      I’m pretty sure they don’t play songs from pretty odd because Ryan and Brendon had a strong friendship and I’m pretty sure that Brendon misses Ryan because in some videos that I’ve seen Brendon has a murmur God I miss him about Ryan when playing with Dallon and all of his new band mates were playing northern downpour I just feel like it might be too emotional playing that album

    I felt so weird watching this because I'm a relatively new to panic! and pretty odd was instantly my favourite album after listening to every song by them. Crazy to hear that it's so underated and frankly disliked by a lot of people.

      I'm totally in the same boat as you. I've only been a fan for about 10 months, but I personally think Pretty. Odd. tops any other Panic! albums. There's this certain intimacy and warmth that you just don't find nowadays.

      I feel the same. I spent this last summer listening to the album while going through some hard times and the music from Pretty. Odd. helped me find peace. It is a genuinely great work of art and it is definitely underappreciated.

      As someone who has listened to Panic! since the first album I understand why it's disliked and underappreciated. It's so different from AFYCSO and I think when they released this album people where expecting something similar sounding and were taken back by this new psychedelic sound. I personally really loved Pretty. Odd. because it was so different.

    It’s a pity that there was so much shit going on behind the scenes with this album, it’s one of the best produced Panic! albums, everything flows together like this beautiful storybook and it’s a fucking shame that it’s ignored because of some feud that happened 10+ years ago. I feel like if Brendon ever decides to retire the Panic! name - the Brendon, Ryan, Spencer, Jon lineup should reunite in respect of how it all started and do a farewell tour tbh. I’d sell my soul to go. Imagine two sets of Fever and P.O. in their entirety back to back or something......

    One of my favorite albums ever. I can't believe it's 10 years old. Definitely Panic's most underrated and underappreciated album. I think Urie truly does love Pretty. Odd. Whenever he does address it, it's always been in a very positive light, and his shoutout to the album along with Jon, Ryan, and Spencer shows this. I think Brendon doesn't really talk about the album not just because it's their Folie a Deux, but because of the emotional baggage of what happened afterwards. Right before he shouted out Jon, Ryan, and Spencer, you can hear him say "It's all my fault, I love them". Also a lot of Pretty. Odd. can't be performed without Ryan, who provided vocals on so many of the album's songs. I hope one day the post-Fever/Pretty. Odd. line up of Panic will reform and play these songs (plus the songs from Fever) live again.

    I am so annoyed that Brendon doesnt play this album live. I would much rather hear northern downpour or behind the sea rather than hallelujah. Am I the only who feels this way? Edit: although I guess the songs would be very emotional for him to play.
    Edit: Also I would definitely see Ryan, John and Spencer live playing old panic songs and even new songs!

      I think Hallelujah is better than Behind the Sea and on par with Northern Downpour, but you're so right. He really seems to hate acknowledging that this album is even part of his own band's discography, forget playing it live. P.O. is possibly their best album.

    Pretty odd is my favorite panic album for so many reasons. The diversity of instruments, the lyrics, the overall style, and how Brendon and Ryan’s voices meld are all huge reasons that I love this album. I think that you are absolutely right: Brendon has so far removed himself from the days of the four man band that it is difficult for him to acknowledge it. Also, why play music from pretty odd? It wasn’t commercially successful and it doesn’t make for a bombastic live show. At least that’s what Brendon thinks.

    • @hannahrose5546
      @hannahrose5546 6 лет назад +1

      I agree with you. Pretty odd is a fun, energetic album live. But apparently Brendon doesn’t think so. He said that himself.

