I rented a new 2024 X5 for my vacation a few days ago. I also own a new 2024 Lexus. The X5 was better. Not by alot, but it was definitely better. It was SO fast, quiet, the sound system was phenomenally good and the mild hybrid worked well. Also the best feature I liked about it was it would lock and unlock if you walked away from it or towards it.
All that being said, I can confirm the Lexus quality and reliability is a real thing. The engine is buttery smooth and will probably last forever.
So the question is do you want a flashy, fun, fast car with questionable reliability or do you want a buttery smooth engine with ok everything but with INFINITE reliability.
This may be cliche but, the BMW is great for a lease or rental, Lexus for purchasing and owning.

    • @naveenthemachine

The real question is do you want a luxury car or a fancy economy car on stilts?

    • @BHabe-m1j
      @BHabe-m1j 9 месяцев назад +35

I currently own a new Lexus and have owned/rented new BMW before, Lexus is definitely a luxury car. Anyone who says otherwise I can confidently say they never probably owned one and are speaking from inexperience.
Lexus is just as quiet as the BMW, the materials fit and finish is just as good if not better than BMW - - especially the paint quality, the paint on the Lexus is phenomenal and thicker than normal paint. Panel gaps, material quality, they are definitely luxury.
The engine and the transmission on a Lexus while not as fast as the BMW, transcends what it means to be luxury in terms of reliability and quality of build. The Japanese just make an extremely reliable and buttery smooth product that they refine over years and years of fine tuning. That's why their product cycle is so long (same car, same power train with gradual upgrades over years).
Being the owner and driver of many luxury brands, I speak from experience. It may be a tough pill to swallow for those who have based, inexperienced opinions about one brand or the other, but Lexus is definitely a luxury brand and a good one too. I would prefer owning the X5 though as a lease, great fun car. It just won't be long lasting as the Lexus. That's a fact.

    i test drove 350h, 500h, x5 40i for a family car (2car seat + 2 adults + 1 large dog)
500h - uncomfortable sport seat is not for family drive. drive quality is pretty good. recommended for skinny single person or couple
350h - very well tuned suspension compared to previous gen. downside of RX350s is coupe like design reduces rear seat headroom + smaller cargo space.
Damn good mpg is huge Plus but lack of space wasn't for me and interior felt bit boring.
40i - only downside is rear seat had smaller leg room compared to my xc90 due to lack of reclining nor sliding. but toddlers don't know.
sad 40i doesn't have air sus. but M adapt sus. still offers very smooth ride and ride quality compare to RX is night and day.
so we ended up buying 40i.

I was looking at the RX plug in.
    I decided to go with X5 50e.
    Much better experience overall.
The gas engine feels solid and gives you plenty of confidence on the road even without adding the electric motor to the equation.
I usually get in the high 30 miles of electric range in mildly cold temperature (California) and able to reach 88 mph in just electric. I don’t characteristically drive in “gentle mode” and so even in electric only it feels like it has more than adequate power to merge on the freeway or sprint from a stop sign.
Over 100 miles trip with battery depleted going up and down large hills I got just over 26 mpg. On this trip the battery would always charge to 1-2 miles (hybrid mode) and keep it ready for full horse power and torque as needed.
Starting with fully charged battery on this same stretch I achieved over 40 mpg which is better than what I get in my Lexus ES300h (rated at 44 mpg but my heavier foot gets 37 mpg).
Charging it at its max rate of 32 amps (220V) gets me close to 40 electric miles in just over 3 hours.
Most of the trips are short (less than 30 miles) and with just 3k miles on the odometer the car has been filled up only 3 times in its life - one by the dealership and two by me.
When driving during daytime one problem that I have is the reflection of the trim that is around the vents into the side mirrors when looking at the side mirrors.
I don’t notice it all the time but sometime it can be annoying.
Overall great car, quality seems to be there, and driving experience is on the next few levels when compared to the RX.
If you can spend the extra money then I think is worth it.
    Cheers!

you can’t go wrong with either, but the Lexus will hold its residual value 10X better and cost you thousands less in maintenance over the years. I worked for BMW for 5 years, they always come back into the shop and the maintenance costs are ridiculous. Get the Lexus, trust me. BMW’s look, drive, and feel amazing, no flight about it - but they’re insanely unreliable and will leave you stranded sooner or later. Most towed brand of all time

The BMW look complaints are all just in how you spec it (besides RIP angel eyes). It's one of the few modern BMWs that still looks good overall. Can't fix the ugly front or overdone rear pillar thing on the Lexus. If you're already paying that much, you'd be insane to not just pay a little more for massively better performance in the BMW.

BMW for sure unless you just can't spend the extra.......in which case you should probably just get a regular hybrid RX lol.
The reliability diff isn't even as large as it used to be, the B58/B48 era Bimmers are so much better than most people think.

Nice review guys, the only problem I would have with the BMW is service costs and reliability. I currently have a RX450h V6 yr 2020 model and it’s fantastic and reliable. BMW’s are expensive to maintain in the long run. My only beef is that Lexus went to a 4 cylinder motor in 2023, I will keep my current RX450h for a long time since I don’t like the 4 cylinder.

Not going to the lie the Lexus was really nice. I had the rx350h as a long term loaner and it was very smooth and comfortable even in a mid trim. Few gripes like the the center console being very tacky but otherwise I thought it was really nice

x5 is better in every way (maybe even reliability, zf8 speed, b58 and bmws phev system have been around for like 10 years) other than maintenance costs

@@isurumw6119 its obvious you havent driven a new rx hybrid. the 4 cylinder sounds and feels like its out of a corolla (because it is) and the whole package is just nowhere near as refined, luxurious, athletic or intuitive as the x5.

They have a terrible spec on the BMW. I ordered mine with Interlagos Blue Metallic II on 21s with full black Napa leather. It’s stunning. Turns more heads than my old M3. Nearly perfect car. I drive 100% EV in the city, get 550 miles of range, and it’s quicker than my V8 M3 in a straight line. Also, the tech is crazy. Gesture and voice control work well enough that I never take my hands off the wheel. The air conditioned massage seats are amazing on road trips.
Disagree on charging - full charge took me 30.5 hours. I had to get a 220V circuit pulled to level 2 charge. That takes 3.5 hours for a full charge.

For $87k + on a vehicle, I wouldn't be bothered with "reliability" but just to enjoy the experience. If you're already at that market, you're already making a financial mistake by even buying a luxury car, so just do yourself a favor and never compromise - get the one that makes you smile.
