Happy Monday guys! We hope you all had a wonderful weekend. While Lexus may always seem outclassed next to a BMW, the latest RX 500h F-Sport Performance has the BMW X5 centered in its crosshairs and while the two may not seem like natural rivals, the specs show both to be quite similar on paper. Which one would you choose for yourself? Let us know below!
Nope. The RX is still outclassed. Not just by the x5 but just about any other competitor in the segment you can think of. @@CarGeek360 the last gen was nicer but that’s all it really had tbh. The rest of the RX was well below par vs other competitors And this new one is even worse

As an owner of literally both. I own a 2024 X5 50e and we returned my wife's Q5 lease and opted for the 2024 Lexus RX350. I can honestly say for 99% of the population the RX is plenty of car. I wanted the X5 M60i, but was told I had to build one, so I opted for the X5 50e. Both amazing vehicles.

Good comparison. All the years of experience has you at the point where you can seemingly knock out a detailed, relevant, and unbiased look at both, and give us viewers an accurate take on what we can expect. If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I'd go BMW. Otherwise, I doubt I'd feel shortchanged with the Lexus.
I test drive both. While I really wanted to love the Lexus, I couldn’t come away, objectively and subjectively picking it over the X5. I ended up buying the X5 X40i with the M Sport package. You do end up paying more, but the BMW is a whole league better especially when you move up a bit in trim and options. BMW has figured out this X5 formula for daily driving and utility.
Just test drove the RX350 today, it was very sluggish, no fun at all. Will drive the 500 tomorrow, it should be a lot better. X5 is a better lease option for me!
as owner of 2023 RX500h, i agree.. but the X5 is quite a big bigger not sure why they are comparing them in the review.. In canada the RX cost me 83k... the X5 I was looking at was $106k.. big difference but it was nicer in most ways. I just like the nimble aspect of the RX size etc.. and its big enough for me
Nice review, enjoyed it very much! Lexus is a nice car, but in this comparison it doesn't look that great. X5 looks better/more modern inside and out, the engine and the transmission are top notch. Basically, it's a "nice car vs the best SUV in the segment" video. BMW wins it handily, they are on a mission lately.
25 years in a row, Lexus RX holds the crown for being the best selling Luxury SUV and with this new generation, there’s no way any other car could compete cuz that RX 500H F Sport is pure perfection. What a Beauty! Lexus, The relentless pursuit of perfection. #Lexus👑
Imagine if you will, a trip to a local hospital carrying your love one in your arms It’s 3am, and the temperatures have dropped to 13 degrees Fahrenheit You have these two cars in your driveway The hospital is 4 hours away Which one would you trust more?
I honestly don’t think Lexus or BMW is targeting the same buyer. Target market is very different between both cars; this isn’t to say people wouldn’t cross shop them but I think the person buying either vehicle will have very, very different preferences. At the end of the day, both are amazing choices. I’m a die hard Lexus fan but I think I would go with the BMW depending on how a test drive goes. I’ve long admired the X5 as a favourite in the BMW lineup.
