I heard Lexus uses Panasonic speakers for there standard sound system but everyone says it's actually really good. Even in the new GX550. So I'm shocked that it's even solid in the RX
I believe it's Pioneer not Panasonic for the standard audio and they are solid. The Mark Levinson is better with bass and slightly more surround but the normal audio system of the Lexus is better than the normal audio of other brands that's for sure. I own an ES 350 luxury package which doesn't have the Mark Levinson that is only found on the Ultra luxury package for my model year and I can tell you it is still superb. So they build the interior together. Hence everyone I've heard talk about Lexus with Mark sound system only cries tears of joy
The transmission is eCVT, not to be confused with a classic, regular CVT (no Nissan JATCO on these, Toyota made it bulletproof), no chainlink transmission band and no variable pulleys on Lexus nor Toyotas.

The hybrids from Toyota and Lexus don’t use a traditional CVT. Toyota/Lexus call it eCVT because it kinda behaves like one. It’s really a power split device with the engine and 2 motor/generator units connected through a planetary gear set.
@ actually that eCVT sometimes is paired with paddle shifters and boy I drive one called Wish only sold in Japan, it’s a wagon but that car was damn good. I wonder why Toyota doesn’t sell some cars in the west. It was smooth and fast.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried a new NX? I am surpirsed the RX has the shortcut to turn off the speed warning, but the NX doesn't... is it the 'road sign assist' you turn off to stop the noise via the frequently used screen?
I have the same drivetrain in my RAV4 Prime and it's a great combination of efficiency and horsepower. The infotainment screen on this car is a big improvement over what you see in the Prime but the new Prime XSE has a much better instrument cluster. The one in this Lexus looks very dated. I'm not sure how much I'd like those touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel, but they might be okay. Lexus has much better colors, that's for sure.
Exactly, had a is250, now in rx400h, next one will probably be an is300h…I had many German cars before and they can’t compete in terms of comfort and reliability
I prefer the previous gen design and the trackpad for controlling the screen. Using a touchscreen in the car is so ridiculous. BMW does it best with their idrive wheel. Mazda and Genesis are the second best when it comes to this.
Astonishingly good cars, Lexus. Luxury in metal format. Some people don’t get them but they glide and are built to last. They aren’t sports cars so get over it. Don’t knock the CVT - it works just fine. Particularly love the analogue buttons - absolutely sick of the change to touchscreen (soulless) buttons. Perfect dog transporter. The V6 Mk4 is a better bet but I get why some folks want this model. Beautiful engine in the V6. 6 cylinder? Nope. Enjoy this or the V6. Soak up the miles in luxury.

In the US, customers with your lifestyle would get the Toyota Grand Highlander, or the Lexus TX. I don’t know if any of those are available in Europe. The RX is a very popular luxury SUV in the US and may even fit your needs.
Everything is enormously expensive to build not only parts and labour but tarrifs and imports. A new cheap non chinese car is in the 30k range meaning most people settle for 2nd hand. Theres an amazing documentary of all the new cars sitting in storage as theres no where to go. I think the car market is in a bad place. Either its what it is now, overly expensive being built as cheap as possible or a huge recession/depression comes knocking off the market anyway
@febotroilo7225 terrible gearbox designed for small economy cars. In theory are supposed to be more efficient but in reality are less reliable and often less efficient too. Also feel super unnatural and you get excessive engine noise due to revs being held. Has no place in a luxury car. It's one of the biggest reasons lexus doesn't come close to the Germans in sales.
@@TheFlyingClutchmanneed to be a bit better informed before commenting. Lexus is e CVT, nothing like a normal CVT and arguably the most reliable gearbox on the market. It seems only you that doesn’t know that.😂😂
The difference is it'll still be a reliable well built car twenty plus years on. Would rather spend £70k on this than Euro rivals which are potentially a financial liability when the warranty expires and the years roll by.
There was no problem with the old lexus mouse pad or whatever you like to call it.Just learn to use it.The amount of owners who whinge about it,far out.
I'd normally say that's fair enough and everyone's entitled to their opinions, but there was a problem with it - it was horrible to use on the move and just not a very elegant UX experience.
How the heck can you do a car review and not be aware of the full facts. I’ll help you out, the battery is NOT in the boot, it’s under the rear seat. Also it’s an E-cvt gearbox. The everyday fuel consumption can be as high as 50mg, so your press car has been shown little vehicle sympathy!
Looks better than before but some of the lines/junctions are awkward. At this level we shouldn't have to pay extra for metallic paint even at £250! For the more discerning gentleman/lady possibly?
Mr. Tim, it's just your opinion 😂😂😂 luxury german cars are better on comfort, dynamics, ergonomics and other things that you don't know about it😂😂😂 See you!
I know it’s a misnomer but for the 95% of car buyers out there it’s sadly terminology they understand. I usually do air quotes when I say it but I forgot this time…
Yes, technically you can argue it's a misnomer. But for the average consumer, it's actually a good description, because it tells you what you need to know, practically speaking. Do you need to plug it in, or does it manage the charging of the battery on its own.
quite surprising there are only pros no cons in here don't get me wrong I think its gd value and Lexus are unbreakable vs German makes my FIL owns an RX 500 F sport I drive it time to time Wheelbase wise it sits BTW merc GLC bmw x3 and GLE bmw x5. The former has been cutting corners last few Gen w cheap materials but I think x5 n GLE beats the RX - sound insulation much thicker doors - Rx500 has a 2L engine albeit pair w turbo/motor but for the px competitors has 6 cylinders - suspension really nt as refined as Germans mid size x5 GLE
My daughter has a NX…Gets it out the drive and the petrol engine kicks in…..she swears by it……dragging a huge battery around for nothing……eats as much petrol as my M3……..pointless cars…..
There are too many uninformed snowflakes. First of all, the ECVT is NOT a CVT (owing their bad reputation to the old Jatco CVT used by Nissan). Then it's good that so many are in love with the German clunkers so that those having Lexus (#1 in reliability and #3 in low TCO=Total Cost of Ownership - opposite to the German) feel better.
It's a Qashqai with an inflated price, dreary design and slaughtered animals on its seats. Compare it to a Polestar 4 for like money and it's shockingly bad.