  • @emanas2530
    @emanas2530 6 лет назад +58

    I feel that all of Panic's music (after AFYCSO at least) never got the appreciation it deserved at the moment. Pretty. Odd. didn't receive the love it deserved at the time, but neither did Vices and Virtues, nor did Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die.
    The FIRST song on their first album went "We swear to shake it up, if you swear to listen" and "I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives". This is the spirit that Panic! embodies, has always embodied. It may be just Brendon now, but he takes on a very familiar creative process of storytelling that blends scene setting and character creation, of aiming for sticky songs and playing with different styles of instrumentation, of taking in random pieces of life and pop culture that hold meaning to them to make a beautiful mess. To me, I wouldn't want him to drop _Panic! at the Disco_ anymore than I would want Stefani to drop lady Gaga.
    On the other hand, if in an alternative timeline, Dallon took on the Panic! name and Brendon left for a solo project, I would consider Panic! as Panic! and support Brendon separately. Because Panic! has always had a spirit, a certain je ne sais quoi that exists as a separate entity to me. Instead Dallon wanted to create a wholistic 80's time capsule project, and that is awesome on its own.
    Generally, I dislike it when fans go to great lengths to conjecture about Brendon's supposed great ego or some romantic tensions, etc. Is it not just as easy to assume that Dallon was demoted to touring member because he was working on his own personal projects and thus preparing to start IDK? Isn't it also easy to conjecture that Ryan and Jon had felt a little disenchanted with their old _Panic! at the Disco_ at the time (hence dropping the exclamation) and simply wanted to start afresh?
    And it is not like Brendon talks all that much about AFYCSO, or V&V, or TWtL,TRtD anymore. Pretty. Odd. just gets the brunt of the attention because of circumstantial and situational factors. But Panic! at the Disco is always about chasing the next thing with a genuine love for the music. Brendon didn't make it a secret that Dallon was necessary to the song Far Too Young to Die. As you noted in the edit, he did give a shoutout to Ryan, Jon and Spencer on Pretty.Odd.'s 10-year birthday. I have personally never found him to be actually egotistical about the songs we get; he does talk about how even the latest albums would have never existed without the help from his friend Jake.
    To those who still insist on claiming that only the first two albums were worth anything and that Brendon Urie is only holding onto the moniker for the money, I say that you are entitled to what I see as a misinformed opinion. The guy has literally said on multiple occasions to download his music illegally if you don't have the money. He explained _how_ to download music illegally on a livestream once. He is always talking about how much enjoyment making each new album gives him, and to me, that enjoyment translates in all its nuanced ways
    Would I like a reunion? If they do truly want to make music together, of course! Because that cohesion translates into the music. I would love to see them work together again! But, if they don't, I will still listen to Panic!. If a new member joins permanently, I will support them the way I supported Dallon.
    Side Note: Like, have you people never had a childhood best friend? My first best friend I made at the age of 3 and spent most waking moments with until the age of 12 -- I don't really talk to her anymore. That doesn't mean there is tension; we just changed. And that's okay. I feel the same. We used to write nerdy stories together and now she is a much different person. But that's okay;we're still the same. Even if Ryan, Jon and Spener came back together, they would all be in their thirties. We can't expect them to make another AFYCSO or P.O. But I would imagine they would still bring little demos and snippets they worked on separately to the table to create something fresh andintricate and new that I would love. Ryan pro'lly would take over lyrics again. Brendon would still be lead vocalist, but maybe Ryan would sing more, maybe not. As long as they have that enthusiasm Panic! would be Panic!
    *If you read all of this, congratulations. Yes, I am ridiculous. Yes, I am a big fan.*

    I'm glad that this also describes why the first 3 albums will forever be the best. And it's not just nostalgia or bias. Cause it seems every newer Panic fan's favorite stuff is just what was just put out. Cause I'm not really sure how many people will continually come back to DoaB after a while. I just miss what Panic used to mean to me. They were at one point my 2nd favorite band (first is always going to be the same) and it's fallen a good amount to where sometimes I don't like saying I'm a Panic fan cause that represents the toxic fans and the low quality of music. It's just not a good feeling anymore and I'm sad to say that Panic seems like it will never be the same. The albums are getting more and more similar. And it's starting to feel more like inspired by tracks versus actually achieving genre change tracks like they were on Pretty. Odd.