Lexus definitely takes the interior when it comes to the screens integration. . The BMW screens looks like an afterthought and literally looks what Mercedes was doing 10 years ago.
The BMW inline 6 has been this reliable since the N55. It is impressive and the B58 (highly underrated engine in the sense of power generation) get great MPG. I can get in the high 20, low 30s with my G05 X5. The X5 also tows like mad! In the US is rated to 7200LBS, but in Europe is actually 7700 LBS (Due to different trailer rules in the US vs Europe).
@@DeeeBeee123another nonsense comment. X5 are the best selling luxury SUV in the market. Despite the high price tag, they sell like hot cakes. They ride quite smooth (I own an M-Sport with adaptive M-Suspension and it’s not far off the air suspension offered in the model, that’s how smooth it is) and the suspension can be change at the click of a button to make it firm and sporty. I can tell you have NEVER driven one of these based on your false narrative.
@@DeeeBeee123 this is such a lie, my dad and I test drove 2 2024 X5s and a 2025 X5, all of them rode incredibly smooth, my dad will be ordering his own 2025 X5 later this summer, it’s an impressive SUV
You said “the BMW is not the M sport version “ many times! You should have compared an M Sport version. I have one for $2,300 you get bigger brakes, adaptive suspension, sportier exterior and interior design to mention just a few. It drives and handles well, is fast and gets good fuel economy for a big SAV. You get free maintenance for three years and reliability has improved tremendously according to CR. What’s not to like except maybe price. Skip the executive package and ventilated seats and you’re in the Mid $70’s price wise. More utility, faster and sportier. BMW is the winner!
The Luxury and M-sport X5 get the same brakes. The bigger brakes on the M-sport are an option, unless that was changed in the last two years and I was not aware. The regular car also has adaptive suspension and BMW offered a deal to activate it (to change the modes) via connected store a while back. I like the ventilated seats in mine. I also like the merino leather and massaging seats.
Great review. Minor correction - the Lexus has leather, not sensatec. And the big screen is an option. The standard screen is like 9” and looks ridiculous.
Can’t go wrong with either. Loved my X5. Now own the 500h. Get the 450h for the plug. X5 needs an outside refresh. As long as they leave off the beaver teef grill. I followed exactly what you recommended. I leased the X5 but now want a car to keep a long time with low maintenance, so bought the 500h. Spot on.
False news. None of my BMWs see mechanics aside from the normal services. One has nearly 200K. BMW I6 are the best engines in the market. And the ZF transmission is amazing, so much so that Ford and Chevy tried to mimic it with their 10 speed and have been failing miserably!
You are totally wrong, BMW is top 3 in reliability and top 1 in premium SUV segment with the X5 and X6, I personally own an X5 and an M340i as well as an M240i before these two, never had a single issue in any.

