That's so cool never thought about freeze drying so many different things I am look to get into do this thanks for the great video
Thank you for your video. We love it when people understand the process better. I made home made tomato soup tonight and can’t wait to freeze dry it.
Janine Neville
Owner of Harvest right
I would love to freeze dry my soup but after owning my harvest right freeze dryer for for several weeks, it has only worked correctly once and the aftersales service I have had has been very poor.
That is so interesting, I never new that.
Omg this is amazing. Thanks for the video!
My next prepper purchase is a quality freeze dryer. Thanks for the video!
Thank so much Sister.
From Indonesia and this sharing really helpful for me ^^ God bless you 🙏

شكرا للمترجم شكر كبير ❤
Wow this is amazing
Absolutely cool
Excellent!!!
The freeze dried skittles…..lol! I was like what are those colorful plants/seeds…..
EXCELLENT!
Thank you.
More informative thanks
Thanks for your help 👍 🙂
No problem 👍
Amazing video.
I am new in freeze drying and a big Thank you for the information. From the video saw powdered food in a jar. What happens when you are opening to use, does it absorb moisture and rehydrate plus how long should powdered food stay for?
Thank you information 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome, sound advice. Thank you!
Tip#1: Choose where to use your Freeze Dryer
Tip#2: Decide what to put the Freeze Dryer on
Tip#3: Learn about the Freeze Dryer
Tip#4: Start with something simple
Tip#5: Freeze dry similar items together [due to moisture content and aroma]
Tip#6: Cut things into small pieces
Tip#7: Don't overload your [Freeze Dryer]
Tip#8: Decide how to store your freeze dried items
I'm drooling 🤤
Glad you are enjoying the freeze dryer! There is truly a huge difference between the quality of dehydrated and freeze-dried foods. I don't have the budget or the space, unfortunately. But I have been happy with the bulk foods I have purchased. I am using more freeze dried foods versus GMO produce that has very low nutrition. And am converting all my camping meals to home-packed freeze dried versus the expensive $10 to $15 store-bought junk! Thanks The Great Out There
Thanks for the video! How long does the food kept in jars without the OAs stay good on the shelf? I hear a lot about food taking on the moisture in the air and causing spoilage..Thanks!
I like this machine
thanks
Love it
Just like at the end of the video, skittles were being packsged and sold at our archery tournament. People were buying these up!!! We bought 6 bags of various candies. Love them. But all that to say, this was how they were paying for their machine. Just something to think about.😊
Bought one this morning!!
Are you having to wait for it?
@@EnjoyThisMomentDIY yes. They said 8 to 10 weeks!! 😩
Thanx
nice
Thank you for explaining the difference. I bought a $99 dehydrator and was very disappointed with the look of the food after drying. Will get a job so I can get moving with my new gardening skills, and interest in food storage for short and long term. This is guided by the Holy Spirit so not sure what will be happening in the future to require these skills.
Was Leary because when I did buy one it was used and it never seemed to work,
Realized that I could probably put hard ware cloth over the racks in the stove and place the food on the hardware cloth at 119° and cook , I hadn't figured out the hours yet , can't afford the freeze dryer and with the arthritis can't string the green beans to make leather Birchers. I'm going to try and get natural ways to dry foods people where drying foods 100 of years ago and lived . good luck
I am having some buyers remorse. We got our four days ago, and had no idea that it takes from about 8 hours to over 50 hours to process. It makes the house hot.
Mine is in my garage
Keep a fan on it and wrap one solid piece of foil around the rack and your dry time will be shortened!
@@tonyjabroni8484 So, I take the rack out in order to wrap one solid foil pieces around each rack or the whole unit, on the outside of rack?
Yup! I’ve cut down my dry time by a lot, and the ice doesn’t take over the bottom rack of food.
This is one thing I get concerned about is length of processing time! How has the machine been after having had it a while?
I wish I could afford a freeze dryer. What a game changer it would be!
They are pricey., but it is amazing what they can do.
Harvest right has a layaway program. All you need is $250 down and then call and make payments until you’re done then it’ll ship. I just made another $30 payment it’s not much but instead of eating out I’m putting it towards my freeze dryer 🥰
@@molivar5 I think I'll do that. Right now, there's a 8 to 10 week wait to get one.
@@annemarie8483 I ordered mine 4/19/22 and it came in 2 1/2 weeks despite being told it would take 8-10!
@@brenna5202 good for you! How is it affecting your electric bill?
Thanks you for the information 🥰🥰🥰😍
Can you freeze dry raisins, dates, and prunes?
How long can you store the freeze dried food in glass containers?
Great video, thank you! Do you know the total power (watt) usage of the freeze dryer and the compressor combined?
I would check the Harvest Right website for exact details: affiliates.harvestright.com/1238.html
Buy a kilowatt meter.
@@GrowingInTheGarden I couldn't fit watt ingormation for the pump on their page so I have written them and asked. Thank you and great video btw.
How long do they last if you put them in a jar. I'm sorry to ask, I really haven't seen this process
Great information! Where did you get your glass containers for storage?
Walmart
@@GrowingInTheGarden can you tell me the brand or name? I stopped by Walmart and they didn't have anything like this. What department did you go to or did you order online?
I'm new to gardening. This is the first year that I'm going to try to have a decent garden. I really need to understand what to do with all the food when it is time to harvest. What recipes do you use: onions, potatoes, tomatoes, squash, strawberries, beans, peas, etc. I saw that you have a few recipes on your blog, but having them by veggie would be amazing! How do you store extras? I'm worried about having an over abundance of food, and not knowing what to do with it.
That's a great idea. I'm going to try to do that. Thanks
Eggplant, potato, and tomato with chili powder, black pepper, and salt. Makes a really good dish when sauted all together.
I'd also make a big veggie soup with your garden.
Healthy kitchen
Hi Angela, I live in Peoria, AZ. Could you tell me the best place to buy mulch for my backyard future food forest? Watching your videos has been a God-send for me. Thank you!
So glad the videos have been helpful. Arizona Worm Farm is the best. I would get the mulch there.
@@GrowingInTheGarden
Do you have any recommendations about the $1495 up charge, for the motor to be oil less?
Thank you so much. I'm looking to purchase one at some point and am trying to get people's opinions on this option.
Thank you
Nice video, thank you. Can you grow mushrooms in a dessert climate?
If you have the right microclimate.
I'd love to know what kind of jars you use for storage and where you purchased them from.
I use the 1/2 gallon size jars, I get them from Walmart.
For a person who is just putting up food from this year’s garden for throughout the coming year, are glass jars with no oxygen absorbers sufficient? For meats too?
That's what I'm doing. Not sure about the meat.
Where is a place in Arizona where it’s not hot? Btw, Just down the rd in Tucson. I love Az!
when the temp slowly rises, how warm
does it get.
how about if it dry under the sun ?
Got anymore of them freeze dry ideas?
Thanks so much is this the medium or large
Medium with Premier pump
What would you do differently if you are preserving freeze dry for long term?
You seal them in mylar bags with an oxygen absorber.
What is the energy consumption? Freezing down to -40 degrees would seem to be a huge draw.
From Harvest Right: At peak, the freeze dryer draws about 16 amps, but on the average about 9 to 11 amps (990-1210 watts) of power per hour.
❤️
Is it possible to use use Ice dryer for turning liquid to powder (alcoholic)
Coworker: “is that powdered creamer you’re adding to your coffee?”
You: “yeah, sure! 😇 Powdered creamer… Yeah, that’s the ticket!🤥”
Twenty minutes later; coworker: “you seem much more relaxed after that coffee break.”
You: “yup! That’s some damn good powdered creamer! 😎👍”
😂😂😂
I've seen that powdered milk is a great long-term storage.

