I ended up spending $600 on a 34" 1440p ultrawide monitor from LG last year. I probably spent more than I needed to, but overall I'm very happy with it.
Nice one, I honestly think with monitors it's best to buy from established reputable brands for good warranty and customer support. A lot of, if not all of these cheap brands buy their panels from Samsung so you end up getting leftovers that didn't pass the quality tests. 2 of my friends who cheaped out on monitors ended up with dead pixels out the box
Recently bought a 27inch 1440p 100hz IPS Lenovo on sale for £150 (wouldn't recommend at £199 MSRP). External display from laptop for work first and gaming second. Nice monitor. Good balance.

It also has a very nice stand plus integrated speakers and a 4x USB hub. Only problem is... you can't seem to get Iiyama in the States. I looked for that thing all over all the usual US PC parts vendors I know, but nobody seems to be selling the brand over there
Question though, were you guys actually setting the hz rates in Windows before testing them or just plugging them in? Ooooooorr.. Does that not actually need to happen?