Great video as always. I have RX500h, but thinking about switching to 50e. How’s cabin noise if you compare these cars? When you drive on highway, which one is more quiet?
Both great luxury SUVs! Bmw better in performance/driving. Lexus better on build quality, hybrid system, reliability, economy, offroading, resale price - and its still quick and handles great. For me the Lexus wins
@@kristians2704 the plug in hybrid combined with the Lexus hybrid in 450h is better, sorry. Yes Toyota has strong tradition in off-roading, see videos the RX is very good also
@@kristians2704 lol imagine saying BMW has better hybrid when they only started making them recently, whereas Toyota created hybrid. Every other brands are copycat to Toyota. If ya dont even know any history, Toyota built its first car as a hybrid in the prius, when no other brands had it. Just imagine saying BMW hybrids are better. Pathetic and funny.
@@kristians2704 you gonna understand good hybrid means efficient, reliable, doesn’t equal to how powerful and reliable it is. In our day to day driving cars, we focus on if the battery is reliable, soft, quiet, efficient. That is what we are looking at. Toyota has a copyright on their transitional hybrid system, meaning other brands have to make their own. That is why, Toyota hybrids sell the best.
I can tell you are stuck in some alternate world. The X5 is extremely reliable as with most modern BMWs dating back a decade. That is why BMW has been topping the reliability charts.
The RX 500h has the Hybrid Max engine, which is very powerful and sips fuel. The design of the X5 in that color is really nice, but it’s a shame BMW can’t redo their interior control layout and bring back dials and knobs.
Though I prefer Lexus (sedans, especially the es 350h) over any other car, I think the bmw looks much better than the RX on the outside, and better on the inside as well.
I think the time where Lexus was ultra luxurious has long passed. It looks like they have more legroom and less cargo room (which is usually my preference) than the BMW. The Lexus presents as a much better value and has that Toyota reliability and longevity backing. The BMW looks more premium inside but at that price point I feel like it should absolutely come with cooled rear seats. I think non black/gray interiors inherently make a vehicle look more premium. Does anyone know why BMW hates reclining 2nd row seats? I think they’re both overpriced. There are some non “luxury” vehicles out there that give you the bulk of what you get in these vehicles for a good bit less 💰. Very strong video SB. Thanks for letting us ride along with you.
The bmw is expensive but you clearly see where your money went. Not so with the Lexus. Besides Toyota’s having turbo problems. Cooled rear seats is nice but that doesn’t change how it performs or drives
Great comparison! It confirms my recent purchase of a 2025 X5 40XI with the "M" package. In terms of pricing, I was able to negotiate just under 10% off MSRP. I did stay with standard, 20" rims as I did not want to deal with swapping out tires for summer/winter driving with the upgraded rims, plus the added expense of another set of rims/tires for winter driving. I didn't test drive the Lexus as "mama" wasn't thrilled with the styling, particularly the large front grill. The X5 interior screams luxury and comfort. The driving and handling---incomparable.
I like BMW but this Lexus is super attractive and offers many interesting features like digital rear view mirror and cooling and heating rear seats those are so important to me. Plus it’s just 4 cylinders vs 6 cylinders in BMW but HP and 0-60 almost the same 😮
This video is all I needed today… I have a 2022 X5 and love it.. my wife wants the arc for fuel economy… I’m thorn between the 500h F Sport and the 350h ( really for fuel economy) it seems that the 500h would make me miss my BMW than the 350h
The b58 engine is very very reliable, so much so that the Toyota supra uses the exact same engine. Goes to show how past reputations can bite you later on.
@@naveenthemachineReally? Sure, Toyota/Lexus quality isn’t what it used to be and the gap between Toyota and Lexus cars is shrinking, with Toyota cars catching up to Lexus in terms of how well equiped they are and all that, but here in Australia, there’s only 1 major recall relating to the engine for Lexus cars (Lexus LX). And that’s a grand total of 184 affected cars I believe. I am not sure about the US and Canada but I’ll speak for what I see in my country. Considering there were around 1000ish sales of the Lexus LX last year here in Australia, that 184 isn’t that many. You can’t knock the whole brand over a few models having problems mate. Toyota/Lexus cars overall aren’t perfect but they aren’t terrible to the point I wouldn’t buy one. Try and be a bit more objective and feel free to tell me all the numbers for the US market. Oh and try not to sound 9 years old when you do so.