I live in a small one bedroom apartment and I’m considering getting the small size and upgrading to the oil less pump. Do you think it would be too loud? Is it a disturbing sound or would you say more of a background noise. Is it the pump that is creating the sound or the dryer itself?
They both make noise. It's equivalent to fairly loud window unit ac. Hope that helps.
62-67 decibels for the machines and a normal vacuum is around 70, for some perspective.
My understanding is the oil free pump has more issues than a Premier pump. Other Utube presenters have said that
Hello! My freeze dryer has arrived! Have you made any more videos on your success / learning opportunities with freeze dryers?
Yes! Here's another video: ruclips.net/video/QlZoEdao3dI/видео.html and some more resources on my blog: growinginthegarden.com/category/freeze-drying/
Hello, I wanted to know what size freeze dryer you're using? Currently live in a medium sized apartment. Kitchen is too small for a freeze dryer but the living room could work. I noticed that yours is smaller than a washing machine. Is the noise loud enough to disturb neighbors
Medium from Harvest Right: affiliates.harvestright.com/1238-1-1-4.html It is loud, but with the door closed it isn't too bad. It depends on how close your neighbors are.
Is there a list of foods that absolutely cannot be freeze dried. If so where can I get it. Thanks so much. I'm getting ready to order mine, I have to get my cart too. I just want to be as ready as I can. By, can you provide link for the cart you put yours on. Thanks again
She showed a bakers rack that you can get at any big box home store.
What size cart did you get to put your machine on ? And where did you buy it ?
24" Deep x 48" Wide x 39" High 2 Tier Heavy Duty Chrome Wire Utility Cart from Amazon: amzn.to/3DNi1Mj
How long is the shelf life in just jars (instead of Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers being about 25 years)?
Not sure yet.
Would it be ok to use and store the dryer in our garage that can get down to 40 degree F?
Typically the problem is it getting too hot, so I don't think so. I would check with the manufacturer to be certain.
I read on the HR site that the FD needs it's own dedicated 20 amp circuit. Are you not able to use your washer and dryer while running your FD?
Hasn't been an issue.
False
The 20 amp circuit is for the large. Angela has a medium.
If you FD rosella can it be rehydrated for jam?
Probably. My first choice would be fresh because then you're not processing it twice. You would have to add pectin because you wouldn't freeze dry the seed pods and that is what you boil for the pectin.
Hi I am in Australia and would love to get one please
Here's the shop I got mine at. affiliates.harvestright.com/1238-1-1-4.html I'm not sure if they ship to Australia or not.
Can cooked beans be freez dried and will the taste and colour remain the same after cooking.
Yes.
I need this to make freez dried food for my parrots..what size is the one you have gotten?
I use the medium freeze dryer from Harvest Right affiliates.harvestright.com/1238-1-1-4.html
Do you have a link for this exact cart