    Jon's the only ex-member who will acknowledge that time anymore. He's met up with Ryan and Spencer recently and he openly talks about his time in the band as being the best of his life. Brendon seems to be the only one bitter about the split and completely against a reunion 🤔 it's just frustrating, especially considering how he's holding onto the band name for money and recognition when it's only him now. I wish he'd go solo

    • @tessar.p453
      @tessar.p453 6 лет назад +12

      Wait... sorry, but when did Jon talk to/met up with Spence? I knew about him talking to Ryan but didn't know he and Smith were still talking let alone meeting up. That would make Brendon's attitude about the reunion even worse... I love the guy and all, but honestly, Panic! doesn't really feel like Panic! anymore. I still like it and I'd support Brendon on every project (like Kinky Boots for example) but a part of me feels like he should've dropped the name at least after Spence was gone if not before. Then the other part of me is very happy that Panic! at the Disco has grown up with me and has changed so much through the years, does that make sense? Idk. I'd just like to see them together one more time, that's all. I'd like for Pretty. Odd. to get the recognition it deserves and that the credit is given to the four guys, not just Bren.

      while I do like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I still think Brendon should go solo, for he is the only original member and it doesn't look like he bonds so deep with the new musicians. all the pictures (with a few exceptions) are just of Brendon, and there are no acknowledgements of the others

    • @Blue777Dragon
      @Blue777Dragon 6 лет назад +21

      Um...here is my take on all of this. Should Brendon drop the Panic! title? No. Why the hell would he do that? People recognize Panic! at the Disco more than they recognize the name Brendon Urie. When people think of bands they love, both from the past to now, you may think of Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, etc. but the leading image is Brendon. Why drop the title when it's his alone to control? If Ryan, for example, wanted to keep the band name he and the others could have kicked Brendon out. They left, he stayed, it's his band name and he can choose what to do with it. Brendon's relationship with the other members is meh? Not really, if you watch any instagram livestreams or whatever, he has a great relationship with all his touring members, even his new bassist. The thing is that they are "touring members" not band members. Sometimes I wonder why they are not band members but I guess that is up to Brendon and the group. Do I think that Brendon should reconnect with the past members? No. While I would love for Brendon to make up with them, it would, first, essentially make his touring members lose their jobs. Secondly, would totally change the image of what Panic! has become, but that is more minor. And third, could potentially create that hostility that began during the Pretty. Odd era. I get why people get annoyed at how Panic! is today, but it is what it is. There's literally no good way for this all to work out so in terms of promotion and band members and such, I think Panic! is doing a fine job as it is, but that is my opinon

    Remember when everyone lost their minds because they dropped the exclamation mark? It was weird time.
    2006/07/08 I remember being an insane time for the alternative/emo/whatever scene. The scene was just so oversaturated you couldn't move with hitting someone with too much eyeliner on.
    Both FOB and MCR were just riding out two very successful albums, there were a lot of other bands becoming more prominent like Paramore, All American Rejects, AFI, All time Low and there was also collection of not very good bands that had a couple hits because the emo scene was cool but are pretty much dead now because the scene died.
    Then you add Pretty. Odd. to the mix and... yeah it was clear to see why it wasn't very well received.
    Honestly, I think it was just released at the wrong time. If it was released late 2009/early 2010, or maybe even 2012, then i think it may have done a lot better.
    I have no issue with Brendon keeping the name. I mean, if you co-own a house and everyone else moves out, you wouldn't move out of it if you could still afford it. Now, if it were the other way around, that's a different story.
    And I quite the new sound. Death of a Bachelor is my favourite album behind Fever. The new sound isn't as clever as the old, I agree, but the same could be said about most bands nowadays. It's just the scene we live in. I mean, look at FOB. No-one left that band and the sound has changed drastically. The same would have happened to panic whether they'd stayed together or not. At least, I think so.
    Who knows, maybe in 10 years MCR will come back and fix everything? *tear slides down cheek*

    To answer all the questions regarding why this album isn't played as much on tour. This question was asked to Brendon on a livestream and he replied with a couple reasons. Firstly, it's because the songs are not as well known, and many fans wouldn't be able to sing along. Secondly, he feels that the songs would be too slow and/or calm and emotional for a concert and he worries people would get bored. Lastly, it's obviously very emotional for him and this is the straw that broke the camel's back as it's simply too difficult for him to sing live. I personally love all their albums more or less equally so to clarify I am NOT hating on PO it's great but unfortunately not a live performance album.

    Correction!! Nine In The Afternoon has NOT been scrapped from the Pray For The Wicked Tour. This is because the tour has not even started yet. Currently they are doing pop up shows with shorter setlists. I believe they are not playing it because they are not hauling around a piano to small venues in a quick paced and quickly planned pop up tour. Once they are playing in arenas for the Pray For The Wicked Tour, I believe Nine In The Afternoon might stay. But we’ll see what happens!