These cars are targeted at two different buyers - a driving experience is not just based on specs. I realize some people cross shop them, but If you seriously think these models are comparable, save yourself some money and buy the Lexus, because you won’t realize what you just missed out on. That’s not a slam on Lexus buyers. It’s just that the priorities of people who buy this brand are very different from BMW buyers.
People cross shop whatever they want what rules have you set down in your head I’ve looked at both of these cars. My priority is to get a great looking great driving midsize SUV. I haven’t decided. I’m still gonna look at the Mercedes GLE Am I allowed to cross shop that?
@@Ryan2022 yes, I give you special permission. Styling is a big deal and it’s totally subjective. “Great driving” also can mean different things to different people, though it tends to mean something else to automotive enthusiasts and that’s where Lexus falls short. All three are great vehicles and I suspect you will love whichever one you buy.
I compared both but it was the X5 with M sport package with adds not only cosmetic touches but also the adaptive suspension. I went with the X5 in the end because of the entire package, it's the best blend of anything you're looking for in a midsize SUV. It's more a driver vehicle than the Lexus, gets great MPG, and overall looks better IMO, especially with the black 22" wheels.
Because people cross up them all the time and who cares about what happens in Canada get rid of that stupid Prime Minister get Stephen Harper back and then we can talk

Good job on both comparisons! If you take the BMW extended warranty then it would be a no brainer to pick the BMW for cache, looks and sportiness that few SUV's can best in it's current production.
Tesla still pressuring the entire automotive segment and dominates "sport class" to the extent to which Model X sales be had of course. Is interesting that BMW and Lexus have never done better since Tesla came along tho.
IMO, everything about the BMW is better. Exterior design is much better looking. The wheels looks much better. I appreciate the BODY colored side mirrors over the cheap-out black side mirrors. The interior of the BMW is more refined looking. The seats look more comfortable. I can't afford either of them, but if I could, I'd get the BMW. Love the paint color.
Yeah, but at about 70000 or a hundred thousand miles you might as well take your entire bank account and give it to the BMW dealership. That Lexus is still going to be a rock
Great video, excellent review, everything was perfect, thank you, I have always watched your videos and appreciate your point of view. Greetings from Mexico.
Sofyan, you haven't mentioned the seat comfort extensively. From my last test drive experience, the Lexus RX F-Sport model seats were very narrow and had more aggressive bolstering -- uncomfortable, while BMW's seats were OK in non-M Sport rendition (although both have synthetic leather at that price(!)). Another huge usability issue is the middle console in X5 that sticks out too far back, thus making the rear middle seat quite uncomfortable, eating up the legroom, despite having a low tunnel hump... Another thing I remember after test driving both the vehicles is that Lexus was more agile and easy to maneuver, whereas BMW was more difficult to drive in narrow spaces or over frequent curves due to all that torque pushing on the rear wheels... Overall, I think - yes - these vehicles are comparable; Lexus has more comfort and utility, while BMW has better handling and more power -- drives sportier... Reliability-wise I think now both Lexus and BMW are almost on the same level after adding these many electronic components and adding turbo engines... I would not really call out Lexus on reliability any longer.... Overall Lexus maintenance is cheaper, I agree -- maybe not the reliability, but the cost of ownership... One thing that gets me with BMW's in general is how the interior is apportioned vs exterior size; given the size of X5 one would have expected more passenger room, but even something like Honda CR-V has comparable amount of passenger space and cargo... Another pet peeve of mine with specifically X5's is the dual split tail-gate -- why? I find it annoying that one must open two parts, and the cargo organizer in BMW not the best one either... In general, I found it was much easier to drive the Lexus than the BMW due to its shorter hood, shorter wheel base, and more intuitive controls, although the transmission felt jerky in Lexus and super smooth in BMW, especially going uphill...
Can never compare bmw to a Toyota. As long as I have money to buy either of the 2 , I will choose bmw. SIMPLE! If I don’t have money then I will buy my 320d and still be smiling!
The wife has a 2023 RX350. I just bought a 2025 BMW X5 40i. I have to say I like the X5 better in almost every category so far, but it suits my driving style. The RX350 is nice, quiet and comfortable, but not sporty, the F Sport package is just a trim and doesn't actually make it sporty. She gets many comments on the copper crest color, I get comments about the carbon black exterior. BMW's 6 cylinder engine is actually quite reliable, and the Lexus should be even more so. The bottom line is the BMEW is more of a driver's machine, the RX more sedate then sporty.
First place 114k units sold vs second place 72k units sold. I think the market has spoken as to which one is the most preferable luxury mid-size SUV. Despite the huge margin, 2nd place is not bad... How many did Genesis GV80 sell? like 5? ouch. And out of those 5, 3 catches fire on their engines. 😱😢🤣
@@naveenthemachine You are not completely wrong, but buying a car isnt just about driving dynamic or luxury, its the full package. And the market has decided the RX has the most complete package by sale numbers. Can’t really argue sale numbers when thats what every car manufacturers aim for.

