And aside from a possible target audience, the interior is the same design ethos as all VW cars. somewhat bland and plain.
@@bdeoleveira8110 Na you clearly want him to be bias to the golf. Everything you said it completely irrelevant to someone reviewing a car.
The R has 336bhp compared to S3 306bhp, the reason is the RS3 is coming out soon 😀
@Jason Prendergast C63 amg starts at £70k that’s way more than £50k, I love the merc but it’s in a completely different price range, the RS3 will spec’d for £55k seems a great car, the R and S3 with 330bhp and for £40k to £45k is a brilliant option
“Don’t know where the extra liters in the Golf R” bet you didn’t catch that
Sure, the S3 looks sportier than the R, but the R has more space for passengers and larger glass surfaces that in everyday life give much more comfort in living with the car. Too bad these two cars with 3 doors do not come out.
Lost it when Mat went like"other motoring journalists wil be like wa! wa! wa!"😭
I think MAT can probably TWERK. that THUMBNAIL *_Hilarious_* 😂😂😂
I didn't expect to find you here😅. Even on the internet the world is small
@Mfundo Dladla 😂😂true
Thank god, someone is pushing for physical analogue switches back in cars!! out of the 2, I would choose the Alpine a110
The launch on that VW GOLF R is DREAMY!!!
Nice to hear that you make huge progresses with the German language. 🇩🇪👍 Go on please!
So about the plasticy cheap thing: I drive a Golf mk6 and even the back door panels are not cheap plastic. So they definitely got cheaper.
Same with mk7 its hard plastic
@@hiiiofficial8306 so starting from mk7 hard plastic in the back apparently
I think they just underpower the S3 on purpose since there is an option with more power (RS3) just to make you all the way to that

How to throw money part 1
Buy the new golf R. Awesome quality lmao
One thing i will never forgive volkswagon for is the dcc/adaptive dampeners... for the first year mk7 gli dcc cane on the entry 35 anniversary trim but not on the top of the line autobahn... and then the next year dcc became standard on the autobahn.... whyyy. Save 4k and gain more performance/comfort:(. Only reason i didnt get the 35th is because i love a good sound system, ventilated leather seats, and the digital dash on the mk7 gli is almost perfect! But whyyy vw. Why coupdnt you give us dcc on the highest trim. I bought my car 3/4 years ago but im still mad. Ill be mad forver😂
Ps: based on what ive heard; not only does dcc improve comfort, but it also increased the vehicles cornering performance on imperfect roads... i find that particularly going over the top of a hill that turns and has some bumps you have too slow down because the rear end will hop up and start too rotate around the front because the suspensions too stiff...and thats very bad😂. Also i believe do too it being able too be softened it can extend the life of your entire suspension( which is thousandssss$) aswell as better protect you rims and tires oh and your back....
At this moment when Mat says :
The golf goes better and the audi stops better. That's humiliating 😂

I can attest too your "all vag group feel a little less quality then theyr predecessor's". My mk7 gli autobahn is much better then the mk6 gli in every way except:quality:particularly the quality in the materials of the interior ie: dash centor consol, seats etcetc. Especially the seats. Ugh mk7 gli seats get sooo uncomfy on long trips. The old gen wasnt as bad at alllll
I’d have either of these VWs. Love them both
I love the quarter mile race❤
Would like to see a drag race between that golf and a BMW M340i saloon
I love the person who edits these videos... Has got a good sense of humor... 😂😂
Your right mate I second that. ✅
What a surprise VAG group cutting corners and bringing the quality even more down, surprised you didn't have to pay for doors and seats :D
cannot unsee that thumbnail image...my eyes!
As a S3 owner, I’m challenged by Golf R drivers a lot on the road, so this video just made me super devastated. The fact is that not only I won’t be able to beat them in the near future, but also I’ll have a hard time beating them even if I switch to RS3. I’m gonna sell my car now, and I have no idea what I’m gonna buy to at least beat a Golf R.
RS3 will easily gap the stock golf R or I could get an a45s
First time seen Matt hasn't been kicked in the butt when mentioning Nurbergring. God I am lucky!
Not a golf fan but its very impressive
could you please do a drag race between this golf R and a Mercedes-AMG A45s?
I would go with the insane optics of the s3 and let the .1 comparisons be what they are 😃
Hey Mat, I do love your channel. You are the most entertaining motor journalist on YT. And you are a German car fanboy... That is what I like most. (As a German)
R+S3=RS3....hell yeah!!!!
Isn't the Audi available as a sedan? I believe it is. That's why I'd buy the Audi over the VW. I want the security of a lockable trunk.
For me the Golf 8 is better than Audi A/S3 out side/inside ...
I'm loving these track tests
This is the best thumbnail ever😂😂
Hahhaa mate! If I knew showing booty was a good idea, all my thumbnails would be like that! 😂
The color grading and lens quality is superb on this video on the A roll. Cheers!
The Golf’s infotainment screen is perfectly fine. You’re getting old Mat.

No it’s not bro and im just 25yo

@@theaymen2011 agree 💯
@@theaymen2011 Mat over-exaggerates in the video and makes everything look super complicated whereas things are much simpler. If he had actually spent 10 minutes in understanding it rather than clinging to the past he would have understood it too. But to each his own I guess.
I’ve never seen an Audi S3 less expensive than a golf R in the United States
Same here in South Africa.
At the end of the MK7, VW was offering special paint jobs, and a rear diffuser kit, paired against a base S3 the Golf R was more expensive.
If the S3 here was optioned the same as the Golf R (adding the dynamic suspension) it would be more.
Tbh I've always been a golf fan boy and this isn't an exception. I prefer the overall look of the golf. I personally think that the exterior is way more attractive. Audi however makes the better interior.
Hey Mat, can you race the Merc GT 4 doors against a BMW M8 4 doors, you can add an RS7 just for fun😅
Wow Audi interior is class above considering it’s cheaper
Premium brand..
The point you made was right. More contact patch on the Audi for the stopping power.

Yep the new Golf R is proper quick. With the DSG, Car and Driver were able to do 0-60 in 3.9s and 12.5s @ 112 mph in the 1/4 mile. They also tested a 6 speed manual R and it did 0-60 in 4.9s and 13.4s @ 106 mph in the 1/4 mile.
Audi S3 sedan stage 1 0-60 3.7s 11.9s 1/4mile.
@@jozefjozefczyk3936 Yep even a stage 1 on an S3/R gives a nice power boost. The biggest difference between the two vehicles is the new R has the better Magna AWD system.
It's always the same reason why products of publicly traded companies get shittier with every iteration: Save money, post bigger profits, stakeholders happy, bonus for the ceo.
Definitely the S3 but with a Revo remap 👍
My mk6 gti has hydraulic bonnet struts and yet this golf r doesn't? Is this because it's a bit different in Europe compared to USA or did they just randomly decided not to install them? Don't understand why they would take a step back like that