On my second Mercedes…hands down best cars I’ve owned…and I have had suburus, Nissan and Honda
I love this car, a year old, but concerned about the lack of boot space if going camping etc... I have a model Y and spoilt for various space.
Model y….😂
In the US, customers with your lifestyle would get the Toyota Grand Highlander, or the Lexus TX. I don’t know if any of those are available in Europe. The RX is a very popular luxury SUV in the US and may even fit your needs.
The puddle though...
Ugliest!
I don't like the look from the side... For buyers though the interior space isn't great and luggage space is pitiful..

Cvt is a dealbreaker for me or id get it in a heartbeat
What is wrong with CVT?
@febotroilo7225 terrible gearbox designed for small economy cars. In theory are supposed to be more efficient but in reality are less reliable and often less efficient too. Also feel super unnatural and you get excessive engine noise due to revs being held. Has no place in a luxury car. It's one of the biggest reasons lexus doesn't come close to the Germans in sales.
@@TheFlyingClutchmanneed to be a bit better informed before commenting.
Lexus is e CVT, nothing like a normal CVT and arguably the most reliable gearbox on the market. It seems only you that doesn’t know that.😂😂
@senseofthecommonman maybe, but that doesn't negate my other points lmao. Defo not the most reliable on the market. Maybe the most reliable cvt
@@TheFlyingClutchmanJust research and you'll be proven wrong.
Consumer Reports data are showing that the ECVT (it's not a CVT!) is the most reliable!
£70k for mid spec.
Crazy!
Give it a year…
You can easily get a discount

Apologies angry man
@@TimRodieDrivesStuffbut he’s right
Looks better than before but some of the lines/junctions are awkward. At this level we shouldn't have to pay extra for metallic paint even at £250! For the more discerning gentleman/lady possibly?
Side view looks awful
Agree
Too expansive but brillant.
You really remind me of Bald and Bankrupt 😅
Haha I am both of those things, but we're not related 😂
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff 😂😂
Mr. Tim, it's just your opinion 😂😂😂 luxury german cars are better on comfort, dynamics, ergonomics and other things that you don't know about it😂😂😂 See you!
What an unpredictable comment from someone called Germancars1520 🤨
@TimRodieDrivesStuff , yeah, it's like a Grand Seiko against Swiss brands🤣🤣🤣

Ditto! Arigato.
Still ugly
Maybe 10 years ago LeXus…(!)
Please Tim - there's no such thing as a self charging hybrid. It's a misnomer.
Toyota's marketing jargon. Sounds magical!
Underwhelmed.
Cars are sooo boring😴
Lexus is like a Japanese Mercedes which is crazy
Like.... But never there
quite surprising there are only pros no cons in here don't get me wrong I think its gd value and Lexus are unbreakable vs German makes
my FIL owns an RX 500 F sport I drive it time to time
Wheelbase wise it sits BTW merc GLC bmw x3 and GLE bmw x5. The former has been cutting corners last few Gen w cheap materials but I think x5 n GLE beats the RX
- sound insulation much thicker doors
- Rx500 has a 2L engine albeit pair w turbo/motor but for the px competitors has 6 cylinders
- suspension really nt as refined as Germans mid size x5 GLE
Rated poor in iihs tests
Too smal boot. Deal breaker for such a large car.
My daughter has a NX…Gets it out the drive and the petrol engine kicks in…..she swears by it……dragging a huge battery around for nothing……eats as much petrol as my M3……..pointless cars…..
If your M3 gives the same economy as an NX then you ain’t driving it very hard. Why not try a 1 series diesel, sounds more your sort of car.
Cvt = I’m out. Will stick with the German brands. 👍
Oh dear…..
There are too many uninformed snowflakes.
First of all, the ECVT is NOT a CVT (owing their bad reputation to the old Jatco CVT used by Nissan).
Then it's good that so many are in love with the German clunkers so that those having Lexus (#1 in reliability and #3 in low TCO=Total Cost of Ownership - opposite to the German) feel better.
cheap build quality and stiff ride
Especially for the price
Lexus fans are buying fairytales
They have definitely improved the tech but the quality has dropped for sure.
It's a Qashqai with an inflated price, dreary design and slaughtered animals on its seats. Compare it to a Polestar 4 for like money and it's shockingly bad.
Lexus interiors always look plastic, cheap and boring AF.
I mean did you see the bit where I said it’s leather and nice and feels expensive? Or just spouting nonsense based on other models 😂
I think you meant *Mercedes
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff did you miss the bit where I said “they look” or have you lost your hair as well as your eye sight baldy 🤡. It can feel as nice as nice as you want it to feel it doesn’t mean it looks it on camera duh.