I don’t think you should bother with the brake-torquing 0 to 60 test when comparing vehicles. Who does that in real-world driving? I may have done it a few times when I was 17 or 18, to do burnouts, but that’s it. The Lexus actually had a better time in the non-brake-torquing test, 5.5 for the Lexus, versus 5.8 for the BMW, albeit with the BMW going slightly uphill. You had stated that the BMW was quicker, which is sort of misleading.
We did test drive the X5 and noticed a lot of wheel noise when going over bumps in the road. It was very distracting, noisy and uncomfortable. Is this normal? Was surprised at how unrefined it was for such an expensive vehicle. Is this normal?
My 2024 X5 xDrive 40i "M Sport" is terrific, but to be brutally honest... I really LIKE it a lot, but I don't LOVE it. I shopped around quite a bit (Audi, Volvo & others) but these two were available from dealerships under the same parent company. The Lexus had a $1500 price bump, the BMW was straight MSRP. This, plus fuel economy AND straight up power made me buy the BMW. I'm currently undecided as to how long I'll keep it.
It runs and drives great (Despite currently carrying 2 open recalls) but BMW's "tech choices" really confuse me. For example: Being a retired aircraft mechanic, I'm a "gauge guy" but in the X5, other than water temperature, there are NO gauges either visible, or even available anywhere. Second, for radio volume, there is a knob right below the panel, and buttons on the steering wheel, and yet, they added an extra feature where you can twirl your finger at the face of the radio to change volume (which only works occasionally) WHY? Third, I really enjoy the rearview mirror camera I've had in other vehicles, but despite all the other tech, BMW doesn't even offer it as an option. Fourth, I'm an older guy (62) and being less flexible than I once was, unless I perform a "swim maneuver" I hit my head on the door opening every time I get in the thing. On a crossover? I have a few other items, but this is just hitting some of the big ones for me. If none of these seems like a big deal to you, I think you'd probably like it a lot. Speaking only for myself, once they finally sort out the recalls, I'll probably replace it.
I drove the 2024 x5 and it definitely impressed me. For it to be the base model it was quick enough and felt very sporty. I think it comes with a lot for the 70k starting price.
Because these two don’t really compare. A fair comparison would be the Lexus RX500h vs the BMW X3M40i. The X5 is a tier out two above the RX in every way.
I leave everyone in the dust when I hit the gas and let those electric motors give me instant torque and I’ve never spent more than $50 (91 grade) on a full tank for this 500H. The only annoying part of this car is the Lexus Safety 3.0 LED that monitors your head position and nags you to look straight ahead while driving. Also not having dedicated physical dials to select drive modes and deciding to add that onto the touchscreen is stupid but you can get around that by programming the buttons on the right side of steering wheel. Quirks on the software are annoying such as not being able to properly load the correct profile of who’s actually driving the vehicle. Little annoyances which I hope will be resolved by software updates. I’ve had hybrid failure messages show twice while owning the vehicle for almost one year. Only time will tell if other issues start showing themselves but knowing Lexus, they will stand behind their product and getting things fixed/resolved after the factory warranty is up isn’t going to cost an arm and leg like how the BMW will cost but then again most of these are leased and then returned after the 3 years are up.
Maybe the best SUVs on the market.I believe that the BMW win in details witch are mostly small but seems to be everywhere where Lexus wins in it's historical trust as top premium reliable car.But as many US comments say and I agree that BMW is to lease and RX is to own.
Right…😂 taking an interior filled with injection molded plastics hard plastics no wood trim no leather dash or doors or airbag cover and sticking a Lexus logo on it suddenly makes the interior the best build quality 😲😱😆 That’s just not how anything works pal
Usually, I would say a Toyota will last longer, but the new-generation BMW engines are lasting longer than all the new Toyota turbo engines. There was a 100k recall on all their V6 turbos. So, glad my Supra was made by BMW, now I'll know it will outlast all the new Toyota. 🤣
I have no idea why Lexus in The States insisted on such an awkward name. It’s an RX500h. “F Sport Performance” is superfluous because it only comes as an F Sport and the 500 part of it implies performance.
@@naveenthemachineNonsense! The RX has always been built this way on a FWD sedan platform and it sells well. The X5 is also based on a sedan platform, it always has been. It is highly capable, more so than the RX, but most people just want inexpensive luxury and not care if the suspension knuckles are made of aluminum alloys…… I do and that is why I buy BMWs, but the average Joe does not. The X5 does sell like hot cakes because it’s a highly capable vehicle, comfortable, smooth, quiet.
Naveen taking up all the space in these comments 😂, quality entertainment. Also, off topic, I haven’t heard of issues with the turbo Lexus engines here in Australia apart from the Lexus LX which got recalled. But I haven’t heard anything from the 2.4L Turbo 4 found in the NX and RX as of right now, does anyone know where abouts the US Lexus NX’S/RX’S are built? Because I’m fairly sure that the Lexus RX’S and NX’s we get here are made in Japan. If the US ones are also built in Japan, then maybe they are having issues but people just haven’t been vocal (which is weird and doesn’t make much sense)?? But if they are made in Canada or somewhere else, then I guess you have your answer as to why. The Japanese just build their cars better, which is expected.
Although Naveen is delulu, the X5 is def MUCH better than the RX (at least imo), I feel the extra cost is more than worth it, my dad looked at both along with some other vehicles (he’s getting a fully loaded X5 soon as yk)

