I think he was a bit rough with the verdict. The Tiguan R is a great car! Comfortable when u aren't acting crazy, still an amazing family mid-size SUV, it has one of the bigger boots for this class of car, and it can go from 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds. and most importantly, all that for UNDER 50k. I think if u want a cheap-ish performance SUV, This is one of the best choices, if not THE best
I love this car i got the regular one and i have no regrets at all. The color options are fantastic. Mine was moon grey everyone had been complimenting my car and it feels good. Also, the gas mileage is quite decent. Cant wait to see the next generation!

We get wireless charging in the US but regular seats and no paint on the calipers just a flashy bumper and wheels. We also have the Atlas in R line here which is even larger than the Tiguan it’s ridiculous.
It has adaptive dampers, the ride is probably not that bad. I'd be far more worried about the eye watering replacement cost of damaged tires and/or wheels. Can you imagine hitting a pothole while on a roadtrip through middle of nowhere Kansas, Nebraska, Montana etc...and trying to find 21" tires (or heaven forbid replacement wheels) in the nearest small town? This is a VW crossover ffs, not a Bentley or Lambo.

Mat, the cornering even on the standard Tiguan is amazing, I have a 2WD, and it grips so well at those speed like in the video and similar corners, and the car barely tilts, for an SUV, the cornering performance is amazing.

25.3mpg (9,3 l/100km) average for a 320hp petrol suv seems pretty all right to me, i've seen reviews of a forester hybrid averaging that, i even came across one that claimed to have gotten 21mpg...AND 4.2 seconds to 60 on a tiguan?? good enough for sure

I'm sure the new seats VW are using for the GTI/R models etc are comfortable and supportive enough, but my lord do they look cheap and aftermarket compared to past seating in their top of range models. I get the rep damage caused by dieselgate spurred VW to go full woke in their efforts to work towards an all EV lineup and reduce the use of leather...but this just seems like cost cutting to me.
The wheels are so big that they make the brakes look tiny. I always think less of people who put wheels that are too big for their cars and here's VW doing it from the factory.
As you have mentioned that extra weight affects the performance... I'm really interested in seeing how significant is the difference? Maybe launch an empty car then launch it again with about 250kg at the back
I own a 1L Evo VW polo Beats 2020 which they now say has 80bhp rather than the older engines which have 60bhp. They’re top speeds are the same but think you should see for yourself what’s quicker! The newer polo’s are heavier tho as they have no design and are wider so will be great test to see 1/4 mile and second gear acceleration and even break! Hope to see this soon
I suspect the extra weight and higher ride helps the Tiguan squat and put it's power down better than the golf, which might struggle for traction even though it's awd. In the end though the extra weight and bigger silhouette does make the Tiguan slightly slower. But I wouldn't be surprised if it beats the golf in the first 50 meters.
No SUV in this segment can't compare with this Tiguan. It's a very good looking SUV, it's fast, it's luxury, the handling, speeding on corners it's like driving a supercar. If you didn't drive one don't comment as you don't know. From 0 to 100 in 5 seconds that's amazing fast. Today the v8 do that from 0:100

People tune the regular 350 tiguan, change the turbine, so that it is the same as the one on the Tiguan R, take it to 400+ hp, and it still isn't able to hit 60 in 4.2 secs, they usually get closer to it is mesmerizing

Volkswagen really lacks on the interior in my opinion, it all just looks so cheap! I rather have the old interior it just looked much better at the time.
here in my country in europe you can avoid the cheap seat fabric because you can get every VW R car with Nappa leather. expensive tho. more than 2000€. Here you can also get the false floor but as an option, which is a bit unnessasery

I'd go with the Tiguan Sport instead, good saving over the R version but yet quicker than most compact SUVs
Very nice. I've got a 2 yr old 230ps R-Line Tech and I can't quite justify upgrading to this ........... yet, may in 2 yrs, or just 1!
I own a 1,4 lt Turbo 150 ps version and I did 143 miles on the paid way. Even the normal version goes well (surely no comparison to the R)

The Tiguan R is a nice SUV but I don't think anyone will get this for £45k over cars like the Range Rover Velar.
I want one as the replacement for the S3 , but the price is too steep at the moment . Other than that it ticks all the boxes..

Agreed. Those seats in particular look nasty! My 2014 Passat has a nicer interior.

here in my country in europe you can avoid the cheap seat fabric because you can get every VW R car with Nappa leather. expensive tho. more than 2000€. Here you can also get the false floor but as an option, which is a bit unnessasery

Don't really get the 'issue' with the integrated head rests- if you're sitting in the back, usually means there's someone in the front and you can't see through people so surely they're blocking your view anyway...?