Ok
What's its shelf life??
Beli mesin frezee dry nya dmn ini??? Harga brp??
Добрый день! Знать бы о чем вы говорите?
Where did you get it and what did it cost

I am making dried chicken for my cats, how can i add vitamins and supplements to it?
Not sure - unless you ground it up and mixed it in?
@@GrowingInTheGarden it's powder and liquid supplements, should i ground the chicken with it in?
Where to buy that freeze dryer?
I use the medium freeze dryer from Harvest Right with the Premier Pump affiliates.harvestright.com/1238-1-1-4.html
Hello, Is "vacuum freeze drying" and "freeze drying" the same concept?
Probably. Vacuum sealing is a different process. But if it is freeze drying then probably the same process.
How long will the food last in your pantry with out being compromised by starting to rehydrate?
About a year. If you want longer storage you need to use Mylar bags with oxygen absorber packets.
@@GrowingInTheGarden Thank you... just to confirm your veggies and herbs will stay crisp even though you open and close the jars several times a week?
How long does your food in glass jars last if you are not using an oxygen absorber?
I try to use it within a year - so far it's lasted that long (and longer)
Praise the LORD for creating freeze dryers!
What machine do you use?
I have the medium with the premier pump: affiliates.harvestright.com/1238-1-1-4.html
COULD U TELL ME PRICE OF THIS MACHINE
Hi! can we freeze dry a cooked curry. Can you do a vedio🙂.need help!
Not sure.
Yes you can! There's lots of videos on freeze drying whole cooked meals. I mean think about all the other emergency packaged food that is sold. All that is, is a big batch of food that they freeze dried.
@@trubyboo4072without the chemicals. With FD you know what’s in your food.
❤👍❤️👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Why did the freeze dries mixed veggies in glass vacuum sealed carrots loose color , but everything is still crunchy
Vacuum sealed glass canning jars
First 75% Dehydration
Second steps 25 % Freeze drying..
Both Process Possible?
How much power does it use?
From the Harvest Right Website: "Our small and medium freeze dryers use a standard 110 volt outlet.
At peak, the freeze dryer draws about 15 amps, but on the average about 9 to 11 amps (990-1210 watts) of power per hour. A dedicated 20 amp circuit is recommended. Your freeze dryer will cost an estimated $1.25-$2.80 a day, depending on power costs in your area."
I want you to do one experiment.
You have dried all these ingredients, you steam it and check, if you can use it as fresh ingredients for stir fry.
In one pot recipe all these ingredients are good but check for stir fry, during steaming only required quantity of water is absorb.

Your video content is relevant and your presentation is very nice. We would like to contact you directly
Where can I buy a machine from please
I use the Medium Freeze Dryer with the Premier Pump from Harvest Right: affiliates.harvestright.com/1238.html
How do we freeze dry without a machine?
You can't
I would keep this machine in a shed or outbuilding so you don’t have to hear it all day and it will keep things close to the garden for prep.
👍💖 - What are these colored balls 4:58 ?
Skittles
Anybody else freeze dry without special equipment,
Other than a large metal baking sheet and cranking the cool on your freezer to max, just spreading out everything thin?
Do you do this?
Not true freeze-drying
What is the shelf life??
About a year in the jars, 25 or more in the mylar bags.
Are all Freeze Dryers much of a muchness or are there some you would not reccomend??What is your opinion??
My only experience is with this one from Harvest Right. I have the medium size with the premier pump. I have really liked it. affiliates.harvestright.com/1238.html
The harvest right ones seems to be the only thing out there, unless you want to step up to a commercial sized model.