Basically, it's a "nice car vs the best SUV in the segment" video. BMW wins it handily, they are on a mission lately.
Until the warranty runs out and then BMW provides a different type of excitement.
Lexus lost me when they lost the V6! Save the V6's! ✊

In Australia, Rx is way behind X5. X5 always top selling in its class.
Lexus definitely takes the interior when it comes to the screens integration. . The BMW screens looks like an afterthought and literally looks what Mercedes was doing 10 years ago.
mpg on BMW is same as on 2016 rav4, just on regular. But still considering the HP output it crazy efficient engine
Are you going to post a separate review of the bmw x5? Please please do
Yup!! It will post later this week! Stay tuned! 😊
Excellent comparison. However, I would take poor man X5 CX70 over these two. The best bang for the buck.
BMW X5 is the best in class. Imo
And that’s why my dad is ordering one soon 😊
Agreed!
They're overrated, they ride sporty not smooth. There are too many on the road.
Right as I'm eyeing this exact X5 trim this video comes out....
Thank you
You won’t be disappointed, but once you get one, it’s hard to ever go to anything else. 👍
I got one a month ago and I’m absolutely loving it!!!
Nah BMW sweeps the segment. Only the Genesis can compete or the Porsche imho
Spot on.
I much prefer the Lexus RX, as the other will visit the mechanic shop more often, with a plethora of issues.
Definitely you didn't heard about b58 engine
False news. None of my BMWs see mechanics aside from the normal services. One has nearly 200K. BMW I6 are the best engines in the market. And the ZF transmission is amazing, so much so that Ford and Chevy tried to mimic it with their 10 speed and have been failing miserably!
Nope mate…my BMW has been incredibly reliable. No issues other than normal stuff like tyres and servicing
You are totally wrong, BMW is top 3 in reliability and top 1 in premium SUV segment with the X5 and X6, I personally own an X5 and an M340i as well as an M240i before these two, never had a single issue in any.

Very good review. Answered all my questions and easy to understand! In all the videos the interior looks amazing.
BMW👑
Cooled rear seats are available in other markets.
@@naveenthemachine certainly not in the second row seats
Lexus reputation is finished. They’re history.

I'm bmw all day I don't keep cars long so who cares if it doesn't last over 5 years 😂
Sofyan, you haven't mentioned the seat comfort extensively.

How many did Genesis GV80 sell? like 5? ouch.

And it wins in ride comfort and luxury and tech and practicality and reliability
So it’s practically perfect

I like both but because of the power of the engine i'd take the beemer
My 2024 X5 xDrive 40i "M Sport" is terrific, but to be brutally honest... I really LIKE it a lot, but I don't LOVE it. I shopped around quite a bit (Audi, Volvo & others) but these two were available from dealerships under the same parent company. The Lexus had a $1500 price bump, the BMW was straight MSRP. This, plus fuel economy AND straight up power made me buy the BMW. I'm currently undecided as to how long I'll keep it.
What don't you love about the X5???
I buy my cars, so I'd not consider a bmw over the long term. Lexus is the my most reliable car maker on the planet

Which one has the best lease deal? That's the one I'm getting.

If the US ones are also built in Japan, then maybe they are having issues but people just haven’t been vocal (which is weird and doesn’t make much sense)?? But if they are made in Canada or somewhere else, then I guess you have your answer as to why. The Japanese just build their cars better, which is expected.

I feel like BMW and Lexus have completely different markets right now. Lexus for those who want Toyota quality (in most models, not all but most) and BMW and all that for people who want actual luxury.
@@austin.2716 ig but the GX/LX from Lexus are amazing and the X5 has gotten reliable these days (as long as it’s not a PHEV and ofc the ones without air suspension are more reliable than the ones with air suspension)
