fairly certain that’s to do with the incoming AC voltage frequency that your country supports, like here in the U.K. we run 240v 50Hz

after a long day of work in the monitor the last thing i want to do is keep on that chair i don’t care if it’s ergonomic, i just want to jump into my coach and love that comfort, at the keyboard and mouse i mean it’s cool (better aiming, mechanical switches bla bla) but they will never have the immersion of the vibration and now with the adaptive triggers.
Mossy gammers are just casuals and will never get a competitive level, most people won’t play 8 hours daily or more

I actually don't mind getting 60fps in 1080p, since the only console I used to own was a 3ds

The ratings on that TV for 120V and 60 hz has to do with the power source. In North America we have AC voltage of 60hz. That 60 hz has nothing to do with the panel display. Js

If you're playing a competitive game, then probably a monitor but if you're playing casually then a TV should suffice. Most the time I play on my OLED but once I decide to play Apex, Fortnite, or COD I fire up the monitor. Smaller, up close and better frame rates.

There are exceptionally few games the PS5 can play at 4K AND 120FPS. The PS5 CAN render a game at 4K BUT this will come at the cost of a capped 30FPS. Many games can be rendered at 1440p with a frame rate UP TO 60FPS but the catch here is the term "up to". In reality you either get to play at 1080p and 120FPS OR go for a 4K at 30FPS. This means that the best gaming monitor is a 1080p 144Hz. The games that can be played at 120Hz will play at 1080p. The games like eg Rise of the Tomb Raider will be able to run at the equivalent of 4K DSR which means the image quality will be way better due to Down Sampling (also called Super Sampling).
