UPDATE! Jon just posted on Twitter that his dad found a CD containing THREE Cricket and Clover demos! No idea if or when they'll be released, but he let the rest of the band members know so hopefully something will come of it eventually - twitter.com/iamjonwalker/status/1048692039485812736
Wow, I haven't heard anything about this scrapped album in _years._ Those were strange times in the fandom. The memes... and the _fanfiction._ Oh, the fanfiction. That said, I never knew the album was so experimental, and I can tell you why it was - drugs. No joke, around this time the whole bad got super heavy into marijuana, though Brendon had been a stoner since high school. I suspect there were other more psychedelic drugs sprinkled in there too. But yeah, that goes to explain a lot about their thought process, behavior and output at the time.
I was just gonna point out that they were ridiculously high when they were in that cabin. The descriptions of Cricket and Clover pretty solid proof of that (no sober person would come up with the idea to recreate a drumset with egg crates, wood cartons, and glass, for example) as well as Pretty Odd as a whole. I wouldn't be shocked if they'd dropped a little acid out there, too.
Kaija Schmauss I also think the beard growing contest happened by accident because they were so high they were too lazy to shave XD Remember how Ryan totally failed at growing a beard? Man I made so many jokes about his lack of masculinity. Seems a little insensitive now, but I was 17 and it was just a different time.
That's very interesting, because I think most of their fans feel the exact opposite. I have a deep love for Pretty. Odd. because it came out during a very formative time in my life so I have a lot of good memories surrounding it and nostalgia for it, but if I take off the nostalgia goggles I can't say I would enjoy most of it otherwise.
Samantha Port I think I have a similar reason for liking it, or I would think that, but having removed the goggles for a listen through earlier today I can honestly say I love everything about it- the nonsensical lyrics, the dreamy composition, the harmonies I know by heart to this day beautiful, beautiful album
Briqt Wemmde I was in high school during the Pretty.Odd era! Everything from Reinvent Love rubber bracelets to plastering my room with Ryan and his sea green guitar. I still love this album, I think Ryan was the superior musical artists in the band at the time. I didn’t enjoy vices and virtues, to me it took Brendon a long time to figure out what he was doing but his sound and vision for panic has grown and I appreciate it so much after Pray For The Wicked. :)
I’m almost 100% sure the lyrics in that photo are authentic. I remember when they were first shared online years back, Ryan’s ex-girlfriend, Keltie, has posted them either on her twitter or now deleted blog. She dated him during 2006-2009 but continued to talk about him all the time so she must have been holding onto them.
Do you mean the demo version, or the version that eventually came out on Vices and Virtues? I'm curious, because the demo is quite a bit different in that it doesn't have the "ever since we met" refrain, and I don't think the original version of the song would have included it either. I did really like the demo but I think I prefer the finished song we got. I'd still love to hear more of what they created for Cricket and Clover, but I have a feeling it might be too experimental and weird to be truly enjoyable. I dunno.
I would've loved to hear Cricket and Clover. There's an album called Evelyn Evelyn that tells a complete story without traditional song structure that i love. Not that i don't love Pretty Odd, but i wish we coulda had both
There’s a song in the film More that Pink Floyd made their album More after which is not on the album. There is no version where it is just the song instead of acting as a background song to the film.
Those lyric sheets are real! In the making of Pretty Odd there's a clip at 12:30 from the cabin of Brendon singing "...on strings, I feel like something velveteen", which is in the 3rd sheet as "I feel as if I'm a figurine, I feel like something on strings... I am something velveteen" And at 12:49 you can see Ryan lip syncing to Brendan singing another song: "scarlet stocking sink every lash up in the harbour" (?) And at 13:15 Brendon sings "scratch my phosphorus skin" I'm guessing these clips were from what would have been a Making Of for Cricket and Clover, just like for Pretty Odd.
I stopped listening to them after Pretty. Odd. To be honest nothing could top that for me. Every choice of instrument, every metaphor, just everything about it was everything I wanted in an album. The mix of classical, folk, modern, with a heap of Alice in Wonderland-esque magic thrown in. Uplifting, intriguing, mysterious, a little dark at times, observing the casual strangeness of the world. I was probably more a fan of Pretty. Odd. than the band.
Pretty. Odd. Will always be my favorite, i like vices and virtues as well though if im in that sort of mood. But I'm not a huge fan of any of the other albums after vv. Doab was okay but i never listen to it.
plot twist the reason ryan hasn’t released anything in years is because 1. he’s upset over cricket and clover being lost 2. he’s searching for it 3. he’s rewriting it and/or 4. he knows where the hard drive is but he doesn’t have the rights to it. lmao would that be something
I admit I was a bit confused when I saw the notification for a lost Panic! album but glad that your covering this because I genuinely love this band. :D
I'm guessing you weren't a fan when this was going on then XD Makes me feel so old, jesus. I was actively following them during the whole cabin debacle, so I knew exactly what this was as soon as I saw the notification.
