Idk how people use these short stubby sanwa sticks. I'm new to fight sticks, but man is it awkward to use for my Hori Rap V. Tempted to get the extended JLF shaft, a new spring, a bat top, and 1mm actuator.

For me the most comfortable grip is to hold the ball from the sides with my index and thumb (thumb is higher up on the ball because of the way I rest the rest of my hand on the deck) and then I support the underside of the ball with my middle finger curled underneath but not around the shaft. I find this the best way to hold it for me and not slip off because of the shaft spinning which is something that was happening to me a lot at first. I also find that having my hand resting on the surface of the housing helps me keep myself oriented and not start using the stick diagonally which was happening to me too lol

The method I find comfortable is to use index finger and thumb on the upper part of the stick, with my middle finger knuckle placed in the middle of the ball top. It's easy for me to pull the stick left, but I get uncomfortable pushing the stick right. That's where the knuckle comes in. I push my middle finger pushing the stick right with ease. With this method, I can get my forward dashes in easily. I also managed to instant air dash easily in Dragon Ball FighterZ. I'm not sure if others use this method as well.

3:17 never forget to cup the balls lmao!. Also i sometimes used a hybrid of the 3 fingers when im super stoned playing 3rd strike and its basically the same but alot less ball cupping but the ring finger is lower to the (damn ima say it) shaft lmao #cuptheball #shaft

Great video I never really gave much though to stick grip tbh I just use what comes natural. However I have quite small hands and find the the compact GCOM Arcade Stick with the keyboard sized buttons works much better for me, my fingers don't have to travel so far and I find my attacks are much quicker as a result. Has anyone else here tried the gcom stick ?

Then there's the American Joystick "Pilot Grip". Of course, American Joysticks have more active snap, and you hold on and use the snap (or lack of it) as a tactile feedback to avoid false diagonals. That's when control is more important than speed. Also the intentionally long throw if an Anerican Style stick fits in with that philosophy.

So, just giving out info, not an attack, just clarifying, In this video he mention that the most common grip that is found is the two finger style grip. How close or far apart you want to have ur ring and pinkie finger away from the stick is ur call. The reason this is common is because your finger will always be more precise than ur wrist. However all of these different grips can be learned and made to perform at the same level. But most people tend to find the two finger style better when making precise movements. Why is this important. Because many Japanese players play on a square gate. Thus, they do not ride the gate when making quarter circle motion. They move the stick just enough to hear the clicks. If you use ur wrist you can still do this, but not as ez. Diago umehara is one famous player who chooses to use three finger style while not riding the gate. In America, people prefer the octagonal gate, so we ride the sht outta of that gate. and thus we want more power so we can hit the gate faster. So we wanna use our wrist hence three style grip. Now the type of gate you use isnt be all end all. You can use either gate and decide for urself if you wanna ride the gate or not. But I wanted to explain this because this is the reason why it matters which one you use. As far as Gootecks goes. You are misquoting him. One he says first and foremost, There are other styles, Two he says this is most common, Three the one he shows to be most common is the two finger style grip. Which in this video is also regarded as the most common grip. I've been a part of the fgc in east coast, and the question of grips comes out a lot. So i just wanted to give out this info. Again this isn't an attack on ur comment lol. Just wanted to clear up the gootecks thing. The link below is gootecks exact words, so nobody thinks, i'm making sht up about what he said.

I've been having issues. I've been using the two finger grip in the and recently I got back into sfv. But my two finger is slightly different. I do it deep. So the ball is really only making contact with the bottom side of my knuckle on the middle finger. This used to not be a problem but now that I'm older I think it is irritating some nerves there. I don't know how to change my grip. Any tips? I'm not good at gripping with my fingers so maybe your three finger grip?

there's also another way of holding, closer to a wineglass style, you use the lower fingers to hold the stick, and and the index+middle+thumb on the top, and then there's a way where you just use the lower fingers with the palm of your hand for the moves. if that doesnt work, you can either go with a bat, or just trade it for a fight pad.

i have a completely different grip than all of these, and im not sure whether i should use it. imagine the 2 finger grip, but curl the middle finger so it's on the side of the stick. im pretty much touching the stick only with the tips of my index finger and thumb, and the fingernail of my middle finger. i use this grip because of the absolute chonkers i have for hands and my wide stature. both of which make it hard to input up/right with the regular two finger grip, the thing is that i struggle with motions (i play tekken and i dont play a character with motions but still). what do you think about that one?