    Pretty. Odd. is my 2nd favorite Panic! album. (1st is Vices & Virtues) I really don't understand how anyone who's a fan of them could dislike it tbh. I wouldn't say it's quite as underrated as you make it out to be in the video, but it definitely deserves more recognition. It's such a solid album. And to answer your question, I'd love to see a reunion, though I don't think it's very likely for anyone to come back, except maybe Spencer. Assuming nothing like that happens, though, I really wish Brendon would just let P!ATD die and ACTUALLY go solo, especially now that Dallon isn't even a touring member anymore. It just feels so forced at this point.

    Also, watching all of the Northern Downpour live performances in 2011, you can clearly see Brendon get emotional/chocked up each time. Heck, he straight up says at the Bush Hall performance that he hopes this would be the first time he _didn't_ cry. He's never disparaged the album, just said that it was meant to be heard as the studio version. Whatever the reasoning, the album does still exist for us to enjoy.

    Why is it that Panic! and Fall Out Boy’s best album was so underrated and did not get the attention they deserve?
    To me, Folie a Deux and Pretty Odd are the most rock that both bands have done. The diversity in rock, the smooth flow, what makes rock so good. Closest thing to the Queen era of rock.

      Why should he have to give up the band name? He has stated multiple times that HE never wanted to leave Panic! It’s crazy how this guy brings up Brendon’s ego lmao As if he actually knows him.
      Yeah, I agree- not all of the new songs are great but neither were all of the “old” songs. Every album has some great and not so great ones.

      gh0st url1 In the split they did actually argue about who would get the band name. Of course we know it ended up to be Brendon, and it can be discussed whether that was right or not, but it can't be denied that it was Brendon's winning ego that got him the name recognition he has today. If that argument had turned out differently, the picture might have looked completely different from today.

    I think some people just dislike the album based on what it represents rather the content on the album which is a totally unfair criticism. Pretty Odd is an incredible album. I didn't care for it at first, but it grew on me as I listened to it (I grew up a huge fan of the Beatles, which I think helped me adjust to the change in sound). I pulled it out again recently and was amazed at how well it's held up - it's so timeless, and it gives me intense nostalgia to listen to. It makes me sad that people don't discuss it more; there's so much going on, so many beautiful melodies... I don't know, man. I like it better than any of their other albums. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Pretty. Odd. is my favorite Panic! album and one of my favorite albums of all time. It came out when I had just really gotten into music. It meant a lot to me then and it still means a lot to me now. As somone who had been a fan of the band for over 10 years it really upsets me that the album is basically ignored. I understated logistically why most of it isn't played, the style is different than other albums, Ryan contributed vocals on some tracks but it still makes me sad.

    Pretty Odd was ahead of its time. Now in 2020 there’s being a resurgence of this folksy rock sound (looking at artists like Harry styles for example who is insanely successful now being inspired by bands like Fleetwood Mac) and I couldn’t be happier about it. This album is a masterpiece but it came at a time where people didn’t appreciate it. The fact that a lot of new panic fans dislike this album so much breaks my heart. I think that Ryan Ross is a phenomenal song writer and it sucks that he hasn’t done much with that talent since the band split. I think if Ryan were to release a solo album with a similar sound it would do really well (but that’s mostly because there’s a whole bunch of people who are literally just waiting for Ryan Ross to do ANYTHING)

I actually really liked the two albums that were part of the Brendon, Spencer, Dallon era (despite dallon not being credited on vices and virtues) so I will never say Panic! died when Ryan Ross left, but I will say that a reunion ( perhaps an album and tour) would be extremely appealing to me. Lastly I will be sad if Brendon drops the moniker because I feel like that would be the final end of Panic!

    I agree with what Brendon said, he is Panic at the Disco. When people think of the band they think of Brendon Urie. When the first two members initially left the band, there were still two members left. New members came and went. But it still is Patd. They never isolated themselves into one sound, so they still have that freedom to make different types of records and sounds, whether it sound like Pretty Odd or Doab. It’s still a group of people making music, it’s just not all the original people.