4:50 There’s more songs since Jon on Twitter said there’s 14 tracks * "Feather Fingers" * "Fill Me Up" * "I Don't Have a Shirt, But I've Got a Hat" * "Phosphorus Skin" * "Porridge" * "Scarlet" * "There Was Once a Man from Nantucket" * "True Love" * "Velveteen
This is really interesting to see from you I didn't even think there would be that much info from Cricket and Clover considering it's so obscure. I wish there was cleaner audio for True Love somewhere as that's such a pretty sounding song. I think it would be interesting for you to talk about Songs From The Black Hole an album that never was from Weezer.
Also, to add to the theory, if you watch the Calender Business video (the making of pretty. odd.) there are some clips of the band singing lyrics that aren't on the Pretty. Odd. album. I don't remember all of them, as a lot of time it had the video with someone talking over it when they were playing, but there was a part where they mentioned something about "weathervanes pointing the way" or something (and no, it wasn't to the tune of Northern Downpour, before you say anything). I'm willing to bet that a lot of lyrics that don't make sense to us off of Pretty. Odd. are actually references to songs that they wrote for the Cricket and Clover album.
Y'know, Weezer also has a similar story to Panic's. Their second album was a concept album called Songs From the Black Hole. However unlike Panic's album most if not all the songs for it have been released.
Wow! I’m a huge Panic! fan but I never knew this album existed! Super interesting, thanks for making this video! Nearly Witches is one of my favorites so it’s really cool to find out a bit about its origins.
Wow I would of loved to hear this album or a few songs from it even though Cricket and clover seems to be kinda messy. But I kinda like that feel. I really love PATD’s early work, better than their new stuff. Pretty Odd is a great album. Also I love the demo of Nearly Witches. was snooping around to find anything I could about cricket and clover and this video taped a bit of that eagerness in me up. You explained the whole thing so well
I want to mention that, while "It's True Love" hasn't been released officially, an album Brendon Urie was apart of has a song titled "It's True Love". 'Razia's Shadow' by Forgive Durden has it as the ninth track. It is a rock opera, and Brendon plays one fo the characters. Just so happens that that album came out in 2008. Conincidence???
I was such a huge fan of P!ATD (still am) back in the day and I've never heard of this, wow. I'd love to hear any sort of recordings if the hard drive Brendon mentioned is real. I also found it weird that they dropped the exclamation point with Pretty. Odd. too.
In the 30 minute Making of Pretty Odd documentary, we actually hear them performing snippets of the Crickets and Clover album, like that song about Scarlett.
As a hardcore panic fan, I’d die to have this album in its entirety. I love pretty odd, but it needed more, and C&C would’ve been a perfect tie in/prequel
And also, the way they tried to make the songs reminds me of how The Moody Blues did some of their albums, since some of them had songs that went into eachother and told a story. For example, House of Four Doors is a 2 Part song, Ride My Seesaw has a beginning part that goes into the next, and theirs plenty more. I do wish we got the album, it seems like it could have been great! Hope they release the songs they had.
That's a common thing with bands doing concept albums, particularly prog bands liked doing that. Viewing the album as a novel with each song a chapter title. The Moody Blues, I'm guessing is just your exposure to that idea? Which isn't a bad place to be exposed, but yeah they were by no means the only or first band to do that.
i vaugley remember hearing about this when i was younger, i hope we can uncover thisI was one of those few people who actually did like the album Pretty Odd, it had that Beatles esq vibe to it and i adored it so much, so just knowing there is an untold story of an album somewhere out there in the world? chills...
Thank you for this! I’m a big fan of Panic! but I had never heard of the cabin album until a few days ago. I found the same comment on the Reddit thread that you included in this video, and after some digging I found a scan of the Kerrang interview on a Portuguese fan site and translated it. I was wondering if anybody else had discovered this interview because I had yet to hear anything about it, but I just found your video and you covered everything perfectly! I wish we could all hear Cricket and Clover. It would be fascinating to listen to it after all these years, and to see just how far they’ve come music wise. Who knows, maybe someday somebody will find the hard drive! :)
I'm not usually the type of person to click on videos like these but I'm really glad I did! really well thought out and interesting! awesome job dude :)
this is a really cool video, and it's interesting to know that "folkin' around' got used as a song title on pretty odd. (which is my favorite album by the way) also jon tweeting about cricket and clover demos has the entire panic fandom shook
I loved the band for what fun they had. How they seemed like such close friends. This lost album is a good example of that. Maybe its just right to keep this album never to be seen by daylight. Its a treasure that will only be considered as treasure when its not found, and i like that. Atleast we know on those songs were guys having fun in their youth somewhere on a hard drive inside someones basement.
Pretty. Odd. Is my favourite panic album and I've always wondered why it's so weird, this really explains stuff. It's amazing to hear that they were making a different album. I hope that Brendon can find the hard drive or the demo that Jon found can see the light of day. I'm seeing panic in March and I honestly would love it if Brendon could play something off pretty odd.
I was a hardcore fan from 2005-2009 so it’s interesting to remember these things I’d forgotten about being a fan like when they played true love. I remember a lot of confusion in waiting for pretty. Odd. And being so relieved and happy when it came out. Good times
Woah woah woah. Can I just point out something *VERY IMPORTANT*. In Ryan Ross' recent interview with CrankThatFrank, he says that he has the Cricket And Clover demo's. But he just isn't allowed to release them. So the album does still exist but not publicly. He is a pretty loyal friend though because despite him leaving the band he still keeps them private. Also he did say he wanted to release them as well.
This was such a good video idea, amazing job!!!. I’m by no means an “old” panic fan (I’ve been listening for 5 years though) but I’ve done digging in panics history for sure and wish this album could’ve came about, but maybe it’s okay that it didn’t. I’d still love to hear it and I wish new fans knew about this album that could’ve been!
Pretty odd is amazing. Been listening since their first album, but stopped after Vices. I knew there was a lost album, but damn, I didn’t know this much. Thanks.
I feel like this album is quite interesting for another reason. When you mentioned a song called ‘True Love’ I actually thought about a musical song. There’s a musical called Razai’s Shadow that has a song with the same name. The lyrics are very different but the intresmentals sound kinda similar. Anyway this is relevant because Brendan Urie was actually in this musical and came out in 2008. This musical has a lot of similar ideas to Cricket and Clovers featuring lots of failed attempts at true love. I think it’s really interesting to see the parallels between it especially with them being made at similar times
Im such trash that i went on a witch hunt for this album, later to find out that it was never released, the only evidence that it existed was that Ryan Ross had writed lyrics on paper and there was a photo leaked about it.
i think i saw somwhere that "when the day met the night" was supposed to be on cricket and clover- didn't they performe it live just before they scrapped the album? it was under another name like in the middle of summer or somth

this is very interesting. i didn’t know about this at all. really great video! 👍
0:30 According to the other members of Panic!, Brent was not a writer on A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.
“It’s the end of the electric guitar era” ~ George Ryan Ross
Fans got the Justice League Snyder Cut to release maybe they can also get the Panic at the Disco Cricket and Clover album to release
I had read about this previously. How i longed for more answers to this list record. You just earned a subscriber.
Thanks for making this, I've been waiting to find something about the lost album
oh my gOd i’m only 1 minute into the video and i’m already hyped
my favorite youtuber and my favorite band? yes pls
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A VIDEO ABOUT THIS FOR FOREVER
Pretty.
Nearly witches is one of my favourite songs so I want this album so much
I was a hardcore fan from 2005-2009 so it’s interesting to remember these things I’d forgotten about being a fan like when they played true love. I remember a lot of confusion in waiting for pretty. Odd. And being so relieved and happy when it came out. Good times
AYYEE, I WAS HOPING TO HEAR VIDEOS OF THIS
no way you made a panic! video i just started picking up your channel again when i got into panic! at the disco again ahhhhh!
Fever was pure teenage heartbreak gold. I loved it.
My first concert ever was the “Pray For The Wicked” last Friday and it was amazing. I definitely recommend going
You included a clip from my channel in this video, thank you! :-)
We really need Pete to return the favor and do a drunk history of P!ATD I feel like it could uncover a lot
One of my favorite youtubers and one of my favorite artists! Great video dude!
i audibly gasped at the “fill me up with porridge” because the first thing my mind thought of was “ryan was kneeling in the bathtub”
My favorite band and one of my favorite channels. Wearing my Pray for the Wicked shirt rn
I hope we get to some day hear what this album might have sounded like
Watching this after Panic! At The Disco ceased to exist and im trying not to cry
THEY'RE COMING BACK WHAT THE HELL.
Cool! A new lsq video and it's about one of my favorite bands!
It sounds like Cricket & Clover was just the result of an insane amount of drugs. I'm glad that Pretty Odd was the final result cause it fucking rules
Pretty odd is amazing. Been listening since their first album, but stopped after Vices. I knew there was a lost album, but damn, I didn’t know this much. Thanks.
Very interesting. I wish I could hear what that album sounds like. Pretty. Odd. is my all time favorite.
I saw this youtuber made a P!ATD video and got excited because I love them both so much.
lsupersonicq doing a video on panic at the disco? it’s my lucky day
I've seen them once and it was at a pop up with 400 people. Real underground. Met Zack, got in for free. Seeing them at a big show in February :)
The new interview with Ryan he said he had the demo
Im such trash that i went on a witch hunt for this album, later to find out that it was never released, the only evidence that it existed was that Ryan Ross had writed lyrics on paper and there was a photo leaked about it.
When you said on Twitter that you were doing a video on lost music, I was hoping it was this. It was very interesting.
Seeing a this video in the notification bar made my day 😘
this is amazing thanks for making this
6:53 I don't think Brendon _can_ be straight with us
😂😂
i think i saw somwhere that "when the day met the night" was supposed to be on cricket and clover- didn't they performe it live just before they scrapped the album? it was under another name like in the middle of summer or somth
I love almost anything from all of Panic's albums but my favorite song has to be "Sarah Smiles" from the Vices and Virtues album
Ryan actually has a copy of Cricket and clover. Search up his interview with Ryan.
